Will being hit by a drunk driver raise my insurance rate? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 02:21 AM PST Texas resident Got a police report was told to give it to my insurance What would happen if he doesn't have insurance? I have full coverage (new car) will it still raise my rates? Of course I'm not at fault The damage was only to the back bumper [link] [comments] |

Moms car stolen. Has full coverage insurance refuses to pay :( Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:59 PM PST Moms vehicle was stolen about 2 weeks ago. She was getting ready for work early morning. Went to warm up car @5am. Turned it on, with keys in (forgot to lock). Police report & insurance claim was done. Insurance agent called my mom today & said they will not cover the stolen vehicle, because it was her fault for leaving the keys in car turned on. My mom has full coverage on the vehicle. What can we do? Get a lawyer? I need opinions & options 😔 [link] [comments] |
Need some statistics I'm having trouble googling for a research project... Posted: 02 Dec 2019 01:50 PM PST Anyone know of a semi-reputable site with statistics akin to the types of Auto Insurance most people hold? For example filling in blanks around: x% of drivers only have their state's minimum required level of liability coverage, x% of drivers carry 300/100/100 coverage etc....the more numbers the merrier. Tried googling it, didn't get anywhere after about 5 pages of results, many thanks :-) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Dec 2019 11:10 PM PST I currently live in arizona with my dad. I'm 18 years of age. I recently got a part time job and I'm trying to save up for my own car and I'm starting college next semester. Its really difficult to save up for a car when you have ignorant, and stubborn parents that are forcing me to do things I don't want to do. I really wanted to go to one community college and my parents practically forced me to go to another that I fucking hate (and they are practically the same distance, the one I wanted to go to being closer to my job). I'm also very into cars so I'm trying to save up for my own rx8 or mazda speed 6 so I can finally have my own car. Here is the catch. Almost all my friend who I've known, who borrowed their dads cars weren't insured on the car itself. Yes, the car had insurance through his dads name but no where was the kids name one there. The dad (or parent) simply gave my friend permission to drive the car and they were fine. I even remember they got pulled over a few times and nothing was wrong that. They simply said "its my dads car im borrowing it". And I have another buddy whose dad IS an insurance agent, and he always "borrows" his dads car. My buddy even tells me he isn't even covered on the insurance but since his dad lets him borrow it its fine. Especially since sometimes he has to drive his moms car instead of his dads and how the hell is he going to afford insurance on both cars? For some odd forsaken reason, my parents want me to pay $200 a month to drive my dads car, which isn't even fucking mine and I hate driving it (its an automatic, and as a enthusiast i like standard trans cars,). He doesn't even let me drive with anyone or let me go anywhere unless its work, for school, the gym, or im getting a snack somewhere. I'm not allowed to pick up my friends and hangout with them in the car or anything. Worst of all once again, I DONT OWN IT, so I can't just drive it whenever I simply want to. Hurts even more when my dad keeps a tracker on me at all times. Its honestly damaging me too (or it will). I'm already about to start paying for school which is $200 a month. If I pay $200 a month on the car, which once again, is a waste of money considering my dad could say I borrowed the car, then I'm basically butt fucking broke after every check considering I only work part time. And I can't work full time because of school. So I'm basically going to work and trying to make whatever money I can just fo pay for school and insurance on a car I don't even own. I can't even save up for my own car or even buy a fucking mcdonald's cheeseburger doing that. My main question is if my father gives me permission to borrow the car, would a legally be able to drive (and yes I have my drivers license). If I crash the car I mean I'm willing to pay my dad however much to fix his car and cover whatever the insurance is saying he owes. Also I know this is personal but if anyone could give me advice on how to convince him to let me drive the car (he has a stick so far up his ass its not even funny, he is very stubborn), that'd be much appreciated. Thanks, any advice/ answers are helpful. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Dec 2019 10:21 PM PST I am 24 years old and someone hit my car backing out of a parking space and I was told by their insurance company my rental car will be fully covered by their insurance. I was recommended to use Enterprise and since I live in a fairly small population area there aren't really many options so I agreed to use them. Enterprise seems to be limiting me to what type of car I can rent due to my age. I drive a 2016 Dodge Charger and feel I should be able to rent a car that is similar to my own. Is there any gray areas here that I can say I should be allowed to drive a car similar to my own or am I getting screwed by enterprise's age limits? [link] [comments] |
First real job with insurance, ppo vs hsa. cant make up mind even after googling Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:55 PM PST A few weeks ago I got my first job out of university which I start next week. I am supposed to pick my insurance on day 1, which will go into effect in January. For the PPO plan it is $75 a month. The deductible is $300, and max out of pocket is $2000. everything is "10% after deductible. So from my understanding is that if I go to a primary care doctor before paying into anything, I will pay 100% of the cost? So with how doctor billing is, I will pretty much hit my $300 deductible after visit #1, and after that, I will just pay 10%? The HSA is the exact same thing. the hdhp is $0 a month and the company will match 1:1 up to $500. Everything is 10% after the deductible. Except, the deductible is $1000 and out of pocket is $4000. I don't know if I am not understanding this, but the deductible and monthly payment seems like the only difference. medicines cost the same for both, too. Dental and eye are wrapped up into that $75 cost a month for the PPO, and the HSA includes dental and eye.. To get the company match I would need to put $40 a month into the HSA, and since that is before taxes it is equivalent to about $50, and the the company will toss in $40. The ppo seems better. It is basically $25 more a month. Under the assumption something bad happened to me, it would save me about $2000 if I went past my max out of pocket? am I understanding this right? any insight is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Does my mother qualify for any type of insurance benefits somewhere? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:23 PM PST 62 year old widow. She's working part-time with her employer of a couple of decades now. She can't work over a certain amount of hours because she's drawing just under $1,200 a month social security from her husband. She's averaging maybe 18-20 hours per week and more on some weeks. Even if she got the max hours allowed to make the $17,600 or whatever it is each year...her hours do no meet the minimum 1,500 hours or so per year required by her employer in order to continue to qualify for her job's health insurance. Most of the employer's staff is part-time and they've cut it down to try to eliminate full-time. She just started getting her husband's social security in January of this year, so she's limited to the $17K a year maxmium that she can make or they'll cut away at her social security payments. I tried looking up independent insurance company...got an average of $300/month! Her employer's insurance is like $30 a week. Is there some kind of assistance out there for this scenario? Does she qualify for any type of insurance that won't cost two legs? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Dec 2019 04:54 PM PST I was recently in a car accident where I was not responsible. A driver hit and ran another car which then collided into me. I exchanged information with the car that got hit into me but he was not insured with the vehicle, only his mother was. He asked me to say that it was his mother that was driving the vehicle, not him. I agreed, and I know I fucked up here. I was just trying to help him out because it wasn't his fault either. When asked for a statement I said it was his mother driving, but I then realized this was insurance fraud and I then told the insurance agent the truth afterwards. They are now going over the original statements and I'm waiting to hear back. How screwed am I? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Dec 2019 08:19 PM PST Hi everyone! Looking to see if maybe I can get some info off this community. My girlfriend just got a promotion with Victoria's Secret, which is owned by LBrands, and she now qualifies for insurance benefits. It includes Anthem, MetLife, and VSP. I qualify as well for being a "domestic partner". Any reference or helpful videos out there that could tell us what would be best for us? [link] [comments] |
Marketplace health insurance policy for married couple Posted: 02 Dec 2019 06:59 PM PST My fiancée and I are getting married this month. We both have individual health insurance policies via the marketplace. When we get married, could we purchase a joint health insurance policy via the marketplace? I'm currently interviewing for jobs because my "employer" has decided to remove me from the official payroll to avoid having to pay workers comp. I posted about that to /r/personalfinance and /r/tax. Hoping to get a new job as soon as possible. Any advice is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
What type of insurance should I have on a car rental? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 02:08 PM PST I'm renting a car for eight days at the end of this week. Honestly, this is he first time in my life I've had to rent a car for personal reasons; all other times have been for business and taken care of in advance by my employer. I have two vehicles--both of which are older and paid for, and I carry only liability insurance on them--so I don't have comprehensive coverage, including car rental insurance. The credit card I'll use to rent the car offers CDW coverage, and will call to confirm what exactly is covered. All I know is the CDW is provided if the duration of the rental is 30 days or less, and I pay for 100% of it with the card. Was wondering what or how much insurance I'll need to purchase at the counter? I'm getting a pretty good rate, and since I don't have primary coverage through my insurance carrier, I feel I should purchase coverage. Don't want to insure the moon, just enough to cover the rental (CDW) and the other vehicle (Supplemental Liability), just in case. Are there any other options, other than through Alamo (who I'll be renting from) that I don't know about? Should I check with AAA or through my auto insurer? I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but while researching, I've not seen anything but vague questions and answers. Thanks, in advance, for any and all input. TL; DR: What type of insurance should I purchase for an eight-day car rental? [link] [comments] |
What to do after hitting a parked car? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 05:42 PM PST Last night, as I was reversing out of a friend's driveway I accidentally reversed into the left doors of a parked car that was parked on the side street. The damage isn't too bad, just dented the door. The owner of the car and I have exchanged details (phone number and driver's license). What am I supposed to do now? Do I file a claim with my insurance or should I wait for him to file a claim and expect to receive a phone call from his insurance? I've contacted my insurance to ask what I can do at this point and described what happened, they told me I can file a claim so I can give the owner a claim number to give his insurance company. I didn't go through with filing a claim just yet. What if the person doesn't contact me back? This is the first time I've gotten in something like this, so I'm not sure how to get the process started. Thank you Edit: my car has no damage [link] [comments] |
I work a 40 hour week in Pennsylvania Posted: 02 Dec 2019 04:43 AM PST Hello! I currently work at a grocery store in PA, I work 40 hours a week, however the company told me I would be considered part time, and would not get any health benefits, I was wondering if this was legal, as it would seem odd for someone that is part time to work 40 hours, same as a full timer? Please help, thank you. [link] [comments] |

Need help understanding pros and cons of filling a claim instead of paying out of pocket (GA) Posted: 02 Dec 2019 03:02 PM PST Recently, my car was hit by my gfs dad while parked in her driveway. He has offered to pay for all damages instead of going through insurance which is fine. But now I am wondering if I am better off filling a claim to ensure a better outcome (fast, quality fix, rental car coverage, etc). Is anyone able to help me understand which option would be better for the long run? Thanks! Details if needed: located in GA, no tickets/accidents prior, 2011 Kia Sorento, full coverage from State Farm $500 deductible [link] [comments] |
United Healthcare Birth Control Coverage Posted: 02 Dec 2019 10:32 AM PST Has anyone else ever had issues with United Healthcare covering their birth control 100%? I'm on the generic form of Yazmin and for the first time in year I went to pickup my medication and they had me pay $25. I called the insurance company and they said they listed my meds as tier 3 at $75 even tho its generic and then costco gave a discount I guess. They said I needed to have my doctor send in an appeal stating my BC is medically necessary. I thought BC was required to be covered after obamacare and this is the first issue I've had. Before I had Anthem and have had Humana with no issues. Has anyone else had this happen and how did you resolve the issue (i.e. how do I get my meds for free again?) [link] [comments] |

Someone else's car's tire fell off and hit my car. Who is liable? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:36 AM PST I'll try to keep it as brief as I can. It was raining, dark night at around 10pm. I turned right at a four-way intersection and I wasn't able to see a tire laying on the ground. I hit the tire and it did damage to my car. Someone was pulled over and it was their left front tire. Initially they refused to exchange information, but did so when I called the cops. The cops said that insurance won't cover it because it was an object lying on the road and it should have been my responsibility to dodge it. But 1) I didn't have enough line of sight to be able to dodge it as I was just turning, 2) it was dark and raining at night. Their insurance card also seems expired. Are they liable? Would I be able to get my deductible back from my insurance? [link] [comments] |
Building auto insurance history with Metromile? Posted: 02 Dec 2019 12:11 PM PST I've been using a pay per mile auto insurance - Metromile - for almost a year now because the monthly rate at other insurance companies was too high (300+). I thought it was because I've been in 3 accidents - 2 of them (2017) I was not at fault. The third was minor in which I grazed a gate (2018). I'd like to have more predictable monthly payments so I spoke to a Geico agent this morning. I was offered a quote which was around the same as I got a year ago. I asked him if it was because of the accidents and he said that, that was a very small factor going into my rate. A big reason why it's so high, he said, is because I haven't built enough insurance history and because my monthly payments towards Metromile fluctuate so much, it's impossible to build a solid history of paying. If I were to switch to something with a more steady payment plan - like Geico - I'd build a better portfolio of steady payments and my rate would drop significantly within 6 months. Does this sound right? I'm not sure if he was just trying to make a sale or it really would be impossible for me to build a good history with Metromile. Any insight would be appreciated! (Background - I'm 29. I got my license at 25, didn't actually start driving until 26 and was added onto someone else's insurance. I've been the primary account holder for auto insurance for 1 year and 4 months) [link] [comments] |
Question in regards to good student discounts Posted: 02 Dec 2019 10:39 AM PST sup r/insurance, I'm currently browsing for a new policy. I'm curious about how strict is the good student discount rule and how they check. I could tell many insurance companies follow a "B" average/3.0 GPA and I'm wondering if they consider cumulative gpa or gpa for just the previous term because that makes a huge difference (2.80 is my cumulative since freshman year, 2.92 since transferring to a state university). And with that being said I'm less than 0.1 point off from being considered a good student so will they be lenient with that fact? Also how do they check? Thanks guys [link] [comments] |
Biking Accident - trying to get paid. Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:41 AM PST I am a biker, I bike for work (delivery person) and it is the way I commute everywhere. While biking I got hit by a door. I was in the bike lane and someone opened their door right infront of me, I had no time to stop and ran into it. I did not need to go to hospital, but do have major bruising on my knee and arm. I had to call off work the next day as I was too sore to go. There was very little damage to my bike, mostly I just straightened my tire and it was good to continue riding. I got the drivers insurance and filled out a police report. I would like to get paid for something as I had to call off work. I'm asking for any advice + suggestions on how much I should ask for. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
