In the case that a company is purchased, what happens to short sellers?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 08:35 AM PDT

For example, if Netflix continues a downturn and Disney decides to buy them, what happens to people who have shorted NFLX? The simpler you can make this the better.

Why Apple will be able to thrive despite trade war

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 08:08 AM PDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/08/26/apple-trade-war-timing-of-china-tariffs-will-help-company-thrive.html

Apple's stock is helping lead U.S. stocks higher on Monday, buoyed by the possibility of re-opened trade negotiations with China.

"We see certain silver linings relative to timing that might allow Apple to navigate the challenging dynamic better than investors currently expect," J.P. Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee said in a note to investors.

D.A. Davidson analyst Tom Forte said Apple has done "an amazing job" of mitigating the impact of tariffs, especially by working with the U.S. government.

Trading Strategy Back Tester in Python

    Posted: 25 Aug 2019 07:33 PM PDT

    https://github.com/mtqwerty/stock_backtester

I made a trading strategy back tester in python and wanted to share.

Running the `backtest.py` file will start a run. Strategies can be written as scripts and added to the `add_strategies` function. If anyone has any requests, I'd be happy to add strategies for anyone who just wants to run the program.

Here is an example of the output plot. Users can add as many strategies as will fit on the page, everything adjusts dynamically I think....

There's a lot more info in the README.md. I'd be happy to add any reasonable and useful features suggested in the comments or answer any lingering questions. Thanks for checking it out!

    Fossil (FOSL)

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 01:20 PM PDT

Stock is up almost 11% for today. Judging by overall poor sales, is it possible it keeps staying this way or do you see it having a correction and going down?

Does AMD Stock Have Any Upside Potential? - Market Realist

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 11:06 AM PDT

Does AMD Stock Have Any Upside Potential?

AMD stock has risen 200% in two years, and its volatility is higher than the market's. It has been technically strong for over a year, and its fundamental valuation is very high.

Is AMD disruptive? The answer is no, as it has not yet disrupted the market for industry leaders Intel (INTC) and NVIDIA, and it still fears its competitors will strengthen. However, AMD could become disruptive. Let's now look at whether AMD stock has any potential upside given its risks.

Kind of new, will recession or tariff-based losses effect US based stocks like KO and GOOG very much?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 01:20 PM PDT

I have some other stocks that are down so much I'm just gonna hold for years to come, but with news of a recession I'm thinking of selling my KO (up 18% from when I bought it) and my GOOG (down .28%) Is this a good idea? Or will the rumored crash likely just effect more international stocks who get supply from China such as NVDA? Thanks in advance.

is there a possible way to track institutional transactions like vanguard what they are buying and selling?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 12:39 PM PDT

I have been trying to look for it and its actually really hard...unless you manually check. Itss very important becasue they have been purchasing a lot of beyond meat stocks. they are the fuel and blood behind beyond meat concept. And i want to know more about it...

one thing i noticed the taste and texture of beyond meat is not consistant, so it raises questions, if this concept is just fad? Have there been other 'organic food' or healthy food stocks, that have reached a plateau? which ones are they? Any direction would be appreciated. Its really hard to investigate beyond meat, and vanguard. With beyond meat who they are partnering up with, why are their taste and texture inconsistant... and vanguard who they are purchasing and selling with.

Anyone here to corporate or other type of bonds? How do you diversify your portfolio?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 08:45 AM PDT

Due to how the market is right now and the political volatility that there is in the world, I have decided to invest 60% of my portfolio in preferred shares. My main ones are from big banks. GSPRA, USBPRH, WFCPRN, DKT, DXB, and SLMBP. Any preferred shares to recommend? How do you handle diversification in your portfolio?

Stock picking - Sources, patterns and signs?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 07:25 AM PDT

The question is, how do you choose stocks to take a closer look at? Are there any signs a stock is undervalued, so a full grown analysis (i.e. like described in the intelligent investor) is justified or do you just choose a random, mostly unknown stock and judge after your analysis?

It is mostly a matter of time to have at least some quick refrence of a stock to say if it is worth a closer look.

Thoughts on TEC (TD Global Technology Leaders ETF)

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 04:26 AM PDT

Hi everyone I just started getting into stocks and the world of investing and still consider myself a beginner. I've been looking into some ETF's to start out with and found this one but it is still very new. (Earlier this year) I'm inclined to hold off on buying this but the holdings do interest me.

    I'd appreciate any advice thanks!

Everyone recommends those but I made my Schwab checking and IRA before hearing about them...I don't feel like making multiple IRA accounts.

Edit: obviously you can buy the above ones in Schwab but not commission free.

    Posted: 25 Aug 2019 05:03 PM PDT

Out of curiosity, how many people invest in VTI regardless of price VS waiting for it to hit a certain price?

I buy and hold all of my stocks for the most part and VTI is one of them regardless of price. Am I crazy?

Is investing in stocks right now a bad idea because a recession might happend soon?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2019 06:53 AM PDT

    Hi

I want to invest in stocks. Im super interested in investing in AMD and Nvidia and some other it stocks. Altough. The market has been in such a high for several years now. From what we know historically, there's a good chanse that a recession might happen soon. Maybe this year, maybe next year.

Is it a good and safe idea if I wait with investing in stocks until the recession happen first?
