I've been seeing this term thrown around a lot, but I don't really fully understand what it means and what its implications are. Why is this bad? And what is the Fed doing exactly?

Fellow stock traders, what has been your worst mistake/biggest regret over your years of trading?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:39 AM PST

I just started investing in August and haven't made any massive mistake yet (easy in a bull market). I'm looking to see if I can learn anything from more experienced traders so I have more knowledge during worse times.

Investors are focused on corporate earnings and this afternoon's Fed decision as well, following the S&P 500′s strongest one-day gain since October and the Nasdaq's best daily gain since September. All the major averages are currently sitting roughly 2% below their all-time intraday highs. (CNBC)
    • Set to help the Dow this morning, Apple (AAPL) shares were up 2% in premarket trading after the company reported blockbuster iPhone revenue of $56 billion for its fiscal first quarter, blowing past estimates, proving that the new iPhone 11 was off to a strong start over the holidays. Overall Q1 profit and revenue were better than expectations. The fastest-growing segment was Wearables, Home and Accessories. (CNBC)
    • CEO Tim Cook says Apple shut one store in China and it's restricting employee travel due to coronavirus (CNBC)
    • Dow components Boeing (BA), Dow Incorporated (DOW) and McDonald's (MCD) lead this morning's list of earnings. (CNBC)
    • GE shares rise 5% after earnings top expectations (CNBC)
    • The Federal Reserve concludes its latest policy meeting today with interest rates almost certainly to remain on hold but officials likely to discuss possible changes to how they manage the central bank's key overnight borrowing rate. • British Airways cancels all flights to and from mainland China on coronavirus fears (CNBC)
    • The Senate has 16 hours, beginning today, to present written questions in President Donald Trump's impeachment trial. • GOP lacks votes to block impeachment trial witnesses (WSJ)
    • Trump's long-awaited Middle East peace plan calls for a state of Palestine with a capital in east Jerusalem. Thoughts on holding $MTCH stock?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:15 AM PST

I'm relatively new to investing in stock, but I've been doing a lot of reading and lurking this reddit for a long time now.

I'm starting with a small investment of $750 spread out between a few stocks, including $MTCH, but after a little more research and thought, Idk how much potential online dating like tinder and match.com have to grow?

Again fairly new, but would like some outside opinion on it

I’m 21 and investing for the first time. I picked out the funds I like and now I’d love some feedback/advice from y’all. Thanks!

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:56 PM PST

    Relevant info:

21M graduating college in around 16 months, no income currently.

Planning to invest $22,000 total, but I can't touch $10,000 of it for 20 years, including gains above the initial 10k.

Goal is to stay out of debt and not touch the other 12k for at least 5-10 years, maybe longer if possible.

Also planning on dollar cost averaging the full 22k over the next 10 months.

With that said, here's my current goal:

Fund Name - (Symbol) - Percentage

    • Vanguard S&P 500 ETF - (VOO) - 46%
    • Principal SmallCap Growth I Instl - (PGRTX) - 10%
    • Fidelity Select Biotechnology - (FBIOX) - 10%
    • Fidelity Strategic Dividend & Income - (FSDIX) - 10%
    • Fidelity International Index Fund - (FSPSX) - 8%
    • Fidelity International Small-Cap Fund - (FISMX) - 6%
    • Fidelity Real Estate Investment - (FRESX) - 5%
    • Fidelity Blue Chip Growth - (FBGRX) - 5%

Thanks in advance for your time!

How can I understand fee jargons without spending dozens of hours?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:14 AM PST

    For instance: https://www.chase.com/content/dam/chase-ux/documents/personal/investments/youinvest_trade_fee_commish_schedule.pdf

Safekeeping fees apply to VTSAX? What if there are dividends involved?

I have other questions about the fees but I don't even know what I don't know. Will I be getting into a contract every time I invest in VTSAX? So the 'legal transfers and returns' fee applies because quarterly dividends (AFAIK that's how VTSAX works) are reinvested?

Side question. Can you trust all brokers who have the SIPC insurance, in the long-term? Such as Tastyworks (founded in 2017)

My goal: Put 5-10K into things like to VTSAX using a few brokers in US as a non-US non-EU person for long term investment.

    Rookie seeks assistance

Sup fellas i'm such a rookie to this shit you might as well call me a waterboi. I've only like 60$ to play around with and am trying to learn the game correctly. Any general tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Currently all in on ET, and I thought INO was going to the moon after hearing they were granted $9mill to develop vaccines for the KUNG FLU but since has dropped significantly after topping out at 5.80ish. They've dropped to a little over 4$ and i lost about 10-12$.

I know this is kinda mediocre at best but i'd really appreciate any help.

    Suggestions to better my portfolio

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 03:07 PM PST

So I put about $1200 into the cash app to buy fractional stocks. I have been doing little day trades (as much as it will allow). Also so you guys know it doesn't let me do options which is probably good because I do not know enough to tackle that just yet. The shares of stocks I have right now are in decreasing percentages of my portfolio. Should I just sit on this stuff long term? That doesn't seem fun and i'm having a lot of fun already whilst learning a ton every day. Just looking for some advice so my money doesn't just sit in my savings an I can make something off of it.

    1. MSFT (31.6%)
    2. APPL (24%)
    3. DIS (17.8%)
    4. AMD (11%)
    5. TSLA (8%)
    6. NFLX (7.6%)

(Im sure you guys will crush me and call me an idiot but whatever)

Intrested in starting to invest in the S&P500 but im shockingly ignorant

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 03:04 PM PST

Ive been looking into investing in the long term, wanted to do something where im adding in around $100 a paycheck, not a lot but its a start. I know that putting money for the longterm in the S&P500 is like basic basic basic shit, which Is why im doing it haha. But my main question is, what stock am I actually buying to invest in this? Lots of people in breakdown videos just say invest in the S&P500 Index but I think im too dumb to even get that right, am I investing in "SPDR S&P 500 ETF" or the "Vanguars S&P 500 ETF" and so on. Probably a dumb question but a constructive answer would be appreciated!

I missed TSLA straddle and now I'm burning inside

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 02:52 PM PST

Bruh I wanted to straddle TSLA so much but I couldn't bc I'm in Europe and cant buy options, so I wanted to emulate a straddle buying 50%long 50%short 50x leveraged contracts before market close, but I didn't bc the bid ask spread was 30%, and not knowing what the implications of this were, I preferred to not touch something I didn't understand.

But fuck I was sure I would swing and I had been preparing for this for the last week, I was so confident, I would've had a big % return from this and I'm burning inside.

Good part is that I temporarely sold my positions to have liquidity to do that so I missed FB 6% loss.
