Amazon investigating claims its Chinese supplier used illegal child labor to make Alexa devices Posted: 09 Aug 2019 05:06 AM PDT Chinese schoolchildren worked illegal overtime and night shifts to produce smart speakers for Amazon, according to leaked documents seen by the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper. Teachers were reportedly paid to accompany children to work and asked to encourage "uncooperative" students to take on additional overtime. While Chinese labor laws allow the employment of juvenile workers aged between 16 and 18, it's illegal for them to work night shifts or overtime. [link] [comments]
Chase Bank cancels all credit card debt for Canadian customers Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:53 AM PDT Chase Bank is forgiving all outstanding debt owed by customers of its two Canadian credit cards as it exits the country's market. Customers using the Amazon.ca Rewards Visa and the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa were pleasantly surprised to find the balance on their credit cards had been wiped clean. The US-based bank, part of the firm JPMorgan Chase & Co, announced in March 2018 that it was closing its two Visa cards and leaving the Canadian credit card market after 13 years. Thoughts on buying Soft Bank? (SFTBY) Posted: 09 Aug 2019 03:35 PM PDT I don't know much about the company besides that they invest in a ton of new tech companies, as well as owning Boston Dynamics. Their shares seem very cheap right now but I've seen a lot of people say that they have a lot of potential to grow. What are your thoughts? [link] [comments]
Vegans are wary of Burger King's Impossible Whopper after controversy over cooking process Posted: 09 Aug 2019 05:02 PM PDT Burger King's plant-based Impossible Whopper is launching nationwide Thursday. Some vegans and vegetarians are saying on social media they will not eat the meat-free burger because it is cooked on the same grill as chicken and beef. Customers can request that their Impossible Whopper is cooked separately. [link] [comments]

Goldman Sachs, bank of the rich and powerful, is dipping into subprime lending with Apple Card Posted: 09 Aug 2019 04:57 AM PDT https://www.cnbc.com/2019/08/09/goldman-sachs-is-dipping-into-subprime-lending-with-apple-card.html Goldman, which is in charge of deciding who gets the Apple Card, is accepting some applications from users with less-than-stellar credit scores, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Apple wanted its bank partner to create a technology platform to approve as many of its 100 million-plus iPhone users in the U.S. as possible, within the bounds of regulations and responsible lending, according to the people. "I was absolutely shocked I got it," said one early user with a FICO score of 620. [link] [comments]

Stock trading platform/app usable in west Africa? Posted: 09 Aug 2019 05:06 AM PDT Hello everyone, I'm a teen, in west Africa(Nigeria), and I'd like to know if there are any solid/trust worthy stock trading platforms or apps that I can use. I know of 2 brokers(1 with a platform and 1 without) but even so I'd like to know of any you would recommend. It would be great if the broker allowed for international stocks and not just local. The one platform I've seen over here that has some reputation only has local stocks [link] [comments]

Stock market investing simulator? Posted: 08 Aug 2019 09:42 PM PDT Hi All! I read that for most investors in the stock market, it's best to just put X amount of money into an ETF consistently over a long period of time. I was planning to start with about $5,000 on the last day of each month, for 36 months. I dont' really have the time, knowledge, or experience to buy individual stocks, so I just wanted to buy ETFs such as VOO, SPY, etc. Every month for 36 months. Before I did this, I wanted to see how I would've done in the past. Had I started in 2007 for example, how I would be doing today. Is there any investing simulator which allows me to plug in $5000 worth of shares of particular ETF from X date to Y Date over a 36 month period to see how I would've done? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Aug 2019 10:22 PM PDT So it's officially been my first year of trading on the stock market. I started off with $1000 and I got about a 17% return over the year with my shares in Microsoft, Main Street Capital, Ford (sold when it peaked), and AMD (recently bought the dip after I heard the CEO cleared the rumors of her leaving). It's been a fun experience and I really would recommend it for those looking into investing [link] [comments] |
