Its a Christmas miracle - I'm back at 5 stars! Posted: 01 Dec 2019 10:25 PM PST Excuse any errors - I'm over the freaking moon right now! This summer, a non-client gave me a bad review on my business Facebook page. It was a craigslist deal gone bad - I sold him a perfectly functional and like-new camera, but he was upset that I wouldn't give him some of my personal camera accessories for free. This dude was scary. Tall, in the army, almost expression-less. He kept asking me to meet back up with him, to which I responded "absolutely not". He continued to harass me for quite some time, and I had to call his command to get it to stop. Well, as a last vengeful act, he gave me a one star review on my Facebook business page. I'm a fairly new business, so it took my rating down to 4.3. He made the review sound like he was a client, so all attempts to get it removed by Facebook failed. I even hired a "guaranteed removal" service who could not get it removed. I submitted documents and evidence from the transaction to Facebook, and got rejected. About a month ago, I just gave up on getting it removed. It seemed fruitless and I just needed to move on. Lo and behold, I was just checking something on my page and the review is gone! I don't know how or why, but it is gone. I am so, so happy. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2019 10:27 AM PST 12/1 10:25PM EDIT: Thank you everyone for all the questions and interest! I didn't think this would be this popular, but I'm happy people want to learn more about the business. I'm heading to bed now, but I'll be back in the morning to continue answering questions so keep them coming. Hey everyone I've been making posts in the r/atmbusiness subreddit, but figured I'd make a post here too about my ATM business I started earlier this year. It has been a long road to get to where I am now with my first ATM installed. I wasted lots of time trying to learn how to make a website myself and do all of these things that weren't necessary to get the first machine in place. I decided to scrap the website for now and focus on getting ATMs in place, by word of mouth and going into businesses. To start I'll explain how ATM businesses work. I buy the machines and install them in businesses and usually the owner of the business is paid a small portion of the surcharge in return. The surcharge is the amount you are charged each time you use the ATM. I fill the machine with cash and set the surcharge to what I think a location can support. I make my money from the surcharge and at the end of every day the money that was taken from the machine is sent to my account along with the additional surcharge. This is done by a processor that makes their money from the interchange, which is the amount your bank charges you for using an out of network ATM. Now that you have an idea of the business I'll tell you about my first location. I recently installed an ATM in a tattoo shop about three weeks ago after having another client cancel on me right as the ATM was being delivered. I say canceled, but what what really happened is he just refused to answer my calls or texts even though we had a signed contract for the ATM to be installed. I scrambled to find a new location as the ATM was sitting in a warehouse and I was going to get charged for every day it sat in there. I found this tattoo shop and was able to move quickly to get it shipped there and installed it myself. There were a few difficulties because the shop owner wanted the ATM about 50 feet from where the router was so I had to run an ethernet cable up the wall and above the ceiling tiles. I got insulation all over me and it was difficult, but I got it hooked up and fully operational. Due to the difficulty of the installation I'm looking into the possibility of wireless cards I can install on the ATM. There are models that can connect through a wireless provider like Verizon, AT&T, etc. but I chose not to do that because it costs money every month and cuts into the profits. Next I had another problem which was the surcharge rate on the ATM. The original location was going to have a $5 surcharge, but for the tattoo shop I needed it to be at $3 to get effective use of it. I changed the surcharge in the settings, but it kept reverting back to $5. I looked it up in the manual and it said I had to have my processor change it. I emailed them and they said they would change it, but it was the end of the day and they forgot. I only got 1 use out of the ATM that week and when I checked my ATM monitoring app it said the surcharge was still at $5. I had to email them again and they finally changed it to $3. Since then I have been getting steady use of it and it is increasing as more customers and repeat customers are aware that it is available. Now that usage is going up I'm having to fill the ATM more often and increase the amount in there. I initially put $2000 in it to test out, but it's going through almost that much in a weekend now. I think I'll put $4000 in it and maintain that weekly. This is more cash than I would ideally like to have in a machine with this low of usage, but tattoo shops naturally have higher withdraw rates than most locations. The ATMs I use cost anywhere from $2250-2400 each so with a minimum acceptable usage of 50 transactions per month at $3 each there is $150 in revenue(the tattoo shop is looking like it will get about 60 uses a month). At this location I paid the maximum amount of surcharge sharing I am willing to do which is $1. I did this due to a personal relationship I have with the shop owner and him working with me on such short notice. Insurance is $10 per month and covers the machine, cash, and cash in transit. This provides me with $90 profit each month. This gives an ROI of 45-48% if the cash tied up in the machine is not included and 17.3% if you include it (using $4000). These are the lower end of the spectrum and a really good location will have over 100 uses a month. Now that I have this connection in the tattoo business I plan to expand to other locations in the area. Each machine doesn't bring in a large amount of money by itself, but it is easily scalable and I would be able to handle about 40 machines, before I would need to hire any help. I just wanted to share my story and try to answer any questions people have about the business. There are many hurdles in starting the business that I haven't included in this, but I'd be willing to go more in depth if people are interested. Posted: 01 Dec 2019 05:43 AM PST The previous manager before leaving gave the most valuable employee a pay raise by 30%. Which makes him the highest paid worker of this profession in the industry. I guess it was a way to stick it to the company. Now I have to do the reversal, and there is a chance we are going to loose him. I am not sure if there is anything else to do other then just tell him and explain the situation and hope he understands? Edit: correction. The raise was almost 50% of his pay., now to roll it back it would take about 30% cut. [link] [comments]
Any new business in need of a free website? Trying to build up my portfolio. Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:47 PM PST You can either provide the domain and hosting or you can let me handle it all myself from scratch (you'll have to reimburse the cost tho). It will help if you provide the logo and whatnot as well but if you don't have one then we can figure something out. Cheers :) [link] [comments]
M.A.B/ Me and boys/Reddit user business Posted: 02 Dec 2019 04:06 AM PST Hello everyone! I'm new on Reddit, but i have an excellent idea and believe that you will like it as much as me. Although I read the rules but i'm not completely sure that my post corresponds to them. Please, if you think this post does not comply with the rules, write me a reason and I will definitely fix it. I apologize in advance for my English, hope you will get point of my post. So, let's start. The idea is to build a business with the reddit community. You asked "How it will work? " (or just say that i'm dumb and continue scrolling). For everyone who chooses the first option i try to explain. In fact it simple af:
So, as you saw it pretty simple but in same time crude. With your help i hope we will do something sensible. I predict most of quesitons will be about third point. A place on the council is temporary (that is, in order to be in it you need to regularly put forward good ideas). As soon as this business becomes profitable, money will be shared between council members. It is possible that over time the council will be finally approved, but it is still too early to talk about it. I know that this sounds silly and thoughtless, but it's all a matter of time, and now I need smart guys who can give practical advice. Look, you have nothing to lose all i ask is advice and if it will be useful you can even get money for it. Looks good isn't it? You can also ask all about me. Your support and criticism is very important to me. Thanks to everyone who has read up to this point. So it just prototype and first advice that i ask you: Are there any similar examples and what do you think about this idea? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2019 09:47 PM PST I'm thinking to buy a take away food shop or small cafe. When I look at the ads online they usually mention revenue & net profit, for example a small cafe might be for sale for $100,000 then the rent is listed for 2,000per month, revenue ie 10,000 per week so 520,000/year with net profit per year listed at $100,000. I'm wondering how to check if these numbers are accurate? Is it illegal to make any false claims or hide expenses? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Dec 2019 12:26 AM PST My mom has always made a delicious mead and shared it with guests and family members over good food for 20+ years & I have decided at the ripe age of 28 that I would like to make a business out of it. I have the business model idea in my head as-well as the brand and marketing plans. I got the domain and working on the website. I had a few tastings and people have liked it but I want to do it the legal way. I'm in Texas, so I've been visiting the TABC website trying to get the right documentation to move my dream forward. Any help is welcome. Peace & Love [link] [comments]

Starting Something From Nothing Posted: 01 Dec 2019 11:17 PM PST I've been programming as a hobby since I was 14 years old. For reference that's 15 years. It's been mostly in C++ with some college coursework in Java and HTML/CSS and I've never really made any large projects. That said I've always wanted to start my own development company and a chain of events through this year have slowly led me in that direction. The big problem is I have no professional experience in anything even remotely relevant. Due to bad choices I've made I've kind of just coasted from one job to another while just dreaming about a career in IT or development. I'm currently trying to get as much information as possible together before even searching for clients on what I need to know to get a web design and development company aimed at local small businesses and non profits off the ground. Has anyone here done anything similar and have any tips or advice you can share? Anyone maybe in a different area of expertise but similar circumstances? I really appreciate anything you can give me. Posted: 01 Dec 2019 10:15 PM PST Before anyone says, "this belongs in a Marketing sub!" I put this in Small Business because it's more about the recruiting and growth. So, I'm graduating in 2 weeks. I do have 1 year of Marketing experience through a startup. I didn't do anything with employment there, and only elementary market research. Now, I'm interviewing for a bigger business (still family owned/small business). They asked me to audit their social media and tell them what's wrong, develop the start of a strategy to better it so they can get more desirable candidates, and the target is 18-35 year-olds. The next stage is moving from a contracted Marketing firm, to forming an in-house one, and firming up the company culture. I wasn't given any detailed numbers in regards to their CPC, CPM, or any other metrics. Everything I've found is what you can see on their pages. In my report so far, I've included:
What else am I missing? I feel I need more to present as they want to expand and ideas on how to go about that. [link] [comments]

Looking for advice on setting the right pricing model for an online membership site Posted: 01 Dec 2019 09:13 PM PST Hi everyone, I work as a business consultant in a pretty niche industry and have found that my target clients' budget is generally very low for business advice/consulting. So, I've been looking at other ways to increase my baseline revenue and decided to make a membership site. I already have a site with 70 or so members. It was originally created as a free membership site full of resources (e.g. downloadable business templates, tips, advice, webinars, etc). The idea was that it'll attract my target audience and I'll up-sell my consulting services to them. Over the last year I realised that people don't really value free things - so there was low engagement and upselling was almost always unsuccessful. During the past year I have gained some feedback though, and learnt that the content I offer on my site is something my target audience would pay for and that a few of my competitors are doing similar things. So my plan is to add premium/paid levels to my already existing site. I'm stuck on my pricing strategy as I don't have a lot of experience with online businesses. I've played around with so many different pricing and membership models that it's just become way too complex now and I don't even know if any of this makes sense. My idea is that I'll have three levels: free, level 1 & level 2 (they'll be named differently) and members will get different discounts based on their level. LEVEL 2 members will get access to everything for free (i.e. they'll never have to pay for templates or courses). LEVEL 1 members will get a 50% discount to everything (i.e. they'll still be paying for paid items). FREE members will get no discount for paid content but will get access to free content that non-members can't access.
Does this model make sense? And, given the average prices of the products, are the memberships reasonably priced? I've been tossing up different ideas for so long now that I can't even tell if it makes sense or if it's an attractive offering! The other idea was to remove the middle level (Level 1) and just have free & paid options. That way it'll be simpler but I thought maybe it'll seem more pricey as there isn't a middle level to consider. Monthly vs Annual Once I figure out whether or not this is a good membership model, I also need to decide between monthly & annual pricing options. I'd like to offer both but as this is a content site, people can technically sign up for the monthly option, download everything they need to, then cancel. I also considered providing the monthly payment option except with a joining fee (equivalent to 2-3 months' payments). This seems like a good workaround, except for the fact that it might be more difficult to get as many signups. Apologies for the wall of text. I am keen to get it right from the start and avoid having to change fees, etc in the future. I'm getting pretty anxious too as my consulting business hasn't been growing much (I'm at the end of my 2nd year and there hasn't been much growth in the last 12 months) and I'm really hoping that this membership site will be more lucrative. I'm open to your advice and suggestions! Thank you! [link] [comments]
Need advice on if I should form a LLC or a non-profit for a Burning Man Project Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:08 PM PST X-post from r/burningman I made, figured i might get good advicehere too. Hey all, Am in the middle of my first year doing fundraising for my camp for an art car (art car is sort of like a parade float meets an art installation with music). Wanted to get advice on how people manage their accounting/if they had any CPAs theyd recommend working with. I've gotten advice from some to go the nonprofit route, with advantages for being tax-exempt for the donations wed get from things like kickstarter. But have also heard that setting one up takes a long-time and is not a guarantee. I definitely want to setup at least an LLC for the car for insurance/liability purposes but for the fundraising itself I'm worried about receiving donations to the LLC and not handling my accounting correctly/risking penalty fees as well as taxes I'd have to pay on top of the donations. Initial feedback I've gotten is that taxes/fees shouldn't be to much if I went the LLC route and would save me the hassle of non profit formation. Any advice on this would be super helpful, first time setting up my own entity. [link] [comments]
How to hire good managers/employees to reduce workload Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:02 PM PST I own a small resource extraction related business which is getting to be too much work for me to handle. I've hit a point where I need to hire in more people who can handle parts of the business independently. I've had a mixed bag with hiring in the past and feel like I need to improve. The people who have worked out great give me hope but the major failures that have harmed the company and morale make me afraid to screw up again. I don't have any past HR/recruiting experience. Pulling from my past coworkers is tough because of location. Any advice on a process for finding people that are good & independent? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Dec 2019 04:34 PM PST What's the etiquette for giving Christmas bonuses to employees for a business that just opened on 12/1? College Student Needs to Interview Business Owners Posted: 01 Dec 2019 12:46 PM PST Hi. I am a college student who needs help with an Anthropology assignment. I am supposed to interview a business owner in the Rego Park,NY, area and get his/her view on the community and how their business affects the community, how the community affects the business, and how the influx of new stores in the area affects their business. I asked a number of owners and managers if they were willing to be interviewed, and they all said no. Now I'm turning to reddit to see if anyone is willing to help. It doesn't have to be a business specifically in Rego Park. I believe the same thing applies to any business anywhere. I just need some opinions so I can do my paper. Is there anyone out there willing to help? Does anyone mind answering a few questions, and perhaps some followup questions? Thank You, Chris [link] [comments]
