Dental insurance maxed out....cleaning still covered? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:16 PM PST I maxed out my dental insurance earlier this year because I needed 2 crowns. With my insurance I get 2 cleanings a year included. My first cleaning was in April and my second was scheduled for today. I've never had to pay out of pocket for a cleaning but today my dentist said since I maxed out earlier this year that my second cleaning wasn't covered and I was charged $200. Is that correct? I thought the cleanings were covered regardless [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:25 AM PST Ok, so it's a pretty simple situation. Im in Texas and This driver pulled across an intersection trying to get to the far lanes and I T boned them. Everyone walked away fine which is of course the most important part. But my brand new prius took the hit for me. All my cab air bags went off, and the engine was halfway in my lap. A police officer came and filed a report. The guy admitted he was at fault, and we went our separate ways. I got set up with Allstate (his insurance) and we got started filing the claim. 5 days later, they still haven't gotten any word from him. So they cant get me a rental until he gives them a statement. And apparently the police report doesn't matter either until he gets a hold of them. Not to mention my adjuster went out of town and didnt pass the case off to anyone. Thanks Justin. The problem is now that I need a car. Badly. I could go to my insurance, but was told if I rent through them, that they have to take the entire claim. Annnnnnd... I'm not trying to let that happen. My car is more than likely totalled, and I'm still paying for it. The way I see it, I can afford to wait maybe 1 more day to see if they get ahold of him before I HAVE to turn to my insurance. Just wanted to get any other opinions on the matter. I'm pretty confident in what I'm going to have to do but wanted to hear what random people on the internet thought lol Thanks in advance for any advice! Love ya! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:41 AM PST Husband's job is requesting a medical questionnaire be filled out before quoting a policy for our family. I thought that was no longer legal. Why is this necessary? (No life insurance on this policy) [link] [comments] |
Insurance won't pay deductible, not at fault California Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:19 PM PST Hello insurance gurus, My car was hit while parked twice in one weekend. I filed two claims, both with my insurance, and for one claim I received money from the at faults insurer. I then went to my insurances suggested mechanic, Caliber Collision. They fixed the two damaged areas, my insurance payed for most everything (or so I thought) and only I payed $140 out of pocket at the time. I drove away with my car thinking everything was settled Now a month later Caliber Collision is contacting me saying I owe $565 more and that my insurance isn't covering my deductible on one of my claims. Caliber is saying that because the at fault insurers payed me that my insurance now will not cover my deductible. Caliber didn't really seem to know which claim they were talking about, and honestly it's still not clear to me. I talked to both my adjustors and they assured me that they took care of my claims and didn't understand why Caliber is demanding more money from me. Well, today I get another email from Caliber saying they spoke with my adjustor and I still owe the money and the deadline is next Friday. I'm so confused, because the at faults insurance sent me a check, my insurance will not pay my deductible? It's too late in the day for me to call my adjustor, so maybe there's a new development. What I don't understand is why is it that earlier this week when I spoke with my adjustor he didn't know why Caliber wanted more money? I'm sorry if this post is confusing, I am very confused. I can't seem to find the right words to search in google to find someone in a similar situation. [link] [comments] |
First car crash, having big problems Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:03 PM PST Hey, yesterday I was in my first crash (Florida). I was turning into a parking lot and was hit from behind by a truck going way over the limit, was their fault, and my car while I was able to drive it home, the back is completely crushed and it should not be on the street. Anyway, while setting up a claim and talking to my insurance provider, I was told that I did not disclose a family member on my insurance who lives with me, and in about a week they will decide if my insurance is void and it would be as if I was never covered at all or if I will get a new quote. Before this happened I also called the persons provider and set up a claim with them. I'm kind of worried and not sure where to go from here now. My biggest concern is not getting in some sort of trouble myself because of this when the wreck was not even my fault in the slightest. [link] [comments] |
Positions in insurance for none people person? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:14 PM PST Recently posted on here about part time opportunities in insurance. Write now I don't have enough experience to be an attractive canidate. I am asking if there are positions in this industry for people who don't like talking to customers or claimants. I am polite but I prefer sorting through data on a computer to talking to insureds and shops. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:45 PM PST I'm on BCBS managed through Collective Health. Back of my card says to use CVS as a pharmacy. Is this true? Do I have to? I asked at my local grocery pharmacy and they said that insurance may cover them, but the deals at CVS may be better because of the contract. I'd rather not do any business with CVS if I can avoid it. [link] [comments] |
Personal injury settlement - include just co-pay or entire medical bill? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:39 PM PST (Previously posted in r/legaladvice at here but maybe it's more appropriate here?) Was involved in a minor injury at the mall. Filed a claim with their insurance. They are asking me what my "out of pocket" medical expenses are. Do I state just the amount of co-pay I paid for the doctor visit (around $20), or the amount of the actual bill (around $200)? Seems hard to get much if I can only file for the co-pay. Plus I heard sometimes health provider will try to get the money for the bill back from the settlement? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 03:48 PM PST I filed a claim after my apartment was burglarized with my renters insurance (State Farm) (California) The police came, I filed a report, notified my landlord and insurance agent. I was told to list what was taken and/or damaged. After doing this I was instructed to send it to the claims specialist with purchase price, age, and descriptions of said items etc...I got a call from the specialist and we went over the list and clarified any details it needed, questions she had etc... After we had that resolved she said I think we should probably be able to issue you a check for partial reimbursement today. She said you can still claim the other items you need more time to gather info on that aren't listed yet but lets take care of this part now. I gave her direct deposit info for the check to be transferred to. She sent me two emails later that afternoon saying that the check had been issued and it stated the value of the check and referenced the claim and my policy number in the emails. The emails also showed a copy of the actual check, and that it was sent to the department that transfers via direct deposit. Well the check never made it to my account and now they are saying they are closing this claim and starting a new one. I'm getting calls from an insurance investigator harassing me with questions about things on the list and no answers about what happened to my partial claim check when I asked him about it. He just says you will get an email. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
I've health savings account questions Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:01 PM PST What's the difference between HSA, HDHP, and MSA accounts? And what are pros/cons? I use medical thing a lot for my chronic and genetic conditions. So we're wondering if it's "worth it" or should we just continue doing the out of pocket copays? [link] [comments] |
I work from from home: Home insurance says it won't cover buildings used for business purposes Posted: 06 Nov 2019 12:59 PM PST I work from home as an independent contractor (software developer / programmer). I was looking through my condo insurance and noticed that under Loss or Damage Not Insurance it said: We do not insure: buildings, units or structures used in whole or in part for business I'm not too worried about small claims, but only what would happen if there was a disaster and I had to make a major claim for my home. I'm hoping this isn't a technicality that they could use to reject a claim. I called my insurance company and their answers weren't that great. They said they couldn't add any coverage for my type of business (but left the policy as is) and recommended that I should probably get Commerical Liability insurance (which I don't have atm). This is in Alberta, Canada Do I need to get a different home insurance provider? Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Personal injury worth pursuing? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:05 AM PST Hello! I am wondering if this is worth pursuing. Long story short, I fell on a sidewalk that was raised by about 2" and landed on my outstretched hands. I broke a bone in my thumb joint on one hand and have some damage to the tendons in the other hand. The broken thumb hand actually will need surgery to remove a rogue piece of bone, and has lost a lot of strength and function which isn't getting better with OT. The ortho and OT both say it is more likely than not that I will have arthritis. The hand with the tendon issue is looking like it will need some scar tissue removed in another surgery, but is having to be put off while I am healing the other hand and this is making the damage worse every day. Both hands are in significant pain which has made it hard for me to do my work (I am an accountant) and have lost significant amounts of income because of that. Based on the laws of my state (WA) and the specifics of the situation, I can prove the negligence of the property owner. The owners have commercial insurance, which said they are not liable because the owners inspect the premise daily and the defect "was never there prior" but google street view shows it's been damaged since at least 2014. So if I pursue this I'll need an attorney but before I go that route I'm wondering if it's worth pursuing? I've talked to a few and they say it is, but I'd like the perspective of an adjuster if possible, since the attorneys get a share of a recovery. If I can only be compensated a small amount, like a few grand and the attorney will end up with a bigger share than me after medical bills are paid, it isn't really worth it to me to pursue, but if these injuries can be compensated for at a higher amount, it would potentially be worth it to me to pursue. I guess what I'm asking for is a rough estimate / ballpark range of the settlement value of injuries like this. I know it's very fact specific but hopefully someone has a rough idea. This is a really hard choice for me because I don't want to waste my time or an attorney's time, and I feel guilty for feeling like I deserve to be compensated for the injury so I'm struggling on this decision. Thank you for any insight you can give me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:41 AM PST I have dental insurance right now, but my in-network is tiny, and I have a low limit. I've been with them for 4 years, so the plan is better than most < 1 year plans. I live in the USA. I want to continue to carry my current plan for 1 year, until my better insurance (United Healthcare) will kick in. I am single and have no children. I've read everything on Google about this and the information is worthless and basically consists of "You can't stack 4 plans paying 50% each and get paid to have a root canal". Which is obvious. My understanding is that coverage % is based on the original dental bill and the policy plan. So: $2000 bill Plan A pays %40: Plan A pays $800 Plan B pays %50: %50 is $1,000, since $800 was already paid, plan B pays $200. I pay $1,000 I don't believe I end up paying $200(correct me if I'm wrong). I'm curious about 3 things:
I know every provider has their own nuances, but I'm asking in general because this information is almost impossible to find. Edit: Found an answer on caps from reading policy info on 4 plans and state laws regarding "Coordination of benefits" (COB).
So my above example, after policy 1 pays $800 policy 2 will pay $600 on the remaining $1200 bill. I would pay $600. Some states/plans have a non-duplication/carve-out policy where the 2nd policy would pay only $200. Luckily most states are not like this.

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 02:18 PM PST I have had surgery that was medically necessary but not emergency, and after a long back and forth of claim filing and appeals, it came back as rejected due to no prior authorization. I guess I was stupid for not fully understanding the plan, although the condition affected my daily life and made basic functioning/work the only thing I could manage. So basically my question is is there any hope or route that I can get anything from the insurance company to help pay or am I totally screwed? [link] [comments] |
Allstate Milewise program, anyone familiar with this? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:49 PM PST Location: TX Does anyone have experience with the program Milewise from Allstate. It is a new program that is "pay-as-you-drive". It seems like it would be an interesting idea, especially for those of us that work from home. I drive very little, maybe only a few miles a day. It seems to operate like a toll tag, where money is deducted and replenished as you hit a minimum threshold. I reached out to a couple of Allstate agents in my area and they seemed uninformed about it, which doesn't really put me at ease. I had to call the main office for them to confirm that it is available in my area but I'd have to talk to a local agent for quotes. Anyone have any experience with Milewise? What were your experiences? [link] [comments] |
Advice for starting my own insurance agency, incorporating, business plans, etc! That would give me a lot of a head start and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to give me any advice/information on resources. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Study and Pass CPCU 500 in a week? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:26 AM PST Hi guys, Just wondering, I have a week off work coming up, and I would like to start the CPCU. Problem is, the only available testing option open near me gives me a week of studying. Everything else is bookes up. Have any of you studied and passed within a week of studying? I have nothing else going on, and I can devote an entire week to cramming. Is it possible? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 12:25 PM PST Hey guys. Last January I traded my vehicle in while I still owed $11k on top of what the car was worth. The dealership managed to roll that into the new car lease that I am in right now. I have only driven the car for only 9 thousand miles and I purchased GAP insurance for it. Long story short, my current vehicle is supposed to be about $24k out the door, but it ended up being $35k due to the upside down cost of the trade in. My car got caught in one of California's wild fires a couple of days ago and it is a total loss. I have began communicating with the insurance but I am a little bit confused. I paid the GAP through the dealership. My car was financed $35k on a lease and its current value is only at $18k. Will the GAP insurance cover the remaining amount of $17k? Or will they only fill in the gap up to the car's original cost of $24k which means they'll only give me $6k and I'm still stuck with the rest? Please help. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:53 AM PST TL;DR: Looking for a bit of clarification on the process of filing a claim with other (at fault) party's insurance if repair estimate exceeds the value of my car (in CA). Another car hit my car while my wife was driving it in California. No injuries, and the damage looked pretty minor (she was in the left turn lane, starting to go, and the other car cut in from the right and grazed the front right side). Damage is mostly to the bumper and fender, with small scrapes on the headlight assembly. The other driver expressed interest in paying out of pocket because he has other recent accidents. I took it to a friend's body shop and the cash estimate to repair everything (plus rental car) is $3K. KBB Private Party on my car is only ~$1,900 (Fair) to ~$2,400 (Good). It's a 2001 Subaru Outback that I plan on driving into the ground, because I love it. Since it's an old car, it's got a few dings and blemishes already. My friend basically said that given my circumstances, if I could get half of the estimate from the guy in cash ($1,500), I should just do that. Then we could decide which things to fix... looks like I could replace the bumper cover and have it painted for under $1K, and then not worry about the fender or the small scratches on the headlight assembly. He said it could be done in 3 days or less. The other driver was in an Enterprise rental car and said that he purchased the supplemental insurance coverage. My friend said that I could go through insurance too. But when he was talking about the insurance route, he said a few things that I wasn't clear on/don't remember exactly, so that's where I'm looking for some clarification... He said since the estimate is more than the value of the car, it would likely be a total loss. And then something about having to possibly re-register it with a salvage title, taking it to a smog check place to get inspected again, etc.? Sounds like a hassle. He also said that going through insurance would likely take a bit longer since they have to come out and inspect, possibly go back and forth, etc. Basically can someone please walk me through the process of going through the other guy's insurance? I don't think I've ever gotten hit before. Do I call his insurance directly or do I call mine and have them contact his? And then what about all the salvage title etc. stuff? Or can I just get a check from his insurance company and then fix whatever I want to fix? One more thing... I don't think I have rental car coverage on my own insurance, so while my car is in the shop, would that be paid for by the other guy's insurance or would I have to pay out of pocket? The status right now is that I sent the estimate to the other guy and he initially said we should probably just go through insurance, given the $3K estimate. I asked him how much his deductible is and how much he'd be willing to pay to avoid going through insurance, and am waiting to hear back. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Need to know how exactly GEICO accident forgiveness works in this situation. Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:43 AM PST My dad has a car under his name that basically one of my siblings drives. She let a friend drive that car and was in an accident. Long story short, a guy not on his policy was in an accident with my dads car. A claim was already filed by the other driver and he has received the notices from both insurances, but apparently nobody was at fault according to the police report, It wasn't a minor accident, damages are like 10-15k. Anyways would this accident be covered under GEICO's accident forgiveness or not because the driver was someone not listed on the policy? [link] [comments] |
Friend backed into car, do I file the claim or does she? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:04 AM PST Before I explain the situation, I wanted to apologize for my lack of knowledge on the insurance world—I just turned 20 so I'm still trying to figure everything out. I also live in Maryland. A couple months ago, my friend backed into my car. It left some hood damage and dents, but my car was still drivable. I called my mom and she wasn't too worried about it. My friend, of course, apologized profusely and said that she would cover it, no problem. I didn't worry about it too much because it was the middle of the summer and it was extremely busy where I work, so I had a lot on my plate. It's been a while now and this friend is kind of flaky so I should have filed the claim right then and there, but my parents weren't worried, so I wasn't. Fast forward a couple of months, my friend has been ignoring me a lot lately, normal friend stuff. I just want my car fixed because it's $1,500 worth of damage to my car and it makes the trade-in value less. Can I file a claim or does my friend have to file it? Thank you for any help. Has anybody here ever filed a claim with Amica? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:32 AM PST Hi! I live in Northern California and I just had total loss on my car at Safeco, which is sad. It was no fault falling object while parked which is ok, and I got a small settlement and bought a newer used car with it, which is good. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:37 AM PST Location: NJ. So I just bought a brand new car and instead of trading in my old one, my girlfriend is selling hers and will be using my now old one. I don't want to sell her that car, I just want her to use that one. Does that mean I have to add her on to my insurance? Does my rate now go up because of this? Does that depend on her record or credit history? (she's been driving 5 years and had 1 accident while she was stopped at a stop light and a lady hit her), and her credit is not great but slowly improving. Also, at some point we might each be driving the cars interchangeably, does her name go on each car and would that also effect the rate? Ninja edit: long term relationship, marriage eventually but not soon. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:18 AM PST My car few month old model 3 was a total loss in WA state. The other party was at fault and I don't have rental coverage so I am now paying out of pocket for a rental car. The other insurance company is saying that they will only pay for the rental car for 5 days after a total loss offer was made. But this is ridiculous because I didn't even receive and deposit the check until a couple of weeks after the offer. On top of this I am ordering another model 3 which isn't even going to be ready for another month. Speaking with the other insurance company more than a week ago, they said that they would continue to pay for the rental. Maybe they spoke without confirming by but regardless, I haven't returned the car because I assumed their word meant something. They don't seem to be budging on the 5 day thing and I will be out over $500 from this. Is there any recourse! They did give me false hope which seems like there fault. Not to to mention that this whole incident wasn't even my fault at all. Would a lawyer help? What can I do? [link] [comments] |
