Legality of using research paper in AI startup Posted: 29 Dec 2019 01:12 PM PST I wanna ask something. I am wondering about legal issue or copyright issue regarding AI startup. We know already that the progress of deep learning model is mostly coming from academics, and I am pretty sure a lot of developers out there who are working for typical AI startup would refer into those papers to solve their problem. But then, we also understand that attribution of the authors for that paper also important. Usually when those typical AI startup ship their product, I am also sure that there exists some chunks of model that is referenced from research paper. What is the legality behind this? I didnt see those AI startup giving attribution at all. Personally, I am coming from academic, and we uphold academic integrity when we use other people's paper in our research by reference them, so I am wondering how does it work in startup landscape. Posted: 29 Dec 2019 06:09 AM PST My new business plan is in the design thinking/prototyping phase and it has great potential and promise with every person I present it to. I'll give you an example of what I'm aiming for. I'll use veterans as an example of my target audience. I need to first know all of the stores in the province who offer veterans discounts. currently there is no collective database for this and it is rarely advertised so how can I go about inquiring without calling every store individually? then, I need a way of sending my proposal letter to the stores who do not currently offer discounts and try to sell them on the prospect of offering the discount. (this is where my business model comes in). so basically I need to communicate to many businesses and corporate offices but dont know where to even start. I like to do thing efficiently without wasting my time, so calling one by one hundred, if not thousands of places seems inefficient to me. [link] [comments] |
Can Anyone Invest in a Startup? Posted: 29 Dec 2019 05:24 PM PST I'm starting up my first job out of school soon at a Unicorn Startup and they work in the same building as many earlier stage small strartups. How likely would it be if I made a contact with a founder, that'd I'd possibly be able to invest a little money in one of the small companies. If I only have $1,000 to invest, could I be able to work something out where I get a small percent of equity? [link] [comments] |
Overcoming mental blocks for orchestrating??? Posted: 29 Dec 2019 07:26 PM PST Hi there, This post is seeking advice from those who have orchestrated lots of parts together before :) In short, sometimes I get the feeling that I've done some units of work already, and that I'm just forgetting that I have. I literally had the tech capability to do all of this stuff in 2016, albeit I guess now my tech stack is "latest and greatest". Another notion is that literally everything is just around the corner from being amazing because I've put so much time into so much content that just needs to "be brought together". It's when I have these simple memories of, "oh yeah, this part should go here" that amazing stuff happens. It's definitely not the same mindset one builds out a part with, and maybe I'm just not practiced at it? On the other side, my brain gets distracted with other more "exciting" ways to advance. I think about two hiring positions I could in theory do, but I know this is putting the cart before the horse from experience -- I still can't help but feel like I'm purposefully staying out in the desert longer than needed though. I fight these notions that it's actually exciting and amazing what work I have to do "right now". Still, I'm also stuffing myself into the box that until I make progress, everything is on hold. My current job is not guaranteed, so even my livelihood feels temperamental. Every bright idea I have is contingent on me moving forward in some baseline regards. I aim to run a software business, so I need the ability to deploy fresh web content and because I already have a dumb WordPress dot com, it's really insufficient to half-ass anything. I've gotten meetings with the guys who have millions in budget, so really why would I waste my time "simulating" success any more. Next meeting I have with the million-dollar budget executive, I should be a few weeks out from getting them a demo that shows how easily I can match their demand at-scale to secure a satisfying deal with. I shouldn't be, "kind of" a few weeks out which is really more like a few months. This is why I went back and hit the drawing board in the first place. Outside business, my well-being is likewise on hold. Socially, why go out except for baseline socialization needs? Why keep up with people? I feel too old for this stuff, but then I'm whiplashed with the notion that this is my life and it's not a game. I'm just frustrated with myself that I've had this whole weekend to get stuff done and I'm just not able to make baseline progress. Ugh. Just feeling lost. I hate wasting time questioning that the next step gets me closer to my success, it's inefficient!!! Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Dec 2019 08:56 AM PST Hi everyone, I hope you are having a nice holiday season We are working on our MVP at the moment, we will launch an app for services targeting specifically Los Angeles for starters. Our app will have to types of users: buyers and sellers At the moment we are planning our near future next steps and got stuck and not sure how to launch. Our plans are something like that:
We are a little more leaning towards the: get some sellers first and then launch the platform for buyers later. But maybe there are other ways of doing it. Our capital is limited so anything not capital-intensive, but labor-intensive might be best for us I was wondering if any of you already had real life experience regarding this issue? + if you were able to successfully build up either one of them? + any advice or online/educational material regarding it would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
1st potential client interested now what Posted: 29 Dec 2019 01:05 PM PST Hey so we are in the development stage of LMS startup servicing African countries. A school l have talked to has shown a lot of interest and would like to implement the LMS once its developed based on the description we gave them. We have UX designs and a software architect on the team, we are in the process of building out the rest of the team. A prototype MVP is going to take at least months with bare bone pages. So my question is, the client would like us to begin the process of getting regional approval to implement the software at the school once development completes, and they have given us the verbal lets get the deal done, l dont know what to do next. I am sorry if this sounds convulted but l am in uncharted territory. A point of note is that they have given us a generalized picture of the school s needs .Thanks for the help [link] [comments] |
