Anyone a credit risk analyst in industry?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 07:48 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I've been asked to interview for a Credit Portfolio Risk Analyst position and would be reporting to the credit finance manager in the treasury department of my company. I've completed the CMA and am somewhat familiar with risk analysis and AR aging cycles, but I'm not sure I understand the day-to-day of the role.

Is anyone here working in industry as a credit risk analyst? I really want to perform well in this interview and would sincerely appreciate some guidance. I'm trying to find some resources to review beforehand that would enable me to speak intelligently about the position and how it informs the overall credit strategy of the company.

    Much appreciated!

    Question about internship with KPMG

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 09:28 AM PDT

Hello guys, I made a post here a while ago and since then I've been offered an internship with KPMG and have already accepted it. It's an ITAA internship and I'm very excited for it. Some questions I have are I've been seeing a decent amount of people post "I'm excited to announce that I've accepted an offer from blah blah for an internship in blah blah" kind of stuff. Is it customary to do this because I see that they thank people in the post and I don't know if it's customary to do this so you can thank the people like the recruiters who helped you? The reason why i'm hesitant to do this is because i feel like that's kind of humble bragging or am i wrong? Another question I have is for what I'm supposed to be doing now. I didn't expect to be done in the year so fast and so I'm not sure what I should be doing for the rest of the year. Is there anything you guys think I should do to maybe make myself more competitive?

    IT audit questions and concerns

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 08:22 AM PDT

I have an offer on the table from a Big 4 for and IT audit position; I am excited however after reading through this subreddit I have had some questions and concerns. At all the recruiting events i've been to, they definitely don't seem super transparent and try to make the role sound more like a tech consulting role.

From what I have gathered in this subreddit is that pay is better than audit, work life is better than audit, however exit opps are worse than audit.

    So my questions are:

    1. For how long do you stay in IT audit before you're pretty much stuck in it(without having to take a pay cut)? I want to at least see if I like it, and then if not I can leave without losing a chunk of my salary.

    2. I notice that you can slide into a manager position where you're making well over 100k by the time you're 30. Is the work as a manager enjoyable? Is there enough flexibility in a manager role or does the work life balance get worse?

    3. What are the hours actually like? Some people will tell me 45 and then others will say it can go up to 60. Does it just depend on the client?

Canada USA Sale Tax For Marketplace Facilitator / Owner

Canada USA Sale Tax For Marketplace Facilitator / Owner

    https://i.redd.it/wcrniyeo8jt31.jpg

Hi I am web developer currently developing Multi seller Marketplace similar like ebay or amazon that would operate in Both Canada and USA. Buyer may be from USA or CANADA But all of sellers would be from CANADA.
I am stuck with sale tax logic for seller and buyers.
In my marketplace there would be NO SHIPMENT OF PRODUCTS via seller or marketplace facilitator. Buyers have to pick up the products from seller business location by themselves.

Right Now I am confused to Choose between Two Sale Tax approaches.

    1. Sales tax according to Buyer Location i.e If Seller is From Ontario state and Buyer is from Alberta sate.
Alberta Sate tax will be applicable. Because Buyer is living in Alberta

    2. Sale tax according to Seller Business Location ie. If Seller is From Ontario state and Buyer is from Alberta sate, Ontario Sate tax will be applicable. ( Because in my marketplace there is no shipping option. seller never sent the item to buyer location. Buyer visits to Ontario state by himself and Pickup the things from seller so Ontario sale tax would be applicable)

    My Questions are :

    1. Out of 2 Which one is best for both sellers and marketplace facilitator/ owner to save them from both Tax agencies CRA and IRS Non compliances Fines.

    2. I know all states of Canada and most of USA states have destination based sale tax policy (Sale Tax applied according to buyer shipment/Billing address ) but some of USA states also have Source Based sale tax policy too ( Sale tax apply according to seller location)

My question is: if Seller apply the source based SALE TAX ONLY. Even he is operating in state that have destination based sale tax policy and Buyer is from other state. But tell the buyer that he can refund his HST/GST by himself With Canadian GST/HST Rebate forms. Would this be a Right Practice ? ( because buyer pickup the things from seller sate)

    1. if Buyer is from USA Florida State. Can Ontario seller apply his HST to USA based buyer. because he would be in Ontario sate for pickup. If Ontario Sale TAX applicable in this Case. Can USA Buyer Rebate his Sale tax by any kind of form provided by Canadian Government because he is non Canadian. If Yes what is name of Form?

Or there would be No Sales Tax For USA resident. Because this Duty of CANADA-USA custom Department to apply all Taxes when buyer cross the border from Canada to USA. Or there is some kind of Canada USA Tax Treaties that Prohibits the Canadian seller apply no sale tax to USA residents.

Or Ontario Seller has to apply Buyer home state (Florida )Sale Tax rate in Canadian dollar amount ?

Most of my points based on Internet Research, so Please Correct me if I am wrong at some points.

I Would be Highly thankful for Your Help.

Would it be futile to pursue accounting after the age of 35 [CAN]

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 07:43 AM PDT

Recently got laid off and am looking to switch gears. I have project management and business analyst experience. I've taken some Accounting courses and I'm Good at them - Im considering hammering out CPA PREP courses through Athabasca and networking like hell to Industry positions and any public firms that would give me a chance.

At this age though - is it even really possible? Or would it be a massive uphill battle? I'm just trying to assess the likelihood of me being able to get a job to give me the experience I would need for the CPA PEP modules.

    Audit Project Help with Sampling?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2019 06:43 AM PDT

I apologize if this might be the wrong place to ask, but I am in need of some help with understanding the concept. I keep going through my textbook and class slides and I am not finding any resources that can help me answer this question. The question reads as is below in bold:

Based on your work above which method/sample size would you select (A) Non-Stat (X) Sample Size or (B) MUS/PPS (Y) Sample Size, and why? (X & Y are the number you calculated in tabs Q2 & Q3.) Think about efficiency/effectiveness.

    THESE ARE THE PREVIOUS QUESTIONS:

    • Q2: I calculated the non-statistical sampling size to be 24. The formula I used is below.

Sample size = (Population book value X Reliability factor)/Tolerable misstatement

    • Q3: I calculated the Monetary unit sample (MUS/ Probability-proportional-to-size) size to be 61.9. The formula I used is below.

Sample Size= (Recorded amount of population \ Reliability factor)/*Tolerable misstatement - (Expected misstatement \ Expansion factor)*

    CPA Marker (Canada)

I'm looking to become a CPA Marker, whether it's for the modules, capstone 2 cases, CFE, etc. Seems like I've been ghosted multiple times. Is it one of those things where you need to know someone to get your foot in the door?

Industry Accounting: Been here 13 months. When to discuss raises?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2019 09:17 PM PDT

This is my first accounting job. I am on a "fast track" to being a controller, reporting directly to our Director of Accounting. Should I even ask before I officially get the title change? We have a automatic yearly raise of 2% or something every March. Do i wait for that to ask? Do I ask at all?

Good or bad progress? Any help is appreciated.

    Posted: 18 Oct 2019 11:56 PM PDT

Graduated with my Bachelor's in Accounting 3 years ago. I did about a year of Billing getting $16.50/hour then another year in AR department making $18/hour, and currrently an Accounting Analyst (AR, Recons, management reports, profitabillity calc, etc) making $55k/year. Is this a good a progress? what should my next step be? I'm not planning to take the CPA exam and rather stick with private accounting as i'm good at it. I live in Nebraska, low cost of living. Thanks very much!!!
