I'm launching an app that pays users whenever they play basketball - 7 days away HELP

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 05:11 PM PDT

Hey, I created an app that pays people to play pickup sports. I have a private beta version releasing on the 5th exactly 7 days from now. Private Beta is <500 I've been working on this concept for about 3 years now my question is for anyone that has launched an app in the past.

What data should I be tracking?

What should I be looking for in this first limited release?

What are some common mistakes first time app developers make?

Could you give me some feedback/concerns on the concept?

What makes a successful launch successful?

    HOW THE APP WORKS

You earn credits for wins and points scored. Credits are worth a set value Ex. 200 credits = $5

Once you earn you take your credits and challenge other users 1 v 1. So Say you have 190 credits

You could put 10 credits up against another user 1 v 1 in basketball

    Win and you're at 200 , Lose and you're back to 180

    ⠀⠀

THERE ARE FOUR WAYS TO EARN

    1. Quickplay - Earn when you play 4 v 4 or 5 v 5 (by yourself) playing at your usual park or gym Singleplayer

    2. Challenge Mode - Take what you earned and put it up against friends 1 v 1. Winner takes all Multiplayer

    3. Spectator Mode - Waiting to play next? Enter points & results and earn while sitting on the sidelines Multiplayer

    4. The Playbook - We send you daily, weekly, & monthly task to complete Singlplayer

    HOW POINTS ARE TRACKED

Quickplay - You enter the points on your own after you play

Challenge Mode - You play then after both users confirm a winner. Dispute are handled with the spec mode and fair play ⠀

Spectator Mode - Spec mode let's you keep track of any quickplay or challenge games you see. The more accurate you spectate the more you earn

The PLaybook - Unique task that I send you to complete daily, weekly, & monthly

    WHAT ABOUT CHEATING?

    1) Geo-Location locked: You can only activate Quickplay at Coast 2 Coast approved locations. You can add your own if you don't see yours listed⠀⠀⠀

    3) Limits: You get a limited amount of challenges and quickplay games a day. This is to prevent Cheating. There is a 15 minute lock that starts once you activate quickplay that prevents you from just entering your results back-to- back

    2) Spectator Mode: Spectators earn money for recording wins & points scored in active quickplay and challenge games. The more accurate you record results the more you earn⠀

Me vs Shark Tank Hoop Maps Similar Y/N = N

The app on Shark Tank allowed you to find and locate pickup games. My app pays users to play basketball, football, & soccer AND challenge people 1 on 1 and take what they earned. I wouldn't classify our apps as similar to be honest. Think Pokemon Go' for athletes, or NBA 2K in real life

    Traction Beta Y/N = Y

Private beta released on November 5th, 2019

    16K+ On Instagram

    3500+ likes on Facebook

    Kickstarter raised about 20K

    Sign up list 25K+

    Sales $1400 (Hoodie Sales)

    Sports Basketball Only? Y/N = N

We support basketball, football, and soccer while hoping to add volleyball and ultimate frisbee soon!

Free or Paid = Free + In app purchases + Subscription + Paid version

    REVENUE MODEL

    In app Purchases

When you challenge someone and lose. You will want your revenge! Currently you are not allowed to challenge the same person 2x in one day. This prevents a group of friends from challenging each other and rewarded the same dude the winner just to build up credits. However challenge s are sold for for $.99c. If you buy a pack of 4 challenges you are allowed to challenge the same person another time in that 24 hour time span.

This is just one of the in app purchases that I plan to monetize with the app others include:

    In depth Scouting report

The ability to upload more then one highlight on your profile page

The ability to link your BitEmoji to the app on your character screen

    Character fits customization

Ability to unlock taunting an opponent

    Tier 2 Rewards

Clear your record if you start horribly Example: 2-27. Get a fresh 0-0 record

    Affiliate Link

Users can only check out using our in app browser. When they go to check out they will click on our Affiliate link which will bring them to (Ex.) Amazon. Now anything they purchases we get a percentage back. That in addition to the amount of ads that they would have to watch while earning credits.

    Hoodies

Our official hoodies let you rep your city on the front and back and are highly customizable. I make a profit of about 28$ per hoodie sold. Currently sold out.

    One Time Purchase

The app is free but a lot of features such as earning twice as fast, and unlocking amazon rewards are exclusive to the paid version.

    Spectator Mode

Millions of users hit the streets and play basketball. We'll go with Florida, Texas, and New York

So these users play sports they all activate Coast 2 Coast and let app know they're playing a game (Ad 1) Skip to the nighttime they have to confirm all of their points (Ad 2) but back to the present.

People watching the game spectate the game which allows them to earn credits: Using this system the app keeps the users to keep the app open and running similar to a gaming app. So that whole time their recording steals, blocks, and points, Going live on Facebook and Instagram from the app...I'm running ads sometimes banner sometimes relevant interstellar, that's revenue (Ad 3)

A user goes to spend 20$ he made using the app on Amazon. He can only check out through our in app browser through our affiliate link (Revenue stream 3)

    CHEATING = BOTS

Bots and cheating was the first thing we took into account. I am not claiming to have thought of everything but some things we just won't know until we mass launch and see how users are going to try and cheat the system. However that being said......I have implemented some unique ideas with the help of developers who were more then happy to give me advice.

    1. Captcha - No need to explain this you know what it is
    2. Verify by picture- To use Coast 2 Coast there will be a picture shown. You must match the description of this picture and take a picture just like it to have your profile confirmed for cash out. I have an example of this in my kickstarter but how it works is there will be a generic picture shown (A man with his thumb down tongue sticking up) you will have to take a picture that matches (this will never be shown and only used for authentication purposes
    3. Honey pot - The honey pot method is something that I LOVE. What it does is create a hidden field when signing up that only a spam bot can see. For you the user it is a hidden field that you can't see but a spam bot will be able to find it fill it out. Therefore.....bot. A human wouldn't fill it out or touch it because they can't see it, they can't navigate to it with the "TAB" key, it's not detectable to anyone but a bot
    4. Facebook - This one is common sense you must link your Facebook, or Instagram to the account

    CHEATING = PEOPLE

    Spectator Mode

Spectator mode allows users that are waiting to play the opportunity to keep the game honest and fair. They can take out their phones and run "Spectator Mode" which allows them to track each other shots and make sure nobody is cheating. WHY WOULD SOMEBODY SPECTATE? BECAUSE YOU EARN CREDITS WHILE YOU DO. Users take out their phones and they ref the game recording points as they see them. Once they do this this allows me to run banner ads at the bottom of the screen 24/7. Business wise I noticed that gaming apps make the most amount of money while staying free. Spectator mode allows for this to happen. Add into the fact that you will soon be able to go live on Spectator mode on both Instagram and Facebook.

    Common Sense

There is another way. Basketball games are played first game to 15 next game 11 or 12. You cant make 40 shots. To the average player makes 2 or 3 the elites make 8-10 that's it. You get 5 quickplay games a day 2 challenges.

So the max max max you could enter is 15. 5x a day. If you tell me you score 15 out of 15 every single day for 3 weeks (Which is our limit btw.) After 3 weeks our logic reviews your point total vs hrs played vs location) then you're lying. Nobody makes 15 out of 15 I've played ball my entire life.

    Challenge Record

Third way is your challenge record. Challenge a user is when you play someone 1 on 1 for credits. You get two a day. Unlock a third by watching 5 video ads. You can not challenge the same person twice. But on to the cheating.... if your challenge record is 10-24 why are you so raw that you are recording 14 shots out of a possible 15...but when somebody challenges you ya get your butt whooped....no your lying

We will not ding you because we think that you are cheating. That would make millions of users frustrated and mad. What our logic looks for are patterns. The app is popular now in Florida but not a lot of people are spectating as they are warming up. so 1 out of 10 spectates.

    1. You input you scored 9 shots. Day 1 A spectator says you had 4.

    2. You input you scored 10 shots. Day 2 A spectator says you had 6

    3. You input you scored 11 shots. Day 3 A spectator says you had 3

This will continue for 3 weeks then our logic dictates a spectator. So I will send a warning email telling them that 3 DIFFERENT spectators had him in conflict with their results. I'll explain that you are expected to keep a 90% non conflict rate which is a mix of: Your challenge record Your spectator conflict percentage Your common sense record (That's just a joke) But you see the point. It's not just one thing we are looking at. It helps that I have extensive knowledge in the sports world and I know a lot of rules and how the game is played.

These are a few of the ways that we developed. Tell me what you think!

What does luxury watch say about you?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 01:45 AM PDT

What does luxury watch say about you?

A Rolex would tell people you are rich.

A Patek Philippe would probably tell the right people you are rich

A Vacheron Constantin or Audemar Piguet could tell people you are rich if you are willing to take a minute to explain.

A Blancpain or A. Lange & Söhne could tell people you are rich if you are willing to take a few minutes to explain, but they will stop believing you when you tell them the price of the watch.

A Hublot would NOT tell people you are rich. More likely than not, you would get a reaction along the lines of "yeah right, a luxury version of Swatch I see…."

A Richard Mille would tell people you like science-themed G-shocks.

    Advice on managing someone older

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 02:45 PM PDT

Don't know if this is the best sub to post this, but...why not?

I work in a company, owned and run by my father, and I've been gaining more and more responsibility in it. He is now working on the business instead of in it, and going on more conferences and speaking engagements. This leaves me at the office, managing people, and it has been noted that I will be managing them.

But, there is one co-worker who is just lagging behind. Seems to be constantly texting his girlfriend. Not focused while at work. And maybe once every 1-2 weeks, has to take a phone call with his argumentative GF during business hours.

I didn't mind much at first. As long as he is working at 75% capacity...I'd say that is good enough for an average employee. It seems like it is now slipping to 60% - 65% capacity.

Issue being I don't feel like I can really tell him anything. He's older (32 years old versus my 24 years), I've only been in the business 1.5 years, and...it's a hard conversation to have.

    Any advice?

How do I open my own business or start my own restaurant/cafe in Canada?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 02:03 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

I've always dreamt of turning into an entrepreneur and luckily my partner too shares the same dream.

We are both professionals with 10+ years of experience in marketing, operations and my partner manages restaurants day in and out since almost a decade.

We have moved to Canada and would love to start a small business of ours in the hospitality industry. Cafe or a restaurant.

Can anyone help us with the procedure - financial, legal and other nitty gritties.

Any feedback which province/city has ease of doing business etc

    Thanks,

    Business idea

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:37 PM PDT

Have you guys noticed that : eating out is very difficult and expensive.

    in an area, typically,

You find few outlets selling pizza or burger, you find a restaurant in which meals are quite expensive, and that's it.

Here you have : only few foods, and they are expensive

    You can eat almost nothing,

    Eating out is nearly impossible

    Do you guys see ?

    This model is very inefficient

    Something important is missing

It is : a restaurant where food keeps changing, food changes every day

    Chefs also rotate

This restaurant is going to serve thousands of foods over the course of time

A meal is going to be cheap

You will be able to eat thousands of foods

Eating out will finally become possible

    This model is way better
