Question about not having Car Insurance when renting a car Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:03 AM PST I live in Japan now and have no had insurance for about a year, I was going to rent a car with my CSR reserve card which covers up to 75,000 in collision but good thing as I called as i quickly found out that there is no Liability to property, myself, passengers, and others So i did a lot of homework, called a bunch of times, and I am getting charged about 440 for the Liability of the other car and for myself and others through AVIS, declining the collision for the rental I spoke to geico on the phone who i had been using for about 15 years, and they offered me for about 60 a month the insurance i needed for renting but they told me they do not do short term insurance and dont want me to cancel my service. I need the rental for about 30 days so i was wondering if i started and the coverage and canceled it in 30 days would it affect me later in the future? Here is a link to the benefits [link] [comments] |
Insurance company says my car is an 05 instead of an 06 Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:01 AM PST I was recently rear ended by someone who admitted fault but did not have insurance, so I am dealing with my own insurance. It's a total loss claim as the frame of my car was damaged badly. My car is old but it's a large luxury SUV and is still worth a bit. It is a 2006 model. The registration is marked as a 2006, the original manual and papers and all the service history are signed as a 2006. The car was sold in 2006. The build date is December 2005. The insurance company is claiming that they go off build date instead of year model when valuing the car. The 2005 typically goes for $2k to 3k less than the 2006. They're comparing the value of my car against currently listed 2005 model vehicles in my country, but how can they do that when my car is a 2006 model? Even if they're going of build date, the 2005 models are built in 2004. Can they actually do this? [link] [comments] |
Ohio: Was told to tell contractor to lie to insurance adjuster Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:06 AM PST Edit: the cost of the claim $220,000 This takes a sec to unpack. Sorry for the informal tone and such. Facts only as best as I can relate them. Aged and obsolete combo fire/intrusion alarm system is failing. A common failure to it's communication module. Bridged the system to another similar system to maintain comms. Still does nothing to report during disarmed hours, but staff can fire watch. Multiple bids from as many as were willing. The OEM and curent service provider was the high bid $350,000. We have a service and maintenance agreement in place at this point with them. Please note; they refused to fix under that agreement, obsolete equipment. So 5 bids total. Lowest was 130,000. Winner is coming in at about $220,000 once the latest change orders are submitted. Boss man gets all interested once ownership approves the final bid. Gets the idea to submit to insurance for water damage. I was not concerned as it was a long shot and obviously not from water damage. Boss man admitted to others and in groups that the water damage was a stretch of the truth. Week or so I'm left out of a insurance adjuster visit. Weird considering I'm resident subject matter expert. Another yesman was included and asked me questions about equipment. I stated that it was not water damage and that was a made up conclusion. Old age was killing it not water. He told me he didn't want to lie. Weeks later, get email asking for my bidders. All the contractors that submitted, bossman wants contact info. Send it over. Asks me for the winning contractor's contact info a few days later. Send that over. In the reply he asks me to give them a heads up and inform them that we are reporting it as water damage... I never answered that email. I will not told what he is asking. Days later the contractors start calling. Same story, insurance adjuster called this is what was said. I warned them to answer the questions honestly and that their morals and ethics where their own. Then come the "HERO". A bidder who was formerly contracted for other work pipes up with a new storey. Stated that in His "expert" opinion it was a power surge. With burn marks and all. ALL Completely fabricated. I informed ownership of the situation and the request. Explained the entire issue. He was going to call bossman that day. BUT, insurance emailed bossman that the claim was approved. Owner has not spoke to bossman that I know of yet. Thats 2 weeks ago. I'm a mess. The project will be done in early December. Help? Advice? What ever you can offer would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
I hit a parked car in a parking lot Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:38 PM PST I was backing up in a tight parking lot and accidentally hit a parked car behind me. The owner of that car came and checked on his car, there was a little scratches but he said it's okay. But my car rear bumper was broken, and also the tail light. My friend did an estimate and told me it would cost at least 3000 to fix. I now have to call my insurance, just wondering how my insurance would handle with the other car that I hit? Would they care about it since the owner of the car said it's okay. And if my insurance does pay 3000 to fix my car how does that affect my current policy? Is there an estimated premium increase? This is my first accident after 10 years of driving. [link] [comments] |
ALABAMA. What does this mean on my BCBS Claims? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:24 PM PST So on every service it has a note saying "the other blues plans does not let us pay for this service. If you are billed for it, please call us (M012) ? It says my balance on those services is 0 and the full discount is applied, but why is it showing that? [link] [comments] |
Aviva insurance-- Personal Injury Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:58 PM PST I was rear-ended last year, ended up in the hospital for 1 week after the accident. Aviva did assessments and found i need physio and chiropractics but not psychological. They have denied my treatment now since August. Why are they doing this and how do i proceed? Ended up with some deviated spinal injury (honestly don't know the name). Have seen specialist, done surgeries and have had serious PTSD and Panic attacks. 1. will they ever settle with me? 2. when will my treatment begin again? Lawyer seems like they don't know what's going on. -ON- [link] [comments] |
[UK based]Do I pay excess here? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:30 PM PST Hi, today I was involved in an incident that was my fault. My car is not badly damaged, so I won't be making a claim, but the other person's car was damaged, and I imagine they will be claiming against my policy. My question is this, will I have to pay my excess? I'm under the impression that I only pay my excess if I am making a claim for damages to my car. [link] [comments] |
Phoenix AZ homeowners insurance claim for fire Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:33 PM PST I've found the claims adjuster advice for total loss, but this probably won't be. The fire investigator said it was pretty heavy smoke damage for the whole house but only the living room has any true fire damage. They cut a hole in the roof, pulled down the ceiling there's waterlogged insulation on everything. They changed the locks and boarded up the roof. The fire investigator suggested we go to a hotel which we have, but the claim center said our adjuster will get back to us by next business day. (Tommorow) and told us to take the care we need to to secure our belongings. I'm wondering what else we should do on top of the changes locks since we aren't staying there. Also we don't have any clothes so are we going to have any problem from the adjuster if we buy some. Since the clothes may be salvageable? [link] [comments] |
[MA] Parked Car Accident Incidentals Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:23 PM PST My parked car was hit a by a driver this morning while I was asleep. He also hit another car; that driver was there, got all the insurance information, started a claim, and left me a note. Since it is Sunday, I have to wait until tomorrow to call the other party's insurance company, grab a copy of the police report, etc. The direct expenses are easy (car repairs, tow, etc.) and should be handled by the other party. What I want to know is can I get reimbursement for incidental expenses even if I wasn't injured; all the sources seem to indicate I can only for medical reasons. I'm mainly talking:
Any help would be appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Florida - swimming in toilet water Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:26 PM PST Well not swimming, but the toilet somehow flooded our house over night. We have engineered wood floors in most of the house, and they are shit. Delaminating and cupping already. I submitted the claim online at 2am (tower hill) and they had a remediation company here at 9am, remove baseboards and put driers etc in place. Have not heard from the company yet, but they sent an email saying they assigned a adjuster. I have a few question on how to approach things, been a homeowner 20 years and this is my first claim ever. Do your rights vary by policy? For instance, we have oak floors In The living area and a dark espresso floor in the bedrooms. Only one bedroom flooded, will they replace the other as well? We hate to not have matching floors. Same for a family room that is separated by tile in our kitchen. It's fine but it won't match. Will that be addressed or no? We'd rather go with a newer style but then it won't match at all obviously. Any experience working a claim with tower hill, or suggestion on how to approach? Edit - also, why are the rules of any for accommodations? The house is USABLE at the moment but we have toddlers and my wife is worried about the mess and noise from the equipment. Also once they start construction I can't imagine being here. Policy says 40k for loss of use, is either a reason for getting accommodations paid? [link] [comments] |
Car insurance - can i take my vehicle to a shop other than the one I first said I would? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:19 AM PST Located in Missouri. Earlier this year my vehicle recieved hail damage. My insurance company gave me an estimate, and then my regular shop met them somewhere in the middle. The insurance company gave me the check, making sure it was clear to me that i could spend the money however i wished. At first this excited me because i dont care about hail damage, but after learning that 1. Prior damage left unfixed could be deducted from future insurance payouts and 2. That I'm beholden to my bank because i dont outright own the car, i decided i wanted to go the route of fixing it. I did have one other suggestion made to me though by a relative, and that's paintless dent repair. If it is cheaper to go that route, is it legal for me to pay for a paintless dent repair with my check that was based on another shops quote? The fact that my insurance company said I could use the money however i wanted makes me say yes, but don't they want me paying at least 500 for a deductible? Meaning theyd want to know if I was doing a cheaper option, so they would have to shell out less money? Furthermore, would dentless paint repair qualify as "fixing my car," and prevent any future potential insurance payouts from being minimized? Perhaps these are questions only answerable by my insurance company, but i wanted to see if anyone here had insight on the matter. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:14 PM PST I was in a car accident Tuesday, I was not at fault because the other driver came into oncoming traffic. No airbags deployed and I hit the other drivers car head on. I was driving 10 and 2 and my dominant arm and hand started to turn blue. My fiance drove me to the hospital I didnt take an ambulance because i have no health insurance just charity care. The Nurses said I injured my bracial plexus and took Xrays. The doctor told me if I'm still feeling pain by the weekend to come back to the ER and they will do an MRI. I am still in significant pain, my left arm and hand is extremely weak. My hand is starting to discolor again and I am feeling burning sensations in my left shoulder, arm, and hand. I also have a really nasty migrane and am getting pains throughout my left side of my body. I plan on getting a lawyer, but should I go back to the emergency room or should I go to Urgent Care? Auto insurance non-renewal for claims? (Liberty Mutual) Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:39 PM PST For various reasons, my sister, wife and I are all on the same policy. (Strange things about car ownership/title.) Sister has had two at-fault claims (sideswiping parked cars while pulling into parking spaces) in the past 9 months. Both were minimal claims, but were at-fault. She says she doesn't understand why she does so, so we can probably expect this to continue. Right now, we have her off the road because of her irresponsibility. Beyond the question of what happens when/if she hits someone, because of the car ownership entanglement, I'm worried about her and/or all of us becoming uninsurable. What should we expect from Liberty Mutual in terms of number of claims allowed in a year before they'll refuse to insure someone? I realize there's always an insurer of last resort, but I'm trying to stay with LM... and figuring that such a policy would be very painfully priced. [link] [comments] |
Blue cross blue shield workers, help please Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:48 PM PST I have a question about coordination of benefits. I have 2 Blue cross blue shield policies. Exactly the same coverage (highest one available). One is under my spouse, the other one is just under myself. I have this specifically due to my current health and needing lots of treatment ect. I have called 6x (I exaggerate not) to BBS and have yet to get an explanation or even a same answer. I literally get "Idk, that's weird", or my favorite "Hmmm, yeah, it should but we don't know." My COB is my policy under my name is my primary and my spouse's is my secondary insurance. When I fill prescriptions, it bills me the same copays as just under one policy though. I had one policy first, and know the copays. When I added the 2nd one, the pharmacy states its being processed through both, BBC verified its being processed thru both as well, but my copay is the same exact amount as if it was just through one policy. Example $71 for a tier 3 medication. Through one policy it is $71. But when they say its submitted through both, I am still billed $71. Can some sweet soul explain this to me pretty please? I cannot get a hold of anyone at the call center that knows, and I'm spending $180 for each policy for the sole purpose to have little to no copay. [link] [comments] |
[IL] Looking for opinions on Country Financial group / Country Compaines as insurers Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:15 PM PST I have had a multi policy (auto / home) with Country Companies for about 14 years now. I am less than two years away from paying off my mortgage and I'm at the point where I need to renew my car insurance policy. I have had one small house claim over the years for ice damming and it was handled efficiently. I have had one auto policy claim 4 years ago, I hit a deer but had specific coverage for that. They ended up totaling out my car, gave me a surprisingly hefty payout- I opted to keep it and take the slightly reduced payment. I fixed my car, policy remained the same, coverage remained the same, title remained the same- I'm still driving the car. Again, that situation was handled efficiently and expediently. I just feel like the cost is above and beyond what I should be paying. But I don't want to sacrifice for service. Am I correct in thinking I should be able to expect good service from any insurer? I drive a 14 year old SUV that I own, live rural and drive only for pleasure (no commute), 40 year old female, married, only issue being the deer collision. I carry upped full coverage and it costs me about $500 every six months. House policy is roughly $1,200 a year, I think it's fair for the coverage I have, that is not the issue. Thoughts? Question about uninsured motorist coverage in Oklahoma Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:12 AM PST I am studying for the Oklahoma Property and Casualty test and I've been taking some practice tests. One of the questions was about someone with uninsured motorist coverage getting hit by someone who had the minimum but legal limits of liability insurance. However the insured damages were $20,000 over what the other driver had for liability. The test question asked how much would uninsured motorist pay and it said $20,000, how could it pay anything when the other driver legally wasn't uninsured? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:31 PM PST My girlfriend just got a job down the street, I got rid of my car and am driving hers now. Does she need to have insurance because she is the owner? Or can I just get insurance driving her car myself as primary driver and leave her off completely (she is literally never driving it anymore). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:21 PM PST I am a 28F living in Utah, US. This is a long post. Bear with me. I just don't know what to include so I'm including everything related to this issue in facing. Last year, I enrolled in the health insurance plan offered through my work. I didn't understand half the jargon and was really confused. I ended up with dental, vision and healthcare and small payments into an HSA account for 200 a month. The issue is that in September last year, I was really struggling with depression, so I went to a preferred provider through my insurance. I went and was told I don't have a copay. I shrug my shoulders and say "okay" I have to go back a few times to adjust things. And each time, no copay. But sure enough, I eventually get a bill for all my doctor's visits. And each time, my insurance paid $10 according to the bill and each visit was $140 dollars. So $150 each visit. And the insurance only paid 10 dollars. Keep in mind this is my first insurance plan ever. My family never had insurance and my ex husband had an insurance package with the sheet metal union he works for. So he handled all of that and each doctors visit was like a $25 copay and the insurance took really good care of us and we didn't pay a dime for the coverage, In confusion, I called the insurance company and asked why I had such a high bill and why did they only pay $10? I can't remember all that I was told, they did tell me I had to meet my deductible before they pay more on anything. And that deductible was $5,000 for me alone in a year and then it starts over in the new year. How in the hell, unless I am gravely injured of struck with cancer, am I going to meet a $5,000 deductible in one year? I left it alone to figure out down the road (stupid I know). In the beginning of this year, I had another outbreak of shingles. I also have a condition called PHN as a complication from shingles. I had to go into my doctor multiple times to get help for this. I ended up being prescribed Amitryptline and Gabapentin. And all these visits racked up to over 850 dollars in a few months. I didn't have the money, I tried to set up payment plans but I don't think I followed through because I just don't have money. The doctor's office turned me over to collections and then closed my chart. So when I ran out of Amitryptline, they wouldn't /couldn't send for a refill. I didn't need to make a payment, I needed to pay the entire balance in full before they could open my chart again. So, I'm cut off my Amitryptline...... I run into a doctor I work with and he sent me a refill. Told me that was completely unethical. I decided the insurance that was bleeding me dry was not worth it anymore. So I dropped it. Everything has been a lot cheaper after that. My meds were so much cheaper without insurance and using Good Rx. Just everything was cheaper. Even doctors visits were cheaper. Why is that anyway? But, my PHN has caused me to decline drastically in function. I'm in a lot of pain and am struggling both mentally and physically. I have a diagnosis of PTSD as well. I'm seeing a therapist every other week. It's 100 each visit. And my boyfriend is paying for it. Don't even know if insurance would make it cheaper. I fortunately am in contact with the doctor I work with and he seems to have a great knowledge of PHN and so he's been helping me a lot. He has given me ztildo sample patches (tons of them) he has created a much better regimen for my Gabapentin and now has added tramadol to my meds as the weather gets colder and I'm in more pain. I'm scared to get insurance solely for the purpose of my tramadol. It helps immensely and I'm able to function on it. They told me that with insurance they would have only been able to give me 7 days worth of meds at a time. But without, I can get all my pills all at once. But I know this is not an ideal situation, I need to be able to see this doctor as a legit patient. And I know I need to be in therapy weekly. I also have been thinking I might need to go to a specialist for my PHN to see what all my options are. This condition is most likely permanent as I've had it for over three years. Living with PHN is extremely depressing and I am in need of better access to mental health help. My boyfriend really wants me to start shopping for insurance. I have no idea where to look without my phone number being turned over and my phone being blown up day and night with calls and texts from different insurance reps. I don't know how to prevent being cheated out of a lot of money. I don't know how to pick a plan that would pay more on visits and be more helpful and meet my needs. I just am beyond lost and not sure where to look or what to avoid. Someone please help me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:20 PM PST Hello all. My car was stolen on Thursday, and then recovered Thursday night and placed in an impound. I let my insurance company (USAA) know that it was in the impound, but due to it having a flat tire(s) it would need to be towed. I went down to the impound to release it to USAA so they could tow it. USAA told me they would be towing it to one of their mechanics. So my question I guess is once they have towed it to their mechanics, how long will it be before they make a decision on if the car is a total loss or not? To offer some insight on damages from what I saw, the car was wrecked which caused the flat tire, damage to the side of the body, and a broken side mirror. Internal damage from what I could see included a cut steering wheel (I had a club on it), damage to the ignition, and I'm not sure how the motor is doing. I'm without transportation, and am not old enough to have a rental car. I've never been in a situation like this and I am just wondering how long this process is going to take. As well, it is reported to be one of the most stolen cars, so if they don't deem it a total loss, am I able to say that I don't want it back due to the fact that this may happen again, or do I have to take it back once they have fixed it? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Need advice on hitting a deer in car Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:20 AM PST Driving my car to military drill Sunday morning in Oklahoma and hit a deer. I have the strike on dash cam and pictures of the damage. Front end of car is trashed but the vehicle is still drivable and I don't think any damage besides cosmetic. Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:33 AM PST We had a storm on Halloween a few days ago. while eating dinner we noticed a big 'noise'. Upon investigating we noticed 2 ft of brown yard water all over our basement. The water was coming up to the electric outlets so I didn't go into the water but the walkout basement door was shattered and off the frame. We thought it was a robbery attempt as we were out for Halloween. We called #911 to be precautious. We were unable to conclude one way or the other since the brown water was covering all belonging in the basement. I checked my backyard after we were done with the cop and noticed the whole yard was covered with knee-deep of water. The drain for the back yard is in my neighbor's yard so I asked him for access and help to clear any clog. We were waist-deep in water. We used shovels to unclog the drain it was covered with small branches and mud and any leaves due to the storm. The water started to subside thereafter. I called the insurance to start a claim as the house was exposed on the back due to the shattered door. I also checked my insurance and it states no water/flood damage is covered. I don't know what my options are. I have been in this house for 7 years and have never had this issue. My neighbor stores the cut branches around the drain which caused it to clog up causing all the damage. I can chat with him about not doing it in the future but I am trying to understand how I can get this covered in some form as everything in the basement (main area, bedroom, bathroom, and utility room) had 2 ft for water damage. All my kid's toys, electronics, furniture, carpet, drywall, fridge, dishwasher, etc were affected. Adjuster still needs to be assigned to come onsite to take a look at the overall damage and accept/deny the claim. I am trying to use the power of Reddit to understand if anyone was in a similar situation and it ended in a more positive way. Also if there are any tips on communicating with the adjuster. Are there any legal actions I can take to claim it from my neighbor's insurance? I can also post the policy snip it if needed here. tl;dr: Storm and/or breaking caused flooding in my basement. The flooding was due to a clogged drain due to how my neighbor stores branches close to the drain. Any opinion and/or advice on how to approach it from a claims perspective with the adjuster. And any other option in terms of a rebuild if its on self-pay. [link] [comments] |
Who is offering non-owner car insurance in Washington state? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:28 AM PST Who is actually offering non-owner insurance in Washington state? All calculators online I tried require me to enter a car for a quote. I just got a license a few months back and wanted to drive rentals for a while to figure out what I want. I am under impression that I need an insurance for my completely unexperienced ass. [link] [comments] |
