(Bloomberg) -- California Governor Gavin Newsom wants Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway to make a takeover bid for bankrupt utility giant PG&E Corp.

If Berkshire is interested in buying the San Francisco-based power and natural gas company, now is the time to make an offer, Newsom said Saturday.

"We would love to see that interest materialize, and in a more proactive, public effort," he said in an interview. "That would be encouraging to see. They are one of the few that are in a position to make a significant run at this."

Starbucks will be increasing their dividend payout next week, effect on stock price?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 09:43 AM PDT

So news has been released that Starbucks has almost guaranteed it will be increasing their dividend payout next week

The firm predicts that Starbucks (SBUX) will boost its quarterly payout by 14% to 41 cents a share, up from 36 cents currently.

"We remain committed to returning $25 billion of shareholder capital by the end of fiscal '20 and expect to reach nearly $21 billion by the end of fiscal '19," the company's chief financial officer, Patrick Grismer, said during an earnings call in July.

What does this mean for shareholders and stock price? will we see an increase in the value of equity or potentially some sort of dilution?

I'd love to see some answers on potential short term effects, and if this might relate to anything potentially coming up in earnings.

    TSLA

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 06:04 AM PDT

I've been long on TSLA for TOO LONG. LOL

I bought in at $337 and watched my money flow down the drain for years...

Now I see TSLA is looking up.

I've been holding for a long time. I'm ready to flip a coin on whether to keep or sell while the selling looks good. Good at least from the perspective of the past year - 1/2.

I never bought the stock to make money anyway. I bought it because I believe in the technology. But Ford is releasing the first real American competitor to TSLA and we all know how this has played out with other outsiders who went up against the automotive giants of American in the past...

With that said, I still believe in the technology. Not really happy with Musk's plan to take his car's private and only for some "taxi" service just as the technology gets good enough to start a compelling reason to invest though.

And with the possibility of a Democratic win in 2020 and their 10 year plan to invest over 400 billion in subsidies to jumpstart EV ownership here in America...well that could play out real well for just about everyone in the EV industry.

Comments? Lets argue. Let's share information. Fuck tell me I'm full of shit if you want to.

    AT&T ($T) Predictions

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 10:12 AM PDT

$T is announcing Q3 reports pre-market on Monday. I'm a strong holder and very bullish on their main competitor, $VZ. However, I'm favoring both sides of this wireless duopoly.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.barrons.com/amp/articles/att-earnings-preview-what-to-expect-51571957799

I expect solid returns and projections for the quarter, likely topping Verizon's ~$0.01 beat at EP. Though some analysts are worried about the company's acquisition, straying somewhat from purely wireless sales, including DirecTV, Time Warner, and some smaller subsidiaries, their returns greatly outperform their competitors for the fiscal year, and I believe their reinvestments are properly allocated.

It's too late for me to buy into a market spike, but I believe I probably should have. I expect about a 10% gain some time Monday morning.

    Thoughts?

How do I properly read stock stats like this?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 05:14 PM PDT

I use Yahoo Finance app on my phone when I'm not near a computer. I'm trying to learn more about the stock market.

If I see a market cap listed as 180M, I assume that that is 180 million dollars?

I see Volume as 40.86K. Is that 40,000 shares of total volume making up the whole company or what? But then that doesn't make sense because right after that is the "Avg Vol (3m)" field, which I presume to be average volume over 3 months(?) is 60.90K. Why is it presented like that? How do I read it and can someone please explain the meaning of them in more detailed terms?

One of America's largest trucking companies is quietly closing a Pennsylvania warehouse and will lay off dozens

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 10:06 AM PDT

Swift Logistics, a brokerage and asset-based logistics provider, announced layoffs this week

It said in a letter to Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry on Wednesday that it would close its warehouse in York, effective December 31, and that all 56 employees there would be laid off permanently.

Swift Logistics is an entity within Knight-Swift, the fourth-largest trucking company in the US by revenue. The company did not immediately respond to inquiries from Business Insider.

Knight-Swift announced third-quarter earnings on Wednesday, disclosing that adjusted operating income had plunged by 27.4% from 2018.

A downturn is hitting the trucking industry — and now even large employers are getting slammed

Trucking has faced significant headwinds this year. It has been in a recession since the first half of 2019, according to ACT Research.

Read more: Another 4,200 truck drivers lost their jobs in September as a recession slams America's $800 billion trucking industry

In the first six months of 2019, about 640 trucking companies closed, according to industry data from Broughton Capital cited by The Wall Street Journal. That was more than triple the number from the same period last year, 175.

America slashed 9,300 trucking payrolls in September and August alone.

The recession in trucking has especially affected small carriers, who operate largely on the spot market.

Trucking loads can be picked up on demand through the spot market or through a prearranged contract. The contract market makes up most of the trucking market, according to the American Trucking Associations.

Spot-market rates have crashed in 2019, while contract market rates haven't seen the same dip.

But these layoffs from Swift Logistics suggest again that the trucking industry's contraction is affecting large companies too.

Roadrunner, the 31st-largest trucker in the US, announced last month that it was cutting 10% of its total workforce, all in its "unprofitable" dry-van sector.

Cold Carriers, a refrigerated trucking company with about 400 truck drivers, filed for bankruptcy protection late last month; it said it would continue operations as it restructures its debt obligations.

Meanwhile, industry leaders like J.B. Hunt and Schneider have slashed their annual outlooks this year.

I'm bullish on esports in the long term. Which stocks should I consider?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2019 09:06 PM PDT

One of the obvious choices is Activision. But because of the quite-recent controversy with the hearthstone gamer, I sort of don't want to put money in it.

Any other choices? Probably besides AMZN as they own twitch.tv

    Factor Investing?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 04:28 AM PDT

    Hello guys,

I have been investing, for almost a year, in total stock ETFs(market-cap-weighted).

I have been reading a lot lately about Factor Investing (mainly on Value and size).

Anyone implementing a factor portfolio or buying factor ETFS?

how to prioritize? What should I buy first? Tax deferred, 30+ year outlook.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 03:40 AM PDT

Hello! For the last year or so I've been feeding funds into VIG and VTI. I'm looking to have 50% in these two just for safety, but it's the other 50% I want to build with individual stocks. My account is a tax deferred account with an annual limit of 12,000 and because of the tax deference I'd like to focus on dividend growth stocks mainly, however I'm open to standard growth plays. For example, I recently made a bunch of money from selling my TESLA shares.

My problem is that I have a longggg watchlist and not sure how to prioritize. So far I'm just looking for dips, but are there any stocks out there that people consider MUST HAVES or NO BRAINERS?

Considering the tax deference and long time frame, I'm thinking some dividend aristocrats might be good picks. Maybe Facebook? Apple, Disney with their upcoming tv services. ATT for the dividends. Costco with it's more than likely international growth (I live in japan and it's hugely popular).

Anyway, open ended question. Would love to hear what everyone thinks
