Major weight off my shoulders today! Posted: 09 Aug 2019 01:48 PM PDT I just finished my last day of an assurance internship at a mid level firm and found out I'll be receiving a full time offer letter sometime next week. I still have a year of undergrad left and I'm planning on getting my masters so they said the offer will be for me to start in August of 2021. I grew up pretty broke, my dad worked in a steel mill and my mom worked for like $10 an hour for our public school system. I'm the first person in my family to go to college, I had to take out a pretty decent amount in loans but I was determined to at least make a step up from where I grew up. My dad was also diagnosed with a pretty rare form of cancer 2 years ago and had to take a medical retirement, which just tightened up money even more with the medical bills adding up. I know it's not that crazy of a story or anything but I don't really have anyone else to share this with, and I just feel so relieved! Edit: I'm so grateful for all of your kind words and support. Thank you all so much!! [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Aug 2019 06:19 PM PDT I just finished the last paper of my last class of my last semester. I have a full time B4 offer in the fall in NYC, a place I've wanted to live since I was a teenager. I was a music student who wanted more financial freedom, so I made a career change. If I can do it, TRUST me, you can do it too. As the late great Alex Jones once said, "I gotta be honest with you... I'm kinda retarded." In all seriousness, thanks for the not seriousness memes and the great advice. The next mission is the CPA. Wish me luck 🤘🏽 [link] [comments]
EY Bank your Bonus - 1 year later Posted: 09 Aug 2019 03:08 PM PDT Yes, this is a throwaway. Pretty proud of the name. I'm a rising senior at EY and turns out the bank your bonus program is continuing this year. You can take your 5k now, or defer it for 3 years (until manager) to get 25k instead. We have until the end of September to decide. Could any EY seniors who banked their bonus last year share their thoughts and experience with the program? Are you happy with your decision? Any regrets in either direction? Has your work-life changed significantly over the last year? I'm completely torn and have asked around my class to see what others are doing. People seem to be very decided on what they are doing, AKA they are either all-in with the firm or they have decided to leave soon. I personally just don't know where I will be in 3 years. I enjoy where I am, but I'm not attached. My plan completely depends on who I'm working with or what engagements I'm on. If shit sucks, I'll go. If shit is pretty ok, I'll stick around. Really no strong feelings either way which is what's making this so hard. [link] [comments]
Avoiding the "Are you a CPA yet?" questions Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:53 PM PDT I start as a Audit Associate in a large public accounting company on Monday. I have this feeling that a bunch of people will try to pry out how much CPA sections I've passed. The reality is that I've passed 1, so I'm planning to say something along the lines of "I have a couple left" or "It's not over till it's over, haha". I don't want to share this information until I've passed all 4 parts, since I have a feeling I'll be judged by co-workers and management. How did you guys handle these questions? Any tips? Experienced hire at B4 having a hard time to fit in Posted: 09 Aug 2019 06:19 PM PDT I recently took a job with B4 as an experienced associate doing something completely different from what I was doing before. I'm having a hard time fitting in. Extremely stressed out about the work I do with minimal training and I do not feel connected with the rest of the team. A little background story. I also relocated to a different city because of the job. I grew up overseas and moved to the US when I was 19. The new city is much less diverse compared to where I was so that could be a major factor too. Anyone who were experienced hires had similar experience? How long did it take you to feel comfortable being with the rest of the team? [link] [comments]

Former public accountants of reddit Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:20 PM PDT How long did it take you to secure the right position after you decided to leave public accounting and actively started interviewing? I am considering jumping ship and am just wondering how long it took others. Also, what was the position you took after leaving? [link] [comments]
Driving a beater while working in public accounting Posted: 09 Aug 2019 05:35 AM PDT I'm a former blue collar worker who changed over to accounting. One of the biggest adjustments is firms being concerned with appearance in front of clients (understandably). I'm pretty unconventional and would rather invest my money/pay off mortgage quickly than keep up with the Joneses. I drive a 15 year old, low mileage Honda that is mechanically sound but has paint chips and such. Will a firm frown upon driving a beater to a client site? [link] [comments]
Accounts payable example that just seems backwards. Posted: 09 Aug 2019 08:02 PM PDT Saw this accounting example talking about what an accounts payable is Am I crazy or is this wrong? "For example, imagine a business gets a $500 invoice for office supplies. When the AP department receives the invoice, it records a $500 debit in the accounts payable field and a $500 credit to office supply expense. As a result, if anyone looks at the balance in the accounts payable category, they will see the total amount the business owes all of its vendors and short-term lenders. The company then writes a check to pay the bill, so the accountant enters a $500 debit to the checking account and enters a credit for $500 in the accounts payable column." [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Aug 2019 02:18 AM PDT I've just resigned as a Senior from PwC, going into private on Thursday. In contrast to most of the people here, I feel like something's missing in myself. I'm sure I'm gonna miss the informality, the camaraderie of staying up at 2 working at some banal bullshit, and calling partners with their given names, yet the prospect of having a normal life isn't cheering me up as much as I thought it would. Anyone resigned and thought the same, as in 'Huh, that wasn't as good as I thought it would feel'? [link] [comments]

Associate tax position SF big 4 Posted: 09 Aug 2019 05:19 PM PDT Hey all- was curious if any of you had offers at any of the big 4 in SF and what your offers are/were? Trying to get an idea of what to expect. My offer seems low considering cost of living. [link] [comments] |
