Okay here we go. I live in Denver. I've been truck driving for two and a half years. My last company was with the Harlem Globetrotters. I have an up to date CDL, Med Card, everything. I also have a super clean record with no trouble with law enforcement ever. I'm a Navy Veteran with an honorable discharge.

I posted a Craigslist ad a few months back for CDL work under Resumes. I basically was offering to be a "pull away" driver in case a company has problems such as a driver abandoning their truck. I got such a call on October 23rd early in the morning from a Houston TX number from a company owner desperately seeking a CDL driver after his driver quit. The truck was located in Cheyenne, WY needing to get to Tacoma, WA with a 40 foot trailer already loaded. I accepted the job and drove to Cheyenne in my own vehicle with the promise I would be paid for my fuel too. I got there, found the truck with the keys located as described by the owner and after a few pictures due to some trailer damage I was on my way. The company card was removed by the last driver and a photo was sent to me of the card to manually enter at truck stops which happens often. The following is a list of stops I made (with copies of all fuel receipts, and copies of all BOL's)

-Cheyenne to Tacoma (delivery) -Tacoma to Tacoma (pick up Skid loader) -Tacoma to Bremerton (p/u 2nd skid loader) -weekend stay in Washington (Saw friends and family) -Washington to Boise Idaho Monday Morning delivery (Drop off two skid loaders) -Boise to Salt Lake City (Load pick up cancelled) -Salt Lake City to Houston to drop off truck, receive payment and flight to Cheyenne.

    Unfortunately, the last part went-

-Salt Lake to Monticello, UT (Ran out fuel no place would accept manual entries. Comdata check sent the following morning Tuesday the 29th $70 worth of fuel and I was off to the next Pilot for more fuel. -Monticello to Gallup, NM stopped at Pilot card didn't work again owner sent me several different company cards that never worked. Stopped for the night and fell asleep in the back. -1:30AM pounding at the door. NM State Trooper takes me out at Gunpoint. Searches me. Takes me to his station and then I'm incarcerated in the McKinley County Correctional Facility from 2:30am until Halloween evening at 10pm. -Bonded out by parents court date soon with hopeful drop of charges.

I gave my Dad the number to the company I was working for and after several calls while I was in jail the owner would not release the money I made with him to my parents to post my bail. He also wouldn't post my bail nor would he contact the NM state troopers to inform them of the situation, nor would the other company (the truck I was driving). Now that I'm out he still hasn't made contact with me and he hasn't paid me. If all goes well charges will be completely dropped against me, but I unfortunately have super anxiety now after being incarcerated. I can't sleep because I keep seeing the wall I was next to on my mat I was given.

Do you think an employment lawyer would be a good person to speak with after all of this mess I've been through?

"Guy living in my shed" Part 2. Tried to take your advice, but it was too late. The cops said it was my word against his and I'm gonna have to evict him.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 11:29 PM PDT

I'm a bit flustered and angry right now, because I just got done being grilled by some douchebag power-hungry deputy (a real "Sheriff Lamb" type) who acted like I was the troublemaker here, saying he didn't believe my story and nitpicking every little word choice that might have been slightly incongruous from whatever word choice he might have thought I made before (there were multiple times in the discussion when he claimed I said things that I'm fairly certain I didn't say). But the short version is, I told the guy in the shed that he was no longer permitted to stay here and if he didn't leave, I would report him for trespassing. He didn't leave, so I called it in. The first time the deputy came, he just happened to not be there anymore. He came back later, so I called again. This time he faced them head on, went out to meet them and told them a bunch of bullshit (with just enough truth mixed in) to make it sound like he was a proper tenant.

I had previously called the sheriff's office and talked to people on the phone about this situation, and apparently their statements are utterly worthless, because one of them told me "shed guy" would have to stay two weeks before tenancy was established, and another said that if he told the deputies he was paying rent and I said he wasn't, then he would have to take me to court for the right to live here. But then when the deputies came, they said pretty much the exact opposite of everything anyone in the sheriff's office told me (apparently, I was just speaking to dispatchers, not deputies), and said that if it was my word against his, that I would have to go through the formal eviction process.

So, now that it's too late to do it right the first time, I'd like to get an early jump on doing it the right way for this next phase. Because, if I don't do this right, he's probably just gonna be living here forever.

    Location is Florida.

New dentist just off her residency gave me a faulty filling that left me with more pain than the cavity, now they are charging me to fix her mistake.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 03:39 AM PDT

    USA.

I went to a new dentist for a cavity that had really begun to bother me. I was relieved to get it finally taken care of but while I was in the chair I started to get a bad feeling. The dentist seemed very unsure of herself and there were multiple times I felt sharp pains even though they had applied topical and Novocaine. She finishes and my tongue is numb so I pay for the visit and leave. When I regained feeling I find lumps and sharp spots all around the areas, just basically a really uneven surface. I begun to cut my tongue on it pretty regularly and the pain in my jaw and head has not gone away, in fact it's worse than before.

I call to get it fixed and get the same doctor I figure benefit of the doubt and she goes in. She is defensive saying the filling is fine. A few minutes later she realized my gums are being agitated by the extra bonding agent that is jammed against my gums in between the teeth. She proceeds to no warning, break through the bonding agent with a piece of floss then rip it back out leaving my teeth feeling like they were being pushed apart by each other in a really unnatural way. I just GTFO of there at this point with my gums bleeding. The hygienist blocks the front desk and tells me I am all set when I go to check out so I assume they are fixing their mistake at their own cost and leave.

Over the next couple weeks the pain does not leave and I am still cutting my tongue. I go back in and request another doctor he is much better, smooths the surfaces, shaves out the extra filling in between the teeth so it doesn't feel like they are being forced apart and explains to me everything he is doing. He says it's possible I will have to come back to get the whole filling removed and replaced if the pain continues. Once again hygienist blocks me from the desk and tells me I am all set.

Now I am about to go in for the filling to be removed as the pain hasn't stopped. Except I just got a bill for my copay, they have been charging my insurance without telling me. I feel like if they fucked it up why am I paying for all these extra visits I only get so much in my dental insurance towards the work every year.

What I am wondering is if this is normal? Like if the mechanic broke my brakes he wouldn't charge me to fix what he broke you know? What are my options and should I even pursue this?

my friend sent me child pornography of him and his girlfriend and I’m scared to file a report with the police (warning)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:55 AM PDT

hey r/legaladvice; my name will remain anonymous because I feel uncomfortable posting this on my main account. I want to know what I should do because I'm unaware as to if I should bring it to the police or to my school. This is my recount of the events I know so far. I live in Rhode Island.

In March of 2019, I received videos from a boy whom I was friends with (let's call him mark) Mark sends me videos of his girlfriend and him having sexual intercourse on school grounds. He kept rolling me his girlfriend was pregnant as well. immediately block him and tell my friends about what just happened. I have not told any adults or school officials about this; they're both 15. The girlfriend got mad at me for talking about the videos; saying that Mark sent them to me in good faith that I wouldn't tell anyone.

Fast forward to October 2019. I'm talking to my friend about it because he brought up how mark has been sending him pictures of his girlfriend nude; sex videos included. My friend has told mark numerous times he doesn't want to see them and feels uncomfortable. The girlfriend says she likes Mark sending her nudes to other boys because it makes her feel "sexy" with him showing off her body.

November 1st, 2019. Their one year anniversary is today. Mark posts his girlfriends nudes on his public Snapchat story. Yes- his public. He deletes it an hour later but the whole year has seen the pictures. Mark's excuse was that he meant to put them on his private story... as if that's any better.

I don't know if I should report this to the police or to my school principal. I do not want my name associated with this at all. I want to make an anonymous tip but my school does not have an outlet for that and I am not sure how I would make an anonymous tip to the police. Also I am not sure what would even happen and if anything were to be done. I am repulsed and disgusted by the whole scenario. Not sure if this will be taken down or not but I just need to be told what to do.. and how to avoid having my name mentioned anywhere.

[NY] Female relative let a man stay in her apartment to get back on his feet, he had mail delivered there and is now refusing to leave.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 12:06 PM PDT

    Buffalo, NY

I have a relative who is in a tough situation, trying to get a job and pay her bills after losing her job due to medication issues for her mental problems.

She lives in an apartment by herself with her two daughters.

In the last few months she took in a man and allowed him to sleep on her couch in exchange for a promise of payment, as she badly needed money and felt sympathetic due to him being a recovering alcoholic and having gone through similar times of struggle herself.

He has not come up with any money. This is not entirely his fault, it's a combination of problems with his boss and weather (he is a roofer). Still, due to now being a financial drain instead of a source of income, she has asked him to leave.

This is where it may become relevant that this is a large, physically imposing man. While he has never used force, she describes him as 'intimidating her', and he has refused to leave stating that he has a right to stay due to having used her place as a mailing address.

She's called the police and they agree he has a legal right to stay.

In response she says she has begun an eviction procedure. However in the meantime he is eating her food and costing her money she doesn't have, and she is afraid to start any kind of confrontation.

She cannot afford a lawyer for this, at all. There is very little possibility of recouping the thousands of dollars this man owes her for rent and expenses, as he has no money and limited ability to obtain a job. All she wants is him out of her house so she can feel safe and stop losing money.

Is there anything she can legally do to make that happen faster?

[MI, USA] I have reason to believe my family is being harassed by county government

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 07:03 AM PDT

My family has been eligible for Medicaid for years and are still within our state's income requirements. About a year ago, we learned that her benefits had been halted and we were being retroactively charged for a hospital stay. Medicaid is managed through a local county office, CHS (county health services). We contacted the CHS and were assigned a case worker to figure out the problem. I was then contacted by friend of the court for non-payment of child support. We have never been divorced, never lived separately, and are both listed as our child's parents. The state tried to garnish my wages and charged my wife with falsifying income (for not disclosing the non-existant child support payments to the CHS). It took a month to clear everything up.

Since that situation, we've had our Medicaid reinstated and revoked several times, always without reason or under some false cause. At one point, I was told that they needed new copies of 3 months of my paycheck stubs, to which I emailed a pdf copy, faxed copies, and brought printed copies to the office in person. I was told weeks later that none of these were ever received. We have had exactly five different case workers assigned to us by the local CHS. One told me over the phone, "you know I can cancel your wife's benefits just because I feel like it." Most recently, the hospital's billing office referred us to a social worker who has been acting as a liaison. She has noticed strange discrepancies made to our personal information and believes we are being harassed. For example, last week, someone in CHS added a private insurance plan to our file, retroactively dated and set to expire in the year 2999. What should my next step be to stop this from happening to us?

edit to clarify: we are married; we were married before having kids, and have never been separated

Landlord called demanding an extra $175 on top of this months rent. Only giving me two days notice.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 09:02 AM PDT

She demanded I pay it on time or I am to be evicted. Also claiming that its for a surety bond, but I have lived here for 6 weeks, and already paid the security deposit. I have a paper with all of the first months expenses she charged me, the surety bond portion is zero'd out. I also have proof that I paid all of the move in expense on the agreed upon date.

On another note they failed to give me a copy of my lease, and when I have asked for one they claim they can't print it, and they'll email it to me. But the email never comes. I documented me asking them for one via email, that they have yet to respond to. Also no paperwork or documentation have been provided that say I owe the $175. All of the threats have been through phone call or email.

I would just like to know if I have to pay the $175 or not. I would also like to know if they can legally withhold a copy of my lease from me. I live in Iowa

Gym closed down without notice. Say they'll charge me $100 for cancelling if I don't wish to continue my membership at another gym 10 miles away

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 09:28 PM PDT

Last month I joined a gold's gym (AZ, US). They recently shut down abruptly without sending any sort of notice to the members. Since the day they shut down, they've just put up one small notice on the door saying that our memberships can be continued at Mountainside fitness(this isn't even a gold's gym). Since m fitness is quite far from my place, I don't want to go there, and went in today just to cancel my membership, only to be told that I'll still be charged $100. I asked how that's reasonable since the only reason I'm cancelling is because they shut down the gym and are asking me to go to one 10 miles away from my place. Another thing that hit me after I'd already left - guy at the gym kept saying we(m fitness) didn't buy them(gold's gym) out but this is just some sort of arrangement. I only realized afterwards that this made even less sense. Why am I supposed to pay this gym 100$ ? Since the guy I was talking to was quite polite and clearly not the one making the rules, I left without any argument to mull it over and consider my next step. The one thing I'm absolutely certain of is that this is extortion and I'm not going to shell out.

Firstly, am I the unreasonable one here? I really don't think so but let me know if I am. And if I'm not, what can I do? Can I file a complaint with the police or trade commission or whatever? Can I ask my bank not to approve the transaction and will the bank give me grief over it?

My landlord stopped paying the mortgage and now people are trying to evict us

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:28 AM PDT

This is taking place in new jersey. Our landlord stopped paying mortgage and now lost ownership of the house we live in. The bank now owns it but theres alot of confusion going on and we don't know who to pay rent to until we get a letter in the mail telling us. We never violated the lease in anyway and now its expired. Some guy who was "hired" to come to the house and take a copy of the lease came and started harrassing us trying to kick us out of the house yet we are not the problem and now we have around 3 months to move out. I honsetly don't even know whats going on anymore and I don't even know much about these kind of things but i do know we can't legally be removed so early when we never violated the lease to begin with.

[FLA,USA] Neighbor shining high power light into bedroom window.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 06:16 PM PDT

So I am a third neutral party in a feud between two neighbors. Neighbor A is an 86-year-old , questionably independently living woman, with no family or roommates that has liived in the neighborhood for more than 25 years. Neighbor B is a 50 something-year-old couple who just recently moved next door within the last 5 years. We live in a neighborhood controlled by a HOA. Neighbor B is bat shit crazy, legally speaking, and is constantly arguing with people who walk by (we live on a popular sidewalk) with a megaphone. She puts tape around the sidewalk in front of her house too(something she has been fined for). Her lastest power trip was to purchase a giant super bright LED light thing that she set up on her porch to shine directly into Neighbor As bedroom window. Neighbor A came to me (because I usually help her with chores, errands, and just check on her to make sure she is okay) and said she can't sleep at night and explained what was happening. She believes it was over a lawn dispute. I contacted the HOA who already knew about the situation because OTHER neighbors were complaining about the light ( it's one of those like 300$ box lights, visible from across the whole neighborhood). The problem is there is no rule they can hit her with. I have tried to not have to resort to police being involved. But is there some type of harassment law she is breaking? Thank you for taking the time to read.

Best way to report my owner to the labor board?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 11:13 AM PDT

I am currently working in retail for someone who is not following our labor laws here in California. The two biggest violations are: A. Not posting the labor laws and employee rights board anywhere in our store for employees. B. Not posting our schedules at least a week before the first scheduled shift. These schedules are also solely on Facebook, which I think may also be a violation. (Please correct me if I'm wrong there)

I know there is a small fine for not having our rights posted anywhere in the store. I am also aware of the different payouts he must give for violating the scheduling.

So my question is, how can I report this to the labor board without risking myself getting terminated?

Psycho family is constantly harassing me and my children

Psycho Sisters trying to take my kids away

So a few months ago DH and I got a divorce , so now he's EX...we are completely at peace, no war, no fighting. We decided on 50/50 custody of our boys (7&9) and no child support either way. Ever since we split up, my JUSTNO family completely lost their minds. I've had very little to no contact with my 4 sisters and 1 brother for the past 2 years for various issues of theirs. But me leaving EX sent them all on a warpath. Sister K has been my biggest thorn making false reports to CPS, breaking into EX house and stealing weird items like kids shoes, and some dog toys (she doesn't own a dog) Sisters S&s had been strangely quiet until recently when S contacted CPS claiming I stole RX painkillers and am doing drugs in front of my kids(umm, I can't take anything stronger than ibuprofen) (Side note-S&s are older and younger sisters with same first initial) s showed up to court with K after I put a restraining order on her. Judge granted it with all the evidence I provided from law enforcement. Brother G is refusing to get involved one way or another. Sister J actually called my boys school in MN (USA) from Las Vegas NV and tells them to watch the boys closely because they're being abused and neglected (more false CPS reports) How can I put a restraining order on J from several states away?

After 15 years of mental and (we suspect) physical abuse, multiple infidelities, and months spent on the couch my brother finally left his wife. The custody battle has turned ugly.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:34 AM PDT

I live in Canada and I need to know what to expect. Long story short; the oldest daughter (13) has told her school and the local police that her mother's boyfriend has made sexual advances toward her and that her mother has been grooming her pubic area with a razor (she developed a rash that needed to be treated). CPS has removed her from the premises and she is now living with dad. The Police have charged her and him with sexual assault and CPS have removed her from home and is now living with dad.

Dad has no convictions,no criminal record of any kind.

I need to know if there is anything I can/should be doing. If its possible to tell the boys that we love them and have not abandoned them. What are his chances of getting full custody or at least split custody (hes only allowed every second weekend). And if there is a chance my niece will be sent back to live with her mother.

If any one needs more details I will give them to the best of my ability.

    Thank you.

[WA] I may soon be offered a job with a Canadian company organizing firearms shipments to and from Canada. I am an American.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 10:40 AM PDT

I applied to this job through Craigslist. It was listed as an undisclosed location about 15 minutes from the Canadian border (this is not unusual, I live about 30 minutes from the border, about an hour south of Vancouver). The job posting (which has since been deleted) said they needed someone to help organize police and military firearms across the border. The position needed familiarity with firearm laws, international shipments, and I need to be willing to obtain a concealed carry permit. I have military experience and have worked with large international shipments before, so this sounded like a good fit. It's 8-10 hours a week, $20 an hour, so it could potentially fit into an existing full time job.

What I didn't realize is that I would be the only American working for a Canadian firing range. They said they "expect me to be their point person" for the American side of their shipments. There is no office or support on this side of the border as far as I can tell. I am supposed to meet a guy at Starbucks on the border on Tuesday for an interview. This all reads very sketchy to me. What should I ask in the interview? What should I be careful of if I am offered this job?

    2Million+ Special Assessment - HOA

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 12:11 PM PDT

I have a property up in the Pacific North West that is managed by an HOA. We pay $400 monthly for a run-down community. The current HOA has imposed a special assessment on each of us homeowners for a repiping project that has been put in place or they will not be able to renew their insurance policy. Only (1) construction company in the area will take on the project and they are known to be very expensive. They have quoted the board 2.2million which will equate to about $35,000 per homeowner.

•The current HOA is horrendous, they have mismanaged and in my opinion, embezzled the money from us. The $400 we all pay monthly does not come back into the community, it is an older community with very few amenities

•I have had issues in the past with the HOA who has harassed me into fixing a water leak within our shared walls. It has happened (3) times and each time they threated to place a lien on my property if it was not repaired. I now know why the issues happened so frequently because of the water pipe issue the HOA was aware of, however, harassed where they could due to not wanting to open another claim against their insurance policy.

•This recent issue was discovered due to the HOA no longer obtaining the ability to extend their warranty due to "too many claims" being opened from water piping. This was stated in their awareness document to us as owners.

•I have attempted to sell the property, however, I recently pulled it from the market due to the assessment and lack of funding a buyer would be able to obtain.

•There are no plans to discontinue service with our HOA management company

    Location - Portland, Or.

    Do I have any recourse?

Slumlord is FORCING me to take back storage unit they flooded me out of

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 12:59 PM PDT

Slumlords flooded my storage unit out 2x in 1 1/2 months

    Terminated storage unit

Didn't want to pay reduction of services

Housing could only give me certain amount advised me to take them to court.

    Judge admonished them

    I won

    They appealed

    I won

I asked them for more months they owed me

They paid but said by paying they are off the hook by "offering me" the storage unit BACK.

I said no I was not making any deals

They now want to force me to take the storage back whether I want it or not and will not pay any more reduction of services.

Second flooding was in FEBRUARY 2019

They are forcing storage unit on me JANUARY 2020

According to LAHD they CAN do this if it is in a TIMELY MANNER

I think ONE YEAR is a little untimely.

They are also playing numbers games with rent increase:

    Was supposed to happen 11/1

Could not pay rent online (blocked)

Manager banged on door with notice 11/1 saying Rent increase notice they had sent to raise rent on 11/1 was "void and I should ignore it."

They were not going to raise it until JANUARY 2020 when they deduct all the reduction of services fees. And THEN raise it.

Home inspector really dropped the ball on my new house (Indiana)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:50 AM PDT

I'll keep this as short as possible.

I just bought my first home. I found a smaller starter home with a decent sized yard and 2 car garage being sold by a local "house flipper".. mistake number one I guess.

I hired a reputable home inspection company with great reviews, and a guy came out the same day. The inspection report seemed fairly detailed and thorough, with photographs and detailed descriptions on possible issues that may arise in the future. I asked the guy bluntly if there were any serious issues with the home, and if this house was a "lipstick on a pig" type of home and not worth the investment.

Inspector told me, while needing SOME work with replacing outdated infrastructure in the near future (plumbing, siding, windows, etc) the house overall was in solid shape and he didn't see any issues with it. So, I closed on Wednesday and started moving in.

Cut to yesterday. We had a cold snap and the temperature dropped into the 30s, and that's when we noticed the furnace doesn't work very well. So I hire an HVAC guy to come take a look. He tells me another story... the whole heating/air system was half assed, and worse yet, the duct work below the house in the crawl space was completely rotted out, and essentially, the furnace is blowing hot air directly into the crawlspace, and I'm getting what's left over.

HVAC guy also tells me that there is "no way in hell" that any inspector worth his salt would fail to see how poor the duct work was, and now I'm looking at roughly $20k in repairs to overhaul the whole setup.

Honestly, if I had been made aware of this situation, I would have run for the hills on this house and found something else. I don't mind getting my hands dirty or paying for repairs, but a 5 figure fix right out of the gate is pretty scary.

A family friend (and lifelong home remodeler/builder) informed me that this level of failure might make the home inspector liable for screwing up such a vital part of the inspection process but I'm skeptical... do I have any recourse here, or am I looking at biting the bullet and paying twenty grand for a repair of my HVAC?

TL;DR: bought a house, home inspector completely missed the decaying duct work in my crawl space despite going into the crawlspace, now looking at $20k in repairs. Is there anything I can do?

Last night I found out that my dad died... on July 27th. I live in North Carolina - my dad and my brother live(d) in New Jersey. I found out third hand from my mom (they are divorced, she lives in Minnesota), who found out yesterday from my uncle (he has known since it happened). I was in contact with my dad up until ~June 20th, when he suddenly wasn't returning messages or calls.

My brother has autism and was always hard to get ahold of, it was mostly my dad that could get him on the phone. I have no way to contact him besides a cell phone that is turned off 95% of the time, which still goes unanswered. I tried to reach out to extended family to find out what exactly happened; my uncle did tell me in a voice message that my dad died of COPD, that my brother "handled things", and he didn't contact me out of respect for my brother. And he told me to never contact him again.

As far as I know, my dad did not have a will, but he had a house in Wayne, NJ under his name. It still is under his name, and my brother is currently residing there, alone. I can't find any records of a funeral, obituary, or any acknowledgement at all that he had passed away. At this point I mostly want information so I can grieve. I'd like to be able to give him the send off that he deserves. I would also like to know if his estate is being handled (I am getting the impression that it is not), but the only family I have in New Jersey besides my brother... has told me to take up any further questions with my brother, who I have been unable to contact as previously mentioned.

Does anyone here have some insight in these kinds of situations? What do I do? What are my rights? Do I need a lawyer at this stage?

Abusive stepdad who abuses prescription drugs, any legal repercussions I can cause?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 06:12 AM PDT

So he and my mother are getting divorced and he keeps texting her harassment like telling her she is fat and ugly and swears too much(even though he curses far more) and tries to claim that she ruined their marriage. So basically I was sick of my mom taking her shit out on me so I sent him a text telling him and I quote: "I have photo evidence, video evidence, audio evidence, and witness evidence of your physical abuse and harassment towards my family. Stop texting my mother messages of harassment and insults immediately or I will have the police onto you and I will see you arrested.", and I do actually have all the evidence I claimed, I also have more evidence of him abusing perception drugs. Can I, a 16 year old, make good on any of my promises, can I actually cause any legal repercussions for him?

Edit: I forgot to say this again, but I reside in the state of Maryland.

Roommate says she wants to sue me for recording her and her boyfriend in our house.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 10:08 AM PDT

    Little back story:

I am renting out a room with my best friend's sister and another roommate. I live in the basement and my best friends sister (we will call her Emily 18F) lives upstairs and her boyfriend (we will call him Tyler 20M).

    What happened:

On Halloween, Emily and Tyler had a fight. Not like a normal fight, a fight as in I was downstairs shaking and crying because I was worried for Emily's safety. I video recorded their argument (you couldn't see anything other than the ground, I was recording for audio purposes) from the basement because Tyler was throwing pots/pans in the kitchen, kicking/punching the walls and doors, and screaming and yelling at the top of his lungs. At one point I thought he may have physically hurt her. He was also hurting the dogs they owned (I heard him smack them before Emily came home because he was mad at her.) She was bawling her eyes out screaming and crying at him and he wasn't calming down. I was extremely scared (I am of small build so I didn't want to go upstairs and interrupt something and be physically involved. Tyler is around 6 feet and of muscular build.) Tyler punched a hole in the wall that was previously there, he made it bigger. Our bathroom door is damaged as well (we suspect it was from that) and dishes/bowls were broken. Emily made up an excuse that the dishwasher broke the dishes and now we can't use it anymore. I know it is a lie because I did some investigating of my own.

I texted Emily's sister, we will call her Sophia (19F) about how I was scared that Tyler may be physically hurting Emily. Sophia called me and asked me what was happening and I was still visibly upset from what I heard.

Tyler you see doesn't live at the house. He has no job, he stays at the house 24/7 and plays video games all day, and he has had a multitude of problems with Emily and Sophia's parents. They have said that he isn't allowed at the house and Emily doesn't listen. They also breed their pit bulls and basically run a kennel at the house.

Emily told Sophia when she came home yesterday and if I had called the cops (which I was very close to doing) that she would have sued me. Now, since she is 18 I highly doubt she will but I want to make sure that if anything happens that I wouldn't have been in the wrong. Is it illegal to video / audio record what I believed to be a domestic violence situation in the house that Emily and I live in, not Tyler. Her parents own the house and they have verbally stated they are basically on my side and have thanked me for letting them know what has been happening at the house.

    This is in West Virginia.

    Edit: spelling

My dog attacked another dog can I be sued?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:56 AM PDT

My now ex boyfriend was walking my dog (pug mix) around our apartment complex while I was at work and he some how got off of his lease and got into a fight with another smaller dog. Unfortunately he isn't giving me very many details about what happened. He did not give the women either of our contact info or my address which I am very upset about. Can I be sued or held liable if I wasn't the one walking him?

Edit: I am located in Nebraska

[ON - CA] My employer is forcing me to choose between taking a job I wasn't hired to do and taking a severance package

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 07:40 AM PDT

I've been in this position for less than a year. I was hired by a mid-size company to do a specific job (think like IT support) earlier this year. There was restructuring at the company and my responsibilities were consolidated into a single role and have been given to a more senior employee. I was told I was going to be given more work specific to my field in other departments at the company.

Weeks passed. I wasn't given any new assignments and basically came in to stare at my computer for two months. I was pulled into a meeting with HR and my boss last week, and I was told that I was going to be reassigned in coordinator position (think like event management, reception work, etc.) I told them that I didn't want to do these tasks and that I was not contracted for this purpose.

Another week passed, pulled into another meeting with HR. They're giving me the ultimatum of either taking the coordinator responsibilities until the end of my contract (several months) or taking a severance package (worth about a third of the value of the remainder of my current contract.)

They want me to think about it over the weekend and report back about my decision sometime next week. Here's my question: is this legal? Can they really force me to either take a payout or take a job I wasn't hired to do? I heard a rumor that the company is being investigated by the labour ministry right now, so I have to wonder if this is a legal practice, or if they're being shady.

Should I just take the severance package?
