Quitting a job before you have another one lined up

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:57 AM PST

    Hey all,

I'm looking for a little advise an honestly I've learned so much from all of you I wanted everyone's input.

Long story short, I work for a toxic manager who is also the owner of the company. It's a very small company, less then 25 employees, so no HR. I've tried time and time again to better the working environment but frankly I'm tired of being treated like shit.

I've decided to leave and, as much as it pains me, I'm going to leave in the most professional way possible. Give her 2 weeks, help with finding a replacement, etc.

But my question is how would you handle a possible gap in employment like this in the intervening process?

Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated!

    Happy New Year!

    Sales in UK

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:14 AM PST

Anyone from UK? What do you sell and where and how?

Would be interesting to hear your methods, tactics and tools etc

I sell handmade candles representing UK & Ireland since July. We sell mainly into independent gift shops, gardens centres, visitor/tourist attraction gift shops, museums etc

I have a few independent sales reps on ground, we do few trade shows a year and a dedicated cold calling sales team in Bangladesh that helps me warm up my leads that I get through cold email campaigns.

Med Device rep considering a change

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:05 AM PST

Hey folks. I am currently a rep for a large and well respected med device company. I have my own territory, my numbers and growth are great. For those unfamiliar: I have to be in the OR when my products are used. This means my phone rings on many evenings and weekends, and I have to go in. They are almost never quick or easy cases.

My overall hours per week aren't that bad (35-50ish), but the work/life balance is brutal with the evenings and weekends. Not to mention, due to the nature of the cases being traumatic, the actual surgeries are often difficult and stressful.

I have been doing this for almost four years (first two years as an associate). I am fortunate in the money I make, but it is very stressful. I forget what it is like to not be constantly attached to my phone. I have been taking call for at least one or two weeks per month that entire time, and I forget what it's like to just have every weekend to myself, not care about my phone, or worry about having to go in.

Anyways, I want out of case coverage/call. The caveat is, I freaking love where I live, so I am choosing to limit my options in job hunting. To speak bluntly, I believe I can get just about any med device job I want at this point, and my recent conversations with recruiters and managers seems to support this.

I recognize I have a great job for a great company, and that a lot of people would kill t be in my position, which is why I want to move slowly and cautiously about changing jobs. I am coming to you wonderful people for advice.

I am close to receiving a job offer for a med device that would be clinic and patient-based. It would be a lateral financial move, no case coverage, no call.

    My questions are:

    1. Is there anyone here with experience selling clinic-based med devices? I would call on doctors in their office, sell the device for them to prescribe to their patients (it's good stuff - market share is already solid). The job also includes following up with the patients regarding instruction, satisfaction, and some billing/closure.
    2. Have any of you left ortho and/or trauma rep gigs before? Am I crazy to consider leaving what many believe to be one of the best sales gigs? What other med device gigs would you recommend?

TL/DR I am a med device rep; good money, great resume, but very stressful. Not sustainable. Exploring other med device gigs with no case coverage or trauma call. Advice/thoughts?

Thank you all and happy new year! Get those numbers! Help people get what they need!

Those who hated Car Sales, What job did you transition to that you ended up liking?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:24 PM PST

I was in Car Sales for about a year but eventually left for Insurance sales which I found to dislike even more than Car Sales. Right now Im just working Restaurant job until I find something new.

Has anyone here left car sales for another sales role or job that you got from having sales experience. That you liked more than Car sales. Hopefully better hours and a better life/work balance.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I feel that with most of my experience in service/sales type jobs and I will need to look for something similar to get back to a decent living.

    Customer Service?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:35 AM PST

Since I've worked as CSR for a long while I've found a pattern:

Sending an email and never calling regarding your order will usually mean it gets discarded due to you seemingly not caring about said order.

Threatening to post "everywhere you can" or "might post this on Twitter" just makes you look like a twatwaffle to the random customer service rep assigned to go through emails.

And sending an email with nothing but "cancel" or "unsubscribe" with no info gets canned automatically with most systems.

Any additions? I'm curious as to the common things you see that most people don't realize.

    Finding Businesses

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:32 AM PST

    Hi,

Curious how you find a list of small businesses (in this instance hotels)?

I'm used to targeting mid-market to enterprise, and would use LinkedIn - but this doesn't work for small hotels.

I tried google maps but it's tough to export the data, and I'm not sure if this is the right approach.

    Any advice?

Best books for sales internal and external

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:29 AM PST

Hey - just started a new job which requires business development. This is part of a portfolio I oversee.

If I wanted to read max 3 books, what should they be? Selling my ideas and strategies internally is equally important ...

Just had the worst month I've ever had

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:53 PM PST

This is kind of just a whine post I guess.

I got completely obliterated this month, I know it's the holidays, but I've worked holiday months for awhile and I couldn't seem to get anyone to buy shit this month.

I work in insurance sales, I work outbound, so I receive leads people have generated interest online. If you know anything about insurance, most people are just shopping price. So, majority of my sales come from people who have messed up their online application, or those who just need a nudge in the right direction. I worked Christmas eve, overtime on weekends, and just couldn't pull it through. I stand to make 1/2 what I usually do..

The thing that's even more irritating is seeing someone else I work with just completely crush it. Pretty much everyone he got was under a prime candidate while I was stuck with a ton of DUI clients, ect.

I really hope next month turns around...

    Hi all,

Are there any slack groups similar to r/sales (or another website like discord)? I'd love to find a place I can chat to ask questions.

    Thanks!

    Overcoming the Slump

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:19 PM PST

    Hello Reddit,

So I'm new to car sales. My first two weeks, I felt like a rockstar. I would sell a car AT LEAST every other day, but many times one a day. Then, nosedive! I've had 0 sales for the past week. Does anyone have experience with overcoming this? How did you get out of the slump?

TL;DR: Rockstar to zero. How do I become a rockstar again?

What does "Coca Cola BOTTLING" mean for a sales position?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:19 PM PST

The job listing is kinda vague. Obviously I'll contact them for more details. But, anyone have experience here? Is this the place where they literally bottle the beverages?
