Anyone interested in an anonymous salary posting platform for sales professions Posted: 25 Jan 2020 04:32 PM PST Hey sales people of reddit, I recently came across this article : https://www.reddit.com/r/sales/comments/60ir2k/any_other_sales_forums_you_guys_like_to_use/ And was wondering if anyone would be interested in using a platform where you can see and post anonymous salary, OTE, average deal sizes, and job reviews in a more clear and concise fashion than Glassdoor. Ofc it'll be permanently free to use, and eventually it can serve as a job board when it amasses a growth of users. Glassdoor is all over the place when it comes to salary postings, and it seems that the salaries on the site are lower than they are in reality. Essentially a platform that is similar to levels.fyi but for sales oriented jobs. It could also serve as an anonymous discussion place/forum for sales people as well. I'm not a salesperson yet - currently just student majoring in Information Systems and interested in making products. I am pursuing a career in sales and want to make something that would benefit sales people or people looking to break into the industry. I've been hacking together a design all day and have my wireframe done, just want to validate this idea and if its worth building. [link] [comments] |
I'm absolute sh*t at cold emailing Posted: 26 Jan 2020 05:47 AM PST Hey, I've been cold emailing with a decent email opening rate(36% is nice I guess) but there are almost ZERO rates of engaging any further. So it's the email copy that sucks and not the subject headline. The goal is to set online appointments with prospects. Business: Building websites for restaurants, preferably mom and pop to medium size. So far I generated many sales via inbounds with references but I cannot turn a blind eye to outreaching. And calling is not an option, so emailing is my tool. I am not even gonna write what I send considering that generates absolute nothing, it literally means anything is better than what I do. What must I do? Any resources, templates, guidance, training, and advice are welcome. Cheers, [link] [comments] |
Any Comapanies in The Toronto Area You Recommend For SDR/BDR? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 11:24 AM PST I'm graduating this June with a BA in Business and have about 2 years of commercial pest control sales experience. I would love to get into the Tech/SaaS sales field and I'm going to start applying next week to SDR/BDR jobs. I was wondering if anyone here had some good companies they could recommend in Toronto for this role? I know this is a long shot but if anyone here in the Toronto area could help me get a job I would get you a gift and It'd be extremely appreciated. Thank you all! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2020 09:49 AM PST I'm in a unique position currently. I have my own business, however, timing and a few other options will most likely lead me to close it up. I've been looking at a different career path for my future. Been in/around retail since I was 6 (36 now) through family businesses and my own ventures. One of my favorite brands in my industry is going to start hiring salespeople in March/April, and I've got an in w/ them (CEO loves me, loves the path I've built in my stores w/ their brand, etc) and I've made myself into a top 20 national store. I know the brand. I know the benefits and how it works, etc. I have a unique point of view that most others won't have since I come from a retail store dealing with their problems (a few) and the ability to look at things from the end consumer. But I want to learn and maximize the opportunity, so I'm looking for some of your top reads about learning sales leadership and such. I have led a small team, but I feel confident in my ability to scale that as needed. I'm great w/ organization, planning & communication. The job will require me to travel (fine w/ me) and ideally, I'd like to position myself to the head of the sales - and work on filling out a sales team, leading it, and then bringing the brand into a new country for them. I feel like this will maximize my ability the best, be the best financially, and put me in a great position. So, what books should I read? any training modules/classes or such online? Any great YouTube channels to watch/follow? I'm 100% confident in my ability, but I want to make sure that I'm 100% prepared to lead and deliver results. [link] [comments] |
Advice needed on Job offer - Details Inside - Capped Commission vs Uncapped Posted: 26 Jan 2020 11:48 AM PST So, Currently in the middle of juggling two offers, both within the mfg industry. One is selling manufacturing service solutions to engineers, senior technical/management teams leading them from conception to maturity. The other is a testing service for the mfg industry. Both are similar verticals I've had exposure to but have not had any direct experiences selling in. Mfg role is offering 80-90k base and UNCAPPED commission. Mileage compensation @ $0.52 & 3k year car allowance. Company offers a 6 year perpetuity plan on closed deals. Still early in discussions, negotiation possible on salary. Pro: Uncapped commission + work from home, small/medium customer portfolio <100. Large company 1B+ Con: Limited mentorship since it's home office based, 3-6month sales cycle, conversion type sales, minimal experience selling mfg solutions. Service role is offering 120k base (firm), 6k in car allowance, 20% base with bonus multipliers up to 3X and fuel reimbursement. Pro: Large company 1B+, good structure, majority of the time sales cycle is quick (<30days). Familiar with company and sales model Con: Multiplier potentially difficult to meet. Large customer base to manage 100+. Given the options above, how would you justify your decision? What would you weigh on your decision-making process on? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2020 11:40 AM PST Hey all, I need help with my company's sales and marketing process. Essentially, I need a sales and marketing expert who can help me get my company growing. I have customers but I am not at all talented in sales or marketing. For reference, I sell human resources consulting services to small and medium businesses. [link] [comments] |
My first conference tomorrow - what am I expected to do? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 10:58 AM PST So tomorrow will be the first conference I've ever attended. Affiliate Summit West in Vegas, if that means anything. But generally it's a tech conference for digital advertising. My company has a booth. What should I do to occupy my time? I'm in inside sales. I'm new to the company but I'm expected to know what the hell I'm doing, even if I don't fully know the product. This isn't uncomfortable to me as I used to sell art on cruise ships and mingling with people in the gallery and approaching people was pretty common place... but I'm still not sure what people typically do at these things? Any expectations of meeting people and taking notes? Anything I can do to really leave a good impression with my new bosses? Etc... Thanks for the feedback! ***UPDATE - I'm only attending for the Meet Market*** so a really fast paced 6-hours of shotgun style meeting, I think???*** [link] [comments] |

What’s your favorite bluetooth headphone for cold-calling? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 10:01 AM PST I'm on the bus everyday for over an hour. Besides the fact that it smells incredibly musty, it's a complete waste of an hour. I've decided that if nothing else, I could use this time to make calls. The only problem is that it sounds like a construction zone, haha. That's why I'm looking for earbuds or headphones that have excellent noise cancellation and clear audio. Preferably, they'd be inconspicuous. For this reason, I was considering the AirPods Pro. Do you have experience with them? Or is there something else that you'd been using that you recommend? Switching from Sales into Business Development? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 04:55 AM PST Hi, currently I am working as a Sales Distributor Manager in a scientific B2B company, where I am mainly responsible for managing and supporting our distributors (mainly in Asia) to sell our devices there. So, I am basically not selling myself drectly (except in a few cases mainly via eMail in countries, where we dont have a distributor yet, because there is not a lot going on - like Sri Lanka). This job is fun in many ways for me, but I am currently still considering to change the company, as I really cannot identify with the direction of my company anymore, atmosphere is going downhill steeply, crazy growth targets are given out that nobody of the sales guys really believe in as they are unrealistic, but CEO determined it like that and they are completely radical about that and dontaccept any doubts or anything. While I will really miss some of the work (mainly with the distributors, as this is an amazing experience), I feel it is better for me to switch, as the current level of stress is really starting to burn me out. I have a PhD in chemistry and also a B.Sc. in Economics. With my current sompany, we were supplying to companies in pretty much every industry, as our devices are for applications that you can find everywhere. AS a result, I really got a lot of insight into many applications, approaches etc, as every day I was working in a different world (Food the one day, metal coating the next, oil recovery on the third and so on...). DUring my job and now reflection my willingness to change some things, I was thinking about what parts of this job were the most fun for me. I liked the contact with the customer in person (while doing a demo, really talking about the application, understanding their world, learning about their processes and then figuring out how we could fit in there, how we can help etc.) I liked understanding the world of the customer, understanding the science behind this and also considering how this might translate to other markets, other customers etc and how to get deeper into this market segment, who else to approach etc. And what I really loved was develloping more targeted presentations with the pain of the customer in mind and also how to really adress him in an entertaining and didactic inviting way - and of course also holding the presentations. What I did not like so much in comparison was the more "sales-like" things - negotiations about price, permanent follow-up and all this "sales dance". Basically I love to develop in a sales oriented way and teaching "science"; I want to transfer science from the lab to the market. As in our company now the role of "Application Market Managers" were created which basically are responsible for doing exactly this. Analyzing and understanding markets, visiting customers to really see and learn from these people (basically by travelling with the sales people) and then develop like a "sales approach" how we approach these customers, which story to tell, really target our solution to what they need and not talk about features). And this feeling like exactly what I want to do. Unfortuantely, I was not considered for this position, this was done completely without my knowledge, but as I was only 1.5 years in the company and am basically in an unreplacable position (we are 2 people for the world of distributors, which are basically all countries besies Cental Europa, USA and China). But this kind of job feels like exactly what I would like to do and what I would love to do. Therefore I came to the conclusion, that a Business Development position might be perfectly suited for me, where I could focus on exactly that. I was wondering, if maybe some of you went the same way, have some experience with that and could give me some input. Haben a PhD and also economics degree should be a good way to get into this, I would assume. I feel like my profile could really fit into this position. Am I missing something? And the most important question: Am I overlooking something about this? :) Thanks for all the input!! [link] [comments] |
About to have final interview at 3pl logistics act.mgr soon. Should I ask for raise? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 08:18 AM PST Not salary but it is 36k/year and over 30% commission ithink? but only after 6 months and have to build your own book of business so thatll take a while. I had an idea for a "raise" I want to ask for a $1k signing bonus that way I can give it to my fiance to help her pay for school..... I feel like that by asking for 'something' itll make them more invested in me and will make me more committed too.... Thoughts? I could also ask for more pto but thats no big deal to me atm, Or ask for ..idk better health deductibles or 401k matching? But thats messy and confusing. Thoughts or is this a cringe mood? (Socially unaware if it is lol). [link] [comments] |
Redditors: Who Sells The Most Unusual or Interesting Product?? And How Did You Get Into This Role? Posted: 25 Jan 2020 07:15 PM PST We have a lot of Software, Car Dealership and Software guys in here but i was wondering: Who is in here selling stuff like yachts, helicopters, weapons for the army, nuclear reactors, hollywood product placements or other things that are pretty uncommon, interesting or super niche Whats your story? How does your day look like? Whats your biggest challenge? What do you make roughly per year? Do you like it? Pros and cons? [link] [comments] |
Am i the only one not getting people who answer the phone???? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 05:08 AM PST I'm so frustrated!!! Been in sales many years and its always been a challenge getting people to answer their phones, but lately seems to have gotten worse. On average i make appr 50 outbound coldcalls/day (calling on VPs or Directors of companies w/ 1000+ employees) and lucky if i even get 1 person to pick up the phone! Just curious if my experience is similar to others. Also has anyone found a voicemail message that actually gets returned calls??? I've had a few but not enough to sustain my pipeline or support a huge sales quota.... would love to hear your thoughts. [link] [comments] |
Strong track record, How would you transition into Big Tech Sales? Posted: 26 Jan 2020 04:57 AM PST This is a great community and I'm hoping for your help & advice. After 12 years selling I took 2019 off to think about the direction of my career. I spent that time traveling, living off 10+ years of saved commissions, and finally decided I would like to jump into big software / tech sales such as ERP or SaaS e.g. big ticket implementations. Have you had success transitioning into this arena mid-career, from an unrelated industry? What was your path? A little background: I've had a fairly lucrative career selling across various B2B industries. My background is unique in that wherever I work I'm always client facing as an effective salesman; but I'm also always pulled into internal product development, marketing or IT projects. In 2019, for example, I developed out an entire CRM for my previous employer. In 2018 I spearheaded a Data Analytics Initiative which produced a company wide forecasting model; All while still selling in an 18 state territory and growing the territory 166%. My technical capabilities are always commended by management and I want to build on that. I have the experience selling to Fortune 500s too, just not working inside of any F500s The problem is I'm really not getting interviews in tech and I do not know any friends-of-friends who can "get me in" at a heavy hitting tech firm. In your experience, what is the best approach to locking down a SaaS sales interview without previous Tech Sales history? FYI, my industry experience is Commercial Real Estate, Construction, Outdoor Advertising and FDA Plastics. What are your thoughts? [link] [comments] |
New York Life: Awards and Compensation Posted: 26 Jan 2020 02:21 AM PST Hi guys, I need some advice from anyone that has had some experience working with New York Life. I recently met a recruiter at a job fair about joining the company after leaving my old brokerage firm (was there for about 10 months). Left mainly due to poor training, bad managers and toxic environment. I am young, hungry to learn and eager to earn a great income. I also realized that I enjoy getting recognized for my hard work and getting compensated fairly for what I put into my business. I have seen a lot of people post about "Executive Council", "Centurion 100" and pictures of people posting in fancy suits at cocktail parties. Does anyone know what the qualifications for these things are? Seems like it's only for the top agents in the company? I would really appreciate any insight on how well they pay their agents and what I need to produce to be part of those awards/banquets. I previously was producing about $50k in first year commissions on insurance and made about $35k in compensation...would love to know where I am in comparison to qualifying for those awards. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Would you take a pay bump to sell an inferior product? IT related Posted: 25 Jan 2020 07:58 PM PST This one is for those in the IT field but is broad enough for anyone to weigh in In my world, there is a general consensus that most organizations will be moving towards the cloud for hosted solutions (aka SaaS solutions). That is what I am selling in my current role and doing very well. However, I've recently been offered a position that sells the same type of solution, however it is an on-prem system which eventually the cloud will displace over time. It seems like an easy decision but the catch is that they are offering about 40% more & a larger territory. Would it be unwise to pass on this? [link] [comments] |
How much time between jobs is a red flag? Posted: 25 Jan 2020 01:25 PM PST I'm 27. Been working in sales for 4 years, the past 2 as an SDR/AE for a tech company. The company is going downhill so I don't expect to be here much longer, but when I leave I was hoping to travel for a couple months. Would this be career suicide? Would love to hear some stories of people who did the same thing [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2020 06:22 PM PST I developed and bootstrapped a B2B SaaS that I've managed to market well enough to get a stream of leads through PPC and other Integration exposure. I know the exact type of business for my SaaS product. I could write a scraper for gathering companies emails / details from some different sites to then cold email (or call). If anybody has done this, did it seem more worthwhile than PPC leads? I find a lot of companies just don't even know a solution like mine exists for their problem and so they just continue to keep doing the same old thing. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2020 08:11 PM PST I started working at La fitness on December 19. I have sold 22 memberships so far , but im curious as to what advice and tips everyone has. Job consists of calling your leads (50 calls per day or so), gathering 15 leads, and selling. And other experience? I feel like I am doing bad [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2020 08:10 PM PST Hey all, would really appreciate any advice. Sell B2B SAAS for tiny startup and have been at this deal since last July but deal is about to die. Success would make our company. Meet the CMO at an event who said our product does exactly what he wants and meets a need that's a priority. Introduces to VP right-hand woman who also says she wants to do it and can easily find me a pilot group of 30 people (out of a company of 10,000+). Would be busy until Jan but says why don't I do a demo for someone on his team, person C. If he likes it, then we will all talk in January. Do demo in-person in December and this person C loves the program. Says it does everything they want. He's only been at the company 3 months. We talk about different pilot groups, he says maybe group "X" would be good, they will check with that person but if not we can find another. Says even if X is good, they would need VP or CMO to sign off anyway, so we will go back to them in Jan.. Person C says they will email group "X" that day to let me know if it's big enough, etc. Then nothing. Never writes me about group "X", don't hear in Dec. Goes away for holidays. For three weeks I've emailed, called, sent more information, suggested anything, just nothing. Tried to get in touch with VP but she said "Person C is running this program, they will keep me updated" Then last Friday at 5pm person C says "Oh, I've been looking for pilot group but we won't be doing it, sorry!" I called them and left a VM but again no response from C. What can I do? Person C wasn't supposed to kill the program---we needed VP to choose the group anyway since C has been there 3 months. This group X was just one idea and we can do anything else but maybe someone there didn't want to do it. Can I: 1)Send an email to all three people saying we just want 30 people and I have ideas on this? I even know someone in another department who might volunteer to do it. Worried though I will just get a"sorry" blow off email in response. 2)Should I try to book a call with VP or CMO? Always reluctant to go over someone's head but I don't think I will ever hear from C again. 3)Go back to the VP or CMO with an email? Feeling crushed since this would have made our entire year and boss is counting on me. Thanks all. [link] [comments] |
