    Beware of scams like "stoovo"

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:38 AM PDT

When the developer of this app made his post, I thought it was kind of a weird idea but whatever. They claimed it a gig aggregate service, and they "are not evil".

Another user posted the page with their terms and it's horrendous. Not only do they

♤charge bill pay fees as a 3rd party while claiming they protect you from 3rd party services ♤automatically move any legal action to delaware to avoid any class action suits ♤do not payout in any way ♤claim to be able to "renegotiate" your student loans when they have no authority to do so

They also do this : If you permit the Stoovo app to access the address book on your device through the permission system used by your mobile platform, we may access and store names and contact information from your address book to facilitate social interactions through our Services and for other purposes not described in this Statement or at the time of consent or collection.

Stoovo has NO position, authority or rank to EVER negotiate any part of your student loans. They are NOT a bank, a creditor or financial advisors.

YOUR LOANS WILL NOT BE NEGOTIATED, THAT ISN'T A THING AND THIS IS A MASSIVE DATA SCAM AT BEST.

At worst, it's a social ranking system riding on oppressive gig culture as a means to trick people into thinking they can get their loans lowered by doing these jobs and giving away their personal financial information.

Seriously, I would be 0% surprised to read "Stoovo empties thousands of bank accounts, while developers mysteriously disappear" next year.

    Don't do it.

    Need Advice

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 10:55 PM PDT

I am trying to help my girlfriend get her student loans under control.

She has Fed Loans and Sallie Mae.

Her Sallie Mae loans I believe are Private. She has been enrolled in an inerest rate reduction program for the last 22 months, which expires in October. The variable.rate has been 2.0% which is great, but prior to her enrolling in this program, it was 11%+. They sent her a notice the other day that the reduction program is ending and her payments will be increasing. They did not specify what the new interest rate will be, but did specify what the new payments will be.

    Here is a full breakdown:

    Sallie Mae

    1 $13,745.07 @ variable 2% - $78.53/mo... Increasing to $146 on 10/20

    2 $4,848.85 @ variable 2% - $27.70/mo... Increasing to $57 on 10/20

    3 $14,086.72 @ variable 2% - $80.48/mo... Increasing to $154 on 10/20

    4 $15,499.18 @ variable 2% - $88.55/mo... Increasing to $167 on 10/20

    Fed Loans

    1 $26,278.35 - fixed 5.13% - $119.96/mo

    2 $36,753.87 - fixed 5.13% - $167.78/mo

My biggest question is - should she get rid of the variable rate and get a fixed rate? Does that require a refinance?

Will closing my Navient account significantly drop my credit score?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 10:27 PM PDT

First off I'd like to apologize if this has been asked before. I've searched but haven't found any clear answers when it comes to actually closing the account.

For some background I recently just paid off my last Navient Loan (started at $70k 5 years ago now $0 yay!). I REALLY want to close my Navient account, there is no reason really for me to close it it's more of an action that will make me feel good and signify that I am done with this part of my life forever.

I have seen some things that say closing the account will close the credit history and thus drop the score significantly, I have also read other things that say student loan history is saved for 7 years or something even after you close the account. Apologies if I am ignorant on these matters its not my expertise. I am wondering if anyone has any experience/advice on this situation. Is it safe to close the account? I was also thinking I will need my 2019 tax document from them which comes in January, so I may have to keep it open until then unless they can still send me the form with a close account.

    Appreciate any help in advance

My student loan disbursed and brought down my credit score?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2019 01:11 AM PDT

I recently got a reimbursement of my student loans. On credit karma my score dropped 45 points and the only change is my department of education loan increased. I'm trying to understand why this happened randomly? This is not my first student loan and it's never impacted my score before. I've googled student loan impact on credit score and everything says it shouldn't impact my score if I'm still in school with a deferred loan. I did notice the loan status says 'open' and not deferred? It only says deferred in the remarks. Any ideas as to why it suddenly hit my score so bad? I'm so confused.

Small Nelnet loan paid off for me?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 10:04 AM PDT

I owed maybe 2k in student loans, taken out in 2015? For paramedic school. Didn't finish the program, paid 1k off, moved out of my parents house, never paid any more money. The loan was through someone else when I paid off the first thousand. Don't know who. Now its through nelnet. They'd been emailing me about late payments even though the amount I paid off should have set me straight for quite a while with $50 a month payments lol. I stopped receiving emails after being "6 months behind" last October (the like millionth time I've been told I am 6 payments behind). I am finally financially where I can make payments again, and I set a password and such up with nelnet, and log in to find I have no upcoming payments, I owe $0.00. I cant access details, but can see in payment a history of a payment made in April this year by "A" in the exact amount of my loan (like 1.2k) .

Not that I am upset, but .. why?

Should I take the max maintenance loan even if it's more than I need? (UK)

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 02:50 PM PDT

I've done a decent amount of reading up on this topic and the best course of action seems to be to take out as much as I can.

The reason I'm posting is to see how people feel about their decisions regarding loans post-uni.

With the economy heading to recession, should I refi

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 01:10 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

I am torn between refinancing my loan now or waiting a month or so for the Fed to lower rates again.

Currently I am at 9% with $110k in loans. Refi rates available to me include 4.2% fixed / 4.0% variable with SoFi. Haven't checked at other lenders.

    Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Would like advice for the best options for me.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:22 AM PDT

Hi all!! I currently owe just above 19k in student loans. My gross income is about 64k/yr which fluctuates by 5k every year. Just depends how much work we get through out the year.

I got an associates degree in applied science and was never hired for my degree (competitive industry). What are my best options to reduce what I owe or best options in general?

Tips and advice for dealing with an unsubsidized loan?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:51 AM PDT

I'm a college freshman and I took out both a subsidized and unsubsidized loan. I heard it's smart to pay on the interest while in school. Can anyone give me more info pertaining to that? Does that mean I don't need to pay interest after school? Thanks.

Are there any student loans for Muslims?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:53 PM PDT

Hello, so I applied for a university in the USA as an international student, and I need around $3000 so I can pay the university, I was depending on my uncle but he recently told me that he can't help so I am stuck now, I got accepted into this university after a hard time of trying, it's really a great opportunity, I really don't want to let it go, so if there are any student loans for Muslims mention them below please, thank you!

(I am asking for Muslim loans specifically because I can't take out loans with interest since I am a Muslim)
