Posted: 26 Jan 2020 01:03 PM PST Hello. I own a pressure washing company. Person calls and needs their roof cleaned, sidewalks cleaned, pool deck cleaned, windows cleaned. I believe when we initially spoke they mightve said they needed the roof cleaned. Typing this out now i know where i made my mistake... And i did it without even knowing it. I quoted all the services besides the roof cleaning because i dont have the expertise at the time to do roofs. Quote was about $625 without the roof. They email me asking why didnt i include the roof cleaning in my proposal. Now im thinking to myself why didnt I tell them that my company didnt clean roofs from the getgo. Should i just tell them that i dont have the expertise to clean the roof? [link] [comments] |
Resources to actually learn HOW to establish a business Posted: 26 Jan 2020 10:13 AM PST Is anyone aware of any resources (podcast, YouTube, other platforms) that actually tell you how to navigate establishing a small business? For example, you need to obtain a business license, tax ID, separate bank account, hiring your first employee, learning to delegate, etc. There are tons of resources with interviews of successful business owners who provide very high level comments on running a business. Are there any resources that discuss some of the more micro level details? I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Jan 2020 12:27 AM PST Anyone ever tried them for your small online business and did it really bring traffic through the roof and a lot of sales or visits? Anytime I see an ad online I just ignore it. They never work on me. I want to try some ads for my website but I honestly can't see how they would work. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2020 12:10 AM PST I'm splitting my time pretty close to 50/50 between Colorado and Florida. I maintain a Florida residency (Mailing address, driver's license, tax filing, etc), but I'm currently in Colorado for the next three months. I'm wanting to register my new e-commerce website as a DBA, so I can open a business checking account. I think I'd actually like to use a Colorado bank for the business account, as I already have a personal account at a Colorado bank and it'd be nice to have them consolidated. That said, I'm not opposed to opening a business checking somewhere else if it's advantageous to do so. Thoughts? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2020 02:49 AM PST I am the general manager of a contracting company. We've had a bit of a dry spell the last couple years in winning new contracts because the market for our traditional core activity has just been bad (down cycle). I have been urging the owner to invest some funds into the company so we could seek new sources of revenue. He is adamant that he will only invest when new business has been won. My argument is that we need to invest first to win new business. The company is always short of capital. This has resulted in a deadlock and I don't know what to do - keep fighting or move on. The situation has become very frustrating and mentally frustrating for me as the manager of the organization. I'm finding it hard to keep the employees motivated. There is one additional detail: I happen to be the owner's son. He loves me personally, but he does not trust me with his capital. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2020 11:16 AM PST And is it wise to do so? I mean, this is given that you do your due diligence in doing the research about the type of business you're starting, the initial numbers needed, the viability based on other competitors in the area, etc. It just seems to me that it's so hard (or should I say time-consuming with my salary) for anyone (especially me) to be able to save up enough money to start a business from my own pocket. Even more so for a business that requires some real estate like a restaurant, bar, studio, etc. I know it depends largely on what type of business/industry I'm going for, but just in general, I was wondering if it's common to take some kind of "startup" loan or something like that when someone starts something up by themselves and not with other partners. And are there any tips/tricks when taking these loans out that would mitigate or minimize risk if the business doesn't perform well down the road? (i.e. documents to look out for when signing, looking for certain specific types of loans, etc.) Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2020 12:08 AM PST I recently received a promotion at a small construction company from carpenter to project manager. I will be dealing with clients directly and multiple projects at once. I'm looking for any advice or good books to read [link] [comments] |
Selling prepared foods at a farmers market..? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 08:09 PM PST Hello, so my goal is to own a food trailer within the next year, there's a local company that makes them for around 10K and I don't want to finance it, so I came up with the idea to sell at local farmers markets to get my business started (since everyone always says just start however you can) instead of sitting around on the idea while I save for it. I wanted to know if anyone has any idea if it's okay to sell prepared entres (chicken sandwiches) at a farmers market in Texas? I can't seem to find anything so Im unsure if I'm just not searching it correctly or what.. Thanks! Sorry for the backstory lolol. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2020 07:58 PM PST Hello everyone! I am conducting a survey for a UX Design Research project and I am hoping this is a good place to submit it. I checked the rules, and I feel like it sort of aligns with #1 in regards to asking people, but it's more in the form of a survey. So I can understand if this is removed, as it seems sort of ambiguous to me. I also remember saving a link on where would be a good place to post surveys that target entrepreneurs and this was one of the suggested subreddits. So this project is for an app that helps determine if what you are trying to create is trademarked or not. It can pertain to your company's idea and purpose within itself, or a logo or image that you're trying to see is trademarked, etc. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LMHW9SM Thanks in advance! EIN # changing company name question Posted: 26 Jan 2020 10:21 PM PST Hi I have a registered EIN number associated with my company name that I haven't done much with yet. I want to change the name a bit. What's the best way to do this? Does it change the number? [link] [comments] |
Questions about debt and loans Posted: 26 Jan 2020 10:01 PM PST I wanted to reach out to the small business owners here, when it comes to taking on debt or loans, what are the best/highest priority requirements that you look for when you are shopping lenders? [link] [comments] |
Do you as a business owner need a better yelp? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 09:42 PM PST |
Small gift shops / boutiques relationship with wholesalers Posted: 26 Jan 2020 03:43 PM PST How do you perceive wholesalers? Value added partners that help increase revenue in your store by creating products that your customers want? Or do you view them as middlemen that unnecessarily destroy your margins? What alternatives do you use to wholesalers? [link] [comments] |
I Made a Hiring Mistake. What's the Classiest Way to Undo It? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 05:11 PM PST I've had my own freelance web dev business for years now; I needed a change (and insurance) and took a full-time job doing software development at another company, thinking in my mind this was temporary, and I'd want a business to come back to later. As it happened a young lady inquired about a job. She had been let go by a marketing department that had been "made redundant." She's kind and talented and I wanted to throw her a lifeline. So, I hired her. I hope she could help me keep my business afloat and maybe even build up our services, and I'd have something I could return to when I was ready to leave my new role. This was a mistake. She's doing a great job, but it's simply a drain my what's left of my business. I'm slowly watching my "nest egg" drain via payroll. I've realize I simply don't have the time to put into managing her, don't have the work to keep her busy, and don't lack the will to have a full-time job and run a business. It was a mistake to hire anyone. So given that, what's the most responsible and gentlest way to convey this to her? Essentially that "you're not fired, but you don't have a job anymore because I don't want to run a business anymore?" [link] [comments] |
Got a (small) idea, how to actually start it? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 04:07 PM PST So the last few days have been reallyyyy hot and I've been seeing a lot of people (girls) walking around with small portable fans, especially at music festivals. And that made me think, wouldn't it be easier if we had a fan on our phone? So I'd like to try and have a small rechargeable fan that you can attach to any phone case. It's either that OR phone cases with a fan in it that would be operated from the phone's battery (but iPhones batteries already suck...) That's just an idea of course I haven't actually started anything and that's because I don't know who to talk to. Where do I get the fans from? The batteries? ect.. I have no electrical knowledge so I was just wondering if there was some sort of company I could pay to make it? Thank you :) [link] [comments] |
Where can we promote our scrunchie business? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 07:46 PM PST Simply Scrunch Co. is the store my girlfriend founded and we would like to reach out to more people online. Where have people had success in marketing similar businesses? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2020 06:51 PM PST I was planning to launch my business last year. An e-scooter style rental system for surfboard and paddle boards that lock up to a parked trailer. I had everything working and the business was getting ready to launch but I ran into some snags and the city (San Diego) wouldn't allow me to operate with out permits. I was playing phone tag with city officials but couldn't get anything accomplished. How do you all go about getting permits? Should I lawyer up? The first lawyer I hired to do my business stuff completely whiffed on the permitting and said I was totally in the clear... Which was clearly not the case.... [link] [comments] |
Help with Clover POS system, purchased used? Factory reset? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 10:23 AM PST Hi everyone, I purchased a Clover 1.0 Wireless POS Touch Pad from a garage sale and am looking to sell, but don't have the wires to test it myself. I was told it works and it's in great shape but I now have an interested buyer who wants to purchase but isn't sure about how to log into the system and run the apps - does anyone know if there's a way to contact Clover and do a factory re-set? Wish I'd grabbed the seller's contact info but I didn't realize it at the time...hope it's OK to post here, not sure if this would be better in a flipping sub...thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2020 02:02 PM PST Any advice on expanding a construction company. Currently me and a labourer, running since feb last year. Have had work booked in since last year up until march but the past 2 weeks I've had several job offers of both good 1 off jobs and good contacts with continuous work. My prices are decent and average/ higher for the area, we turn out good work. I get mostly brickwork and paving but also a lot of and I prefer general building. I'd like to expand but am u sure how. Slightly unique home bakery idea. I would like to hear your thoughts Posted: 26 Jan 2020 05:19 PM PST Hello, I enjoy baking and would like to sell my goods for some side money. I live in an apartment complex with around 600 residents and with the permission of my apartment complex I would like to try and use them as my customer base. My idea is Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday I would have a bake sale on one specific product. So one day pie, next cinnamon rolls, next banana bread, and so on. It would just be constantly rotating in types of baked goods for each day. The way it would work is that I go door to door with samples to get people to sign up and add me on snapchat/instagram. Once people are following my social media accounts, I will advertise what I am selling on each individual day. If a person wants pie then they will just send me a message and then I will run it to their door when I start baking for the day. I feel like this differs from typical home bakeries. If it is better or for worse, I am unsure. I would like to know if you think this has some potential or if I should just give up before I have invested too much time into it. Thanks [link] [comments] |
