Tow truck damaged my bumper Insurance

Tow truck damaged my bumper Insurance

    Tow truck damaged my bumper

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 08:44 PM PDT

I had to call roadside assistance (through my insurance company) to tow my car about a mile.

The tow truck that took my car, must have caught the rear bumper on something because the bumper cover was half torn off.

The driver admitted fault and said they would 'take care of it', but since he couldn't tell me when or how it would be fixed I told him I would just go through my insurance because I have rental coverage.

My insurance company won't file a claim because they have a separate process for damage reports from roadside assistance. Since I can't file a claim I'm not able to have them give me a rental...

They said to wait 24-48 hours for a manager to call me to update the damage report. It's now been 48 hours, no one had called me and it's very difficult to get through the automated roadside assistance to talk to anyone.

Not really sure what I should do, as it had been a major inconvenience to be without my car for more than two days now.

    Thanks for any advice.

If an insured driver (with permission) borrowed my car and got in an accident which totalled it, would his full coverage insurance compensate me for my vehicle that is insured liability only?

Passenger, no-fault state, both companies denying liability

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 12:03 PM PDT

    Hi all-

I am in Florida. In December, I was involved in a car accident. My friend was driving when we took a left turn and an oncoming car hit the passenger side door directly. I was in that seat. The injuries were minimal but I still had to go to the emergency room for x rays, pain meds, bandages... and we all know how expensive that can get! Lol. It's been months and I recently received a bill from the hospital saying that after insurance adjustments, I still owe money. I called BOTH drivers' insurance companies before calling mine. My friend's insurance company said to call the other driver's. The other driver's said that there was a dispute between both companies and that I should contact my insurance. My claims adjuster told me that what I was told didn't really make sense, because Florida is a no-fault state, and someone should be paying the other 20% of my bill! He called the other companies and got back with me, saying that he was shocked with the situation. The dispute ended with the arbitrator deciding that NEITHER driver was at fault, so now I am stuck with outstanding medical bills and no company coming forward to cover it. I feel that it is extremely unfair as an innocent party in the matter to have to cover my own bills at this point, but I do not know much about insurance to know whether this is a normal thing. My claims adjuster did not like it at all and said that I might want to look into demand letters. He said it seems fair that both would pay 50%, if they cannot decide who is at fault.

Can I get opinions from others?

Settlement approximation for rear end collision with injury

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 01:15 AM PDT

    Please advise!

I was rear ended on the freeway. At fault driver hit me at 35-45 mph. 12k in vehicle damage. I'm on FLMA for 6 weeks losing approximately 7.5k in wages. Medical bills are are approximately 3-4k including PT. I'm trying to estimate what the at fault insurance company will offer me in total. I have calculated a diminished value of 2k for my vehicle as it had low mileage and was purchased less than a year ago. It was valued at 26k fair value market range before the accident using kbb. I was lowballed 17k using their cash offer value.

I would like to know what could be expected from the insurance adjuster/company...

I disclosed I was in a prior accident 3 years ago and the car was deemed total loss and I was paid out for its full value I was given 25k for medical injuries from my insurance as the driver was uninsured.

Also can my whiplash injuries from my previous accident three years disqualify or negate my current injuries sustained from my current accident claim?

In desperate need of advice, had water leak that may have caused damage to neighbor

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 05:27 PM PDT

I am subleasing a room in a condo, I am not the owner. The owner does not have home owners insurance (because he says it was not required) and I don't have renter's insurance.

I accidentally left my sink running in my bathroom and it overflew (I heard this shouldn't happen because of the overflow drain but there may be an issue with the piping or something because the flow of water leaving is slow). It stayed on for a couple hours. The water must have flowed down and actually set off the fire alarm in both my downstairs neighbors condo and the condo below that one as well.

I went to see both places and there was no visible water from the ceiling. The bottommost neighbor barely saw any water but there was a tiny (like a marble) sized dark spot in the ceiling. The direct downstairs neighbor didn't have much water either (relatively small puddle) and it was easily cleaned up, and no water visible in the ceiling.

I'm really not sure what the best course of action is. My neighbor sent a couple pictures of the water to the HOA and they have contacted my subleaser about next steps. I think we need to get someone to come inspect my neighbors' places. I don't think there should be much lasting damage because theres nothing visible at all but I'm scared of calling the wrong inspector and them claiming lots of internal damage or mold even if there isn't (perhaps to claim a large project. Am i correct to worry about this?) The building itself is like 30 years old so I'm also worried there may be unrelated issues that have been there since before.

Does anyone have any advice on how to choose a reliable inspector and what I should do? Should I talk directly with my neighbor more instead of the HOA? Does the owner of my condo have any responsibility due to potentially bad piping in the sink or do I hold sole responibility for accidentally leaving the sink on? Please, any advice would be appreciated. I know this wasn't the most coherent description of what's currently going on.

I'm pretty scared because I don't have insurance and I have no idea what this will cost. I simultaneously don't expect to have to repair much if any because it seems like everything dried up fine but I just don't know.

How do I go about getting full bloodwork done (through my doctor or contact an in-network lab directly)?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 04:46 PM PDT

I have already met my insurance deductible for this year (am on a high deductible plan), and any further stuff I get is 90% covered, so I figure this is a good year for me to get a full lab bloodwork done as it will be covered 90% by an in-network lab.

Do I need to go through my primary care doctor and ask him to do it while I am doing my annual free physical or can I just straight up go to some in-network lab and say "hey do my full bloodwork". Do labs take requests like this without a referral from a doctor?

I just want to know the process. I'm worried that if I bring up doing full bloodwork during my annual free physical with my doctor that visit will become a 'consultation' which isn't covered as the free physical.

Wife is covered by two health insurances. Providers contract obligations

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 04:34 PM PDT

I had a question, my wife is covered by two health insurances. My employer provided health insurance and a Medicare advantage plan. She gets the Medicare plan through being on disability through SSA.

Both plans have no deductible. If a provider is in network for both plans do they have a contract obligations to bill both insurance plans as my employer insurance is Primary while her Medicare advantage plan is secondary.

Can they choose to just bill the primary and accept the payment from the primary insurance and her copay, or are they required to bill the primary and then secondary to see if she would owe a copay at all.

    First time needing flood insurance

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 08:10 AM PDT

New home has a creek nearby I guess, according to elevation plan basically a corner of the garage is in a Zone A flood plain. Current homeowner has plan with a little insurance company, pay 700/yr. I asked that provider, and they said mine would be more because I would have to greatly increase the coverage. Does flood insurance have to cover the whole purchase price, or just the mortgage? Our current provider gave an insane quote, and their regular homeowner's insurance coverage seemed expensive too. Should I look at a broker? I have never used one, just gone direct to the company. Sorry for all the questions, just never needed flood and never used a broker.

Swerved into stop sign. Car that almost collided with me fled the scene.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 08:16 PM PDT

I was driving straight and an oncoming vehicle took a left turn into my path and I swerved into a stop sign that was on my right side, at the exit of a shopping center. The car took off and i got a damaged/scuffed bumper, and the sign went down.

Cops came and wrote me an incident report, there was 1 witness (guy driving behind me) who also communicated with the officer and let them know of the vehicle that took off.

Will I be held liable for this stop sign? I haven't made a claim with my insurance.

Can my incident report help to avoid me paying for it or should I absolutely file a claim with my insurance? Or should I ask the officer first what he included in the report?

    Auto Insurance options help?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 07:52 PM PDT

    Hello

I just found out that our current auto insurance provider is not going to renew us.

On our policy is myself, my wife and son. Over the last two years, we've had a few too many accident which is really what hurt us (3 at-fault, 4 no-fault). Plus my son has had a few speeding tickets in that time frame. Frustrating as we have had a clean clear record for over 20 years.

So understandably I would have assumed our rate would have increased, but being dropped hurts.

I have a few quotes from some companies (State Farm and other reputable companies, even called "the general"), and each was from 16K to 21K for the three vehicles and drivers - far far greater than I was expecting.

So I'm in the market for a new policy. One of the reps of a higher quote, suggested I use a broker to help find a better/reasonable rate. I will definitely be calling the couple of people he suggested.

Are there any other avenues I could explore?

A friend of mine suggested that we take our son off our policy and put him on his own policy.

I am not very well versed in insurance and would greatly appreciate any insight or suggestion you all may have.

    thank you.

How to stop holding a clients hand

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 03:36 PM PDT

I have a problem. I"m mostly a p and c and life agent. We have a client of our agency that has about 40-50 flood policies that all expire at different times of the year. Sometimes there is a cluster of them all at once that renew. These are for rental dwellings he owns.

I was the new guy about 6 years ago in a small agency I got stuck with dealing with him because no one else in the agency gets along with him. He's a little condescending but we get along fine. He is the type of client that does not open his mail or if he does, just does not care. He has a PO Box, and I picture him checking the PO Box by sliding everything in to a garbage bag.

One of the other agents at the time got me in the habit of reminding clients when we saw a cancellation pop up or something that was late. I did that (and still do) .

About the last year or so I have not had the time to devote to this with this particular client. We have other clients that have just as many policies of whatever line but they either watch them closely themselves or employ someone else to keep tabs on them. I feel like I've dug myself a hole because he fully expects me to call, text and email when he is late...not only once but maybe two or three reminders he expects. The fact that he is not likable does not help him much either.

My principal agent backs me up in that I need to step away from this as he wants me free to sell and service other clients. I don't know what solution he has in mind, but I hope he isn't just going to roll him off on someone else, I feel like we need to stop this completely with him. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Garbage truck scratched my brothers truck

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 06:41 PM PDT

It was a really tight road so my brother scooted his truck to the side to let the garbage truck pass but something was sticking out of the garbage truck and he scratched the side of his truck. The guy offered my brother money if he didnt contact the company he worked for, but my brother decided against it and contacted his company and insurance. He just got a letter from them after weeks of waiting and they said that they wernt liable and they arent gonna pay for the damages. The dump truck driver told his company that my brother tried passing him which is obviously a lie. What can we do?

Auto Insurance - Texas - Past Claim?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 04:04 PM PDT

Anyone know Texas Auto Insurance? I have a vehicle that was damaged several months ago in a massive hail storm. The city sustained over $3 million in hail damage for automobiles alone! So it's well known. We were going through so much change at the time we thought we would just keep driving it and put off making a claim. The policy that was in place at that time, expired in July 2019 and we actually moved insurance companies. We're looking at our finances and seriously regret not making the claim, considering the age and condition of the car it's probably totaled and not worth much at all at this point.

So my question is this - is it possible to make a claim on the expired policy from that storm? I took video of the storm (there hasn't been another one since) and in my video I just happened to get my vehicle in the view also. It wasn't on purpose, but if I had to prove it was in the storm, I do have that... but more importantly, does anyone know if this is even a possibility?

X-Post: is being transgender a pre-existing medical condition?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 03:55 PM PDT

My 1-year job contract is up next month and I have no leads for my next one. Assuming it’s going to take at least a couple months to find new coverage, what’s the best approach in the meantime?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 03:20 PM PDT

Contract ends 9/30 and I am not renewing. Do I qualify for Medicaid because my income will technically be 0? Or do they take the whole year into account? If not Medicaid, is it best to get something from the Marketplace? I don't think I can afford COBRA but I need real coverage because of some medications, etc that I need.

Edit: moving to Maryland the day my job ends

    Life Insurance Claim Processing Times

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 02:47 PM PDT

    Hello All,

A couple years ago, I purchased an indexed universal life insurance policy for $200,000. In addition, I got a terminal illness rider for $150,000. I was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. My Transamerica agent is saying that the processing time could take up to 6 months!!! Is this possible?!?! And is there anything I can do to hurry them up?!?

    Homeowners insurance- Progressive

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 10:18 AM PDT

It is time for my homeowners insurance to renew so I called around to get some quotes. Most companies are around the same rates I am currently paying with the exception of Progressive which is $600 cheaper. I asked the agent why the rates are so cheap compared to all the other carriers and she said this was because they just started selling insurance in my state. I am in a high risk state with weather related events (Oklahoma) and know these rates will likely go up once the company has to pay out some storm related losses. Would I be better off switching for lower rates this year and anticipate increases the following years or just stick with my current carrier? The carrier I am with is very competitive for this market.

Reinsurance - why is Aon/Benfield not considered a major reinsurer?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 08:02 AM PDT

Hi, I was recently doing some industry research in the Reinsurance sector, and when I look at lists of major players (up to the top 50), I don't see Aon (or Aon Benfield) listed at all.

Just curious, is there some reason they aren't categorized with the others or are they really that small? I always thought they were one of the world's largest reinsurers.

    Thanks for your input!

EDIT: Thank you all for helping me understand this.

Renter's Insurance - is it a good idea in this case?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 09:13 AM PDT

Here's a scenario: a person rents a room from a homeowner friend of theirs, however there's no rental or lease agreement. The homeowner has contents insurance. Would this insurance generally cover the renter's property as well, or would it be prudent for the renter to have a separate policy?

Any idea on how to learn quickly? How long does it take before you become knowledgeable in this career (or any career)? I'm a recent grad.

    Subpoena Needed for Insurance Records!?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 11:34 AM PDT

I am currently in a debate with my pet insurance company. They have come back and listed conditions that I took my pet to the vet for as pre-existing conditions (which you all helped me confirm, thank you!), which will not be covered by the insurance. However, I distinctly remember on my first call to the sales team to ask about the details of the policies that the rep told me something along the lines of "if you have newly adopted this pet and have never taken them to the vet, if you sign up for the insurance and it is active before your first vet appointment, nothing will be considered a pre-existing condition." My pet was indeed newly adopted, and I waited until after I enrolled in the policy and it was active to make a vet appointment.

I let the company know about this, and they said a manager would listen back to the call recordings from my phone number and they would get back to me. The rep I spoke with about this was quite candid and said "Oh, if they said that, it certainly would make your argument much more interesting." After some back and forth because they were listening to my most recent call after I had purchased and had a question and not the call I was referencing, they stopped calling me back. I just called to follow up, and they said that yes they found the original calls before I purchased my policy, but that the pre-existing conditions conversation did not happen the way I remembered. When I asked to listen to the call to verify that it was the right call, I was told to come back with a subpoena.

Is this normal policy? I am thinking that if the call doesn't contain what I claim that it does, they would just let me listen to it so that I will stop bothering them.

    Mortgage Protection Insurance

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 10:14 AM PDT

I have seen plenty of articles for mortgage protection insurance (MPI), however cannot find any vendors that sell it. In particular the type that covers your mortgage payments in the event your unemployed due to reasons not in your control. I am not at risk for this but I would think this would be a good investment in the event it did happen. I live in South Carolina and have my home insured with Nationwide. I talked to them and they do not offer it. I talked to our mortgage provider and they do not also. Does anyone know of companies that provide this type of policy ?

Hit and run not sure when

    Posted: 02 Aug 2019 09:58 AM PDT

I had walked out to my car and noticed damage to the front passenger corner. I assume it was a hit and run. I was looking up what to do but everything online is referring to WHEN it happened. In my case I almost never approach my car in a way where I would see the damage. So the question is how do I explain that? Do I need to just make a claim with insurance and let them know the situation? Do I need to still get an accident report from the police? Happened to need to pick up kids from day care which is when I noticed it since that was out of routine for me and I happened to park in a way were I had to approach the car from the other side.
