    My favorites:

    1) Your questions aren't stupid. We are far more appreciative of questions than you might think. It saves us from tough conversations later because you didn't understand the product.

    2) Unless you have a weird record, comprehensive coverage is generally fairly inexpensive. For example, a reduction in your comp deductible from $500 to $100 may only be like $8/month more!

American drove car to Toronto, Canada. Meet with an accident. Need advice.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 03:37 AM PDT

In short I am visiting canada. Came on 2 weeks vacation. I drove my car here from New Jersey. On July 12, 2019 I met with an accident. I was going straight through the lights nd the guy comming from opposite side made a left turn nd hit me. I guess I am not at fault because I was going straight and the other guy taking a left turn should have yield to me. My car was towed from the accident. I have insurance through GEICO. They don't operate in Canada so they have to go through a 3rd party to have my car inspected and then appraisal would be approved by them. It seems like it's gonna take a month for everything to fix up. Anybody been through this situation or knows what can I do. July 29 and still i am waiting for the insurance compnay to do something. I can't go back to new Jersey because have to get car fixed and stuff when the inshurance approves the estimate. Can't stay here because employer gave 2 weeks holidays, been like 4 weeks I'm here. What are my options?

Thoughts on getting life insurance as a college student with no dependents.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 02:48 AM PDT

Simply put, I'm 21 and ride a motorcycle. Not trying to be dramatic, but in the chance something does happen I'm a bit worried about how my parents will handle.

What exactly does life insurance entail? Would it even make sense for someone like me to get life insurance?

Missouri auto insurance customers, you coverages are changing

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 09:46 AM PDT

Effective July 1, 2019 Missouri has increased the property damage state mandated minimum from $10,000 to $25,000.

What does this mean for you?

This means in the event you cause damage to property with your vehicle (impact to other vehicle, building, government property...) you are covered better. This also means that most likely your rates will increase. If you recieved notification from your carrier of an increase to coverage or premium feel free to ask questions and be informed about the product you are purchasing.

How much should I be paying for car insurance?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:16 PM PDT

I am 21 years old and I've been on my parent's car insurance since I got my license at 16. My parents still pay my car insurance but I only have liability and the car I have is 10+ years old, so what they pay is not too much. I'm looking to get a new car (well, new to me, but definitely used)- probably something like a 3-4 year old Camry or something like that. I have been in a few accidents, and two were considered "my fault", but they were well over 3 years ago. I have been in an additional car accident a little over 2 years ago, but I was not found at fault for that one. Other than that I've never had a speeding ticket or even a parking ticket. I was doing a little car insurance shopping online and it was telling me that full coverage insurance was going to be like $250 a month. Maybe I'm really out of the loop but that would be higher than my car payment so if anyone can tell me how much I should realistically be expecting to pay that would be great because if its really that much I'm probably not getting a car haha

Insurance for our 29 year old VW...

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 09:59 PM PDT

We own a triple white '90 VW Cabriolet with just under 40k original miles. It is a 3 owner California car but second owner has it only around a year. It is mostly original save for standard maintenance, safety, or wear items and is in overall fantastic shape inside and out.

Even the leather and rubber pieces are intact. No cracking, no dry rot. Dime sized rust spot below the windshield, which is common for these.

I currently have it insured as declared value at $7k, with American Collectors (I was referred and I think I get a discount via USAA) for $162/yr and I don't have any towing coverage, which is something I need to address. We're not supposed to drive the car that much and we've probably put more miles on than we should have/expected to at 2k/yr. They have never asked for statements of mileage though.

Values on these have gone up a good bit since we got the car and what few comparables I've seen in the last two years all have higher miles than ours and have gone for over $7k.

I'd like some recommendations on other companies to consider, how much I should really look at insuring it for, and what types of towing coverage I should consider. Best to look st something like AAA (the per-driver cost turns me off) or stick with what the insurance company might offer?

    Thanks!

If damages exceed insurance policy limit

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 06:56 AM PDT

Following a rear end car accident (my fault) the girl who's car I went into has some injuries that will require some surgery. My insurance bodily injury limit was $25000, and I don't believe she has underinsured motorist cover. A friend says that the girl's medical bills could be well above that limit and as she doesn't have underinsured motorist cover, this could be a big issue.

He says that my insurance will try to settle within the policy limit and if her costs are say $27,000 she will likely settle for the policy limit, but if her costs are well above my policy limit, he says it is unlikely she will settle for the $25000 limit.

So he advises that all I can do is hope for the best but prepare myself for her to be suing me and having to pay a substantial amount to her out of pocket. I haven't previously had any insurance limit issues so don't know what to expect, is what he says likely? State is GA.

Life insurance applications - how do you deal with people with health anxiety ? ie., how objective is your health assesment ?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 07:00 PM PDT

I am right now in the middle of what I am convinced is health crisis that is going to kill me.

But one part of me knows that this sort of anxiety happens anytime I fall sick. Last year it was when I had the flu... I was convinced about something awful...10 years ago I thought it was some other awful thing.

All this was brought about by me having correctly diagnosed myself with a cancer 15 years ago. Now of-course I cannot be wrong... the irony is that stuff happens and I recover etc., but if you ask me this minute what is wrong with me, I have a list of 5 potential awful diagnosis.

Also due to my previous history with correctly diagnosing myself with cancer, my doctors are more amenable to testing me for whatever I think is wrong with me. All this is great to a certain extent, since I dont mind paying out of pocket for these tests to make sure everything is working as it should.

But.... the real issue is I am 45 and need to be insured outside of work. My lucky streak of only imaginary illnesses will no doubt run out one day and I could actually die. I want to make sure my family is cared for.

So long story short: how do your applications deal with health histories such as mine, strewn with scary tests, that are mostly negative ? If I need my my health anxiety to trigger me to go buy insurance, then so be it.

Florida, newborn had to be born at a hospital with specific surgeon

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 10:56 AM PDT

My newborn baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and we had to come for a planned cesarean at a hospital with a highly skilled neurologist.

Her surgery was excellent and we're still here while she heals and awaiting the possibility of other procedures common with this condition.

So now that I look, I'm seeing that the hospital we're in does not seem to be under our insurance (bcbs Illinois). However the surgeon has our insurance listed under his personal office (possibly outdated info).

How do they handle this? I also wondered if it's possible to have the baby under moms insurance and Florida Kid Care (CHIP)? I'm really not sure what the better choice is here. Florida kid care says they cover hospital stays and surgery but is that all types?

So far our little miracle has undergone sealing of the spinal lesion and plastic surgery to move muscle over the correction.

They are truly amazing surgeons and I'm so happy we were brought here. But it's also time to decide the best way of handling this financially (hers was a late diagnosis and we had very little time). I really appreciate any help and opinions.

Why would an insurance company fight spend money on lawyers over a few thousand dollars

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 10:03 AM PDT

Many years ago I was in an at fault accident. The my insurance company and the other party couldn't agree on an amount so they other party ended up sueing. The thing is the other party sued by ways of court filing for under $20,000. From what I remember the difference between what the other party wanted and what the insurance offered was under $5,000.

Eventually it went to arbitration, their was a settlement, and case was dismissed.

The insurance company has much money, why fight something like this. I would have just given it to them.

    Bike hit Parked Car-Michigan

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 02:46 AM PDT

So today one of my friends accidentally lost balance on his bike and scratched/dented a parked car. The owner came running out and said it is a leased car and will have to repair no matter what. The owner wants to go through insurance, will my friend just pay her deductible or will he have to go through his auto or renters/homeowners insurance?

Old car in great condition bumped up. Get body work done or no?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 10:13 AM PDT

I have an old (2008 Honda - bought new, 130K miles now) car that is in great condition expect for some body damage. Scratches from a boom barrier and bumps from hitting the trash can. Both caused by our own bad driving and not an accident or anyone else's fault or involvement. The quote is about 2500 and I have a deductible of $600. At this point, with this old car and damage. I hope to get a new car in 2 years when I have some money saved. I don't expect to get much in trade-in and I'm OK with it.

My question is, when I sell my car, will the damage be reported to insurance and my rates go up (clean record for over 10 years, but can't say the same about wife). If that is the case, I might as well get the work done now, pay $600 for deductible and not have to drive a scratched and dented car. Please advise.

Question about health insurance though the marketplace.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 10:06 AM PDT

I started a new job on Wednesday. I know that you have within 60 days of new employment, you can sign up on the marketplace for new insurance. My question is about my daughter's insurance. She's had her insurance through the marketplace this entire year. But since I literally have no money until I get paid on the 15th, I can't afford to pay her insurance for this month. Would I be able to cancel her current insurance/allow it to lapse and be able to resign her up for insurance once I get paid?

I know this isn't an ideal situation but I need to be able to buy groceries and I literally can't afford both.

Car insurance (Liberty Mutual) being non-renewed due to roadside assistance claims

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 09:21 AM PDT

Over the last 4 years we had 6 flat tires and dead batteries that we called roadside assistance for. One accident two years ago. One glass claim 3 years ago for a crack in the windshield.

No points, we did the program where they tracked our driving and got close to the max discount.

Now they are dropping us. Why the hell even offer roadside assistance? We would have just gotten AAA.
