Consumer borrowing rises, led by more auto and student loans

WASHINGTON (AP) — Consumer borrowing rose in September at a modest pace, driven by more student and auto loans, though a category that mostly includes credit cards fell for the second straight month.

The Federal Reserve said Thursday that overall consumer borrowing increased 2.8% to $4.15 trillion. A category that covers student and auto loans rose 4.2%, while credit card debt fell 1.2%.

Americans are spending at a solid pace but in recent months have relied less on borrowing. Steady, if modest, income growth has enabled consumers to shop more while also stepping up saving. A separate government report last week showed that spending rose in September, but incomes increased more, lifting the savings rate to 8.3%, the highest in six months.

Here are the most accurate S&P 500 predictions of the year, so far

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 03:45 PM PST

Goldman's David Kostin leads the pack

Here are 15 of the top strategists on Wall Street ranked by the proximity of their year-end targets to the S&P 500's current record level, as of Thursday's close of 3,085.18. (Where strategists gave a range, MarketWatch used the midpoint).

In early November, the bulls have the upper hand, and it's clear that most on Wall Street have not expected the stock market to be as resilient as it has been, but with seven weeks left in the year, there is plenty of time for bears to win the day.

If you had to choose one stock to buy for the next two months, what would it be? I choose BABA

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 08:24 PM PST

Just for a general discussion, what companies do you think will do best in the short term, and which one would you choose. I have a feeling BABA will finally shoot up, after being range bound for so long and being undervalued imo. Also I think the Hong Kong stock listing will help. Opinions?

$DIS Get ready for a good story from Disney

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 04:07 PM PST

    Entry level $131.75 = Target price $146 = Stop loss $127.35
We believe that Disney will tell a good story in today's earnings report, in particular regarding the new streaming service.
the only downside we see is theme park closure issues to due to weather events.
Technically the stock is sitting on strong support which we believe will hold and a challenge to old highs will come int he next few weeks.

    Trip Advisor's 10+++% bonus dividend!

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 11:25 AM PST

Hey all. I'm a bit shameless when it comes to dividend capture and never mind being on the other side of popular opinion when it comes to yield. Trip Advisor is getting smoked today along with Booking and Expedia but don't let that stop you all from snagging shares on the cheap. Ordinarily I wouldn't pay these guys any mind but they announced a special $3.50 dividend this quarter and I've been hoovering up shares between $31 to $34 range. This remnant of web 1.0 yields over 10% at any price point beneath $35 and is sure to creep back up once a definitive date is put out there. Cheers!

Neutral Trade Setup with Hard to Borrow Interest - Easy Profit?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 09:07 AM PST

So I was thinking about a strategy where I set up a neutral to make $ off of rebate fees.

    For example today:

Buy 100 shares ARLP at 11.46

Buy 1 30 strike ARLP PUT at 18.54

Earn rebate for shares held - currently is -250.04%

Obviously the shares and put would be risk neutral and my broker pays me 50% of the rebate at seemingly no risk. What is this trade called and what am I missing here?

    Wash Sale on Profits

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 09:03 AM PST

Question, if I sold a stock for a profit but then decided to get back in to that stock within a 30 day time period. Does that void the profit taxes I would have to pay/keep it building toward a long term investment?

    Question on Options Trading Strategy

    Posted: 07 Nov 2019 08:30 AM PST

If I am buying calls for CBS and TSN expiring Friday 11/15, both releasing earnings next Tuesday premarket, should I sell Monday and secure some profits? Or should I wait until Tuesday after the earnings release- I am afraid of theta decay and IV screwing me even if earnings are positive and the share price moves upward. What do you use to determine when you should exit an options earnings play?
