    Social anxiety working in public?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 04:38 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

Just curious if there's anyone else out there who is extremely shy, and how you manage dealing with that while talking to clients/partners, etc.? I think I'm just low confidence. I consider myself decently smart. I passed my CPA, had a good GPA in school, but I just have a huge inferiority complex that I can't seem to get over. It's to the point where I don't even want to get promoted any higher cause I know the responsibility would just increase and increase. I want to move up in my career but I don't know if the stress is worth it.

Work experience prior to the FBI

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 07:23 PM PDT

I want to become a forensic accountant at the FBI, and I was wondering what kind of prior work experience they want? I had two internships, one at a local public firm and the other at a national public firm, and I just accepted an offer at a third local public firm that's very reputable in my area. I am staying local for the time being until I can afford to move away and potentially apply at a Big 4.

I have seen some posts here and stuff on LinkedIn about a lot of FBI forensic accountants working Big 4, and I was wondering if that is a pseudo requirement to work at the FBI? I'm working toward my CPA and am planning on doing the CFE. I have no major life obligations, so I honestly have all the time and effort I need to reach my goals.

So does the FBI prefer people who worked Big 4? Or do they look at things like success in the workplace, employer recommendations, advancement, etc.?

I've seen folks leave and return in 4-6 months because private can be such a drag for young motivated professionals

Is it true that CLA (CliftonLarsenAllen) severely underplays their employees as their level rises?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 10:06 AM PDT

*Title should be "underpays", not "underplays". Autocorrect got me.

Just curious. I Interviewed there for a staff position and it looked more like a local firm than a national, multi-billion dollar firm. The office seemed to focus more on work-life balance than career growth (like half of the conversations were "We're not Big 4") and... not going to lie... the partners at Plante were driving Tesla's and the like whereas the Principals at CLA all had toyota camrys.

Not that it matters, I'm just curious because when I googled salary data, it looked like the average pay for a CLA principal is equivalent to a Big 4 manager/SM

Invited to Crowe's Pre-night social and office visit after the interview

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 09:49 PM PDT

I am going through recruitment process and this is hopefully the last week of it. My interview was in house with a partner and a manager. Afterwards the partner invited me to the pre-social night and an office visit the following week. I am confused, doesn't that happen before the interview? I do not know what this means and my offer deadline for other firms are closely approaching and I am not sure how Crowe does their recruiting?

    Help

I was placed in a financial services tax group even though I wanted international tax. Should I just stick things out and see if I like it?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:34 PM PDT

I'm a newly hired tax associate in NYC. I was placed in financial services despite asking to be put in international tax. I like international tax because I know there is more consulting and research type of work. FS as I know will be a lot of repetitive tax work.

How are the exit opportunities if I leave public accounting in 3 years? Would you recommend trying out financial services for a busy season and then figuring out what to do from there?

Summer Internship for 1st year accounting student?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:27 PM PDT

Hey! I'm in my first year of university pursuing an accounting degree and I'm enjoying it so far and doing quite well in my classes.

I am in a co-op program at my university, and we are going to have our first co-op term in winter semester of our second year.

So I've been trying to do all I can to beef up my resume, joining business clubs at school etc, and I wonder if it'd be reasonable to look for an internship over the summer?

I know big 4 recruiting for summer is mostly almost done, (and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't hire a freshman anyways) so where else can I look? Should I just keep checking job boards? Is it worth contacting smaller local firms to see if they're willing to take on a summer intern? Should I focus on other things and not worry about internships when I don't have much experience?

    Any advice would be appreciated!
