r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday Nov 01, 2019 Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:07 AM PDT This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against fundamentals here and not in the current post. Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports. Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well. See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki: If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned. Apple, Amazon, Tesla top list of millennial stock holdings in new survey Posted: 31 Oct 2019 06:00 PM PDT https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-amazon-tesla-millennial-stock-holdings-200721963.html Millennials are betting big on Big Tech. Apex Clearing's latest Millennial 100 stock pulse report found that Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), Tesla (TSLA), and Facebook (FB) were the stocks most held by millennial investors. Berkshire Hathaway (BRKB) rounded out the Top 5. Millennials, typically defined as the generation born between 1981 to 1996, are continuing to shift trends by "investing what they believe in," Apex CEO Bill Capuzzi told YFI AM on Thursday. "They're investing what they know." While many companies favored by millennials went public this year, including Uber (UBER), Lyft (LYFT), and Pinterest (PINS), Capuzzi said one has risen up the list more quickly than most: Beyond Meat (BYND). Why are dividend yields different on RH compared to other brokerages? Posted: 01 Nov 2019 11:28 AM PDT Take TGT for example. RH says 3.569 yield while something like TD says 2.45. Will I simply earn more dividend if im using RH? [link] [comments] |
New to the market, looking for advice on penny stocks. Posted: 01 Nov 2019 08:49 AM PDT As the title states, I'm new to the market and looking to play around with some lower dollar per share stocks ($.50 - $1.00). This is truly just for fun and separate from my retirement fund, so I'm looking for advice on stocks that I might try jumping in and out of. Any other advice/strategy is also welcome. How to profit of Chinas push for domestic semiconductor production Posted: 01 Nov 2019 06:36 AM PDT China is taking steps to become less dependent on semiconductor imports. That means China's semiconductor industry will grow in the coming years. I am wondering if any of you already have done research which companies to invest in, in order to profit from this development. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:52 AM PDT New Call of Duty came out and is selling like crazy. Are turtle beach headphones a complementary good? Earnings come out next week. [link] [comments] |
Yahoo Finance error in yesterday's volume Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:33 PM PDT Looking at multiple charts and unless I'm missing something, they have volume way too high for every stock I've looked at. MCD volume says nearly 500M shares, ERIC is also over 500M, etc. This is only specific to yesterday's prices as all the ones I've looked at are back to normal today. This is just a bug, correct? Has anyone else experienced this or is it just my computer? [link] [comments] |
Cybersecurity and Surveillance Technology Industries Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:21 PM PDT Hi all, I am new to investing, have created a few broker accounts and now looking forward to invest some money I have put aside. My question here is if anyone know any Investment Research services focusing on the two industries I mentioned in the title. Is yahoo finance, morning star or zack's any good ? Are there any better ones for the industries I am interested in ? Thank you in advance, [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:10 PM PDT Does anyone have an opinion on why this company trades so low? what happened in 4 years that killed its evaluation? it is also supposed to eventually merge with Pfizer! cant be that bad [link] [comments] |
Why is alibaba stock dropping even though they beat their estimated EPS Posted: 01 Nov 2019 09:20 AM PDT What I thought was the EPS was important because it show what direction the stock was going to go, but alibaba is doing the opposite [link] [comments] |
I've Gained Just Over 62% Overall in my AAPL Position; When to Sell? Posted: 01 Nov 2019 12:16 PM PDT When is enough gains.....enough? I know many market variables are at play here. Apple is at 52 week high today currently trading at $254.48. I first bought AAPL$ back in 2017 when it traded at $152 and the dividends and gains have been great! I'd like to break off a piece of the earnings for myself, but I don't want to get trapped in the mindset of, "Maybe next week it goes a little higher." Or the other though, "What if next week it plummets!" What would your sell position look like to enjoy some profits? Sell at 50% gain? 60%? [link] [comments] |
African Swine Fever decimates global pig population, financial implications? Posted: 01 Nov 2019 04:12 AM PDT
What do you think this means for the meat industry? A potential upside for domestic producers in unaffected countries, with lowered competition from cheaper, foreign imported meats? Is it already priced in, given that this is relatively old news, or are there any opportunities here? Or does it spell danger on the horizon for the entire pork industry if the spread continues? What happens to FIT stock now that Google bought it? Posted: 01 Nov 2019 11:42 AM PDT Does it become Google stock? or what does it mean if you hold it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2019 11:16 AM PDT So for years I've thought about investing. I turn 30 in December. I've done a lot of "research" and reading and watching youtube videos and I feel like i'm confident enough to start buying. Because I'm still a chicken shit though, I only want to buy 2 shares at a time of each company that I like. Then when I get a feel for how things really are, I can "go all in" or ramp up my investments. Here is a list of the first companies I want to buy into and hold onto for a long time. Remember I only want 2 per until i'm comfortable. Coca-Cola $53.88 Starbucks $85.69 Disney $130.83 Johnson & Johnson $127.55 Waste Management $117.06 McDonalds $209.57 Target $113.32 Walmart $119.34 Pepsi $136.10 Dunkin Donuts $76.39 Dominoes Pizza $258.86 Is this a "smart" strategy for a new investor? I know about index funds and the "safety" behind them but I know that's a "slow game" and I can always buy into S&P or something and throw money at it but I believe in these companies. Thoughts? Am I an idiot? Halp. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2019 10:34 AM PDT ANET dropped over 23% so far today, primarily due to facebook slowdown on orders (according to Benzinga). It's looking like it will take some time to recover but $185, seems like a solid entry point. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Hop in $ATVI before end of day! Blizzcon starting, dont miss out! Posted: 01 Nov 2019 10:25 AM PDT There is a huge chance they are going to announce some complete bangers like Overwatch Expansion and Diablo 4. With great Modern Warfare sales numbers in the first 3 days, this boy is going to another galactic system. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2019 06:37 AM PDT I have stock In fitbit who announced a purchase through alphabet. Should I hold on to it or sell now? 0 experience in having stock when a company is bought. [link] [comments] |
KULR Technology (OTCQB: KULR) CNN Interview with Julia Chatterley this morning Posted: 01 Nov 2019 08:22 AM PDT How often do you see an OTC company interviewed on CNN? CNN Chatterley interview available here **About KULR Technology Group, Inc. **Disclosure: This information does not constitute an offer to sell or a solicitation of offers to buy any securities of KULR. My family has invested in KULR and I'm personally acting as a consultant for KULR and have been compensated in shares for that role. I'm an unlicensed financial professional but performed extensive research on the Company and believe KULR has real potential to displace conventional thermal management or "cooling" solutions for the electronics and battery industries. This is my one-sided opinion and you should always perform your own complete due diligence before making any investment decision. There is obviously risk of loss when buying or selling securities and generally even greater risk associated with buying or selling micro-cap stocks. Some real challenges faced by micro-cap companies include raising capital, increasing liquidity, attracting institutional investors, gaining analyst coverage, and general mistrust of the micro-cap market. Micro-cap companies also tend to lack in resources and often struggle to commercialize their products or services in a meaningful way. [link] [comments] |

MO - why should I not drop 10,000 on this stock? Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:47 AM PDT Considering buying MO. It'll pay back this investment and then some in no time. I think people will always smoke and their fingers in the marijuana pond look promising. Any reason not to buy? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:33 AM PDT Colgate released their earnings today and from what I gather revenue and sales are up but profits are down. If I got that correct would you say Colgate is a buy opportunity, it's down 3% today as I speak and I have a feeling that the markets may have over reacted to this news. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2019 06:31 AM PDT So I have 12 shares of FitBit, and the Alphabet purchase of FitBit was just confirmed. I know my stock value goes up, but what happens after the buy out? Do I have until the deal closes to sell my stock? Does it turn into Alphabet stock? Does it grow along with Google and I should keep it? Should I sell as it reaches the share purchase price? I'm very new to the stock market and need some help. [link] [comments] |
