/r/smallbusiness is one of a very few subs where people can ask questions about operating their small business. To let that happen the main sub is dedicated to answering questions about subscriber's own small businesses. Many people also want to talk about things which are not specific questions about their own business. We don't want to disappoint those subscribers and provide this post as a place to share that content without overwhelming specific and often less popular simple questions. How to overcome a bad store location? Posted: 29 Sep 2019 11:20 AM PDT By saying "bad" I don't mean no car parking or bad neighborhood. ... It is just 30 meters away from the main street in a good looking ally way but there is a small foot traffic here .... It is a makeup store here in Egypt .... I tried Facebook ads and it's 20% affecting my sales ... Please help if you know any marketing tips new or old .. it may help in this situation. .. [link] [comments] |
Using the tools of 'world class' big businesses? Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:20 AM PDT Not necessarily using their expensive IT systems or large staff. Large businesses have their own analysts, staff, and hire a lot of consulting firms, and specialists. If a small business wanted to get the benefits with a small business budget, what is there to do? Advisory members ask only 1-2% of profit, consulting and specialist can be used sparingly? how can a small business use these things? [link] [comments] |
Dealing with flaky vendor [MA] Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:18 PM PDT Hey everyone, Unfortunately they're weird when it comes to costs & invoicing. They don't seem to have their act together in the finance and costs department, so there always seems to be a surprise cost when it comes time for me to pay the agreed upon cost. They don't always provide the display the proper way either. So I finally gave them a set budget to work with, and now they've decided to start charging sales tax on top of the agreed upon total budget, when there was never any sales tax collected before. I'm tired of them not having their shit together and making me pay for it, but they're the only ones capable of making the displays I need outside of myself, and I don't have the time to make them. What should I do in order to put my foot down? Part of me wants to ask for an ST-1 form in order to make sure my vendors are actually able to collect sales tax as a legitimate business, because I know they don't have an ST-1 form and probably don't even have an EIN, making them jump through some hoops and forcing them to actually pay up the sales tax they collect in the long run, since I know they're simply collecting it without recording it right now. What would you guys suggest? I don't want to punish these guys or ruin the relationship, they aren't mean or bad guys, but I don't want to be dicked around on surprise costs anymore. 7 Questions for Launching a Business as a Teenager Posted: 29 Sep 2019 07:27 PM PDT I have a refined business concept and have secured a way of having funding without going into debt. How to find more commercial cleaning jobs on the weekends. Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:08 PM PDT Hello everyone, I am the owner of a commercial and residential cleaning company. So far things have been great, all the jobs I have done have been perfect and I actually have a few great employees. My issue right now is I'm looking for Commercial contracts / jobs for weekends. Does any one have any recommendations of business I should contact inquiring about weekend work? I also have started contacting real estate agents and property management companies. If any one has any recommendations to move into the Airbnb space feel free to let me know. As far as advertising I did have google ads setup on my website. I was very successful with home cleanings but as far as commercial jobs I wasn't getting much turnover. Anyway, thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
Can an S-Corp open a brokerage account and trade stocks? Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:32 PM PDT Ill be receiving S-Corp CAD payments from Amazon to a money Transfer service (Payoneer / WorldFirst / PingPong). I would then like to transfer these CAD funds to a broker such as Questtrade so I can exchange CAD/USD at the most economical rates (Norbert Gambit) as well as invest additional funds in interest bearing instruments with the broker. Is this feasible as an S-Corp? [link] [comments] |

Starting a catering business, need some pointers! Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:12 AM PDT Hi all, I have decided to take a leap of faith and start a catering business. I have been cooking professionally from last 15 years and have been thinking for a long time to start something of my own. It'll be the two of us in the beginning, then grow with the flow. I'm looking to cater to smaller events and parties of up to 50 people and serve great food (with a unique twist of my own) and wine (eventually). I have catered my food to friends and family before and feel confident that it can suit most taste buds. My concern is with profits by catering to smaller groups. Any insights and feedback will be helpful and greatly appreciated. TIA! [link] [comments] |

Consulting business LLC formation & out-of-state entity formation Posted: 29 Sep 2019 01:00 PM PDT I've seen a few variations on this question on /r/smallbusiness, but wasn't able to get much insight into my particular situation, so would appreciate if anyone in a similar situation can offer some advice. I'm working as an independent software consultant, and currently based in New York City. In order to formalize and organize my business, I want to set up an LLC, but I'm having a hard time determining whether it makes more sense to register the LLC in New York or in another state. For a little bit more detail about my situation - I'm based in New York, and at the moment most of my clients are based in New York, but I don't have a physical location, nor am I selling physical goods. I sell my time, and I typically either work from my home or from my clients' offices. From my perspective, it appears that I'll be able to run my business normally if I'm registered in another state, as I don't need any New York-specific licensing or registration. The main drawback to registering in another state seems like I might need to re-register the LLC as a foreign LLC in New York, and then deal with two sets of paperwork and filing fees/headaches. The main benefit to registering elsewhere seems to be that it will be quicker/less expensive, and I can avoid the New York publication fee, which requires that you announce the formation of your LLC in two papers for six consecutive weeks in the county in which it was registered. In NYC, this would cost upwards of $1000. tl;dr: If I have a consulting business and I'm not selling physical goods, can I just register it in any state and do business where I live? Or will that potentially get me in some kind of trouble? [link] [comments] |

Small Computer Repair Buisness Starting Advice Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:25 AM PDT I just started a small local computer repair buisness and wanted to see if anyone has any advice on how to develop a customer base? USA-based 3PL for Ebay/WooCommerce with zero shipping volume for Non-USA individual Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:47 AM PDT Hey there! I am planning to sell a product online through Ebay/WooCommerce website. I'm not located in the US, and the product will be manufactured in China/Malaysia and sent to the USA by my supplier. No sales yet, and I plan to keep stock in USA, so customers will be able to receive order fast. I am looking for a 3PL to store my product and ship it throughout the USA with zero shipping monthly volume. I tried:
Does anybody else had been in such situation? Can anybody recommend services without minimal volume with good reputation? P.S.: FBA doesn't work for me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Sep 2019 05:47 AM PDT I'm new to this sub but have been lurking on another account since I considered starting a business last year. Do people do website reviews and give feedback? I am now up and running and you know family never gives you a real critique [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:32 AM PDT Am I still able to collect unemployment once I start the LLC but don't have any clients and if I don't take any money out of the LLC bank account can I still claim unemployment from my last job since I technically won't have any income? Regardless I would still be looking for a job and certifying I'm in the state of Michigan if that matters [link] [comments] |
Independent Contractors & Insurance Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:11 AM PDT I'm starting a residential cleaning agency. My plan was to hire independent contractors at first to do the cleanings and then possibly switch to employees after business picks up. My question is about liability insurance for independent contractors. I dont think I'm allowed to insure them because then they would be considered employees (I think?) Do I have just have to make sure they have their own liability insurance before subcontracting them to do jobs? I'm in illinois. I just saw a post in a FB group about this other woman in chicago that has a cleaning agency, she got audited and had to pay some fines because of some issues with her ICs. I reached out to her to see if I could get some advice but haven't heard back yet. Thanks for any info [link] [comments] |
