For those of you in industry who are wondering if it’s possible to get into public...

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 09:43 PM PDT

    It is!

I graduated a year ago from a non-target school. I didn't do any audit internships. No Meet the Firms. No summer programs. No networking. No CPA qualifications. Not even an accounting degree.

But now, after a year of working as a Staff Accountant at a small company, I just got offered a position as an experienced hire with a top 10 international firm. There is hope!

    Big4 with no internship

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 10:04 AM PDT

    Hey fam 💖

Starting grad school here at a target school in two weeks. I was wondering if any of y'all got big 4 job offers without doing an internship with them. I worked in public accounting when I was in undergrad as a staff accountant, but it was for a small local firm as we didn't have any big firms where I went to a non-target school.

As always, bless you buddies for your advice!!!!

Where to look on tax return for hidden assets and $ ?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:15 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I'm an attorney representing the wife in an divorce case. My client doesn't have enough $ to pay for a forensic accountant to evaluate and dig deep into her husbands business. The business has been showing a continuous loss the past couple of years, yet the husband owes a ton of $ to the irs in taxes and his income prior to showing losses exceeds a million. I have a background in finance but by no means am an expert in accounting. Was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction in terms of what to look for on his tax returns. I've got the last 5 years. Thank you.

I'm just so excited and all my stress I've been dealing with is all out the window. I got a tax internship offer near my campus for next spring and it's the first step to me getting to that cpa! I posted a few weeks back asking some questions and I just wanted to share it with someone. Thanks for everything r/accounting!

Compilation of Specified Elements, Accounts, or Items of a Financial Statement

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 10:03 PM PDT

A client has requested a compilation of the balance sheet only since it is a new entity and there is no P&L activity. All the client has is cash and the requirement by the reporting agency that the client will be sending the financials to does not require disclosures. Does anyone know if you can do a compilation on a balance sheet only? The pre-clarity standards SSARS standards do not discuss if Compilation of Specified Elements, Accounts, or Items of a Financial Statement (AR sec. 110) is still applicable. AR- C Sec. 80 does not mention anything about reporting on one statement, in this case would be the balance sheet.

Ins and Outs and gotcha's of LinkedIn

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 03:58 PM PDT

I'm new to LinkedIn, so I have no clue what to watch for or how to set my account settings.

Point of reference: remember when everybody was joining Facebook and the world was happy, then you later discover your birthday and email address and all that stuff was out there for the public to see? Yeah... Good times.

I just want to join and navigate LinkedIn without having to later discover a GOTCHA!

    Got any tips for me?

Looking to move to Sydney, Aus. from Alberta, Canada

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:56 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

Anyone have experience moving to Australia from Canada? What was the transition like? (Designation transition and work culture-wise)

I'm also wondering what the work culture is like for CPA's in Sydney, specifically in industry and government compared to Canada.

Any advice/stories/tips would be appreciated :)

    Thanks !

What type of scam is this?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:00 PM PDT

So I'm an Accounting major currently in undergrad, and I have this info included in the bio of one of my social media's. I was contacted on said social media by a random person and asked to make "quick money" by helping a local business most likely because they saw my bio (or maybe not?). Obviously I will NOT participate and I immediately knew it was a scam. Didn't even reply back.

However being that I'm a student with a future career I would like to know out of curiosity how these type of schemes work to take future notice and have awareness of such things.

Person: Would you like to make quick money? Me: ?? Person: "Basically you're just helping the company **** keep their checks and balances moving at a correct rate .... so they transfer small profits to local people in **** To keep their rates from jumping over market...ONLY CATCH is you only get to keep 32% of the cash that's being transferred over so you'll be making a even profit of 1376$ which is the 32% out of 4300$....so ALL cash is legit and will be verified"

Are they attempting to claim they made less sales revenue so they have to pay less taxes? And therefore are transferring money to random people so it doesn't show up in the business accounts or any related owners? Is this just someone not even working for a business and attempting to just steal my banking info? Lol.
