    What exactly does "B4" mean?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 07:13 PM PST

Shamefully have lurked in this sub, and posted a few questions, and i have yet to figure out what B4 means. Is just big 4 companies? If so, who are they? Where are they located?

I'm a freshman in college, and I was tempted to pursue a career with bussiness accounting

Useful certifications to pair with a CPA?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 07:38 PM PST

I still have to take AUD and BEC, but I'm just thinking later down the road about getting another certification when I finish the CPA.

I'm in big 4 audit right now, but I'm planning on leaving for a more finance based career when I reach sometime after I reach senior. I know CFA is popular, but the long process of obtaining it makes me question if it's worth in. But then I've also heard an MBA is not really worth it either.

Can anyone share what they've done/what you think would be good to obtain to have pursue a more finance based career.

CPA Tax and Assurance Exam Please Help

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 03:19 PM PST

So I previously failed the Tax PEP Exam and am rewriting this semester along with taking the Assurance Exam. I am realizing this was not a good idea, but I have no choice as I really need to write the CFE in May.

The exams are in less than two weeks (Dec 18+19) and I am feeling extremely stressed, mainly about tax. Assurance seems to be okay and I have been able to complete the weekly cases with good time and grade but the exam could totally different and more difficult so who knows. I feel like there's no way I will be even as prepared as last time for tax as I have been relearning some things and will fail again plus Assurance.

Any study tips/plans anyone has for either exam? Really appreciate any help

Interested in accounting at 28 UK, what should I do?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 10:00 PM PST

I have 0 financial experience, my diploma is a game development one and so is my longest working experience.. So pretty useless. Currently doing self employed caring.

I'm 28 atm interested in accounting and im wondering if I should just start taking night classes at a local college for level 2 and then look for a job, or if I should look straight for an internship or if I should maybe even go to university? What route would you recommend?

Big 4 Risk Advisory - Career Progression Question

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 02:03 PM PST

    Hello y'all,

I have a question in terms of Career progression. I recently received offer from Big 4 Risk Advisory. I am 30 yo and a Graduate Student majoring in Information Systems, so ill start around June-August in 20'.

Im literally starting my career just now because 1) Im a recent Immigrant with below-par work experience. Basically retail and customer service 2) Grad School finally opened doors for me and somehow I got selected for Big 4 Advisory so im starting my career really late. (But im really thankful for the wonderful opportunity)

So I suppose my question is, can a 30 year old guy like me make a mark in Big 4 and go far?

Im definitely going to stay in Big 4 and would love to reach level of Senior Manager. Do y'all think it's possible by the age of 40?

Would anyone break down Hierarchy in Risk Advisory in terms of my age? Like 2 years as Staff Consultant I and II, 3-4 years as Senior Consultant etc.

Basically i see young people doing so well in Big 4 that it has made me think if ill be able to catch up soon.

    Thank you again.

    Free Talk Friday

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 06:06 AM PST

Well, it's the first Friday of the last month of the year, or decade depending on how you interpret the calendar and keep track of years.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving if you're in the US! And it seems like Christmas commercials, decorations, and songs are kicking up in full swing (in my area I was seeing them before Thanksgiving started...) again.

It's pretty much dead in my office right now, and I have to attend a national firm wide training conference next week. How's everyone else's lives going so far? Any deadlines to meet, crazy Thanksgiving family horror stories you want to share, or interesting plans you have going on for the rest of the year?

Accepted FT offer for public firm 2 months ago that starts this coming September. I'm now inclined to reach out to the recruiter and ask if I could transfer to City Y. Is this a bold question to ask, given that I already accepted the offer in for City X?

Late comer in accounting field. I'm 27 in about 4 months and I have 12 years of study meaning undergraduate. I'm thinking of opting ACCA as a career choice. Please do let me know what you think of it

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 08:27 PM PST

I've zero experience in accountancy related firms. Do I go for it or is it too late as i'll need 4-5 years to qualify including work experience. How'll be my time in work filed as my age fellows won't be there. Will I be able to reach Big-4? I have a lot of concerns, I'll appreciate your advice.

    Tax or Audit

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 04:16 PM PST

I am a senior in college and recently interviewed today at a big CPA firm in my area. One of the topics of discussion was which department am i interested in joining: Tax or Audit?

Those of you in either path, what is your experience? Which do you prefer and which do you recommend? Also what does your workday consist of (travel to client sites, at the office, work from home, etc...)?

Did I get the internship? Will there be another interview?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 07:30 PM PST

I got an email saying that I am one of the "final applicants" and I should do a background check. Then I got another email saying... "Company strives to create a welcoming and safe environment for all individuals. Consistent with this goal, all final applicants are required to undergo a background check facilitated by Company. A background check must be satisfactorily completed prior to employment. Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon a successful completion of a background check."

Does this mean I got the job? Who is a final applicant? Did I screw up by emailing them "Hi, I just completed the background check. Looking forward to setting up another interview with you!"
