Hiring first full time employee - input needed Posted: 03 Dec 2019 04:07 PM PST Hi so i own a small business and I'm hiring for an executive assistant position. There will be fiduciary responsibilities as well as (Eventual) access to company bank accounts etc. My question is who would you hire and why: Candidate A is great on paper - most educated and wide range of experience, great in person, and great references. No criminal record. Very poor financial history, including bankruptcy & eviction. Is also asking for the most money. Candidate B isn't impressive on paper, great in person, ok references, no criminal history and excellent financial history. Willing to work their way up and earn higher payscale but a reference said they had little capacity for emotional intelligence and I can't shake it off. Candidate C isn't impressive on paper, great in person with the most potential, above average references, and excellent financial history - however might prove to be a conflicting personality based on tests and what other references said. Candidate D is the most balanced of all 4 (minus an eviction) however is the most out of touch when it comes to technology (our field of expertise). I made sure to check the laws in my state and everything I'm posting here should be in compliance (if not please let me know otherwise) Edit: I'm at a job site now but I am reading everything and will respond ASAP thank you for all the different viewpoints and advice truly appreciated ! Time until loans without personal guarantee Posted: 03 Dec 2019 04:56 PM PST Hi all, I'm curious how long it took you all to obtain loans on just the business's credit without a personal guarantee. When I first started my business, it made sense because to be a guarantor as the business had no track record. Since then, I've paid off my initial SBA loan, paid off a large line of credit, and other small business credit cards. I also have multiple years of documented growth. I'm now looking for more funding to expand but all the banks are still expecting a personal guarantee. It's not that I'm concerned about the liability or the ability to pay. One of my success criteria was that the business could stand independent of me. As long as banks require a personal guarantee, it feels like they're loaning me the money, not my business. What's been your experiences with this? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
How exactly do I register for a business license if I'm going to be selling art prints? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 03:43 AM PST I'm brand new to this. It's fairly overwhelming, I know it's only going to get more complicated as I actually begin this process, but is there any way that someone could just point me in the right direction? Any tips would be appreciated too! Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Am I SoL for credit cards/loans? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 06:57 AM PST I own a small business, videographer/media company. It's an LLC, I'm the only member. 200k gross this year, 2 other contract employees. I'm 23 years old, dropped out of college at 19 with massive debt and no job for almost a year, so my credit is shit. It's been slowly improving for about 1.5 years now (because my business has been good), but I'm getting denied left and right for small business loans and business credit cards, which I can only assume is because of my terrible credit (which again, has gone up maybe 100 points in the last 2 years) I want to open an office/studio, which is why I want a small loan, or a credit card. Am I just applying at the wrong places, or am I just SoL until my credit is better? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Dec 2019 04:27 AM PST Launching a small hospitality business this month and my team and I have already decided the name of the brand. However, we are not sure if we are using the correct qualifier. We built a four storey building with twelve units. Each unit ranges in size from 240-250 sq ft and main amenities include kitchen, washing machine, bathroom, queen sized bed, tv and WI-FI. There are some communal areas in the building as well such as a communal kitchen on 1F and lounging areas on every floor plus a rooftop lounge area. We are thinking of using Airbnb as our main platform as they have a good system for screening guests i.e. ID, tel, credit card and social media verification. The building was designed to be very environmentally friendly as construction materials were sourced locally, water heater works with solar panels and there's a rain water collection system used for the indoor vertical garden. My question is basically which qualifier works best after the name of the brand? For example, let's say the brand name is 'Hendrix'. And so here we have some options, for example: Hendrix Suites Hendrix Studios Hendrix Residence Hendrix BnB Would any of those work? Would there be a better naming convention? Thanks any input is much appreciated [link] [comments] |
quickbooks online another price increase Posted: 03 Dec 2019 03:18 PM PST So i just got an email that quickbooks online are going to increase their pricing AGAIN this year. I wonder what the justification is this time, as they seem to always increase it by a large amount. And it is still soooo buggy. What do people recommend as a good alternative that does multi currency? [link] [comments] |
Business credit building card. Posted: 03 Dec 2019 03:29 PM PST Hi, a well-funded entrepreneur with financial technology experience here. I am currently exploring a problem where small business owners with low deposit amounts can't get a credit card without a personal guarantee even if they just want to get a card to separate personal from business expenses or get credit-card like protection on their business purchases. But before building it I want to see if there is an actual need for it. I am wondering if a simple solution that doesn't require personal guarantee would be in demand. It would work in a simple way, you pass personal credit check, get a charge business credit card (with modern website/mobile app of course) that is directly linked to your checking account balance with another bank, so your credit limit is dynamic and changes month-to-month to match your available cash balance on another account, if you don't pay your last month's balance your card is paused and unpaid debts affect your personal score (with no personal liability). Purposed for business credit building. Would something like this have been helpful to you back when you first started your business? If not, anything else that has been frustrating about business banking? All opinions welcome. Thanks [link] [comments] |
How to get an unfair advantage as a small business? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 12:31 AM PST Starbucks's unfair advantage over other coffee shops is that it has a luxury social status. Just as big a deal is that it is the prime coffee place to lounge, like a european coffee shop. These two things give starbucks a monopoly on certain customers. The key to advantage is a lacking competition, and your company being the best solution which is 2-3x better? better experience or easier to use solution. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Dec 2019 06:59 PM PST Hello all, I am wanting to reach out and see if anyone has ever started, ran or worked for a document destruction company (shredding, hard drive destruction, etc). I have been thinking about this business for a while and do believe I have found a niche in the market. There are a few things that I have questions/concerns about: - What is the state of the industry? I always see differing articles, research, etc. on this topic. I currently work for an agency within the department of Human and Health Services and I see how often our healthcare facilities have to go through these processes. But the ultimate goal that is emphasized by our director is to go paperless and I know this is a consensus throughout all industries (though paperless isn't always attainable). - Could I get by running the business in the early stages by just myself and a part time worker? - What is necessary equipment from the start: Shred truck, truck unloading system, baler, etc.? I know these are sort of open ended question and I have so many other questions about the business. At this stage, any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance fellow redditors. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 04:57 PM PST Hi David We're a new digital agency in the area and we're looking at learning about and helping businesses in the area improve their websites. We've noticed the website for (name redacted) isn't mobile responsive so isn't as visible to where most of the traffic comes from. Since the site was designed by (current agency name) a large number of potential clients are visiting via mobile. I think working with (name redacted) could be a great fit and we could help build you a much more modern website with features such as appointment booking and pages that showcase what the company does (including services such as your specialism in Crime). We've recently built sites for example.co.uk, Another example (example.co.uk) and example 3 (example.co.uk) It would be great to sit down and discuss this. I'm also available on 07xxxxxx if you have any questions Thanks (Company email signature) How does that read? [link] [comments] |

What are some good networking outlets for Computer Repair business? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 03:41 PM PST So, I guess i'll give you all the details so you know what's happening. Me and my friend (we are both 15) are working on starting a computer repair business (we do repairs, upgrades, and full builds) and we have done everything that we can think of to network ourselves (more details later) but we thought that someone may have some more advice. Anyway, being 15, we don't really have enough money saved up to put a bunch of money into the business up front. The plan is to put 50% of our profits back towards the business. Our main marketing point is that we are cheap, fast, and high quality. Here is what we have done as far as marketing/networking goes: Business cards Social media (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook) Craigslist listing (If you don't know what it is, it's basically like local only ebay) Website (just a free website with some details about us and our company, and an email contact form) Word of mouth (friends recommending us to their friends) School clubs (we reached out to the gaming club and they sent out a message recommending us, we are planning to also reach out to DECA (a business/marketing club)) Yelp page (we tried to have some friends (before you get mad about it, we only asked friends who we had built/fixed computers for) leave reviews but they were deleted because of the way yelp works for users that don't review enough places) So anyways, now that you know all of that information, any tips? I think the main thing we need is to get are name out there so I am mostly looking for any advice in that area, but anything else could help too. We also are a bit worried about being able to get people to trust a couple of teenagers to take their computers to fix them, because well, computers are expensive. Other than that, I don't specifically know what I need to work on but hopefully somebody does. Thanks for any advice you can give me, it all helps! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 03:02 PM PST Hi, My 'husband' recently invested in a small business which I effectively operate as the only 'employee'. Its currently owned by his company, though we intend to eventually create a third entity with me as co-owner. Currently we are trying to figure out how to go about getting some kind of medical/ benefits /insurance thing started. I have some dental work to be done I also have regular prescription needs and have glasses. and it would be good to have some kind of insurance. Since I'm also our secretary its my job to figure it this out. How do you go about looking for single, or 'two' person coverage for something like this? What companies are good to look into. Located in Canada, British Columbia. Any advice is welcome. [link] [comments] |
HELP: How do I achieve the highest phone call quality? Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:23 AM PST I own a business where I talk on the phone a lot, from my home office. I want the highest call quality possible. I bought a Jabra Evolve 75 and made some samples calls using Google Voice on my computer to see how it would sound. It was terrible. It sounded like a cell phone with poor reception. I thought connecting to a PC would give me the highest call quality, but I was wrong. I'm now considering buying a landline with Spectrum because every time I talk to a landline their voice sounds clear ($9.99/mo). What are your suggestions for a setup that will give me crystal clear sound quality? Should I go with the landline and a nice phone? I can't really afford to trial and error all the top-end equipment. This headset already cost me a couple hundred bucks and its not what I was expecting. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 10:22 AM PST Hello all I have a few questions about starting an online business/ choosing a website. For a little back ground knowledge me and my girlfriend are going to try and create an online clothing brand(real original I know) that gives back to certain organizations and non profits. I'm a marketing major and she's a graphic design major so I thought we should try this for 2 reasons, the first being that it is good experience for both of us and the second being it helps giving back to what I believe in(which is helping the environment) I'm not really looking to churn a lot of profit it just fits a few of my passions and I think it could be something good to work on while I'm going through school. My question is about creating a website which I have no idea where to start. I'm a complete novice when it comes to that so I was wondering if you guys have any advice or can refer me to any readings that could help educate on what website to pick and how to do it. Cheers. Edit: does anyone have any experiences or knowledge good or bad on teemill? [link] [comments] |

Can you guys give me some ideas, in relation to personal finance, for creating new video content? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2019 12:42 PM PST Hi fellow small business owners. Hopefully everyone is ending the year on a good note! I am wondering where you guys and gals advertise job openings. LinkedIn? Indeed? Monster? Craigslist? Specifically looking to hire an inside sales person. Thanks to everyone in advance! [link] [comments] |
