Bank of America joins brokerage wars with unlimited free trades for preferred members

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/21/bank-of-america-joins-brokerage-wars-with-unlimited-free-trades.html

Another financial giant is adding to the growing consensus that the correct price of a stock trade is zero.

Bank of America said Monday that any customer of retail banking loyalty program for its Merrill Edge service will now get unlimited free trades for stocks, ETFs and options.

The lender probably isn't giving up much in fee revenue with the move: It estimated that 87% of trades from its loyalty group members were already free.

    Buying an index fund

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 01:55 PM PDT

I'm new to investing but I want to start by buying an index fund. I was thinking of buying the Schwab S&P 500 index fund and I plan to hold it for atleast a decade. Should I just invest now since I plan to hold it long term or should I wait for the price to start dropping before I buy it?

The amount of options for ETFs is overwhelming to me.

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 01:29 PM PDT

I'm 18 and got into investing last year. I want diversified ETFs that track certain sectors and indexes but I don't wanna overlap. There's so many options and I don't know which is the best one.

Anyone have a portfolio they can show me or give me advice?

    Long on TSE:LABS (Medipharm Labs)

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:15 AM PDT

Full disclosure, I have a position on LABS, bought in around $5.00.

I've been trading the Canadian Cannabis market for ~3 years now and have done quite well, but sold all my previous holdings (long) at the peak. Held cash for a few months while analyzing my next buy, which was LABS (majority).

The last year of trading was all about volume, press releases, and multiples - sadly the wild west is over now (hope you were able to take advantage of that term) and the market is now looking for real Revs on the balance sheets. This is why I wanted to get opinions on LABS. They cleared $31MM in Rev last ER and their next ER is coming Nov 12, 2019.

They are one of the first companies I've noticed that have a solid business model and their timing in the market is impeccable - re: Oct 17 Edible market release - coming into the 'Cannabis 2.0' market with a line of products/services that the large LP's don't have internal access to, so said LP's are giving large quantities to LABS for tolling.

The kicker: Health Canada has seen a significant influx of Hemp Cultivation License applications this season - as long as you have land and no criminal record you can easily get approved - but most were given too late in the season for farmers to plant hemp, thus the 2020 season will have an oversupply of hemp (driving prices down of the raw commodity). This is where I see LABS taking off, specifically within the CBD product category that is seemingly very popular with consumers globally.

    Thoughts?

    How do ETFs make money?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:41 AM PDT

If I were to start an ETF for example, how would I make any money off it? The fees are much lower than inflation, so I dont really see the incentive or understand why someone might start an ETF.

Do I understand this 8-k correctly?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 08:34 AM PDT

    https://newsfilter.io/articles/8-k-form---current-report-items-302-and-801---switch-inc-0001710583-filer-f2d8c6e25b4beef6a07154f1d21e06c1

"On October 1, 2019, Switch, Inc. (the "Company") issued an aggregate of 2,438,454 shares of the Company's Class A common stock (the "Shares") to certain members of Switch, Ltd. (the "Operating Company") in connection with the exercise by such members of their respective redemption right for an equivalent number of common units of the Operating Company (the "Units") and corresponding cancellation of an equivalent number of the Company's Class B common stock. The Company elected to settle such redemption payment by issuance of the Shares. The redemption occurred pursuant to the terms of the Fifth Amended and Restated Operating Agreement of the Operating Company entered into in connection with the Company's initial public offering (the "Operating Agreement"). Pursuant to the redemption, the Company canceled its Class B common stock (one share for each of the Units) owned by such members. The Shares were issued in reliance upon an exemption from registration pursuant to Section 4(a)(2) of the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, on the basis that it did not involve a public offering."

So in simple terms, the 2.4 million Class A shares offered are non-dilutive because they cancelled an equal amount of Class B shares. Correct? I'm unsure of the "cancellation" process as well...but that may be answered in my next question.

    http://www.conferencecalltranscripts.org/4/summary2/?id=6888416

In the days after the 8-K was filed there was a lot (relatively) of "Insider Selling" headlines. http://www.conferencecalltranscripts.org/4/summary2/?id=6888416

In this one, the guy was said to have sold roughly 2.4 million common shares, and approx. 800,000 shares were converted from Class B, to Class A.

Is the cancellation of Class B shares automatic after the 8-K is filed? Or will they only be cancelled if and when the holders make rhe decision to convert their shares? And if they choose to convert their shares instead of take the money, is that a good sign that the company is healthy and going strong or could there be other motives for converting?

Can someone please explain why all these brokerages are eliminating fees?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:45 AM PDT

I understand that a certain trading app kinda started the free trading idea. I just don't get what is in it for these established brokers. How do they stand to benefit from eliminating fees?

    Diageo

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 12:41 AM PDT

Anybody know why Diageo £DGE is on such a slide? Is it worth buying now or is this correcting? I know Brexit can be a factor, but this is the biggest dip since before that referendum. Other than an avoided strike at one of their distilleries there hasn't really been any news Stories about them.

KULR Collaborates with NASA on High-Voltage Battery Safety Guide

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 06:09 AM PDT

CAMPBELL, Calif., Oct. 21, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KULR Technology Group, Inc. (OTCQB: KULR) (the "Company" or "KULR"), a leading developer of battery safety and thermal management technologies, announced that it has completed first phase development for an upcoming NASA high-voltage battery safety guide.

The NASA guide will outline the safety features of the most common commercial-off-the-shelf lithium ion battery cells as well as why and how they can fail, causing a dangerous reaction known as thermal runaway. KULR advised that internal safety devices did not adequately protect the cells from catastrophic events, specifically in cases of overcharging or in high-voltage, high-capacity configurations. KULR's research and technical expertise in battery safety contributed to the findings in the NASA guide.

The NASA safety guide is intended to assist NASA engineers, designers and others develop and deploy energy storage and power sources for future products and missions, including NASA's next generation space suit, which is expected to include high-capacity battery packs. NASA seeks to establish design guidelines for an advanced lithium ion spacesuit battery module that is lightweight, compact, and passively resistant to propagation or thermal runaway due to a single cell hazard.

"If there's one place that battery failure can be catastrophic, it's in a space suit, or in an environment where response and assistance options are limited or non-existent," said Michael Mo, CEO of KULR Technology. "That's why we're continuing to work with NASA, and other partners where battery safety and performance are mission-critical, to understand and ultimately prevent these dangerous battery incidents."

This work continues and builds on KULR's pioneering battery and thermal management collaborations with NASA. Most notably, KULR's thermal runaway shield (TRS), has been shown in government and lab testing to stop or mitigate the impacts of thermal runaway in batteries. In November, NASA will send a TRS solution to the International Space Station to store and protect laptop batteries. Additionally, KULR has exclusively licensed several battery technologies from NASA including the Internal Short Circuit (ISC) and the Fractional Thermal Runaway Calorimeter (FTRC).

    About KULR Technology Group, Inc.

UnitedHealth Group (UNH) DCF analysis gives $488 value (Current Price - $245)

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 02:55 PM PDT

Is this stock severely undervalued or am I making some kind of rookie mistake? I took analyst estimates of around 13% annual earnings growth for 5 years and perpetual growth rate of 2%. I calculated a WACC of 6.8% and this gave me a Fair Value of $488 per share (trades at $245) Have I done something extremely wrong or is this genuinely undervalued?

    What to do?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 09:52 PM PDT

I signed papers into the Navy earlier this week and I now have a $3,000-5,000 bonus once I receive my first paycheck. I would like to start investing in stocks and put some stuff into savings so I can build profit, but I know almost nothing about how the stock market works and what investments to look at. My only idea would be to look at Coca-Cola and Pepsi, but I'm not even sure how that would work out, I just know they won't be falling off the map anytime soon. I ship out on August 26 of 2020 so it's a little ways away, but any insight is much appreciated. Thanks.

What are the best ways a non American can invest in publicly listed American companies?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 04:40 AM PDT

I'm currently residing in UAE, Dubai and have been looking into US Securities for a long time now. I feel the US Financial Markets offer much stronger financial products and services which would cater to my investment goals and appetite.

My only issue is that most US Brokers (Charles Schwabs, E-Trade, Ameritrade etc) do not offer services to individuals who are not American nationals.

I'm currently an Indian National but I've been in UAE for 19 years and will be moving to Europe next year.

If you are aware of any licensed US broker that allows or offers its services to non Americans do mention them in the comments, another issue is that I have no Tax ID or any sort of experience with paying taxes (UAE doesn't have income tax) so I'm not exactly sure what documents I would require to pay taxes on the dividends I earn from my portfolio or any clue of what documents or legalities I need to have a account with a US Broker.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 12:37 AM PDT

Hey, all I am looking at Halliburton Company HAL today as my star pick if the earnings release is indeed negative. I am trading on leverage so I expect a nice 15-20% ROI on the trade. It is going to be a very quick short, an in and out and done take the profit no waiting around or getting greedy. I video is online.
