    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 12:50 PM PST

I was in the right left turn lane, and the other car was next to me in the far left turn lane (there are 2 left turn lanes). The arrow turned green and both cars made a left turn from the respective turn lanes. I turned into the right lane, she was about 1/2 a car length in front of me at the start of the road we turned onto. Instead of turning into the left lane, she turned into the far right lane (my lane) so that the back right side of her car hit the front left bumper of my car. She was never driving completely driving in the left lane as she should, and continued to drive in the far right lane before pulling into the parking lot where we called the police.

Long story short, the police arrive at the scene we each give our statements. Then she recaps her statement next to me saying that I hit her with my car. The police sit in their car for about 45 minutes and then come out and give us a driver exchange sheet and tell me "You have conflicting stories and we aren't here to call either of you guys liars, so your insurance can fight it out". By the time we drove the 15 minutes home she had summited a claim through our insurance for her damage. I called her insurance and summited a claim and then gave my recorded statement to my insurance company.

Are there any other steps I should take? How likely is it that my insurance will have to pay for her damage?

    (UK) Multi-Car Insurance Policies

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:41 AM PST

I currently have a multi car policy for two cars, and it's renewal time.

I've been with the same company for the past two years (Axa) but last year the price hiked and renewed automatically as I wasn't paying attention.

I'm wondering if anyone knows other competitive companies that offer Multicar policies?

Is there any comparison site where I can search for multi car? All I've found is single car searches.

Is there a way I can find out which postcode is gonna be more expensive? I have multiple addresses.

Asking these as I'm trying to limit how many soft searches hit my credit report. Or am I better off ringing the top 3 multi car insurance companies you guys mention?

The other party's insurance instructor says they have never made a left turn in their life.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 07:55 PM PST

My dad was in an accident when he was making a left turn and basically when he called the other party's auto adjuster, they said no matter what we did it is still our liability because we made the left turn (even though the opposing car stopped, then tried to cross a redlight and subsequently hit us).

When my dad asked how he (the adjustor) would do in this situation, the adjustor simply said that he has "never taken a left turn in his life" and that he always uses a GPS to make right turns around a block when he has to turn left somewhere.

I understand if we at liability for the crash entirely, but I'm curious, is there anyone that actually never makes left turns when driving? It seems like BS, at least to me.

Accident in Michigan, and the other side lied on the police report.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 12:57 AM PST

    (Michigan)

So I recently skided and rammed someone in the back while they where on the redlight. When I went down to check on the other driver, she was defensive and all. So I apologized, and called the police. She later came up, and told me she doesn't have a license. 17, driving a permit. So to be honest, I felt bad, and understood they would probably take her to prison until someone can claim her. So I called the police order off.

Later, Some tow drivers come to 'talk' and said we should pull the car over to the corner. Recognizing the scam, I politely refused. And when they tried convincing the girl, I basically told them to piss off, it not right.

Afterwards, the father and brother come. To be honest, her car was totaled from the back. And Buick's are expensive to fix. I was simply Door-dashing from my camry. They asked if I can fix it, I told them I am door dashing, I can't fix anything. They asked ok, we'll let you go, but lets exchange ID's, and other paperwork. Recognizing the ordeal, I laid it down, either we both walk away, or we call the cops. So we called the cops, they asked if anyone needed rescue. I told them no, we are all good.

The cops came, and took statements. And here is where the show began. Shortly before, the father told her get back in the car. And the brother on the passenger(The brother is the owner of the car). And shortly after, the ambulance.

One cop was going back to his car, with a state ID in his hand, that's when I got skeptical. So I talked to the cop, and wanted to affirm there is no fishy business. He said "of course, you skided, rammed in to her and her brother.." I stopped him, and told him "No, she was alone" He asked are you sure, I confirmed.

He went down, and asked them again with another officer. And they obviously began to worry, and multiple people where explaining yada yada yada.

The cop came back, and asked should I be worried? He replied "I've seen cases like this before. However no hard evidence, I have to write down, it is a he said, she said scenario"

I understand I am the one at fault, and I understand I should have continued the report from the first phone call. But right now, should I be concerned? Should I begin to gather evidence? Should I start contacting local business for video evidence?

    Thank You

Question about speeding ticket and insurance.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 11:40 PM PST

Newish driver here and got a ticket for speeding 70km in a 60km. I've been driving for a year and this was my first ticket honestly was surprised I got pulled over. She said it won't effect my insurance but I honestly don't believe her considering she pulled me over for 10 over.

I'd love to fight it but my parents are hella strict and will kill me if they find out.

So how much will this effect my insurance?

Leak in condo with upstairs owner's at fault but no insurance

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 10:17 PM PST

I own a condo and there was a leak in the crawl space coming from our neighbors above us. It turned out that it was their water heater which they have since replaced but the leak went on for nearly a year and caused massive damage that was unknown to us until a mold remediation person came to assess the damage and tore down a wall. Mold scares the crap out of me for obvious reasons but also because we have a baby; it pains me to think about her inhaling that. However, we didn't have home owners insurance at the time the leak began because we were hurting financially preparing for a baby and unfortunately, our home owners insurance was one of the things we had to drop to continue to afford living. I'm horribly ashamed and embaressed about it but I have no choice now but to learn and move on. Thankfully though, the upstairs neighbors ARE insured but I've been told by many people that my insurance has to sue their insurance and then come in and fix the damage. I'm not sure if that's particular to the state I'm in (FL) or if it's just how it works. So, being that we we're uninsured and cannot afford a lawyer to fight this for us, we are totally lost as to what to do. Fortunately, our upstairs neighbors seem to be very kind people and even offered to fix things themselves, as the husband is a handyman. We haven't told them that we're uninsured or the entire situation yet. We wanted to let everyone get through the holidays stress free. Should we be totally honest with them and take them up on the offer? The only other option I can think of is to sell my condo as is and cut my losses. I really don't want to do that but I need to have a safe environment for my baby to live in. Something else that I've been wondering about is... I'm pretty sure that as a condo owner, I'm not responsible for anything beyond the drywall. So seeing as the damage is all beyond the drywall, could it possibly be the responsibility of the HOA? TIA

Need insurance for a new startup in the tech/video game field

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 09:36 PM PST

I've spent a good 10+ hours looking at different companies, talking to agents, and researching what we need. Everybody seems to offer relatively the same thing, but I don't know who to sign with. Beyond price, what should be determining who we sign with? What should we be avoiding and what should we be looking for? For example, is signing with somebody like Hiscox a good idea, or should we go with a local brokerage? Should we go with an individual agent or a large company? I have no idea what we should be looking at beyond offerings and price.

We're a tech company in Cali, <10 employees.

    Dealer's body shop or independent?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 09:23 PM PST

I got into an accident that I didn't think was my fault but the other driver said it was and the case is still pending. There is about $2000 worth of damage to my car that is mostly cosmetic. My car is perfectly drivable but I have a lease so I need to get it fixed before I turn it in.

Is there any reason to go to a neighborhood body shop rather than the dealer? The repair will cost more than my deductible either way.

Can an independent save me any money if I don't happen to get my deductible back ever?

Windowshopping for best prices for GI Upper Endsocopy, is it impossible to find an actual quote?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:30 PM PST

Trying to get an estimate and possible procedures that will be done by a provider before an office visit. I have a high deductible $2K and only 40% coinsurance for outpatient surgery.

How do people navigate and window shop for the cheapest GI upper endoscopy?

The problem is I can only do it in person and not over the phone, and being in their office takes weeks to schedule an appointment.

I was hoping to hear something along these lines:

    1. diagnosing a stomach condition would require procedures P1, P2, ... PN and as per your insurance, cost you $XP1, $XP2, ... $XPN

Is this information impossible to request?

I have called my insurance company and they always advice the transaction is between me and the doctor's/provider's office and they just handle payment, so they are unable to help me.

The doctor's/provider's office says that they will have to send the claims to my insurance company before they can give me an accurate estimate.

I am caught in this loop with each company asking me to work with the other, and no one offering to give me prices.

And that doesn't even cover additional services. The endoscopy itself is

    • GI upper endoscopy $2.5k
    • but it doesn't cover facility fees, physician, fees, anessthetics, and possible biopsies.

Thankfully I found http://colonoscopyassist.com/ which packages everything together in a contracted deal. But how else do people navigate and window shop for the cheapest GI upper endoscopy?

Switching car insurance before fixing car

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:08 PM PST

    Hey guys!

I am looking at switching car insurance companies from progressive to geico. My insurance expires at the end of the month. The problem is that I have a claim with progressive that they haven't paid me yet on(gave me check, but since i was waiting it wasn't used). It was about 7 months ago for hail damage. I am still wanting to get it fixed, but I am worried that if I switch Progressive will no longer pay.

I was told that it was covered and that they would pay for it. I am also wondering how long you have in Texas to get a car fixed with your insurance paying(I saw 2 years, but that may be wrong)

    Thanks

Dollar amount for a medical bill to not affect your credit?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 08:38 PM PST

I have a 1,300 medical bill after insurance, from the ER. I read somewhere that a bill <$800 (or something like that) will not affect your credit. (The bill is not in collections yet as far as I know, but will be soon. It was $3k before insurance.)

I technically owe $40 in West Virginia too, but my credit does not show it. So I know this is somewhat true

    So my questions are:

What is the maximum dollar amount for a medical debt to NOT show up on my credit?

Can I pay on my bill until the owed balance reaches this amount, then say f*** it and never pay on it again?

Question about auto insurance claim ?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:12 PM PST

So somebody hit my dads car. There is no big damage except some scratches and little hole because it was at parking lot . It is a new car so he exchange the license and registration info and filed claim. Now when he called to check the status they said they are still trying to reach out to the other party but the the person is not responding meaning he is not picking up the call . It's been over 3 weeks and yesterday my dad called the other insurance party and they said the person is still not picking up calls and asked my dad if have any proof such as pic or video that shows their client hit my dads car which he don't. Any idea what to do in this situations? Will the claim go waste if the other insurance owner doesn't respond or give statement ? I remember something similar happened before when my friends claim went waste since the other guy didn't respond and there was no proof or police record that the other guy hit his car any one ?

Does car insurance cover driver if holder is in passenger seat?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 10:04 AM PST

I'm wondering because in my state, teen drivers have a permit and then after 6 months are allowed to drive with no adult and after 6 months receive their license. How would insurance cover the period when they can't have insurance as a permit holder and there is no adult in the car? Is there a policy most companies have where if a passenger has insurance then the driver is covered? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Sign release form for car accident?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 09:05 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I have a quick question about release forms/payouts. I was recently in an accident- not at fault. The other party's insurance (which is one of the big national ones) has accepted 100% liability for the accident.

For the accident I was rear ended. I didn't go to the hospital at the scene. But the next day i was having some back and neck pain and went to an urgent care and got some xrays taken. Everything checked out okay - just soft tissue injuries. So far I am feeling better and truly don't believe this will be a long term injury/issue.

So the other party's insurance wants me to sign a release form (which I understand is for - no suing for further treatment and money). Which is fine because I don't think I will need more. But in the release it states that they have set aside an amount of x for the medical bills I incurred. The problem is I haven't yet received any bills. I had used my own health insurance for the copay at the time. The agent told me that as my reason for visit was car accident I will get a bill for that visit/xrays in a few months time. As my health insurance will reject it. At the time I receive the bills I am just supposed to send them to the car insurance and they will pay them at that time.

So my concern is what happens if I sign this release now, but in a couple months the bills I received are over that x amount in the release form?

The insurance agent said at that tome to contact them and they can just modify the release to the updated value of that bill.

But can they refuse to do that? If I signed a release form it seems as if they could just say tough luck and I'm on the hook to pay the remainder.

Please help! Just looking for guidance. Not looking for a payday - just don't want to be on the hook for that bill

We called our insurance company about a burst pipe, but didn't file a claim. What happens now?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:05 AM PST

    Hi Reddit,

We would like to ask for your thoughts on a recent burst pipe and a call to our home insurance company, Travelers.

We live in a rural town in Colorado in a house we bought 4 or 5 years ago. Since then, we have finished (for the most part) the basement, which was unfinished when we bought it. Today a pipe leaked into one of the finished basement rooms. Specifically, an outside faucet burst, cracking a metal pipe between the outside siding and the inside drywall, spraying water down the gap.

We caught it pretty quickly and shut off the house's main water supply. It leaked under the baseboards and into a small area of the carpets. In retrospect there really wasn't any damage at all and our local plumber sorted it all out, but... at the time it seemed like the drywall was ruined (it isn't) and the carpet was ruined (it isn't), so we called the insurance company thinking it was going to be an expensive repair.

I told them there'd been a leak and that we'd shut off the water. During the call with the claim department agent we noticed that our policy said "Finished basements: 0" in covered assets, so we were told to call back on Monday (this happened on Saturday) to discuss our coverage before filing a claim. We hadn't updated the policy since finishing the basement a few months ago, so we realized a little too late that we weren't covered. We thanked the agent for his help and ended the call.

At that point we still thought we were up shit creek, because we couldn't turn the house water on without risking flooding the basement. So we called our local plumber, who came round in 30 minutes (fucking legend) and replaced the busted pipe with a proper frost-resistant BIB and connections. The carpet is nearly dry and everything looks fine, thankfully.

    So!

    • We called Travelers to say "we have a burst pipe", although we didn't actually file a claim. How does this affect our insurance premiums from now on?
    • Will our call be registered in the C.L.U.E. database?
    • Will it affect the cost of home insurance from a non-Travelers company in future?
    • What else might come of calling the insurance company?

Moreover, we've been wondering how to proceed. Do we contact Travelers again to say all's well and it was an easy fix with no damage whatsoever? Or never talk to them about it again? Will they call us about it, and if so, how do we respond in our best interests?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

My Dad Wants Me to Lie About a Car Crash

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:59 PM PST

I was in a car accident recently with someone for really stupid reasons, so stupid that I've changed the way I drive. We're both young (early twenties).

So the guy lied about what happened because we both would've been completely screwed if he didn't, but the story he made up kind of makes it sound like more of my fault than his. I told my dad about it and his first instinct was to tell me to lie and say it was the other guy's fault.

I feel so guilty doing this, but I'm on my dad's insurance and it's going to raise his rates up so high if the insurance finds it was my fault, even though it wasn't completely, or even if it's shared blame I think. I've told my dad that I don't want to lie in a way that will make it be the other guy's fault because I also drove like an idiot. I feel even more guilty because he's a young guy like me so how is it fair for me to fuck up his insurance or to possibly get him in trouble for making a false claim? I'm pretty sure the pictures I took could prove that he lied, but I really don't want to do it.

I really don't want to lie in my own favor, but I don't know how to convince my dad. He's really pissed off anytime I say I want to go along with the other guy's story, and him and my step mom keep saying no matter what happened it was his fault because he hit me from behind, which I think is bullshit rationalization so they can keep good insurance rates. It just makes me mad because what if someone tried doing this to me if it was the other way around? He would be infuriated and think the guy was a scumbag, yet he's forcing me to be like that (and possibly face legal consequences if this backfires).

So how should I got about this? Lie for my dad to keep his insurance rates fine and possibly ruin this kid's life? Or go with the kid's story and hurt my dad's insurance for years?

Edit: Thank you for the advice. As I mentioned in a comment below, the actual cause of the accident was reckless driving by both of us. I am pretty sure a driving reckless accident would leave us both uninsured, which is why he lied and another reason why I am considering it

Edit: Sorry for all the edits, but I'm thinking a lot about this. If I told the whole truth about the reckless driving, would removing myself from my dad's policy spare his insurance rates since I won't even be making a claim? I don't care about the damage and it's not extensive by any means
