GOV has a 20%+ dividend right now... Posted: 28 Nov 2018 08:44 AM PST On one hand it's a trust that holds a ton of government property that has dipped before to similar extremes. On the other hand, the 20%+ dividend puts it in the probably too good to be true category for me. Just curious if anyone has any compelling arguments for or against. [link] [comments] |
What reasons are there for a stock to change exchanges? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 05:54 AM PST Read an article about Newell changing from NYSE to Nasdaq in December. Why would this happen? [link] [comments] |
What are your go-to long term hold stocks? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 07:28 AM PST Hi, Fairly new to trading, trying to build my portfolio for long term growth (10-20 years). Current portfolio is around $5000 and I'm adding at a rate of $1000/mo. I currently have the following: AMD ~5% NTDOY ~5% MSFT ~10% UNH ~10% JPM ~10% V ~10% Broad ETFs: ~50% SPY VOO VTI I was considering something in aerospace like Boeing, maybe Illumina in the sciences, maybe WM (because I heard that somewhere, I duno). Eventually maybe add some Apple, Amazon, Google, but those are expensive as hell at the moment for a portfolio my size. What are some stocks that you feel are reliable long term holds and I would also love to hear why. Thanks very much! [link] [comments] |
Interesting stock market fact of the day: Bullish Newsletter writers at lowest level since May 2016 Posted: 28 Nov 2018 05:18 AM PST Investor Intelligence, a technical analysis research site, suggests bullish stocks newsletter writers are at the lowest level since May 2016 at 38.3% of total stocks newsletter writers – typically, this is a contrarian signal and historically, has pointed to "bottoms" in corrections to stocks valuations. Time to buy the dip? Rational man thesis supports the argument that Trump-Xi meeting will yield "something positive". [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 01:31 PM PST So after the recent price drop in Apple's stock, I wondered whether it's a good time to buy. Honestly Apple strikes me as a fabulous business, with a huge moat, managed by a good management team, and now selling at a reasonable price. Moreover, the phone market has now reached a point where there is not major innovation going on, which makes it even easier for Apple to maintain its moat while still increasing revenue and profits. So what are your thoughts on Apple? Would you consider buying it now? [link] [comments] |
Stock graph with key milestones denoted on the graph Posted: 28 Nov 2018 10:17 AM PST Hello All, I was wondering is there a app or website where they will show stocks graph along with key news milestones depicted on the graph as a overlay? Example -

Posted: 28 Nov 2018 07:54 AM PST The G20 summit begins this Friday 11/30. However I'm itching to buy stocks right now as the market is looking a little more healthy. If there's good news and I wait till Monday to buy, the stock market may jump over the weekend. On the other hand, the market could take a major hit. Should I buy now or wait? [link] [comments] |
Profit growth over the last 10 years in the tech sector Posted: 28 Nov 2018 09:40 AM PST Graph of this issue: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DtFqnAZXcAAV0ck.jpg Amid the incessant geopolitical tumult coming out of Washington and elsewhere, tech stocks have served as an island to which investors have been able to retreat and earn outsized returns. In fact, there's an argument to be made that the sector actually has benefited from some of the more prominent headline risks. Tech stands to gain perhaps more than any other sector if President Donald Trump's saber-rattling trade strategy works out, and the administration-backed tax cuts have put more money in shareholders' pockets through a history-making jump in share buybacks that have been skewed toward the sector. All in all, tech has served a multitude of purposes, from a cyclical play amid economic growth and rising interest rates, and as pure quality amid fears that corporate profits are peaking. "They're really not driven by a lot of these headline macro variables. They've also stayed out of the Washington limelight in terms of being part of a tweetstorm or what have you," said Matthew Bartolini, head of SPDR Americas Research at State Street Global Advisors. "They're going to be more heavily driven by fundamentals, which continue to be supportive. Do you think the tech sector will continue to perform like in the shown graph? The exponential growth is crazy, and the stock market bumps will be hard on the way, I think [link] [comments] |
American Automobile Industry in Turmoil? (Ford and GM struggling) Posted: 28 Nov 2018 06:48 AM PST Hello all, It seems that all american auto companies are struggling really bad. How do you think this effects the future of automobiles themselves. Also, it seems that dodge/ram is the only american company that hasn't posted closures yet - does that have any indication for them or will it be coming soon? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 10:07 AM PST Never owned stock other than 401k. I would like to invest but the entire process seems overwhelming. How do you start? How did you start? What is the minimum investment worth starting with? [link] [comments] |
I would love to hear your thoughts on LOW and HD. Both are in heavy competition and volatile. Posted: 28 Nov 2018 09:29 AM PST The recent leadership change at LOW has seen their stock jump up $30-40 and then back over a quarter. HD has a commanding lead they've held for some time. Need some thoughts. [link] [comments] |

Can a foreigner invest in the US Stock market? If so, how to? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 06:57 AM PST I'm from Sri Lanka. I'm currently trading in Colombo Stock Exchange. I'm interested to know if i can invest in foreign Stocks and what are the restrictions/conditions etc.. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 11:55 AM PST A food delivery service called WAITR (https://waitrapp.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoMjZvLXf3gIVGI_ICh1sQgw6EAAYASAAEgIxZvD_BwE) was just purchased and went public in a $308 million dollar merger agreement by a holding company owned by T.J. Ferttita (the owner of the golden nugget casinos, Landry's restaurants, the Houston Rockets, and the host of Billion Dollar TV on CNBC). https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20181115006138/en/Landcadia-Holdings-Completes-Acquisition-Waitr-Incorporated The details of the acquisition, SEC filings, WAITR financial reports, etc: https://www.landcadiaholdings.com The merger occurred on November 15th with an affirmative share holder vote. The holding company's name "Lancadia Holdings" ($LCA) was renamed WAITR Holdings ($WTRH). WAITR operates much in the same way as other food delivery services except for its flat fee delivery rate. Whether it's a $10 order or a $10,000 dollar order the delivery fee is still $5. This is somewhat steep for the individual consumer but they make up for it in business bulk lunch orders where money is saved when using WAITR as opposed to the delivery pricing of other services. WAITR's key market strategy is to serve underserved markets in rural and developing towns and cities in the southeast United States. They are growing RAPIDLY and even in markets where they're in competition with the big boys they're holding their own with 40% of the market share (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/grubhub-rival-just-raised-estimates-144243633.html?.tsrc=rss) Between $11-14 seems to be a fair entry point for a mid to long position in many's estimation. The only obstacle may be low number of outstanding shares and low volume. Both of which can be rectified in the future. Might be a good chance to long the food delivery market at a low cost. Considering it's too late to get in with GrubHub, and considering Postmates and Uber don't go public till next year the current share price seems more than reasonable. [link] [comments] |
Question about buying individual stocks Posted: 28 Nov 2018 07:27 AM PST I think that Marijuana stocks could be a great investment but I don't know how to individually buy into this. Any advice? I'm very concerned about being ripped off. [link] [comments] |
Not sure whether to sell or hold my L Brands (LB) shares. Need advice. Posted: 28 Nov 2018 02:01 PM PST I have been holding onto this stock for way to long and am not sure if i should cut my losses or hold long in hopes it will bounce back. I bought this stock at ~$64 a share, and now its about half of that. I am no longer an active trader like i used to be and have been re-evaluating my portfolio. Would i be better off selling and reinvesting in maybe an ETF? [link] [comments] |

Have We Reached Peak iPhone Demand? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 12:57 PM PST https://www.lastevenswealth.com/blank/dying-iphone-sales Since many of you disliked my piece on a Chinese value play (I don't really blame you), I decided to provide a value play that epitomizes American reliability and consistency. To answer my own question: yes, but you should probably still buy. Check out the article to find out why! [link] [comments] |
Best NONqualified dividend paying stocks? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 11:16 AM PST Looking for the best dividend stocks to put into My tax advantage accounts. Figured non qualified since they'd have higher yield than qualified (due to multiple tax issues hindering realized gains). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 11:01 AM PST I invested $5100, just cleared all my positions, and now have $5400. I'm worried if market will become more bearish and volatile for near future. Do you have any recommendation about what to buy/sell? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2018 03:43 AM PST Which company do you think has a brighter future? I'm not concerned about current valuations but for future growth and dividend growth? I lean toward Pepsi due to the fact that they own Frito-Lay. [link] [comments] |
Why has VLO had such a sudden and steep drop? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 08:56 AM PST I have a lot in that company from years ago. Should I hold on and hope for them to return high or just sell now? [link] [comments] |
When are capital gains tax liabilities incurred? Posted: 28 Nov 2018 08:52 AM PST Are capital gains tax liabilities calculated against trade settlements, or at year-end? For example... January: $1,000 gains February: $1,000 gains March: $1,000 gains April: $1,000 gains May: $1,000 gains June: $1,000 gains July: $1,000 gains August: $1,000 gains September: $1,000 gains October: $1,000 gains November: $1,000 gains December: $11,000 losses Assuming a 25% tax rate, would the tax liability be $0, because the year-end gains were $0, or, would the tax liability be 25% of the $11,000 gains, regardless of the realized losses at the end?
