Need help—health insurance company has erroneously removed me and only me from my mother’s family plan at the age of 23 and aren’t fixing it

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:31 PM PST

To start, my mother absolutely didn't remove me from her plan or switch to an individual plan and is as confused about this as I am.

I'm 23 and my mother's is my primary insurance, always has been. It's a family plan of me, my two minor brothers, and my sister who is 24. Of note is my sister lives at home and is in school but I've moved out and have a job. I did not sign up for insurance through my job because my mother's is better and I technically also have my father's so don't think I can have 3/didn't want to mess with my coverage.

In June or so I changed my address in the insurance portal to my apartment address for privacy bc my mother was opening my EOBs.

Next thing I know come early December I get a letter from insurance saying that I'm now an ineligible dependent and my coverage will end as of 12/31/19 I freak out and call them and the rep says it's a mistake and he'll push through the request to extend coverage. Come early January I find out I'm still uninsured when I try to fill a prescription. I call again, this time a rep says my mother needs to fill out a "coordination of benefits form for young adults" to continue my coverage. No problem, I tell my mother and she did so about 3 weeks ago. Coverage still doesn't resume. My mother confirms that neither she nor any of my siblings is having issues/they're all still covered.

I call again last Friday and the guy says that it was all a mistake and he's sorry and coverage will resume in 48 hours. We're pushing a week and I am still uninsured (I can check in the portal and my pharmacy confirmed) and I have no idea what's going on. It feels like none of the reps fully know what happened to kick me off the plan and clearly none of them have been able to fix it. I've combed through the description of the plan on the website and I should be 100% eligible until 26 even living outside the home and of course under the ACA.

I again do not have insurance through my work and my mother has not removed me. I think it's related to my address change/filing taxes as independent bc my sister who is older than me isn't having issues, but it's my understanding that that shouldn't be a problem or make me ineligible.

I'm getting desperate—any idea of what is happening or tips on what to say to get them to actually do something when I call tomorrow? Is it too much to ask for a supervisor?

    Question about a totaled vehicle?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 12:56 AM PST

Hi I have a question so my 2016 Acura Tlx has been declared a total loss by my insurance USAA. They have agreed upon a settlement of $21,000. Since we transferred all ownership to usaa. Do we get the $21,000 to buy ourselves a replacement car or would the money be used to pay off our car to the finance company that we took out the loan from. Sorry this is the first time this happened to me. Please help

Other driver’s insurance adjuster. Need advice!

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:56 PM PST

So my wife was in an accident in Mid November when an elderly man turned left, and struck her vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign. There were no witnesses, but the police were called, came to scene, and made a report. The report describes the above narrative and stated that the elderly driver turned too far, and failed to maintain his lane. There were no injuries, no citations, and the damage is cosmetic only.

After the accident we contacted our insurance, obtained a copy of the police report. Our insurance put us in contact with his insurance because we didn't want to shell out a deductible and take a chance of our premiums increasing.

Dealing with his adjuster has been a nightmare, and she's put us off for nearly 3 months. When we finally got ahold of her after multiple attempts, she told us her insured was telling a different story, and that she was trying to get ahold of the police officer. After that, she was waiting on body cam footage, then she needed more photos from us. Today, after I left her several voice mails, she finally calls me back to tell me she's denying our claim because her insured is telling a different story. I ask about the police report, and she tells me the officer did a bad job. She apparently contacted the officer attempting to have him change his story, but was unsuccessful.

Can an adjuster in good faith make this call solely based off the statement of her insured, while disregarding the police report? Also, is there anything else I can do to push back asides from paying my deductible and having my insurance subrogate? I have been keeping detailed records, and plan on filing a formal complaint with my states insurance commissioner, although I don't know how much that will help. I appreciate any advice!

    Who Do I Owe?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 01:01 AM PST

I got a letter from my insurance that they denied a claim from my doctor under the excuse "non-participating provider". The letter from my insurance says it is my "responsibility to pay $6,000", but the letter clearly states "THIS IS NOT A BILL". I checked on my insurance profile and it says I have no outstanding bills. Also, my doctor clearly has my insurance on file, told me they accept my insurance, and they already performed the service (I needed a dental appliance for sleep apnea). So who do I owe? If insurance doesn't cover it I don't think I owe them, but my doctor hasn't said anything to me, and I've seen my doctor several times since.

    Definition of "writing" premium

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:04 PM PST

What does "2019 written premium = $100b" actually mean?

    - Does it mean the $ value of new sales in 2019 was $100b?

    - Or does it mean that in 2019 $100b in premiums were collected regardless of when the policies were sold?

    - Or something else?

Rear Ended, car totaled. Insurance won't cover personal goods lost

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:21 AM PST

I was rear ended by a texting, speeding driver last week and the trunk of my car (Honda civic) was completely destroyed. I had about $1000 worth of gear in my trunk- mountaineering and climbing gear. I live in MA which is a no fault state, and my insurance company is telling me they won't accept my personal goods to be included in my claim, that I would have to go through the other person's insurance company for that (and they may decide to not cover them as well). Is this typical or is it something I can argue?

Currently on my parents car insurance plan, if I change my license to the current (different state I live in) will that affect insurance rates?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:03 PM PST

As mentioned, i'm currently on my parents automobile insurance plan. Because i'm a full time student, I've been living out of state and haven't 'needed' to register my vehicle / change my license. However, I want to update my license. Will updating to the state I currently reside in change my insurance rates / need to be disclosed?

    Thanks for your help

    State Farm student discount

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 08:53 PM PST

How often does State Farm ask for an updated transcript? Per semester or per year? I'm in a bit of a situation at the moment and not in school. Would State Farm notice me sending the same (not updated) transcript twice?

Can't accept a pay raise at work without a net loss of income.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 08:29 PM PST

Hello everyone, I'm posting here as well as on an insurance reddit to ask for some advice.

I just had my 6 month review at work and have been offered a $1/hr raise. I'd love to take it as I'm also going to be taking on more responsibility at my job, but here's my problem:

I'm currently on WA state health insurance and that has an income limit. With my new raise, I'll be making too much money to be on the insurance, but not enough money to pay for as good of health insurance from another company so overall it would be a net loss in money (more expensive insurance + copays etc.). I can't find a way to pay to keep state insurance, so I'm thinking I should decline the raise.

I explained this all to my boss, and he offered that if I can't accept the raise we could figure out a different way to compensate me for my extra work besides a raise.

Does anyone have insurance advice? Know of any ways I can pay to continue receiving state insurance or of good insurances available in the Pacific Northwest?

If not, any ideas for other ways I could be compensated for my work besides a raise?

I'm currently an administrative assistant with mostly simple duties such as filing and answering calls. My new responsibilities will be kind of like a personal assistant: managing my boss' schedule, taking notes on their billable time, facilitating communication between them and the rest of our team. I work about 28 hours a week if that matters.

    Thank you in advance!!

Applying for life insurance with a *Sealed* Federal case yet still on probation

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 04:36 PM PST

Seems like an interesting one to me. I am completing a life insurance policy and it's asking if I've been convicted of a felony. My federal case is completely sealed so I am legally allowed to deny anything has ever happened. My record is completely clean. So it's my understanding that I can legally deny I've ever been convicted.

The big question is they also ask if I'm on parole or probation. I still have 6 more months of probation and then I'm 100% done with all of this. We just had a baby a few months ago and figured life insurance was the right thing to do.

Do I need to report that I am on probation if the probation is for a sealed case?

    Possible Career Options: Damage Insurance

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 07:11 PM PST

Hello everyone I have a few insurance career questions(Long term), I don't even know if this is the right place to ask. I am currently a 22 year old who has a few years of experience in this industry. I am currently pursuing a finance degree as I work as a personal lines broker.

Hopefully when I finish my diploma, I'm might be interested to join an accelerated two year commercial underwriter program, I think it's something I would enjoy and I assume the pay would be rewarding as well.

Recently I was given the option of joining our commercial sales team, I would start the position after my exams in about 6 months. I'd like to know is a career in commercial insurance in any way better than being a commercial underwriter in terms of pay? What are the pros and cons of each job and which one would pay better? I know that the money isn't the only thing but I feel I would enjoy either or.

What is the most beneficial pay structure for a commercial broker for someone who is a good seller?

    Options of:

    1. Commercial underwriter for an Insurer
    2. Private commercial broker

Questions: 1. What is better between the two? 2. Pros and cons 3. Pay structure for a commercial broker

I live in Canada if that can help! Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

    Hawaii P&C state law

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:52 PM PST

    What's up everyone...

    Anyone in Hawaii?

I've passed the P&C national Exam on my first try..

But I'm stuck on the state laws which I have failed 4 times already.

I've used America's Professor which I felt the state laws didn't cover enough.

So I spent more money and bot the whole Kaplan course just for the state law section and still can't pass...

Any one else have this issue??

Buying a townhome Palm Beach County FL

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:31 PM PST

    My question is this:

I am purchasing a townhome, my loan processor said that I need to obtain 1 year of Homeowner's insurance coverage in an amount no less than the loan amount ....$375,000

I received a quote provided by an affiliate of the Account Manager with the dwelling coverage of $376,000 - full coverage. This amount covers the amount of the loan with a premium of $1613/yr. They shopped it around and came back with a quote from the same insurance company I currently have car insurance with.

I called the company direct and got a quote with a dwelling coverage of $283,000 also full coverage with a premium of $882/yr, but is not equal to or more than the amount of the loan.

It's my understanding that dwelling coverage is used to cover the cost of materials and labor associated with having to rebuild the home if there were a catastrophic loss. Not taking into consideration land, placement or demand. Why is the loan processor asking to cover the cost of the loan? It seems excessive, are they working with processor just to get a bigger commission?

Seeking auto claim advice - damaged vehicle, insurance wants to total.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:36 PM PST

Hello I backed up against a pillar scratching and denting the side of my car. It is totally drivable but there is definitely paint missing, scuffing, and some dents.

I filed a claim and thought no way the cost tp repair would exceed $2,000 but I was way wrong. I received the estimate today of close to $4000 with the vehicle valued according to insurance at $5,700. As it is more than 80% of the cost they want to total. We do not feel that we should accept that is it is still drivable. Their other option is to salvage it and then go through the state to get a rebuilt title. I think this option is also no good considering the vehicle is still perfectly drivable but it is just cosmetically damaged.

Can I cancel my claim and get the car back without "salvaging" the title? Are there any other options I can pursue? This happened in Georgia. If there is any other relevant info that I am forgetting please let me know. Thanks in advance.

First Rights Salvage has been removed from policy and they won't reinstate it

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:34 PM PST

So for the last few years probably about 8 years I have been with a specialised insurance company for enthusiast vehicles in Australia.

During this time I've had a Proton Jumbuck ute, a Toyota Hilux ute, a 60 series Landcruiser Wagon, a Foton Tunland, now an LDV T60.

Received my renewal notice today to renew my insurance for another 12 months, and I've now lost the policy part that says I have first rights to salvage at no cost, so I call them up.

Apparently they now have a policy that they will only do it for vehicles 35 years or older, which to me seems a bit of an auto age to pick because he said that it was only historic vehicles that could have it, however the age for historic vehicles is 30 years to my knowledge and from what I can find on the registry site.

Is this generally normal that I can make such a big change to policy without even telling you that it's coming? Because honestly to me this is a massive draw card, or was a massive draw card to go with this insurer over anyone else.

And the big thing is is that they have not adjusted the cost of the policy to match the loss of features, I'm still paying more this year than what I was last year.

Will the at-fault driver’s insurance company payout without doing damage assessment, i already sold my damaged car.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 03:03 PM PST

I recently got into an accident and the other driver's insurance company has just accepted fault. However, i am planning on moving out of state within a couple of days and have already sold my vehicle. They are prepared to send a direct-deposit check to me regarding this accident (due to my vehicle's low value, it will be considered a total loss) HOWEVER, i am no longer in possession of the vehicle and cannot easily set up an appointment for the adjuster to come do a damage assessment, but i am being told they will not pay out without having a Farmer's Insurance adjuster come look at my vehicle. I have photos of the damage on the vehicle, and i have a mechanic friend that can do a damage assessment for me based on photos he has already taken of my car. However they told me they will only payout once their OWN adjuster comes to assess the damages. Is this true? And if so, do i have any additional options? I had to sell my car for very cheap due to the damages caused, and have lost a lot of work due to the accident. How can i proceed? I am in state of Hawaii if that matters.

(ALSO, i only had liability insurance through Geico at the time, and because i sold my car i have since cancelled the policy.)

    Insurance company low balling estimate

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 09:31 AM PST

I called my insurance to file a claim and was told to use the insurance company's app to take photos so they could do an estimate and send me a check. I also decided to have a body shop inspect my vehicle and give me an estimate. The estimate from the insurance is much lower than what the shop says the repairs will actually cost, but they are only willing to pay me the amount on the insurance companies quote. How do I get them to pay the actual cost of repairs? I am not sure when or if I will get the repair done, so having the shop submit a supplement after the fact isn't practical

    Dental mishap & insurance

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:11 PM PST

Hi. Hopefully I can get some advice here regarding this issue.

On Jan 6 I went in for a routine 6 month cleaning. The tech doing the work lost control of the polisher and knocked my front tooth #9. She apologized, and as I felt no pain or damage, we moved on.

A week and a half later that tooth is sensitive. I manage to get the dentist to look at it today and explained what happened and he did a knock test on the tooth. Pain. X ray revealed nothing troublesome. He referred me to an endodonist for further testing, to include a tooth pulp vitality test. The next appointment they have is Feb 17.

    All of which seems kosher.

My question is he is billing me and the insurance company for this test and work. This does not seem right. Why am I and my insurance paying for the tech's mishap? Shouldn't the dentist's insurance be doing that?

    Pedestrian accident (adjusters please help)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 11:59 AM PST

Location: GA Hit a pedestrian a few weeks ago. She had a hoodie up and earbuds in and I was making a left turn and simply did not see her. She was in the crosswalk. No drinking, texting, drugs of any kind...just an honest mistake and I feel horrible about it. Long story short, ambulance came and she was taken to the hospital. She has a knee fx and I believe they did a inpatient knee surgery, she also had a small bruise and I think they said a mandible fracture (no surgery needed for it). My insurance is StateFarm. I have 100k/300k/100k possible. No assets, just a 10 year old car and a small 401k savings. I have called my insurance and they are opening a claim. No citation was cited by the police (pretty sure that doesn't matter). Any BI adjusters that can give me input or insight?
