Neighbor is refusing to give insurance for a dog bite.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:33 PM PDT

    Hello,

3 weeks ago my husband, children, and I were unloading groceries from our car. Because of this our front door was open. All of a sudden my husband and I see 3 dogs from the street run into my house. I ran in after them, but wasn't fast enough to stop 1 of the dogs from attacking my cat. When I tried to intervene the dog bit my hand in a few places. My husband was able to hit the dog enough for it to release my hand and my cat. The dogs then ran out of my house and another of the dogs attacked my neighbors dog. I went to urgent care, got a shot and antibiotics. I did not need stitches. My cat is alive, but has a bad limp. The vet said her body is badly bruised, but she should heal. The cat is also on anxiety medication because she refuses to leave from under my bed.

When I contacted my neighbor, who owns the dogs, she said she is 23 and does not have home owners insurance. It is my belief that she lives at home with her parents, so I assume that her parents must have the policy in their name. She is refusing to give me any information. I want to write a demand letter asking for the home insurance company name and policy number and then send the letter certified mail. My question is, what should I say in the letter? I want to be careful in my wording and make sure I include the necessary information. My goal is to settle this through insurance so both parties can avoid small claims court. I live in Northern California.

    Supplemental Dental Insurance?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:54 PM PDT

    Hello!

I am currently on a MetLife PPO plan through my employer, however insurance maximum for the year is $1500 and I need work done that exceeds that limit. Without some additional insurance, the work I need will need to happen over several years.

Does anyone have experience using supplemental dental insurance? If so, does anyone have any resource recommendations or experiences with particular providers?

    Thank you!

    Mistaken Salvage Title?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:30 PM PDT

Three years ago I was in an accident. I filed a claim and took my car in for repairs which totaled $7,000. I don't know exactly what my car was worth but I would guess $15,000 to $18,000 (2013 Subaru Outback, accident took place in 2016). Insurance paid everything and I moved in with my life.

I am now looking at trading in my car and learned that it has a salvage title and is worth very little. Can anyone explain to me how salvage titles are issued? I thought the cost to repair the vehicle needed to be higher than the value of the vehicle. Are there other ways to become a salvage title that I am missing that could have occurred in my scenario? or is this a mistake? Is there anything I can do if it is a mistake?

Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

Insurance for a temp import to US/Canada

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:03 PM PDT

    Hi,

I would like to ship my car from Europe to the US or Canada/Both if possible and have come across a hurdle with insurance. I cannot get any local insurance companies to insure me in North America (Estonian Insurance).

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions or ideas of an insurance company that would cover a none-standard US import that will leave the country before 12 months.

    Thanks.

Paying more in insurance a month than my car payment

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:50 AM PDT

My wife (F24) and I (M23) live in southeast michigan. I drive an old beater truck and the insurance is like $300 a year, the truck isn't worth having any better insurance on it, I'd be lucky to get $1k if I sold it now.

My wife on the other hand, is driving a 2019 GMC Terrain which we financed. Minimum full coverage for her car is $400 a month for a yearly amount just over 8k. This seems absurd to me, and I wanted to know if we're being shafted, or if because of age we genuinely aren't going to find any better. For reference we have no tickets, and have never made an insurance claim of any kind. Good credit as well

    UberEats Insurance Woes

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:18 PM PDT

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate sub-reddit for this, but I'm at the end of my rope and really don't know where else to turn for any advice.

So, the story goes is, I signed up as a Driver for UberEats, but didn't inform my insurance company. I never imagined I needed to, and I did do research. I combed over the UberEats website, and they mentioned that Uber provides their own insurance while the app is running, so that seemed like the commercial side of things were covered. On top of that, I directly contacted my insurance company asking for information if I were to drive for UberEats. The agent I was in contact with gave me some long story, asked me a bunch of questions and kept mentioned ride-share insurance and policies covering passengers. I had informed him what felt like dozens of times that I was not delivering passengers. At the end of it, he gave me a quote for a Ride-Share Insurance that needed about 1000 (!!!) dollar down payment. Suffice to say, I told him thank you for his time and ended the conversation. The agent could only go on and on about ride-share and passengers, even when I told him multiple times that is definitely not what I am doing and is not relevant to my situation. If I had just been told in plain language "This Insurance will not cover UberEats and will void your policy if you do not explicitly insure with us for that". But I never was, even when I was explicitly asking the agent for that answer, so I thought I was all good.

Cue about a month later, I've been driving UberEats. When trying to get our policy renewed, the insurance informs us that they've removed our car from the insurance (with out informing us as well) because I've been driving UberEats (don't even know how they found out, I only said I was considering it), and will not re-instate the insurance.

What do I do? What are my rights? Am I just doomed? For the record, the insurance is under my fathers name, he's the one who maintains it, and wasn't aware I was doing UberEats. I'm just one of the approved drivers.

Best way to find cheapest auto insurance for me?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:09 PM PDT

So I'm 19 and a full time college student and I'm dependent on myself completely. How do I find the cheapest auto insurance for me? Should I talk to an insurance agent? If so, how do I choose the insurance agent? And is it free? Or do I just do a bunch of quotes and compare them all? I want to choose the cheapest possible option as I can't afford much. I live in California by the way.

Newbie Question regarding a fender bender

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:54 PM PDT

Hello! So a few days ago I was at a stop sign and someone hit my German Car from behind. It was not a light hit and it wasn't strong either. Just firm. At that time I did not see many scratches or dents since it was raining and my car is black.

Got his insurance information and decided not to file a claim but I just saw some scratches and a few dents- not major or anything. But I'm particular about my car so I called in the claim.

Now I don't want to look like a bad guy or someone who is petty to call in a fender bender for minor scratches and dents.

    Now my question is:

I have filed a claim but if I don't take my car for repairs or estimated damage, will they automatically cancel the claim? And will it still affect the drivers insurance premium if I don't take any further action?

I don't want their insurance premium to go up because of me calling in a fender bender. I have read online that you should call in and report to insurance regardless of the extent of damage.

I am just thinking of not taking the car to the repair shop now, since I am feeling bad for the other driver. What will be the result of me not taking car to shop? Will it still be a claim that will be on the record?

Thank you!! PS I know I'm a bit of a softie when it comes to little things like this lol

P.S I never experienced such before as I'm a young adult

I crashed while delivering pizza. What should I do?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 11:05 AM PDT

So I was on my last delivery of the day, on a windy country road and couldn't see the stop sign. I flew right through the stop sign, It was at a "T" intersection (going onto the main road where traffic comes from both ways), and flew past the road into the ditch/hill on the road side. Luckily no one saw, and nobody got hurt, no other cars or people involved. Im fine, and my car was still able to be turned on, steer, and change gears. I moved it off the hill and the lady that owned the property said i could park it in her driveway so i didn't have to call the cops. All that happened to my car that I know of is a broken front bumper, broken right headlight, and probably a few broken things under the hood. I called my insurance and he never asked if i was on the job nor ask where I was going or doing. He said im covered, but i feel guilty and i had to give my Claim Number to my work. Will that be sent to my insurance? Located in Virginia

Tree fell on rental [NC, US]

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 11:24 AM PDT

A storm came through and a large tree, that is rooted a foot or so past my property line, fell on one unit in a duplex. There are several holes in a new roof but walls seem in tact, some cracked roof decking, some water damage to the ceiling amount other things.

I've called my insurance and started a claim. My property is surrounded on two sides by an L shaped lot. The home on this neighboring lot is a very old single wide on one leg of the L. The tree was on the other leg which is all a wooded ivy area.

I wasn't aware the tree was rotted, nor would the other owner have been. Now I can see I missed signs that it was, but since I don't live here or visit often I didn't see it.

The tree guy says if the ins co finds out it was rotted inside, they will deny it. I also read other comments that tree liability is tricky and unlikely to be paid for by the neighbors ins, if they even have ins. The tree has been removed and the stump ground, but the adjuster isn't coming for a few more days. It cost almost $3k due to its precarious position and I paid for that upon completion.

There are also other trees on the lot that could pose problems in the future as the are covered in ivy.

Is this accurate about the denial? I haven't said anything about the tree being over the property line nor it being rotted to the ins co yet.

If my parents and I go in on a car together, can it go under their insurance policy?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:20 PM PDT

I need to buy a car to practice in, as I have my driver's permit. My parents aren't cool with me using their vehicle, and I don't know many friends who would be willing to let me drive with them. I do not live with my parents. If I were to get a loan for a vehicle, and my parents were to chip in and go on the title as secondary owners, and it were to be parked at their house 99% of the time anyway (I would only ever really drive with them), would they be able to put their insurance on it? And add me as a driver on their policy?

The issue here is just that nobody will insure me if I don't have a license. However, due to this unique situation, I'm just trying to figure out how to get my practice in so I can take my driver's license test.

    No fault car accident CA

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 10:58 AM PDT

So in August I was rear-ended. I was found to be 0% at fault by my inurance AAA and told that everything would be taken care of. The total of the damages was 7,800 dollars roughly. After getting my car fixed I received a call from the insurance of the guy who hit me Viking insurance who told me that I'd be receiving a release form in the mail and to sign it.

In the release form I would be agreeing to receiving only 5,000 instead of the full amount. I called my insurance and they told me that I shouldn't sign anything and shouldn't have to sign anything. So I threw it away after being told not to sign it

Fast forward to this week. I get another call from Viking urging me to sign the release form again and that they already received the release form from my insurance, they're just waiting for mine. At this point any phone calls I've been making haven't been answered or returned. I can't get a hold of anyone, working my claims and have left several messages. I was able to get a hold of someone who wasn't working my claim and they said they would email me another another slip and that they did sign the release form for 5,000, but I haven't received that email and I haven't been able to get a hold of her since then. What's with this radio silence from both parties? If it's so urgent why haven't they returned any of my calls or tried to reach out to me again?

I have a bunch of questions for them too, like since they weren't able to get the full 7,800 from Viking are they going to have me pay the remaining balance or jack my rates up? It doesn't help that I haven't been able to speak with any of the agents working the claim. I also need another form. I can't sign anything until I receive it.

    Minimum Car Insurance?

At-fault fender-bender, first time; should I expect a rate increase? (California, Geico, $430 mirror repair)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:40 PM PDT

I accidentally hit a parked car's driver side mirror with my passenger mirror last week. Went around to nearby houses until I found the owner's daughter, and left my contact info. He just got back to me and quoted the repair at around $430.

Should I expect a rate increase for something like this? My driving record is spotless, and I've been with Geico for a long time now.

Car insurance California-auto renew vs cancel

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:34 PM PDT

So I am currently insured on my '17 Kia forte with Geico. This policy that I'm on ends Dec. 1/19. I do not have auto payments enabled. I recently received the terms for the policy for Dec.1/19-Jun.1/20 and it's around $1100. Now I was in an at-fault accident so I get it, I'm riskier blah blah blah. I do not want to cancel my current policy with geico, which is Jun.1/19-Dec.1/19 and it's like $350.

I shopped around and now I'm gonna go with progressive for $613 Dec.1/19-Jun.1/20, if I don't call/write a letter about not renewing my policy will geico automatically renew me? Thus charging me?

Damage costs greater than property damage limit of driver who rear ended me

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:04 PM PDT

I currently reside in Silicon Valley, CA and my Mazda3 was rear ended in Bay Area. I have insurance with Geico and have collision coverage but I do not wish to involve them so as to not increase my premium for no fault of my own. The other party that rear-ended me has auto insurance with Progressive and they have $5000 limit of property damage. The other party accepted their fault and Progressive was agreed to pay me $5000 for my damages. Progressive wants to give me a check of $5000. However, they are not going to deal with the body shop. Is there any way for me to have Progressive pay the body shop instead if handing me a check? They have estimated my costs to be around $4500. My question is what are my options if the actual repair costs more than $5000? Can I pursue my case in a small claims court to have the other party pay up for the extra cost above $5000?

Experienced Agents: How important (or unimportant) is an "uncapped" dwelling limit policy in a high fire risk area? I'm talking wildfire area...

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:44 PM PDT

Some carriers carry hard limits of x hundred thousand. Others offer something like 25% over. Others are "uncapped." Most of the telephone (read: they sound inexperienced) agents I am dealing with on the 800 lines don't even know what I am talking about when I bring distinctions like this up.

It seems to me that if there were to be a major disaster in a wildfire area that the cost to rebuild could be MUCH higher than normal. Experienced agents only please. How important is an uncapped dwelling limit coverage to a homeowner. Or am I just over worrying about this as usual. Thanks!

[WA State] I might be over covering with my auto insurance. How can I bring it down.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:38 PM PDT

WA State DOL says "$25,000 1 person, $50,000 2 person, $10,000 damages" as the minimum of coverage.

I'm currently paying for $100,000 per person bodily, $300,000 damages per accident.

It would lower my cost considerably to bring those numbers down. Would it be worth it, or will an accident screw me out of pocket? Can I bring those down and still be in compliance with law?

Drywall fell on car in apartment garage - insurance says I need to get it fixed and can't just take a check

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 02:24 PM PDT

I woke up this morning to drywall on the roof of my car (https://imgur.com/ld8y4rF). It fell due to a leaking pipe in the ceiling. I went to the dealer, they detailed it and found that the front hood, right front fender and chrome grill were scratched. The hood it pretty badly scratched https://imgur.com/K35V9Is.

I live in California, have Geico insurance with a $500 comprehensive deductible (I also have home insurance with Lemonade with a $250 deductible). I spoke with Geico and filed a claim. They scheduled an appointment with a body shop for Tuesday morning. I have the following questions:

    1. I asked the agent and they said I could not just take a check for the repair amount and not fix the car. Is this true? Do I have to pay my deductible and get it fixed to be reimbursed for the damage?
    2. Is my landlord liable? Should I try to get him to pay my deductible or the full amount?
    3. Should I go to the auto body shop the insurance agent pushed on me or reschedule at another autoshop?
    4. How much is this likely to cost me?

    Thanks for the advice!

    Parking lot accident (WA)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 12:09 PM PDT

Someone backed into me while they were pulling out of a parking spot. I was moving, slowly, because it was a busy lot. I was in the thru lane, leaving the lot. My vehicle sustained a small crack in the left front bumper. I honestly couldn't see any damage on their vehicle — maybe a small scuff. Based on what I've read, I had the right of way being in the thru lane, and the party backing out of the spot is at fault. They do not believe they are at fault. What should I do from here?

Any Ideas on How to Insure This? I'm lost...

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 11:36 AM PDT

Hello everyone... This is my first walk down insurance lane, so I have a lot to learn. But after looking for options, I'm still lost on who I should be trying to contact... Any help or direction appreciated!

    Overview:

My company would like to rent a vehicle to our clients (international, aged 21-35) for about 80 days. The vehicle will be used for tourism purposes, mainly visiting national parks. The vehicle will occasionally go on un-paved roads to reach the start of a hiking trail. We would like the drivers/passengers of the vehicle to be covered by an auto insurance policy.

    Examples:

Basically it is something similar to the insurance rental car companies give out. This business already operates in a smiliar fashion, so I'm sure it is possible: https://www.escapecampervans.com/

    Any ideas?
