GEICO car insurance - do I have to sign a named driver exclusion form?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:26 PM PST

My sister was driving my car (I was in the car too) with my permission in 2018 when we had a fender bender. I submitted a claim but nothing came of it because we had no witnesses or dashcams and GEICO said it was a "he said she said" so there was nothing they could do. Whatever, there wasn't any damage but it irked me.

Today, I get a call from GEICO following up on that accident in 2018 and they're requesting me to either add my sister to my policy (and therefore and increase in premium) or sign this named driver exclusion form.

The policy states that coverage includes me and my relatives with explicit permission to drive. She doesn't even live in the state/same household and will (maybe) drive my car once a year when she's in town. Do I have to sign this form to exclude her? Thanks for the help!

GEICO vs Progressive adjuster trainee position

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:26 PM PST

I'm in the final interview phase for both companies to become an insurance adjuster trainee and had a few questions.

    • According to what I saw online, Progressive has a higher starting salary but GEICO tends to have a lighter workload/friendlier work environment and will pay you overtime while Progressive won't. Can anyone confirm?
    • I'm going in for a role-play interview with GEICO next week. Any suggestions/tips?
    • I've done an online assessment, an "on-demand" video interview, filled out my background check with progressive, and now have a video interview with managers coming up soon. Any suggestions/tips on the video interview?
    • Will either company contact my previous employer regarding whether or not I was fired?
    • Which company would you recommend?
    • Does either company pay more for being bilingual?
    • At what point should I mention that I'm very interested in CAT duty?

    Thank you!

    Edit: Grammar errors

At fault car accident, likely under $2k

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 02:30 PM PST

I scraped another car in the parking lot today. The damages look minimal on both cars, so I am hoping it will come out to be under $2k each car. The scrape on my own car ended up looking more severe than on the other.

How much do car insurance premiums typically go up after this type of accident? Would I save money if I choose NOT to get my own car fixed or would my premiums go up regardless? My car is 2.5 years old.

Also, the other guy did not want to exchange insurance until he got a price estimate, we only exchanged contact. But I already reported this to my insurance.

Should I go through insurance? Or allow them to pay out of pocket?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 07:56 PM PST

About 2 weeks ago, I was rear-ended. It wasn't particularly bad, but it left a large scratch on my bumper and a bit of a dent. She really doesn't want to go through insurance and said that she has a family member who does car repairs. I want it fixed correctly, I don't really care who does it as long as it's done well. What should my next steps be? I've kept all communication through text.

Laundry bin at work hit my car

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 05:56 PM PST

There are no signs posted waiving the job responsibility of damage to vehicles (something I see often in municipal lots).

Security footage showed that a housekeeper caught the bin as it was being pushed by the wind at the opposite side of the lot. He then placed it against a wall near my car firmly (he shoved it in place and my car's by the entrance). Regardless, it was a windy day and the wind pushed it from that spot and into my vehicle.

Do you think it is reasonable for the job to reimburse me for damages especially considering management is now considering ropes or chains to hold the bins in place -- something that should have been done in the first place. I'm also very concerned for the housekeeper, I don't want him getting in trouble considering he did try to secure the bin but I won't brush under the rug considering the cost of fixing my car.

    What do you think?

NOTE: On the insurance side, they said that this is a no-fault incident and that I'd just pay the deductible. But my deductible is a $1000. Even at $500, it's still unfair that I'd have to shell out that sort of money. Additionally, insurance said they themselves don't have grounds to seek reimbursement.

    Health insurance question.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 12:07 AM PST

I have Humana insurance in Louisiana through my work.

I want to get bariatric surgery. My doctor (who has put me on several supervised diets, medications, etc) has suggested it would be best for me as I have PCOS, insulin resistance, and hormonal issues.

My insurance plan has bariatric surgery as "things we generally do not cover".

The phrasing of that has me confused. For humana as a whole, I know they have a list of requirements and I meet those. So.

Is there a possibility they would approve me? How can I find out if they would? She I get my doctor to put in a request/write a letter?

    Thanks.

Pediatrician wants extra for a routine visit

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:21 PM PST

My daughter had a routine yearly pediatrics visit last month. At the office we've had a conversation (standard questions/concerns) and my daughter got a visual examination, no sophisticated equipment involved.

We have just received a bill with a charge labeled "evoked otoacoustic emissions". Called the provider because I was sure it was a mistake and they are insisting that this is a legitimate charge that our insurance is not covering.

Can my insurance carrier pressure the provider to remove the charge? Are they obligated to? What are my options (aside from switching the doctor)?

Water pipe froze and burst flooding the apartment below me

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:42 PM PST

I left for vacation this winter break and accidentally left a widow open and the heating system unrunning in my apartment. I had no idea that I must keep the apartment warm to avoid frozen pipes (I have been living in a warm place my entire life where I don't need heating). A water pipe froze and burst causing the apartment below me to flood, landlord said the water was about 6 inches deep. He told fixed the leak and cleaned the carpets of my apartment and dried them while I'm gone. He also did the same thing for the apartment below me (they were also away during the winter break).

I have a renter's insurance with a liability coverage of $100,000 and a deductible of $500. My landlord told me to file a claim and tell the insurance company to contact him and don't worry about it (he said that's why there's insurance").

I'm currently extremely worried that the insurance company will not pay for the damages repaired by the landlord or for what my neighbor lost. Will they cover them even though it looks like that's %100 my fault?

List of Insurance Agencies and their Target Demographics

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:41 PM PST

I don't know if this has been asked before or is even possible to retrieve. I have tried searching the subreddit for info but didn't find anything relevant, and I searched Google, but I only got results from the insurance providers' perspective. To the point, I am wondering if anyone has a list of car insurance providers and their current target demographics? Even if you don't have a comprehensive list, one or two items would be fine.

    Lapsed on Cobra Payment

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:47 PM PST

I had a few old letters from Starbucks lying around this past November that I didn't check. I'm so irritated and upset at myself for not checking them earlier. Apparently it was a piece of mail that stated my payments for the next period were due and I had not opened it due to being busy with school and not thinking anything of it. I received the letter in August and did not try to pay until late December so of course by that time the grace period had ended. I'm on HMSA's Gold plan, which was a PPO, and I was thoroughly happy with it.

I called mysbux benefits center to see what was going on but at this point they said that all I can do is try to apply for insurance through the "Health Marketplace" and see if I was eligible for Medicaid. I then called my insurance company directly to see if I could shop around for a new plan. At which they said it was too late and that I would basically have to wait a year to shop around for another plan through them. I just wanted to know what would be my best course of action at this point. I was seeing my PCP pretty regularly to find out the source of some neck pain I've been having.

I'm a young adult so all of this is new to me. I don't really know what to do next. Is there any way for me to appeal the late payment? Im not a big fan of medicaid because I know its not accepted with a lot of Physicians. At this time of year is it just too late? Please explain! Thank you!

    Help me please

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:27 PM PST

Hello, I recently got in to an accident on the 19th. But according to Geico, I didn't have coverage since the 12th. But the thing is I made a payment and I wasn't aware that the payment didn't go through till the 20th. Now the thing is I did make another payment on the 19th before the accident happened, for the next month but I wasn't aware that the first payment didn't go through. They got the notification from the bank the 20th according to Geico. So what can I do now? I can't afford to pay for the car or pay for the other person damages! I didn't know about the coverage because I never got a notification regarding it. What can I do? I am so f**ked! Like I wanna die right about now! Please help me!

No, I'm sorry that's not how insurance works

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:07 PM PST

Let's get a thread going for stuff we have to say to people on a daily basis.

'No you losing control on ice and hitting something is not a comp claim cus there was ice envolved'

'No, the police dont decide liability in an accident, although there reports are nice to have'

'No I can't put you in a rental, I haven't talked with my insured' yet.'

'No I as the at fault parties insurance am not going to pay you more then my insured had limits.'

Is it normal for my auto insurance to automatically open a claim for me?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:38 PM PST

I hit a parked car, and gave the person my insurance info. I logged in to my insurance website later and saw that they'd opened a claim for me. They've asked me to set up an appointment to take my car to a garage for damage estimates. My car is fine, I don't want to take it to a garage. And I don't want to pay my deductible unless I have to.

Is it normal for a claim to be opened for me in this case, and will it result in paying a deductible that I otherwise wouldn't have to pay?

Towed out of the snow, how do I tell whether I'm covered and how to get reimbursed if I am?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:52 PM PST

I got stuck in the snow a few days ago, and highway patrol stopped by and called a wrecker to pull the car out. They gave me a bill for $175 and told me to take it to my insurance. There was no major damage to the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved. I looked over my insurance policy, and I have no idea whether this is covered or not; I've never had to file a claim for anything before, and I've only had this car for a year. How can I tell whether I am covered, and how should I get reimbursed if I am covered?

(I wasn't the driver at the time, but I was in the vehicle and gave the driver permission to use my car, so I'm assuming that won't make a difference.)

Edit: It looks like I didn't choose to have this coverage. I checked the price to start it, and it looks like it probably isn't worth it for me, so I'll just expect to pay for things like this out of pocket. Thank you for your help, this was informative.

    Home insurance claims process

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:40 AM PST

Had some accidental damage in our house a month ago. Adjuster says we are getting a check for $5k for damage to floors and base boards. Which is way below our contractors estimate. Check and a letter better explaining the process is in the mail.

Adjuster tried to explain the process but it just confused me. They said to wait a week or two for the letter which details it. Urgh. From what I gathered from the conversation we have to send pictures and receipts invoices after the work is done, they'll then look at what went toward repairs.... do we then have to pay back the difference?

We were also thinking about putting laminate in instead of carpet and I've already done some of the smaller jobs myself because it's been a month and the house has been chaos waiting for the claim to be processed. From what the field adjuster had said I was just expecting a check minus our deductible to do with as we saw fit....

At fault car accident, insurance does not cover damages, what happens?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:48 PM PST

So I was driving in the right lane and then switched to the left lane unknowingly as I thought the left lane was still the right lane. So the other car was moving over because that was their correct lane and they hit the side of my car. It left a buff on my driver door and it left a car paint scrape on her passenger door that was about maybe 6 inches long. She got a picture of my insurance and she got my number. Now i am not the main person on the insurance but my mom and dad are. When the other person calls their insurance company what will happen? What does she do with my insurance? Does the insurance company call my parents? I just got added to the insurance a week ago as I just got my license and I have never been in this situation before.

    Insurance claims against government

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 04:27 PM PST

I've shoved this in "Claims related" because I'm not sure if it fits into the other categories, as really, it fits into nearly every category.

After all these fires in Australia are over, what grounds might insurance companies have to claim against the state governments for all the losses?

If one thing is abundantly clear, there has been a clear lack of prior preparation and planning, a severe lack of resources and a whole lack of foresight from the state governments.

At this stage a lot of the planning has had to fall back on severe preservation of life by the fire agencies in evacuation of people to central defensible locations.

So what fallback would the insurance companies have against the government for the severe lack of planning and prevention that has occurred?

It's become very clear that there has been a decade(s) long process of underfunding and underpreparation to prevent this kind of catastrophe with budget cuts to both preventative operations and to equipment purchases and allocation to fire agencies.

What are the risks of insurance companies going belly up with the tens of billions and even possibly hundreds of billions of losses? Like, I know that this is beyond practically everyone's worst case scenarios, so it's been rumoured there's even the potential that companies may not be able to remain above water if they pay out all the claims. What is the fallback then for the people that have legitimate aims for coverage against an insolvent insurance company?

Lease Car Total Loss Due To Flood.. What now?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 12:36 PM PST

My lease car was totaled due to flood.. anybody knows how long the process takes until I get the final confirmation that everything pays off. The financial institution that I pay the monthly payment to said I had GAP on my lease because all leases have gap. But how long until the Gap settles and I can get a green light so I can lease another car. I don't want to get into another lease until I receive paper work that everything's paid by my insurance and gap.

Please I'm dying for an answer.

    Thank you.

MI car insurance: GM parts not arriving for accident repair

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:24 AM PST

What are my rights when my car is held in limbo? A car hit us but we are in MI, a no fault state. Took it for a repair at a direct repair shop with progressive.

Now we are told they can't get parts from GM due to not being caught up from their two month strike. So my car is just unavailable to us and just sitting in their lot, undriveable.

Do I have any rights? We don't have car rental coverage because we thought we would just pay out of pocket for a rental if anything happened. We never expected three weeks and now they are saying it could be months.

    What do I do?

Any tips for personal property inventory after a house fire?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:55 AM PST

My current plan of action is adapting the worksheet given to us by the adjuster to a spreadsheet. Then I plan to label each item with an item number, photographing each item, providing a very detailed item description, and determining a cost value with receipts or an estimated value. Anything I might be forgetting or overlooking?

Thanks for any tips. I've never experienced this.
