Out of network, unexpected large bill for insulin pump supplies Posted: 08 Nov 2019 02:08 PM PST I am a type one diabetic on a pump. I work from home in Illinois and had moved briefly to Texas between July and September of this year. My work was aware and had me change my address with HR who then notified my health insurance. HR told me there was no change in my health insurance and I had the same plan/member ID while in Texas. While I was living in Texas, the insulin pump company put me on some sort of auto-ship program and sent me 6 months of supplies out of nowhere. I didn't think anything of it. Then the company calls a month later and says that my health insurance is saying they are out of network because I moved to Texas and that I need to go through some other company in Texas when reordering. Today, I received a $1300 bill from the insulin pump company for the 6 months of supplies they sent which my health insurance denied as out of network. I am not sure what to do here - is there a way to appeal with the health insurance or is that a waste of time? Should I just work with the pump company to see if they will reduce the bill or do a payment plan? What's the appropriate recourse here? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2019 12:20 AM PST I(23) in the car with my brother(17) practicing his driving. He has no license and while making a left turn we got hit from behind in the lane he was turning into. It was a light hit with only paint transfer occurring to the front right of the bumper of the car who hit us and to the left side of my bumper. He's not under the insurance but I am. We got out and the lady asked for insurance I showed her mine with my license she didn't give me hers. She claimed no turn signal was used when I know for a fact it was. She took a picture of my license and insurance. After a little back and forth she decided that no insurance was needed and deleted my information and we agreed to go about our night . I'm not too worried about the damage because it was just paint transfer but I'm curious as to what would happen if she were to file a claim as I don't get her information, she hit us from behind but my brother is unlicensed. Any help is appreciated [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 11:42 PM PST So my current insurer has always offered me Automatic Salvage on loss since day one, they used to exclusively do rare, enthusiast cars,so this made a lot of sense. Since then they've opened up to more general insurance, I've changed cars and stuff, bit as a customer for 10 years, the deal is pretty damn good, and all my policies still have auto salvage. Keeping in mind this is a case of "Car is fucked, here you go, we'll drop it off at your place for the cost of the tow", I don't have to "Buy the car back", they settle the payment and I still keep the wreck at no cost. However just to compare,I did a ring around, seems that even salvage as an option is not all that common, at least not in Australia. It's essentially a case of them just taking your car, handing you cash, and Robert's your father's brother. Does your insurer offer salvage, either automatic or negotiated? [link] [comments] |

[NY] college student on Medicaid, need dental work done but Medicaid wont cover jack Posted: 09 Nov 2019 01:11 AM PST I have a molar that has a large cavity around a silver filling. The entire back of the tooth is gone but it doesn't hurt. I've been to my general dentist and 3 endodontists, it's either a root canal or an extraction. Here's the issue, i'm 23, and NYS Medicaid wont cover a root canal or even an extraction unless medically necessary or needed for a denture or bridge. I can't afford to have this done so i'm backed into a corner about what to do. I've looked into getting a dental plan separately but apparently that doesnt exist? I don't make enough to get off medicaid and I can't buy a separate dental plan to cover what medicaid wont? What do I do? [link] [comments] |
What would you recommend I do if I need a P&C license by December 3rd? Posted: 08 Nov 2019 08:34 PM PST I have a few weeks to study for the Property & Casualty exams at Pearson VUE. I've got no real prior knowledge of...well, anything. I mean I can follow along when people are talking about liability and policyholders and 'risk' but then when I read the handbook and it links me to what I should actually study, I'm pretty flabbergasted because a lot of more complex topics are over my head at the moment (I've worked in an insurance office a total of 8 hours so far mostly training in how to take calls, I probably won't get hired past this probation period if I am not able to help customers with more than just taking messages, but I like the job and want to try.) http://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/har/ http://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/hrs/ Is this the best source to study due to it being the most technical & up to date, or am I better off finding a book at a Barnes & Noble or something? (I've heard "Exam Cram" is recommended, not sure if it's mostly the same thing, or if it is a bit less...intimidating) I'm also considering paying for online help, I've heard good things about Exam FX. But it's kind of hard for me to stomach spending a few hundred dollars on a course when I'm also paying for the exams and they're only offering me 20 hours a week. I like the job, the people, and I do want to educate myself more, and if I had like, 6 months, I'd be much more comfortable buying one of these courses, but I'm really hoping I can drop $30 on a book that is designed for this exact situation and thrive. But I'd love to hear people's thoughts on whether I can do it if I apply myself or whether I'm basically screwed :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 06:58 PM PST So I'm the owner of a vehicle that is under my insurance policy but I let my daughter drive. She has been charged with a DUI 2 years ago so I knew the risks with her driving. Anyways now she lent the car to somebody and he has a clean license but not insurance, he was involved in an accident that's looking like he was at fault. Now geico has contacted me saying a claim was filed and idk exactly what to tell them. If I say I lent the car to my daughter who doesn't have that special insurance and she let the other guy borrow it am I in trouble? Will they go after me for letting her use it? If I say I let the guy use it and then he turns around and says he borrowed it from my daughter does this cause another issue? I want to know the best way to go about this without a major lie like saying he stole the car or whatever. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Anyone here a car insurance agent I have a few questions... Posted: 08 Nov 2019 02:24 PM PST Went to go get my car inspected the other day and to my surprise he asked "what did you hit on your front end" the only thing I could think of was an incident a few months ago where a woman hit my car at a rest stop gas station off the highway. I was actually in the bathroom at the time but my boyfriend and toddler were in the car and I was walking out as they were talking. There was no visible damage except the grill but she gave me her number anyway which I have since lost it. Okay back to present day - I told the shop inspecting my car this and he said it's more than just the grill they can't open the hood, something about the my drivers side headlight and the grill. Oh and my airbag light is mysterious on. He told me it could be thousands and I need to see an auto body shop before it's inspected. I told him the story of what happened and he said call my insurance and say it was a hit and run and say it was an area without cameras. This is what I don't understand fully why not tell the truth? Next day I go to auto body shop and tell them the story without saying what the shop prior suggested about semi lying about the story and told me the same thing. Just say you got out of "insert place without cameras here" and found your car like this. They basically both suggest that I act like it happened recently instead of a few months ago, act like it wasn't at the rest stop and somewhere else without cameras because obviously a state highway test area right at the gas station does have cameras. It makes it seem like I won't be covered by insurance if I don't fib this a bit but why? I haven't really had to deal much with insurance or car insurance but someone did hit me probably on camera so what's the issue? I've actually been putting off calling my insurance and going though with the repairs because this is stressing me out. Is it because it was a few (2-3) months ago and I did nothing originally? My boyfriend said it was just the grill and we can pop it in and replace it easy so being the idiot I am I decided not to deal with it at the time. If it matters the repairs are estimated at around 1200and my deductible is about 500. So either 700 out of pocket or 700 I cover myself. What do I do? I don't really want to roll the dice here and have to pay for this myself simply because I didn't report or deal with it right away, I mean I still pay 200 bucks every month for insurance so I would be livid what am I paying them for then? But at the same time I don't want to get caught in insurance fraud. Also will my insurance go up in either scenario? Input from an expert would be great! [link] [comments] |
Occasional Driver coverage question. Posted: 08 Nov 2019 09:30 PM PST First, I live in MN and I have State Farm insurance. OK, I"m a widower and I still have two vehicles. I occasionally let my brother or the daughter that lives locally borrow it (including letting son-in-law drive it) when they have to have a vehicle in the shop for a few days. I think the longest time was about 10 days, but with that exception it's something like 1 - 4 days, maybe 2 - 3 times a year. In addition, if daughter and family from the next state over, or my out-of-states relatives are visiting for a few days, I'll let them borrow one of the cars if they want to go someplace and the spouse to another. Again, this is normally only 4 - 6 times a year. So, my question is, is there a problem with letting them use one of my cars? Do I need any kind of special coverage for this? I am assuming my normal coverage will apply if I'm temporarily giving permission to use one of my cars, but maybe there's something I'm overlooking. PS As far as I know, everyone I give permission to has good driving records, they all keep the same cars for several years and none of their vehicles have any kind of obvious damage. Posted: 08 Nov 2019 01:20 PM PST I had a mammogram done that day and nothing else. But i have two separate bills. One for the mammograms. One for this ultrasound. It makes it especially bitter because IF they HAD done that ultrasound, they might have caught my cancer at Stage 1 instead of Stage 3 which is where it's at now. 8 months later. [link] [comments] |

If I buy a Car for my mother would the title go under my name or hers? Posted: 08 Nov 2019 07:03 PM PST Title. She would be the one insuring and driving the car. I currently have 1 car in my name under Geico. Her existing car is currently insured but got repossessed. [link] [comments] |
Did I get my identity stolen while talking to an “insurance agent”? Posted: 08 Nov 2019 02:44 PM PST I was on healthcare.gov, and I put my number in. A couple of companies called me immediately afterwards claiming that they can connect me to an insurance agent. The agent really sold me this good plan. He asked for my social security and then credit card (to go forth with the application?) I felt uneasy so he put me on lookupinsurancedagents ga (oci.ga.gov) and then showed me his agent license number. I still don't understand why my credit card number is necessary, so I feel uneasy. Is this process normal when people get insurance through an agent or did I just get my identity possibly stolen? [link] [comments] |
Auto vs. Medical Insurance Dilemma Posted: 08 Nov 2019 10:31 AM PST My wife recently slammed her hand in a car door. Nothing too serious aside from a broken finger tip, but it did require a trip to the ER. We've since been told that we must first file through our auto insurance since it was a car-related accident before filing through our normal health insurance. My fear is that if we do this, we'll be stuck with a much higher deductible ($500) vs. a standard ER deductible associated with our health insurance ($50). Is my fear justified? Or would my auto insurance work with my health insurance to make sure we have the same deductible to pay for going to the ER? I suspect every insurance company, hospital, and state laws (we're in Florida) are different, but I'd appreciate any insight anyone could provide who has dealt with a situation like this. I know this would be completely unethical, but I do wonder what would happen if we simply changed our story and said my wife slammed her hand in a door in our house instead of our car. It would seem silly for the hospital to then say we had to file a claim through our home insurance first, but this would be a similar type of logical position on their end. Once again, any advice or recommendations you could provide would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Homeowners Insurance for Trust - How Written Posted: 08 Nov 2019 09:27 AM PST Our family has a piece of property in an irrevocable trust. The grantor is on the deed with "reservation of life estate" but the property is owned by an irrevocable trust. How should the insurance be held -- by who and who should be the covered individuals and entities. Currently the grantor pays the insurance and they and their living trust are listed as covered. The irrevocable trust that owns the property, the trustee, and the beneficiaries of the trust are not listed. Also how does this all integrate with the umbrella policies held separately by the grantor, the trustee, and the beneficiaries. We or most of us all use the same insurance company. Thoughts? EDIT: The insurance company is State Farm if that matters. The property and the Grantor are in the same state. The other parties, one in same state, one in different state. [link] [comments] |
Question about black boxes in cars Posted: 08 Nov 2019 04:09 PM PST So, let's do this. I'm from Northern Ireland, we have 'R Plates' for a year once we pass our driving tests, which basically just restrict us from being able to drive over 45mph. I also have a black box in my car, telematics, that monitors how i drive. My question is, when I come off the 'r plates' am I able to drive at the national speed limit automatically, or do i have to go remind my insurance that I'm a none restricted driver now? Question about Insurance Claim vs Paying out of Pocket Posted: 08 Nov 2019 03:59 PM PST Hi everyone! Just had a quick question, hopefully it's appropriate and within the correct subreddit. Last night I rear ended someone, was following waaaay too close for the weather and road conditions and ultimately paid the price for it. All and well, learning experience- my first accident. Thankfully no one was hurt. Regardless of the repair cost- I'm going to pay out of pocket for the repair. Whether it goes through insurance or I give him money- but here's my question. There wasn't any extreme damage, I love tapped the vehicle. How does a claim work? He's choosing to get repairs done at a dealership, with that being said- obviously if the dealership is trying to make money they will tell him to replace the entire bumper as opposed to let's say just repairing it. Can I dispute this in any way? Should I let my insurance dispute it and then just pay them out afterwards? I'm a new driver and have money in the bank in the case of accidents, I understand insurance is what accidents are for but I'd much rather pay out of pocket. I'm from Edmonton, Alberta for reference. All states and provinces are different, but what would you guys do? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

CA: How much will my premium increase for an at-fault parking accident? Should I just pay cash? Posted: 08 Nov 2019 03:12 PM PST The damage is very minimal and only includes the mirror/enclosure. We exchanged insurance information but talked about settling in cash instead after the fact. He says he has not contacted his insurance and would give me an estimate later. The quote wasn't bad, between $500-1000, but he has indicated that it could be more once the repairs begin as there could be damage inside the door. I've asked family and friends who have worked on cars in shops and they say that the chances of further, deeper damage based on the photos are practically zero, though I'm worried they'll "find" something, anyways. No police report was filed and I have not contacted my insurance as I would really prefer to pay and put this behind me without my rates increasing, but I'm extremely nervous that he'll:
Questions: Is there a way I could pay him in cash and not be liable for future "damage"? Would him signing something agreeing that we're settled after that payment work? Is having an at-fault accident on my record worth not taking a chance on thus guy? Has anyone else been in a similar situation and had their premiums increase? How much did it go up? I read that rates can go up $600 per year after something like this. Has anyone been screwed by the person not at-fault in this situation before? Thanks for all your advice! [link] [comments] |
I need help/advice with an insurance situation. Posted: 08 Nov 2019 05:49 AM PST I live in South Carolina. My boyfriend lives with me, and one time his car broke down so I let him borrow mine to get to an out of town job. A deer ran out in front of him on the way home and, long story short, my car was totaled. This was in January of 2019. So I get a new car (which he has not driven at all) and my insurance (Allstate) wanted to add him to my policy, so I did that. Then, he had trouble finding work, got behind on his child support, and his license got suspended for it. So I got a letter in the mail yesterday saying when my policy is up in December it won't be renewed and they're dropping me because of the suspension. I'm an excellent driver with excellent credit and I've been with the company for 12 years with home and auto. I don't know what to do. Who can I get insurance through? Thank you for any advice! Using Professional Malpractice Insurance Posted: 08 Nov 2019 02:10 PM PST State: CA Looking for general guidance and understand there are situational considerations that may impact actual outcome. Will my parents be notified if I get tested under there insurance? Posted: 08 Nov 2019 11:48 AM PST I want to go get tested, but I'm under my parents insurance. Does potential litigation influence rates? Posted: 08 Nov 2019 07:06 AM PST So im from louisiana and our auto insurance rates are rather unpleasant. Right now we're having elections and one of the hot topics this year is our insurance rates. Is the potential litigation really that much of a factor? Would other influences such as major weather events or just horribly drivers in general be a bigger cause or is litigation really that prevalent in the pricing? [link] [comments] |
