Tesla beats earnings +650$ After hrs

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 07:18 PM PST

Tesla Inc. stock rallied 12% late Wednesday after the Silicon Valley car maker reported quarterly earnings that topped Wall Street views and set a goal to "comfortably" sell more than 500,000 vehicles this year.

Tesla TSLA+2.49% said it earned $105 million, or 56 cents a share, in the fourth quarter, compared with $140 million, or 78 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted for one-time items, the company earned $2.14 a share, compared with $2 a share a year ago.

Revenue rose 2% to $7.4 billion, compared with $7.2 billion a year ago.

Analysts polled by FactSet had expected the car maker to report adjusted earnings of $1.77 a share on sales of $7 billion.

The after-hours share surge continued as Tesla hosted its conference call with investors, and a mention of potential delays in the Model 3 production in Shanghai due to the deadly coronavirus did nothing to temper investors' enthusiasm.

    21 Investing Lessons in 2019

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:38 PM PST

    Source: https://musingzebra.com/21-lessons-in-2019/

    1. Process first, analysis second, margin of safety last

A robust process can prevent a poor analysis but a good analysis can still create silly mistakes. Let's say a stock is an excellent buy for 10 reasons. That's a good analysis; your judgment comes from facts and reasoning rather than false hope. But what's even better is a robust process. A good process might tell you "Why is that my analysis only consists of supporting evidence? Am I having confirmation bias?" It could also tell you "An excellent buy only need 2-3 reasons max. If I need 10 reasons to convince myself this is a great deal, this could be a warning sign rather than a sign of confidence." A good process catches things that fall outside of our analysis. And that often determines the long-term investment outcomes more than the brilliance of our analysis.

Interest Rate Risks for Cohen & Steers Infrastructure Fund?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 04:20 PM PST

I assume this fund will fall if rates go up as the dividend will be less desirable. Where I am a bit confused is their use of leverage. It appears to use 30% leverage not sure if this is through options, etc. or traditional margin? Will the fund also see an increased cost of capital for that leverage if rates rose?

Opinion: Apple may have had blowout earnings, but these risks to the stock have emerged

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:06 AM PST

Apple stock is overbought, and its valuation is elevated

Apple reported blowout earnings after the stock market closed Tuesday.

Earnings were better than the consensus and the whisper numbers. Still, those numbers are in the rearview mirror. Let's look ahead: The prospects for iPhone 12, a 5G-based phone, just got better.

However, Apple investors and those who want to buy the stock ought to be aware of a nuanced situation that may develop and increase risks. Let's explore with the help of two charts.

Genius Wall Street Analyst realizes every stock is a multi-bagger with a 1% discount rate

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:42 PM PST

Wall Street – A genius Wall Street analyst at a top hedge fund just realized that every stock in the market is a multi-bagger if he uses a 1% discount rate in his DCF model. We were told the analyst shot out of his chair and screamed in excitement when he found out every stock in the market is a multi-bagger when applying a 1% discount rate. The analyst then proceeded to tell his portfolio manager how they needed to 'load the fuck up' on some exchange traded funds ("ETFs"). ETFs are an investment fund on stock exchanges that hold assets such as stocks, commodities and bonds. They are an easy way to get exposure to a broad variety of assets. The portfolio manager recently put out his Q4 investment letter telling his partners how his fund has switched from an active manager to a passive manager in ETFs to get exposure to the entire market. "We just realized every stock in the market is a multi-bagger when using a 1% discount rate and we don't want to miss out on the potential rally when all find out about his arbitrage." The Dow railed 40 basis points upon the news that every stock is a multi-bagger with a 1% discount rate. The S&P 500 fell 90 basis points because sometimes stocks go up and some times stocks go down.
