ER in network but doctors out of network? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 06:48 PM PDT How does this work? So the ER is in network and covered by my insurance but the doctors working in it are not? I like how no one bothered to tell me that before I got treated. How is this legal? So my insurance covers the ER but not the doctors working in it? So what should I do just go there and die in it and not get treated? [link] [comments] |
Why must an auto accident insurance claim be settled all at once instead of incrementally? Posted: 06 Aug 2019 04:40 AM PDT I've had a friend who's been hit and injured twice in Ohio within a year and the other drivers were found to be at fault. We spoke to an attorney and he advised they have up to two years to have a claim settled. Our insurance has facilitated the claims to the offender's insurance who has paid off the vehicles under loan in each case. However, my friend has had to undergo numerous doctors visits, treatments, physical therapy sessions, and surgical procedures which have incurred significant cost. My understanding is that all the bills for these treatments need to be saved and presented to the offender's insurance company for a final claim sometime before the 2 year statute of limitations. Why is it not common practise for the bills to be addressed immediately with the offender's insurance? It seems unfair that the victim must accrue these expenses in the interim - especially if they are not within acceptable means. The billing departments have accepted payment plans which is helpful but I'm just curious how the "one final claim" became practise instead of incremental expenses being submitted to insurance as they accrue, and are of course justified. Am I stuck paying $20,000 for dental cleanings? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 09:34 AM PDT For the last year, my fiance has been seeing the same dentist for regular cleanings and x-rays. We have been under the impression that this dentist was in-network for his Cigna HMO dental plan. The dentist office has never indicated to us that they do not accept his insurance, or that the insurance had not paid his claims. We have never received a bill. After he received services for his third annual cleaning the front desk staff indicated that they had not been paid but could not tell him how much he owed. I logged into his Cigna account with him, and realized the dentist was out of network and he has claims upwards of $20,000. He is completely new to insurance, and I am not familiar with this particular plan. We realize now that he should have been confirming for himself between visits that this doctor was still in network. But honestly, I have never been to a doctor who would let me forget about billing or continue to see me when my insurance is not accepted. I do not understand how this happened, and obviously if he had known he would have stopped going immediately. He was only told that there may be a problem AFTER his third visit and even then they did not elaborate. This is more money than he makes in a year that he now owes (we think?) to this dentist for regular cleanings and xrays. If anyone has advice for how to negotiate this down with our dentist or any other helpful information to navigate this process we appreciate it greatly! As of now we have not spoken to the dentist office, but plan to call them this afternoon. [link] [comments] |

[CA] Pursuing Diminished Value from Triple A Posted: 06 Aug 2019 02:05 AM PDT [Background] Another driver rear-ended my vehicle last month and took full responsibility for the accident. Triple A (the other driver's insurance) paid around $8600 in damages and also a rental vehicle. My vehicle is currently being repaired at the body shop and won't be finished for another 2 weeks. I have Allstate insurance and my vehicle is a 2019 Nissan Altima S that I purchased in January. It currently has around 4500 miles. -What's the process for DV? -How long is the claim process for DV? -How much would it cost me? -Is it worth the hassle? Thank you for your time! I think my truck will be totaled. Buy back with loan? Posted: 06 Aug 2019 01:27 AM PDT So long story short I wrecked my truck. It's at the collision center right now. My frame rails look bent, along with the compete front end trashed in one way or another. Was a hit and run (i was ran on), and I'm the sob getting stuck with it. I have bought vehicles back from the insurance company before, but I owned them outright. the manger for the collision center walked over the truck with me and agreed about the frame rails. I will know for sure in the next few days. It's a 2018 ram diesel. Blue book is 36-40k. I owe 33k. I have a very aggressive repayment plan. I'm hoping to break out even with buying it back from my insurance co, spend the next few years rebuilding it. I have the shop, equipment, and tools. The questions are: Does anyone have an idea of buy back on such a new truck, I'm thinking maybe 6,000$? If I'm not breaking even with buy back with the equity. Will the lender usually let me make my normal payments? I don't see me making more then 6 months worth of payments, prolly closer to 3. I just don't have an extra 3 grand laying around. Should I contact my lender now about this issue?? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 06:56 PM PDT The county is building a school behind my home in Tennessee. The land is being leveled and an area has required explosives. The area has had multiple explosives detonated, perhaps a dozen or so? After a few days of detonations, I noticed that my brick veneer on our house had some new stair-stepping and a brick was actually cracked in half. These are new findings in my opinion. The county had a survey performed prior to the detonations and took pictures of 4 homes that were at risk of damage. I placed a complaint with the state fire marshal's office and also have reached out to the surveyor. I am waiting to hear from the fire marshal, he is supposed to be writing some sort of report. What can I do about all this? So far, they have told me that the detonations are below 2 on the Richter scale and are within acceptable limits. I feel like I have damage to my home. Does "uninsured" motorist coverage also cover underinsured motorist scenarios? Posted: 06 Aug 2019 12:36 AM PDT I was by a car while riding my bike. I am now learning about my insurance coverage. I love in California. I have auto insurance through Allstate. My policy includes "uninsured" motorist coverage. It does not mention anything about "underinsured." My question: Am I covered for a scenario in which another motorist is underinsured? Are these terms synonymous? Meaning, Uninsured = Uninsured/Underinsured? Or was I supposed to add underinsured to my policy in addition to uninsured? Thanks for any help. Just trying to learn as much as I can before trying to handle this. [link] [comments] |
At fault for being rear ended while parked? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 08:39 PM PDT Hello Reddit. I was rear ended on 7/3 while parked on the side of the curb legally in a residential area. My car was completely idle and off the road. I was inside my car when I was rear ended. The other party reports she lost control of her car because her brakes were faulty. She was very apologetic and cooperative and gave me all her information. I thought it was all very cut dry and all parties would agree she was at fault. Over a month later, I received a letter from my State Farm Insurance stating that I was 51% at fault for the accident due to "failing to maintain proper lookout". I'm just flabbergasted. How would I be failing to maintain proper lookout when I was parked on a curb? And how am I at MORE fault than the other party when she was the one who rear ended me due to her faulty brakes? They also want to take off my good driver discount because of this rear ending. Any advice would be appreciated. This is the second time I've been rear ended this year and I'm just fed up with insurance companies. [link] [comments] |
How to determine what I can eliminate on policy if I'm on a budget? Posted: 06 Aug 2019 12:16 AM PDT I need to find new car insurance this week after a large increase in my rates. I'm on a very tight budget. Trying to figure out where I can cut corners if I can't afford everything. But I need more than liability --- my car itself needs coverage in case of an accident. And I need to be sufficiently insured in case of any problem. Who can I talk to get help with this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 11:46 PM PDT I'm trying to get a rental car from Hertz and was confused about the liability insurance supplement. It would be in Louisiana so Hertz should automatically provide primary liability protection right? I don't own a car so I don't have car insurance so I was just wondering what kind of liability insurance I would need. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Auto insurance claim and government travel question Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:24 PM PDT I got hit recently. I'm not at fault but the it's recent enough that the other insurance hasn't accepted liability yet. I have a rental (sort of) and it's only authorized until the repairs are complete, pretty standard stuff. The issue I have is that my job is transferring me 10 hours away this upcoming Monday where I'm going to be staying for 4 months. The repairs will not be complete in 7 days, and there's no enterprise rental on the city I'll be staying; it's very rural. The only option I have currently is to wait for a rental vehicle to return because they're out of rentals currently because the firefighters have them for wildfire fighting. Then drive rental down to my new job assignment, get the call my vehicle is done, drive to the nearest city to drop off my rental (3 hour drive 1 way). Then pay out of pocket for a flight home to grab my vehicle then drive back to work. In which I will have to take leave from work, leave that I've earned and don't want to spend on retrieving my vehicle. My job only pays for the first trip down and the trip back. And per diem each day of course. As a federal employee are there any options for me to get my rental extended or to get a flight paid for me to get my vehicle or maybe lost wage compensation for having to take leave? Auto: I have insurance, I'm at fault, I got all the damage. How much should I reveal? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 05:19 PM PDT In Sacramento CA area: I bumped the truck in front of me at the traffic light, and got all the damage. The other driver was okay, we kept a copy of each other's driver's license, shook hands, and left. My insurance can cover part of my damage, maybe through my collision or comprehensive coverage. But now I'm wondering how much detail I should reveal about the incident and the other driver, so that a) I don't get myself in trouble, and b) I don't get the other driver in trouble. Posted: 05 Aug 2019 08:25 PM PDT Last month we closed on a house and obviously had an insurance Binder prior to closing. We were told we were all set; however, today received an email from The insurance company. They are now letting us know we need plywood hurricane shutters cut to fit all doors and windows as well as permanent anchorages installed on all doors and windows. This must be to IBHS standards. We were not aware of this prior to signing anything and this was not in any of our documents. We want to avoid an coverage issues but I am just totally clueless as to go to remediate this since we do not have IBHS plywood for shutters currently. [link] [comments] |
Car accident. Dealing with total loss. Posted: 05 Aug 2019 08:07 PM PDT Hi r/insurance, I wad just in a minor accident, but the damage may have been worse than I thought. Trying to prepare for the insurance company declaring a total loss. The car is rare. A guy who works with the haggerty collector car insurance agency told me never to sell it. They plan to star valuing them as collectibles this fall. It's a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 RS, completely stock, I'm the original owner. Only 376 imported, many modified beyond recognition or destroyed already. Only 65,000 miles. Values are already rising on nice examples of that generation. The RS models are particularly hard to find. The car is still perfectly drivable. Damage is too the hood, right fender, radiator support and right headlamp housing. My concern is this is one of those cars that the blue book value doesn't represent what they're going for in the market. It's actually hard to find a fair value because so few ate changing hands. I think I could get st least 20k for it. Blue book is around 15-17 last I checked. My insurer is state farm. Registered in PA. I'd like to be prepared to challenge/fight/dispute a total loss claim if they go that route. I'm willing to hire my own appraiser if it will help. Or at the very least dispute what I expect to be a lowball valuation. Looking for advice on how to prepare for this process and tips on negotiating with the insurance company. Thanks so much if anyone can help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 01:45 PM PDT So I'm preggo and without insurance (not qualifying for existing options due to my income being too high and a mountain of other reasons that resulted in this messed up situation). No private insurance will take me right now due to the pregnancy. I've read that birth is a qualifying event for ACA compliant insurance and is backdated to the day of the birth. Does this mean I could get the insurance to cover both my care and my child's for the birth? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Help with research---Biritsh insurance law Posted: 05 Aug 2019 06:52 PM PDT Not sure at all if this is the right place to post this, mods feel free to remove the post if it is. I am doing some research and is trying to find the section of British Insurance law that addresses this or similar questions. If a shareholder of a British-regulated insurer illegally holds the equity interest in the insurer and thus the shareholder is ordered by any British court or regulator to dispose of such shareholding, is there any general law provision setting out the price of said transfer shares? (I ask this because some countries have laws that in one way or another decrease any possible capital gain by the offenders) And would such forced disposal trigger capital gain tax on the transferred shares, assuming the disposal did indeed resulted in a capital gain? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Fender bender in friend’s vehicle - Who to make a claim with? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 12:47 PM PDT I was driving my friends vehicle (with him inside), when pulling into our driveway, I cut the turn too tight and scratched/dented the side of his vehicle with the rear bumper of my beater truck parked in the driveway. There was no noticeable damage to my vehicle. The cost of repairs is too much to pay out of pocket. How do I proceed? I know technically this is covered by his collision insurance but I don't want to make his policy go up because of my mistake. Would this be considered a not-at-fault accident even if it gets covered by his insurance? He wants me to tell my insurance I hit him pulling out of the driveway my with vehicle to cover the damage, but can we be straight with his insurance and not damage his rates since he was not technically at fault? How bad is my current health insurance? How much do you pay for health insurance? (Employer/self). Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:39 AM PDT $650, family of 2, $2500 yearly deductible/$5000 family deductible, via employer. Both in our late 20's, no health conditions. End up paying a lot for appointments if any as we almost never reach deductible. I know. It's shitty insurance. But how bad is mine really? Can you pls give figures to compare so I know whether to move? Trying to figure if healthcare is working in our country for citizens at least. I have heard about Medicare and Medicaid, those aside, what about the average citizen? Edit- I updated the deductible. No dental or vision. Also I'm a non citizen. The 650 is what I pay, probably the discounted rate cos it's from employer [link] [comments] |
Involved In a Car Accident, Received a Shady Letter from a Lawyer Posted: 05 Aug 2019 05:01 PM PDT Hello, I was recently involved in an accident in a company vehicle. It was my fault, scratched the other car, but noone was hurt. We filed a police report and that was that. A few weeks later, I received a letter from a lawyer saying they are pursuing subrogation, and that they needed the insurance information. I gave the information to my boss, who said he would handle it. However, today, I received another mail requesting the information again. Included in the mail was the police report of the accident (which includes all the insurance information btw). In addition, they sent two sets of pictures, one was the vehicle I hit, and the other was an entirely different vehicle that I did not hit, nor have ever seen in my life. I am about to write a letter providing the information they want but I am just curious.
I find this entire situation shady, and am not exactly sure what to do at this point. I don't exactly trust my boss either who told me he would handle it after I gave him the first letter, which he obviously did not. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Injured at work and my employer doesn’t have Workers Comp Posted: 05 Aug 2019 04:45 PM PDT [TX] Okay so I was in an vehicle accident while performing company assigned tasks. Deemed not at fault. And I just found out my company doesn't have workers comp only a Occupational Accident Insurance plan. Can someone give me the run down on these? What is the typical minimum coverage amount? Are the weekly payouts going to be on average what my paychecks were post accident or are they going to be a set amount or $500 max? Can I continue seeing the same doctors I have been or do I need to see a doctor they refer to me like workers comp? [link] [comments] |
Problems with long wait before getting estimate? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 12:41 PM PDT Another driver backed into me in a parking lot in December 2017. I filed a claim that day with my insurance, and (based on my dash cam video) they informed me in late January 2018 that I could send an estimate to the other driver's insurance for reimbursement. I received a contact phone number and claim number for the other driver's insurer. The damage was fairly minor, and for a variety of reasons, I have not done anything until now (which is probably dumb of me). Will I run into any trouble, or is there anything else I should be aware of, contacting the other insurance with an estimate since it has been about 18 months? Thanks for any feedback! Posted: 05 Aug 2019 03:11 PM PDT So I've been thinking about this for sometime now. I know I'm a piece of shit for this but anyway, long story short, I altered my grades in college for 1 or 2 semesters. I had no idea that they would be used for the good student discount when I sent them to my parents, and still not 100% if they actually were. This occurred a semester or two ago. This past semester I was completely honestly with my parents and told them my real grades (which dont qualify for the discount). Our insurance policy recently renewed and I no longer have the student discount, because we never sent in the transcript, and even if I did I wouldn't qualify because my grades wouldn't qualify. I'm really paranoid about this, and know I made a terrible mistake lying to my parents. I guess my question is, if a claim is possibly made in the future would they review the old policies? I know this semester I'll be able to qualify, just unsure if I'll end up going jail for this in the future... Thanks.. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Aug 2019 02:29 PM PDT I'm 18 years old, live in Kansas and I have done this whole claims process all myself. My car was hit while parked in front of my house destroying the fender, and the bumper. I am wanting the most out of my claim. I have a 1998 Ford Taurus SW with 230,000 miles. Actual cash value on my car is $500. After the accident I went and took my vehicle to get an estimate for damage, and the cost came up to $1,864. They offered me a "online photo estimate" which I kindly declined because I didn't trust it. I know they are going to total my car out, but I was told I could "buy" it back as a salvage title. & the website says I have the option to take it to one of progressives shops, or take it to my own repair shop. How do I go about showing them my estimate I got from the repair shop? Or do I wait for them to give me an offer first? I'm lost, and don't know what to expect. I'm young so I don't want them to feel like they can lowball me. They come tomorrow! Just need some advice on how to handle this! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
