Where would you share a giveway to help start a handcraft business ?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 02:47 AM PDT

    Hello !

I started a giveaway to help get my business known but so far, the strategy I've used to promote the giveaway doesn't seem to be working. I've made Instagram posts using giveaway related hashtags, facebook posts and I've also shared it on my personal accounts.

Where would you share small giveaways ? I would also love to hear your success/failure stories with past giveaways, hopefuly it will help others in this sub :)

    Photographer wondering where to start.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 11:30 AM PDT

Hey so here's some general info.

I live in Ontario, I have second shot a dozen weddings and done a bit of portrait work but all of it has been paid under the table. I'm planning on expanding into a full business with a website, my own wedding clients, and therefore some considerable income. It's just me working for this company and I don't see myself making more than 35000 in the first year. I'm 20 years old with good credit and no student debt. Any advice would be super helpful, thanks!

    Getting wood parts made?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 12:27 AM PDT

    Hello,

I've been wanting to create product, specifically a wood furniture kit for a model of airsoft gun. However, what I've been working on at home (one at a time by hand) is a slow and inefficient process.

    There's kits like:

https://www.evike.com/products/67770/ & https://www.evike.com/products/48542/ , that are obviously made in a factory with fancier tooling, but I'm not sure what kind of business would be able to manufacture my design? Frankly, I don't know what kind of tooling they use for something like those, especially for producing en-masse.

Any advice on who to contact to get a similar set of parts made?

    Thanks!

    Finding distributors

How many potential buyers did you meet for your business, before you actually sold it?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 01:41 PM PDT

How many potential buyers did you meet/they visit to see the business before you actually sold it?

I posted my business on Craigslist and met some people so far and none of them followed up. I am tired of wasting my time meeting people who won't even buy at the end.

So yeah... How many did you have to meet before you sold it?

How did you tell a serious buyer from one who is just "window shopping"?

    Any luck with Remote Assistants?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 03:21 AM PDT

Hi, long time lurker here. I hit the search bar but any remote assistant threads are very old. Wanted to see if any of you have had luck with any remote assistant companies?

I am a sole photographer business and theres just things I would love to delegate ie: social media, submitting to contests, finding local businesses to collaborate with, track down new job leads etc.

The only small caveat is money is a little tight for this so I am thinking an overseas VA is the way to go. But I suppose if there is a very effective American company id be willing to spend a little more.

    Thank you!!!

What is the best way to get someone who is trying to buy products from me through credit card fraud?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 11:23 AM PDT

Someone recently stole around $5,000 from me because I wasn't being careful, buying items from my online store with stolen credit cards and I didn't catch them. Now the same person is doing it again, although this time I'm not falling for it. What is the best way to get this person caught? I can literally call them and they would be impersonating the person on the billing address. Any ideas?

No gr12, On EI, Got an idea, but struggling to form it all.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 01:37 AM PDT

Hello, I think I have a good idea for a business in a niche market. The market is Halloween diy props and kits designed to work in extreme cold environments.

I'm an idiot for not getting my grade 12, but I am smart enough to work my way around a PCB, soldering gun, and all the various tools needed to build animatronic Halloween props as well as static props. I can't make them pretty, but that's where my wife and her family generally take over. My wife's family has run a haunted house for 5 years now and get roughly 3-5,000 visitors per year, so I have first hand experience with what a large variety of props can and can't do and more importantly what they should and shouldn't be doing in cold environments. Recent life events have also led to a move for me and my wife, which is why I'm able to take a year off and sit on EI and try to hatch "work for myself" plans.

That move was to Nunavut, which to my mind presents an extremely good selling feature to my products. "Arctic tough testing." I can put my products out on the arctic tundra in -60°C weather and run it for extended times with cameras on it to prove to clients that it will work in their front yards when Halloween weather can vary from +10°c to -15°c and break the brittle plastic and wires with their own movements. A common problem where our haunt is based and a niche I don't think is being exploited (no stealsies!)

The shipping flaw of being in a remote northern location becomes a selling feature when it provides proof it will work in all weather on your front lawn. Shipping can also be moved south if demand outpaces the ability for the local post office to cope, but this is a somewhat niche market as population tends to thin out the further north you go. (God, I'm lonely. j/k)

Now, I will be using this year off to get my grade 12 as well as build my brand, since blowing this prime opportunity to do so would be... well, about as dumb as being 31 with no grade 12. My struggle is with forming the financials of my business. I've watched many videos and looked at many "tutorials" but I'm finding the information on how to gather the information your business plan requires. Like, do I just go through, say, digikey, add up all the quantities and prices of the various parts I need, add 10-15% for shipping and taxes? Any help or links would be appreciated. It seems like Google is filled with somewhat predatory ads that are more about selling you stuff for your small business to the point where the real good information is buried and hidden.

I should also mention that at the making of this post I have I believe 90% of the tools and supplies I would need to start r&d on my products so that I have kits ready and waiting to sell. I will also be able to save a small amount of money to put into the business when we do launch late 2020 as well as knock a significant portion of my debt down to facilitate getting a business loan if necessary. And I have a few grants eyed up for that I've been told by local people are peanuts to get. A lot of people start a small business selling simple products, baked goods like bread and buns for example, just to get the grants up here. Which seems a bit shady to me, but to each their own. Life ain't exactly easy up here so I struggle to fault them for finding a way to survive up here when resources are so limited.

Thank you for your time. Don't mind my username, this is an alt so that my family doesn't know I'm planning this before I'm ready to announce it to them. (Key members know so nobody is really out of the loop just for your peace of mind lol) also, if you think I should edit out information from this post please let me know. Gut feeling is tell as much as I feel comfortable so you guys have a better chance at helping me.

I want to start a business selling a frozen baked good (to be baked by customer). I have no idea what first steps to take.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 06:46 PM PDT

Like the title says, I have zero idea where to start. I'm not trying to do anything huge, I just want to sell some of my frozen desserts at farmer's markets and online in a legal way. I need to learn what certifications I'll need and where I'll need to prepare my food in order for it to meet legal requirements, etc, etc. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!

Edit: Changed some parts to make it less confusing.

I am going to purchase something that is modest but good in the snow and I was wondering if this is something I can expense through my business (still in my first year) should I buy the tires for my car through the business or, buy them personally?

Starting a Gaming Event Hosting and Marketing Company.

Hello, I am living in Tennessee and I am 24 Years old and I am seeking advice on how to start a company or LLC for Gaming events. I would like to know if this is a good idea or not. There is nothing here locally that does this and I see it is such in high demand and popularity right now for gaming. From my understanding and current research for start up is going to be the hardware and marketing/advertisement as well as venues. The profit side of it would eventually be from local sponsorships and attendance. I am still researching things that are similar to these kind of events and seeing where profit is and can be made and I want to do the math to see where how much spent is less than how much made. I do not need a facility to run the business but I will need popularity to prosper. I would love some advice and a better understanding on starting this or making it a reality.

I feel like everywhere I look, especially within companies, I see processes and workflows that could be automated.

As someone who does automation professionally, I'm thinking about starting a small business, but I'd like to get a feel for what's out there.

So, small business Redditors, put your thinking caps on and tell me, what do you wish you could have automated about your business?

Marketing Manager needing help reorganizing my employer's entire company and sites; desperately need omni-channel input

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 03:07 PM PDT

I'm trying to coordinate all the aspects of my employer's company. I'll try to explain thoroughly and concisely.

    We sell large equipment.

4 retail stores, all with different names focused on their geographic location in our state, and the brands we carry vary slightly between them.

2 websites - one ecommerce, one primarily for leads.

Six Facebook and Instagram pages, one for each of those ^

We want chat, CRM, custom forms for leads and financing, social media integration, and an entire new ecommerce platform (current one is a specialized platform for our field of retail - large equipment). We grew from one store to four in 30 years, so now I'm trying to make it all work together. Keeping up with leads from all avenues and integrating with channels like eBay and Amazon.

I've been tinkering with Zoho One, but it seems to have a lotta bugs. Also with 3dCart. Also, bugs. Using Zapier to tie everything together. I need some direction on... well, anything. My brain is fried at this point, after researching endlessly, tinkering, and hitting dead ends left and right.

Thank you for any advice you can give. They have overloaded themselves and I'm trying my best to salvage everyone's jobs moving forward.

    Instagram marketing help

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 06:46 PM PDT

My business is very new to the Instagram marketing deal, while im pretty familiar with Instagram from my other business, this new account had reached 2500 people on its first post, the second reached 12, the third... 10, the fourth...28. How or why is our post being seen by so few people? We post at peak times and use very relevant hashtags. Content is good too. We're literally just not getting the viewer #s necessary to grow. Any suggestions on how we can have our post reach more than double digits? Or why is this happening?

    Help! SaaS Subscription Leaks

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 02:15 PM PDT

One of my least enjoyable findings in doing expenses is finding out a loose SaaS subscription I or my partner have been paying for months without using. They are usually small but build up gradually because I'm an entrepreneur whose core skill set is bootstrapping on these services to build my own newfound product so I tend to use lots of them.

Sometimes, I almost feel like these products actually profit from my busy and chaotic life. This is especially hard when today clearing your inbox to zero is next to impossible, thanks to these subscriptions themselves which use emails as a way to communicate just about anything. Guilty as charged, my inbox was an overloaded mess, but I know my way around it and prefer not to pay attention to product updates. This has kept me from being informed about all the small stuff each of this subscription sends me about. It is just too easy to slip and get all these subscription leaks in your life.

I think these subscription models are popular because they are easy and more predictable for companies selling the products. I'd do it too. Why wouldn't I? The revenues aren't based on how much the customers like me use the product or even successful using it. It is somewhat not different from selling packaged software on CDs like in the 2000s, only with the price chopped down and distributed monthly. Worse, now they're aggressively trying to nudge me into signing up for annual subscriptions (Only $29/mo, $10/mo discount, with a very small text saying that it's actually annual and you'd be paying $348 on the spot. Oh you'd be surprised how good their UX made people signed up thinking they were paying just $29/mo).

IMHO, customers' success or failure doesn't seem to directly correlate with how much these SaaS products are charging us. It's so binary--either you pay or you leave your happy place (and churn, because we care more about people who pay annually).

Of course, it's also my responsibility to unsubscribe to these products, but what if I loved the product but the product doesn't love me back (A popular blogging platform that advertises its open-sourciness: "Before you go, can we offer 30% off for the next 3 months?". Wait, do you even care that I'm paying 5 different products monthly and I've been surviving on ramen for the whole month now)?

The only scenario customers like me will benefit from these subscriptions is if they become successful enough to cover the expenses, which are increasing. But in contrast, most startups and entrepreneurs won't ever get to that point, or they simply will after some time much longer. Meanwhile, they can't just keep paying monthly to get there.

Not all products fall into this category though. Productized subscriptions do make sense such as to those offering physical or tangible products customers get the benefit out right away no matter what, for instance, cloud storage, unlimited file downloads, spreadsheet software, etc.

But many SaaS businesses are B2B, which means they help another business to succeed. However, they're unnecessarily adding subscription leaks to customers without a more fine-grained and granular way to meter their usage, and the reason why they are charging higher monthly fees and give discounts on annual subscriptions is that the competitions are so fierce most customers won't stick around for a year.

Has anyone running an SMB or startup ever felt this way? I'm building a SaSS (well more like IaSS for now) so I definitely understand the business side and this isn't meant to scrutinize monthly subs (most of the products are great), but as a user who's bootstrapping it's just demoralizing to keep tracks of all these subscriptions because they charge flat fees each month no matter if I'm using it enough unlike my rent, which I'm always benefiting from because I never go out.

    Is IT Services still relevant?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 05:51 PM PDT

IT Services and Support are my passion but there isn't much demand for it. I can also do Web Design & Ecommerce in WordPress, Shopify, etc. Now I have more people asking me if I can design websites and do the SEO, digital marketing and strategy. I am doing it but I enjoy solving IT problems 100 times more but I'm a lil bit disappointed there's not much demand. Is anyone else going through same motions?

    Where to get funds?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 08:34 PM PDT

I don't know where to begin. I officially created an LLC in June and my business name was officially trademarked and live as of a couple days ago. I am in the process of trademarking a slogan as well.

I have all the gears going, website, social media, etc, but I have NO MONEY. My Manufactuer in Turkey will not accept me paying for inventory with my business AMEX, and I cannot get any business loans since I have no revenue and my business is new. We're a online home linen company. I'm stuck and it's depressing. Where the hell do I get money from? I feel like everyone is running the race and I'm stuck at the start line.

Approaching a Charity to donate a share of my stores profits.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 03:21 PM PDT

Does anybody have any experience approaching charities to develop an arrangement like this? Is there a protocol or is just a case of sending an email?

Without linking anything we recently started a website called Send a Sloth where you guessed it you can send a toy Sloth to your loved ones. Its gone surprisingly well in the 2 weeks of launch however I would really like a portion of the profits to go to a Sloth/Animal Welfare related charity this would be an amazing cause however I've already reached out to one charity however and its been a fair amount of time and I haven't received a reply. Not disheartened but before I approach other charities/spend time researching that they are right to give donate to I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

Thank you for your help /r/SB

    Business Idea?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 05:35 PM PDT

    Hello all!

I'm 26 years old, halfway finished with my Master's degree in Social Work, and I have (what I believe to be) an awesome idea for a business/company.

I know almost nothing (read: absolutely nothing) about business, but I'm incredibly excited and passionate about this idea. (Note: I do intend to complete some Business Management/Administrative courses when I finish this MSW degree. One thing at a time 🙃)

I'm interested in starting the foundations of planning and information-gathering for the business/business plan and proposal, etc etc, BUT I have no idea where or how to begin. I have a concept. I have a name. That's about it.

ANY information or personal experience that you all can provide or resources that I can look into would be SUPER helpful.

    Thanks!
