Posted: 30 Aug 2019 01:07 PM PDT I'm in Texas and she mentioned a law where if they find out I don't have insurance on a registered vehicle I can get my license suspended. Is this true? And if so what do I need to do to insure I don't get my license suspended? [link] [comments] |
Was involved in a collision while stopped, what can I do? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 11:28 PM PDT So yesterday around 3:20pm i was involved in a collision coming out of a store's parking lot. There were two lanes(left, right) going the same direction and I was about to turn right on the closet lane. I stopped near the end and check my right then left as there was a car about to enter the store. I was hit from the driver side fender and messed up bumper, fenders, hood and grill. I ended up on the curb and didn't move my car and parked it and went to go make sure the driver was safe. He moved his car and suggested we take pictures else where (where he works). I didn't want to because I wanted to take pictures at the scene where my car ended up. He claimed I hit him, the damage on his car was only the passenger side fender and then bumper. He wanted to exchange information before getting the police involved. In the end we all exchanged information and our cars were still drivable. I don't really know how to go about it. Another person had contacted me saying that he hasn't been here that long and wanted to know the story, i figured that was his boss because he had a limited term license and assume he wasn't from the U.S. I contacted both insurances, mine and his. No one in my family is helping me with this and I'm not sure if I'm liable or not. I ask the store if I could check their footage however they said that they checked and didn't catch the collision. Edit: this was in TX and his car was a company car. [link] [comments] |
Reporting fender bender to insurance possible hit and run Posted: 30 Aug 2019 11:27 PM PDT A car merged into my lane and hit the side of my passenger door. Basically like the car was right next to me and went an inch further but obviously did not make enough space for their car. It is a busy road where it happened since the speed limit is 50mph. I cautiously started moving lanes to get to the side of the road. The car tailgated behind me. I finally managed to stop my car on the side of the road. I expected the car to pull over with me but just took off. I wasn't able to get the plate number but I only remember the color and make of the car. My car only has 4 small scratches. I did not call the police since I figured this was something minor. I should note my car has been hit while parked while in Mexico. It has paint marks which implicated because this car that hit me was white too but made the scratches on the front passenger side door. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2019 08:44 PM PDT So my truck was stolen a few days ago. May be a dumb question but I also had my golf clubs in the back. Insurance company is stating they won't cover them. Which if I replace them will put me out of pocket like $2000. Not the absolute end of the world but pretty shitty. Anything I can do or say that may get them to reconsider covering them? Car Accident Shakedown - advice requested! Posted: 30 Aug 2019 11:30 AM PDT So, long story short, I was in a car accident almost 2 months ago. Small fender bender, I was liable, we both had insurance. It was taken care of by my insurance company and I was told that everything is taken care of and i shouldn't hear anything about it going forward. Fast forward to now, I just received a text message from the guy I was in an accident with, with him saying that his car was in the body shop for 27 days (auto shop told my insurance they were only actively working on his car for 11 days). Of those 27 days, he had a rental car for 22 days. He says my insurance will only pay for 11 days of the car rental, and not the 22 days, and that I will be responsible for the rest of it . I already talked to my insurance agency, and they assured me I have nothing to worry about. If he does decide to take me to small claims (which would be insane) they would cover me. Have any of you guys ever experienced something like this before, and do you think I have anything to worry about. Also, to be clear, I never responded to him and I have no plans to respond to him. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Opps, forgot about flood insurance. How screwed am I? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:49 AM PDT Prepping for the impending hurricane and just realized I don't have flood insurance at my new house. Progressive says they can't issue me a new flood policy until the storm passes. We have homeowners insurance and hurricane coverage through that. I know that I won't be covered if we get damage due to rising flood waters but would my home owners insurance cover us if we had water damage caused by rain coming in through a window broken from flying debris in the storm? I was going to post a picture of my policy declaration page but can't figure out how to do so (sorry, still kind of new here). Location: Florida, in the path of Dorian [link] [comments] |
At fault driver disputing claim Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:17 PM PDT So my neighbors backed into my car. They were on their way to hospital I felt bad and said to just go and we'll figure it out tomorrow. Filed a claim the next day with Geico. They call and let me know that the neighbors are disputing the collision because I was parked in a "no parking zone" I make an appointment with Geico to make a statement on my side of the story. Technically said that being parked on my own property is not a "no parking zone". Don't hear anything for 2 weeks call back to follow up. They have another girl in the place of the original person. She said that all my claim says is that the neighbors are saying that the damages to my car were there prior to the accident. I'm so co fused? Did the neighbors change their story? Like do I need to make a new statement what happened to my original statement? I know my original statement was recorded did they just throw it out and make up a new story? Idk if this is Geico's fault or the neighbors now. [link] [comments] |

hit a parked car and driver doesn't want to go through insurance Posted: 30 Aug 2019 05:16 AM PDT hi! so yesterday i hit a parked car in the parking lot (no one was in the car). the driver of the car i hit does not want to go through insurance. we agreed for me to pay him 1250 next week (for a new bumper and tail light). when we meet up should i have us sign a form that says he can't ask me to pay more for the car later down the road and saying that i paid for all of the damages? what what i include on the form and how would i go about making it? thanks :) edit: i don't know if this is relevant but we are both college students! this is my first time being in a situation like this so i have no idea what to do. he also said that it would be 350 for a new tail light, 500 for a bumper, and 400 for labor for a mercedes. Car insurance, for a young man. Posted: 30 Aug 2019 12:22 PM PDT Hey, im looking to insure my car. All the prices i find are way too high for me. I own a 2007 mustang fully paid for. In my name. It cost me $7000. So insurances wants to charge me 600 for down and monthly is going to be 400. I only have a year with my license. The car too. I could basically buy another car in a year with the money im giving them. What gives? Is there any way i can lower it? Any good ones you recommend? [link] [comments] |
Do I have to carry an SR-22 with moving? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 04:06 PM PDT I'm having issues not earning enough money to pay (car insurance). I'm required to get an SR-22 in the state of IL it's mandatory, although I moving to TX due to the fact can't afford this payment. I can't find a job here not knowing anybody to depend on and struggling to make money in this state not working out for me. So I need to know how this SR-22 work I never gotten it from my driving career in till now. Would this effect me when I've move? [link] [comments] |
Likely total loss to my '17 Honda Civic LX Posted: 30 Aug 2019 03:02 PM PDT So basically i'm here to get an idea of what's going to happen with the claim on my car accident because I know these things can take a while. my bf was in an accident driving my car, he's a covered driver on my policy. the accident involved 4 cars and no injuries. the claims adjuster said it's looking good for us because he's likely not at fault (the driver who caused the crash tried to make a right turn in front of him going 45mph). We have witnesses and police report. They said it's likely the car will be a total loss, there was a lot of damage to the front and side of my car, the airbag deployed, and the engine wouldn't turn over when he tried to move my car. I owe 20k on my car though and it's only worth about 15-17K based on KBB and sale listings. I do have gap insurance but not sure how that works. I think the insurance will cover the value of the car and gap is supposed to cover the rest? and will this affect whether they decide to total it? Also, there's a good chance that the guy who caused the crash doesn't have insurance because bf heard him say something about how it's his 3rd crash in 2yrs. and he might've heard the officer issue a citation not sure if that's related. Does this mean I'll have to go through my insurance and the $1k collision deductible will be taken from the final payout? Do I have a case if I were to seek a lawyer regarding his possible no insurance and me claiming loss of wages since I now have no car? The guy who towed my car said something about gathering the receipts for maintenance and the window tinting I had done and send that to my insurance because I might be able to get some $ back from that as well. When should I go about doing that? What can I do to make this go as painless as possible? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2019 02:23 PM PDT I just rented a Penske truck and bought the limited damage waiver. However a low tree on the side of the road clipped the top right corner of the truck's storage compartment and dented it in causing noticeable damage. Does the insurance I bought cover this? From their website: Limited Damage Waiver (LDW) LDW covers you from financial responsibility if you experience any loss or damage to the truck or towing equipment except if the vehicle or equipment is used in any manner that violates the rental agreement terms. Totaled my car and I don't have my title. Posted: 30 Aug 2019 12:38 PM PDT Long story short - I totaled my car, it was a no fault hydroplaning incident. Geico told me my check amount, and said I have to send the title by September 29th in order to get the check. No biggie, I thought. Well fuck me, did I think wrong. This brings me to my title... I bought my car out of a lease in March 2019 through Chase. I sent and filled out everything they needed from me within 48 hours - and here I am 6 months later still waiting on my title. I keep getting told this is due to "chase waiting on documents to send to the DMV." I don't understand, and I feel like I've been getting told the same bullshit for months. How does obtaining a title take 6 months? I feel so naive in this situation and I'm getting heavily fucked around. Does anyone have any idea what I should do? Is this a normal situation? Whoever is reading this, thank you. I'm a bit desperate, and a whole lotta confused. I understand that life isn't easy, but I don't think it has to be this nonsensical either. Damn. P.s. if I'm on the wrong subreddit, my bad. [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on tesla offering insurance? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 12:31 PM PDT Any thoughts from people in the industry or familiar with car insurance? Their rates seem very competitive. Plus they would have the parts for repair and details on the car. Downside is they are definitely overwhelmed when u deal with them in sales and service. https://www.tesla.com/support/insurance Was only $119/month in San Diego, CA for the below coverage. (Which is changable on the coverage this was just what it defaulted to) [link] [comments] |
I have a simple question, anyone willing to help? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 12:18 PM PDT I am planning to get insurance license in my State MN. I mainly interested on Property & Casualty license – basically I want to sell car insurances. My question is, if I pass the P&C exam, and hopefully get the license, am I required to work under one of the big Insurance companies, or I can open my office as an independent insurance salesman? Questioning if I should renew our flood insurance Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:18 AM PDT When we purchased our home, we decided to get flood insurance. However, our annual bill came in the mail and I'm wondering if I should renew it. We are not in a high risk flood area. (The home is in an X zone.) We are also in a low-risk area when it comes to hurricanes. Our home does not have a basement (house is on a concrete slab) and the drainage around our house is fine, even with heavy rains in the past. I've talked to our insurance agent, but their line is pretty much that there will always be some amount of risk. I've also tried to read as much as I can online and look at similar questions, but most of the people concerned about flooding have a basement to worry about. Our cost is about $400 annually, so I'm hesitant to push that "pay" button if I don't need to. Thanks for any advice/thoughts/reality checks you have to offer. Update: thanks to everyone who was kind enough to chime in. I'm going to renew the insurance based on this great info and your recommendations. [link] [comments] |
Should I report to car insurance? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:49 AM PDT The potholes here in Chicago are numerous and some quite large. In May, I went over one and broke the front struts. I had the repairs done at a cost of $1300. About a month later, I went over another pothole and had to have more repairs (back struts). I have now spent $2600. I checked online and found that I can submit a claim to the city, to try to recoup some of the repair money. But upon reading the form, I found that I had to report the incident(s) to my insurance (State Farm) because the damage was over $500. They want a letter from the insurance company attached. I am concerned that if I report these incidents, then my insurance rate will go up, even though I received no benefit from State Farm. I also have discovered that the chances of the city awarding me any money is low. Should I proceed, or forget it? [link] [comments] |
Does it make sense for my insurance rate to go up when switching from a truck to a compact car? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:18 AM PDT I went from a 2008 Nissan Frontier with 261 hp to a 2012 Mazda 3 with 155 hp. My thought is the Mazda is less powerful, newer, and probably safer so why is it more? Do you think if I tried another company it would go down? Geico put me up $7 a month because the car. [link] [comments] |
short term disability question Posted: 30 Aug 2019 04:47 AM PDT I have a hypothetical STD question. My job requires that I am able to drive. Also there is no light duty offered, unless it relates to workers comp. Let's say I need ACL surgery and I am unable to to drive/return to full duty for 5 months. Will STD still continue to pay if my doctor releases me to work under xxxx restrictions, but my employer does not allow me to return? Edited to add.. I am union and have a contract, they have to hold my speecific job for 6 months and hold any job for a year. I get my benefits for the first 6 months. [link] [comments] |
How do you really find a local independent insurance agent? Posted: 30 Aug 2019 07:46 AM PDT I'm at the point that it's time to get term life insurance. It's also time to re-quote car and home insurance to make sure I'm getting a good deal. I see on the FAQ that I should get a local independent agent. I am stuck at how to find a local independent agent. Yellow pages don't seem to exist anymore. So how do I...
Can an independent agent usually get quotes for disparate things that aren't usually bundled, like life insurance and home insurance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2019 04:30 AM PDT My 2004 trailblazer just got hit by a driver that had a seizure/stroke behind the wheel. The truck is potentially totaled but I put a lot of time, money, and most importantly love into it and I do not want to replace it; I want mine fixed. The truck was absolutely beautiful condition before this with only a dent in the front passenger door. It was a USA rear wheel drive nearly rust free truck and I am very attached/sentimental about it. My mom and dad bought it for me as my first vehicle that I then used to start the business I run today. I had plans on keeping it for as long as I possibly can and I was only a few weeks away from storing it for the winter. Already replaced the engine with an 05 out of a donor with only 65000km. This truck was reliable and needed nothing. $500 worth of wheel spacers, $800 worth of discontinued rims, $1000 in tires, cold air intake, etc. I know that blue book value isn't very high for these trucks and that is another reason why i want it fixed instead of a small amount of money that would get me half the truck that mine was. Info: Male early 20s. Located in St. John's Newfoundland. I have public liability business insurance and a business policy for my mobile service. The vehicle that hit me was a large truck towing a trailer with large generators (may have been a commercial vehicle) Im unsure of the drivers insurance type but he has insurance. Flatbed driver wasn't careful pulling it into the flatbed. The drivers side took all of the damages that I could see. Both rims were absolutely shattered along with the front strut, axel, hub, spacer, basically everything connected to the front left wheel. I'm unsure of the back left but since it was hit hard enough to smash the rim I can only assume the worst on that one as well. The back window and left tail light are smashed, the front bumper was ripped off and the rear bumper took some damage. The back left quarter panel around the gas cap, and both the front and rear door are dented. The rear is probably beyond repair but the driver door wasn't too bad aside from the missing mirror. The pillar above the tail light also had some damage on it and I didn't notice any fluids leaking out underneath. I'm hoping that since parts for this suv aren't too expensive and they're fairly common at the scrap yard, I'll be able to source the pieces I need without it being too expensive for insurance to justify covering on a 15 year old Chevy. if you have any advice on how I can get my baby fixed and not replaced I would greatly appreciate it. Edit: The truck was used as a mobile detailing service as well as a show/advertising vehicle. The driver was a ~20 year old male, I've received word that the police are laying charges to the driver and it could potentially be a DUI case, also his truck is insured under an oil company. Due to the nature of the business I'm well connected in the auto industry and can have a donor truck raided for parts. My main concern is not that they fix the vehicle, it's that they provide me with enough money to have the vehicle fixed, and not just the kbb value. I've hired a lawyer to handle insurance negotiations if they fail to provide reasonable compensation. [link] [comments] |
