Kinda hit the lotto today - ULTA Posted: 06 Dec 2019 07:39 AM PST Well, I'm now entering my 15th month of equity trading/investing. I have my fair share of successes and failures, but I can now finally say I hit a big one. After the 8/30 earnings on ULTA and doing some DD on their numbers, I've had the itch to go long but it never got low enough to hit my order. Well, I finally took the plunge yesterday and bought 60 calls at 235 strike (Dec 20, 2019). Suffice it to say, the earnings call went well. Up a little over $47k after unloading most of my position. Keeping onto 2 calls because, who knows, maybe this will head up towards $320 to close the gap. This is a big day for me. Just wanted to share a little bit of my happiness with this community. Edit: To the newbs messaging me and reading this post, please do not take this as encouragement to take an options trade into earnings without doing your DD and fully understanding the risks. When i try to close the position it says my max profit is 35 and max loss is infinite. Am i missing something here? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Dec 2019 11:54 AM PST There is conventional wisdom out there that people sell in December to do end of year accounting, rebalancing, locking in of capital losses etc. So the expectation is that if you can time this little bit of human psychology. However, I looked at the returns by month and that's a total sham. You can see the numbers here: http://www.moneychimp.com/features/monthly_returns.htm Indeed, December is one of the best months (though probably not in a reliable way to be able to time the market because of noise). I feel a tiny bit stupid for going +5% into cash (I missed out on 1% already this month) but lesson learned -- conventional wisdom is only conventional, but generally not wisdom. Posted: 06 Dec 2019 11:20 AM PST Hi everyone, I'm curious in what everyone is looking at or has in their portfolio in terms of micro or small capitalization (<2Billion) US stocks. And why you're interested in it. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Dec 2019 10:56 AM PST When I see companies like Apple soar to 270, along with the major runs of MSFT, VISA, and others, I can't help but question how much more growth is possible. Can apple really go above 300 in 2020 and should it even..it just seems so inflated. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Dec 2019 08:31 AM PST So I sold of my margin position and it sold my 6 months holding in Tesla instead of my 5 day swing trade. Changing my cost basis from 261 to 320. They say they can't fix this. Other than taxes does this matter as the number of shares has remained the same. [link] [comments]
Question about spy price action Posted: 06 Dec 2019 08:27 AM PST Is the price movement on the spy or any etf for that matter influenced at all by order flow on the fund (market orders taking down the bid/offer) or is it purely influenced by the index it represents? [link] [comments]
