Bank of America says this is a ‘make or break’ quarter for Netflix Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:07 AM PDT "Heading into 3Q earnings, we see a make or break quarter for Netflix," Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst Nat Schindler tells clients. The more cautious tone comes on the heels of a tough summer for Netflix, which has seen the price of its stock fall nearly 30% in under three months. Netflix, which reports earnings on Oct. 16, has never missed the company's subscriber guidance two quarters in a row. [link] [comments] |

The move comes within a week of Interactive Brokers, Charles Schwab and TD Ameritrade all dropping their commission fees. E-Trade estimates a quarterly revenue impact of $75 million from dropping fees. Fidelity should be the next one, let's party, this is a big victory for all retail investors, cheer🍺🍻🍶🥃. Which broker does NOT sell your order flow/data? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 12:02 AM PDT I don't know why everybody and their mothers are getting so excited at the prospect of $0 trading fees. There is no free lunch. The lost revenue from $0 fees are being made up from somewhere, most likely brokerages are selling your order flow or other data. Frankly I would rather pay MORE fees to not have my broker sell my orders. Is there a list of brokers who do not sell your order flow/data? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2019 01:59 PM PDT Electric car maker Tesla's third-quarter vehicle deliveries fell short of investor expectations, despite reaching a record 97,000 vehicles. The company's stock tumbled by more than 4% in after-hours trading on the news Wednesday. Analysts expected Tesla to deliver 99,000 vehicles during the third quarter, including 80,200 Model 3s, according to data compiled by FactSet. During the second quarter, Tesla delivered a record 95,200 electric vehicles, blowing away analysts' estimates of 91,000. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/02/tesla-tsla-3q-2019-production-and-delivery-numbers.html [link] [comments] |

US set to impose tariffs on $7.5bn of EU exports in Airbus row Posted: 02 Oct 2019 11:04 AM PDT https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49906815 Looks like a bumpy road ahead, with the EU now bound to press forward with moves against Boeing. Do you think this EU dispute will stay limited to the $7.5bn as set out by the WTO, or after the EU inevitably retaliate the start of the kind of one upmanship we've seen with China? VTI alternative with no dividend? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 12:50 AM PDT I have a Merrill account which I like due to the 0 fee trading and convenience with my BoA account /direct deposit. Only problem is that I don't want to pay tax on the dividends, and reinvesting them is a pain. Any alternatives that don't pay dividends, or automatically reinvest to save dividend tax? Also, is this the only difference between VTI and the mutual fund version, VTSAX? Any hidden fees or reasons not to bite the bullet and switch to vanguard, other than inconvenience? Vanguard etfs or 18 unit residential complex Posted: 02 Oct 2019 08:05 PM PDT Hey all, I would like your input on this and if need be I will cross post in a real estate forum. I've found a 9 duplex complex for $450k, 12 of the units are rented out at $475 a month and the other 6 need to be remodeled. Two of the duplexes need new roofs and ceiling repair. The 6 units need paint, carpet, hvac, water heater, paint, countertops , kitchen appliances, and kitchen cabinets. All units look to be 1 bed 1 bath, I haven't gone on a tour of the place as I'm still looking at the numbers. Right now ive calculated 95k for down payment and 70k for repairs. I would be taking this out of vanguard investment account. Off the bat, the property produced 68k a year, when the additional 6 are remodeled, the property will produce 102k a year. Of course this doesn't take into account vacancy rate and repairs. My question is, is this worth looking into and am I missing anything? Generally just curious about what you all think. Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:20 AM PDT Also, from what I can tell, a Long Straddle is higher losses up to a point than a Long Strangle, but faster / more potential gains. While a Long Strangle is less expensive to get into, but slower gains. So it seems like Long Strangles are better for people with a smaller amount to invest than Long Straddles. Am I correct in my thinking or? I appreciate any and all insight. Thank you for any replies. [link] [comments] |
With all these brokerages going to no fee trades, how do they make money? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:00 AM PDT |
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:58 AM PDT I have some stupid questions for you guys, but don't judge me: 1. Dividend investing: when you invest in some ETF and the ETF contains companies that pay dividends, how are the dividends paid to you? Is the proportional share of the dividend transferred to your brokerage account in cash? 2. Shareholder status: do companies know all their shareholders at a particular point in time? Let's say Microsoft. Is there a list of all the shareholders of this company? I'm 25, but it seems that in the past things were way more simple, as you received an actual piece of paper proving you're a shareholder, and I would guess the company had all names of the shareholders. Don't know how that works now. 3. Voting rights: when I'm a shareholder I have the right to vote on several issues/topics. However, how does that work if there are millions and millions of shareholders? How is my vote placed? 4. Information on email: if I buy a stock, do I receive information about the current situation of the company on my email for example? Do I receive the 10-Ks and all those fillings directly, or do I have to go get those online? Thank you very much for the help!! [link] [comments] |
Why are brokerages removing commissions? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:54 AM PDT Everyone seems to think this is a great... but what's the catch? I remember there used to be something called ZECCO that gave free trades before Robinhood. That eventually got bought out and consolidated out of existence. Is that what these brokerages are headed towards? Are their AIs so good now they can win always win against us? How are they going to make money now? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:51 AM PDT I own a few total stock market funds. One is a Mutual Fund that only pays the dividend once a year (In December). The others with a nearly identical cost to own the fund pays a quarterly dividend. I find it interesting the total stock market mutual fund (FSKAX) that pays its dividend only in December (Once a year) has the same total return as the ETF's that pay 4 quarterly dividends. (SPTM or ITOT or VTI) Or others that pay a monthly dividend. What is going on? Results based on total return since 2011 and reinvesting the dividend in the Mutual Fund or ETF. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Oct 2019 11:39 AM PDT Seeing as how if America's economy went down, it's highly likely the whole worlds economies go down with it, what do you guys think would happen to the American stock market if say Deutsche Bank collapses and the Italian debt crisis happens? Do you think this hurts the American economy enough on its own to cause a recession? [link] [comments] |
