    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday Jan 03, 2020

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 12:07 AM PST

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against fundamentals here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports. Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well.

See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki:

    Market Cap - Shares Outstanding - Volume - Dividend - EPS - P/E Ratio - EPS Q/Q - PEG - Sales Q/Q - Return on Assets (ROA) - Return on Equity (ROE) - BETA - SMA - quarterly earnings

If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned.

What undervalued stocks are you looking at to buy for 2020?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:58 AM PST

I'm curious what stocks people think are undervalued, and will be holding for 2020?

    I'll start with myself

Shorter term, I'm long both DLTR (Dollar Tree) stocks, and calls for the next 2 months, based off of technicals

Medium term, Regardless of it's fundamental flaws, I am looking at W (Wayfair) stock and call leaps as technicals for this one are also showing W being undervalued.

Long term, I'm looking at SAVE (Spirit airlines) Stock, as we are rallying off of a support which I feel leaves us with aton more room to grow.

I look forward to hearing people's ideas on what stocks they feel are undervalued

    Thoughts on Zillow (Z)

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:39 AM PST

Had a very rocky 2019 but overall up over 40%. They just announced that they would start charging landlords to post their rental property listings on their platform. They essentially have a monopoly for online real estate listings outside of MLS (which most landlords do not have access to). Thoughts on the stock?

    $CRON

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:34 AM PST

I've paper traded it for a while and i've had it when it was as high as $9 but now it's at $7 and it seems full of potential for 2020

Financially they won't hit full stride for a couple more years but still, is $CRON the move?

    Let me know your thoughts!

    17 Year Old with $30,000

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:24 PM PST

Hello there, this year I resold shoes the last 6 months and made a total profit of $30,000. I currently have that all in my checking account and am wondering what a smart thing to do with the money would be. I have been looking at dividend stocks and whatnot but need some help to point me in the right direction. Thank you so much for you time! (I am new to this, take it easy on me).

My quick DD for Milestone Scientific Inc. (MLSS)

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:32 AM PST

Makes the CompuFlo Epidural System which assists in giving a better epidural injection as opposed to a traditional injection that can lead to complications and higher cost. Studies have been done and one study showed 600 cases without a single dural puncture. Currently working to showcase this system off more and working with insurance carriers to make this the preferred system in hospitals, as well as working with Group Purchasing Organizations which have 3,000 to 5,000 hospitals in their networks, and a contract with RedOne which allows them to sell into all federal medical facilities. I'm excited for this company and would like to see if anyone else has input, thoughts, or comments?

Edit: Shout out to u/Glock_21 for peaking my interest in this stock from another thread!

Oil prices surge as US confirms that Iran’s top commander was killed in airstrike

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 10:45 PM PST

Oil prices rocketed in the morning of Asia trading hours, following confirmation by the Pentagon that Iran's top commander was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad.

The U.S. military took the "decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani," a statement by the U.S. Department of Defense said Thursday night. It was a directive from the U.S. president, the DOD said.

Prices surged as high as 4%, before paring those gains. As of 11.01 a.m. during Asia time, Brent crude was up 2.88% to $68.14 per barrel, while U.S. crude rose 2.70% to $62.82 per barrel.

U.S. futures declined following that development. As of 11:14 p.m ET, Dow futures pointed to a lower open of more than 155 points.

Tax question on self directed brokerage account

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 12:43 PM PST

I currently invest in stock via my companies 401k plan which has the option of moving up to 50% of my 401k into a self directed brokerage. I've been buying and selling pretty frequently not taking into account I may be subject to capital gains. Can anyone confirm if that applies since I am not cashing any of the balance out just reinvesting into other options?

Is now the time to buy CGC?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 12:09 PM PST

I like the cannabis market as a whole. It's clear that it's not becoming less legal anytime soon...we will only see more and more states and countries legalizing it as the years go on and there's proven to be a huge market for it. Was bullish on CGC last year but got out (complete luck) right before the downturn and loss of their CEO.

They have a new, finance minded CEO from constellation. Constellation isn't backing down on their investment and is (for now) sticking behind them. My hope is that the new leadership can make smart financial decisions and navigate this tricky growth phase. Stock is down more than double from its highs of last year, and is leveling out around $20 for the last month or so...is the bad news baked into the price? Is now the time to jump?

    $CRMD?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:31 AM PST

They're developing a solution to lock piccs and midlines with. It's a combo between heparin and some antimicrobial. And the antimicrobial apparently doesn't cause resistance. It's called Neutrolin

Right now we either use heparin flushes or saline. There's nothing on the market or in use that prevents bacterial growth as far as I know. Hospitals are extremely big on preventing central line associated blood stream infections. That's one of the first things they teach you in orientation. It costs them money big time when someone gets an infection in the hospital, cause it creates longer length of stays and of course the big bad sepsis.

It's in phase 3 i'm reading. Haven't delved into any of the trials but it looks promising. Seems pretty simple. Heparin and an antibiotic combo solution. Not sure why anyone hadn't though of that before.

Anyone research this company and is bullish on it?

How realistic are cnn and ft.com forecasts for JD.com and Yandex?

How realistic are these forecasts for JD.com and Yandex? I could not find a reasonable justification for such predictions.

I checked FT.com forecasts and strangely they look very similar.

How come 401k contributions don’t have to be complete share/units to “purchase”?
