Against all odds... I landed an interview Posted: 09 Jan 2020 04:24 PM PST Hey everyone! Thanks for being so helpful the past few weeks. I followed up with the PwC recruiter. Little back story: I'm a first gen, non-traditional student entering my second semester junior year. I missed recruiting because I am financially independent and couldn't afford to miss work. After really putting myself out there I got in contact with a recruiter on the 18th, followed up today and got a virtual interview! Does anyone have overall tips or tips? I didn't go through the college recruiting process, didn't have an on-campus interview and also haven't had a "first" interview. This will be my first. What can I do to truly make myself stand out? Any tips and good overall advice is much appreciated! Edit: I'm applying for a tax summer internship. [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Jan 2020 08:15 PM PST I didn't fit in at Deloitte and was also not very technical. I started my industry job after a year in Big 4 and already I've messed up. My boss and I both left the office at 10pm. I was tired and followed him out. I didn't even realize that we were in the same revolving door until it wouldn't move and I ran smack dab into him. Then I realized that my purse was stuck between the inside of the building and the revolving door. I had trouble pushing my purse out of the revolving door so that the door would keep moving. It took one minute and then the door was able to move. I went back in the building to get my purse which was on the ground. My boss was very amused. He was laughing. I feel so silly! I invaded his personal space. Do you think this makes him question my competency? He's a pretty important guy. He's about three levels above me. TLDR; I followed my boss into a revolving door and got stuck in there with him. Do you think this silliness will make him question my competency? I didn't expect this industry job to be this crazy.. Posted: 09 Jan 2020 01:01 PM PST I failed both day 1 and other days in level 2 (FR/MA depth, I thought I did okay in MA, def did not expect to get depth in FR with my handbook not working). Day 1 I combined two issues in 1 and I am guessing since in did 2 in 1, I did not have enough tie backs. I took 2.5 weeks off to study and was extremely sick for a few months. I also had a lot of computer issues. I just feel like leaving accounting. I passed all the PEP courses in one shot and graduated undergrad with honors. I can't go through the test process again, and worrying again about the tech issues. I have lost all motivation. I haven't told my manager yet. But I work in the industry and my manager is very nice. It also feels ridiculous because everyone who wrote with me passed. [link] [comments]
What if ... (busy season related question) Posted: 09 Jan 2020 09:22 PM PST Honestly, what would happen if I left the office before everyone else. I do not want to be working at a goddamn office past 9pm on a weekday, and weekdays I'd say I'd put a cap on 5pm if I needed to come in. I just started as a staff in big4 tax. What would happen if I were to just let my seniors and managers know straight up, "Ight imma head out" at these times. Don't they have social lives, relationships with S/Os and friends, responsibilities like children or pets to worry about? Or is making the partner money really THAT important to them. It simply isn't to me. Why is it accepted to stay this late? [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Jan 2020 02:44 PM PST I'm finding I like managerial accounting a lot better than financial accounting (I don't hate financial accounting, I completely understand the content, and I wouldn't be unhappy doing it). Managerial accounting is just more interesting to me. My school pushes financial accounting hard and I feel like I haven't even been talked to about a managerial career path. Is anyone in this group a CMA over a CPA? [link] [comments]

Writing off a tattoo as "research" for a tattoo artist and shop owner [Canada] Posted: 09 Jan 2020 04:45 PM PST First off, I'm not an accountant. I'm probably posting this in the wrong subreddit, too, so please correct me if I have. I do some bookkeeping (mainly quarterly tax returns) for the owner of a small tattoo shop. She recently went to USA for piercing training and while there got a tattoo. She saved the receipt and wants to write it off as a business expense and call it "research". I know this isn't right, but I can't find any info online to show her that it isn't. It wasn't an expense to better the business, and it was for personal use. Can someone point me in the right direction? [link] [comments] |
