    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Jul 09, 2019

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 01:06 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions

The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price.

TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term.

Thoughts on PayPal (PYPL)? $117.93 (Up 36% this year)

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 08:37 AM PDT

PYPL has over 267 million active accounts, they have solid revenue growth, and they're in a good spot for the growing e-commerce market, but they might be overvalued right now. They're up. 36% this year and have a PE of 63.78. What are your thoughts?

    Beyond Reality

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 07:53 PM PDT

Has anyone actually tried a BYND burger? I brought the stock and sold. Made a little money. But then I said to myself, you have not even tried the product. I brought a package of 2 patties on sale at 4.99 from 7.99. Firstly, in 1 patty there are 20 grams of fat, 5 of which are saturated (113grams or about 4 ounces in a patty). That's quite a bit of fat compared to a lean cut of chopped meat. It does have 3 grams of fiber, which is healthy and more than a burger. It has 5.4 mg of iron - probably a bit more than a burger. More importantly, taste and texture. The texture was so so, IMO. A little too mushy for me. The taste. Just passable. No where nearly as much flavor as real meat. In a bun, with ketchup and lettuce, it may come within 75% of scratching a yen for a burger. But in my humble opinion, it is a fad stock and will eventually recede back to reality based on real numbers. *I no longer own this stock and am not shorting it.

Some analysts say buy, some say hold, some say sell. Some predictions are upwards of $300+/share in long term, others aren't as generous.

I just don't understand investing anymore maybe i'll stick to ETF's and call it a day.

Do you buy the services or product of the companies you invest in?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 12:58 PM PDT

Simple question. I recently invested a bit into Zynga Games, and was thinking of spending a little bit of money on their games even though I'm not a huge cell gamer, or gamer in general anymore.

Does anybody else buy their investment's product or service?

Amazon Is Gaining in Deliveries at the Post Office’s Expense, Analyst Says

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 09:58 AM PDT

The retailer is likely to be one of a number of companies that are taking market share for so-called last-mile deliveries away from the U.S. Postal Service, according to Cowen analyst John Blackledge.

Amazon Prime members can receive some package in one day instead of two, and a broader rollout is on the way.

That's good news for Amazon.com (ticker: AMZN), but not for the U.S. Postal Service, one analyst says. "We expect Amazon's move to Prime 1-day delivery will drive higher conversion rates, leading to accelerating unit growth in the second half of 2019 and into 2020," wrote Cowen analyst John Blackledge in a note on Monday.

He expects Amazon to be one of a number of third-party distributors that will continue to take a significant share of the U.S. market for "last mile" deliveries, those that bring a package to its final destination, typically someone's residence.

Amazon's additional market share—and gains in merchandise sales and revenue—will come largely at the expense of the U.S. Postal Service, Blackledge said.

Growth in the volume of parcels delivered by the post office dropped from 21% in 2016 to 6% in 2018. There was a 5% year-over-year decline in the first quarter of 2019, according to post-office figures the analyst cited.

The decline comes as Amazon ramps up some of its faster shipping programs and shifts to other options for last-mile deliveries. Blackledge estimates that the share of Amazon's last-mile deliveries handled by the postal service will drop from about 54% in 2018 to about 35% in 2024. His previous estimate was for a share of 45% in 2024.

The postal service didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Other players, such as DHL International, and Amazon affiliates including its Uber-like in-house program Amazon Flex, and its Delivery Service Partner program, are picking up that market share.

Cowen estimates that these other distributors combined will account for 23% of Amazon's delivery volume in 2019. The total will rise to 43% by 2024, Cowen predicted.

Blackledge maintained a Outperform rating on the stock and a price target of $2,500.

Amazon stock was up 0.8% to $1968 on Tuesday morning.

Facebook, will it ever get over $200?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 06:59 AM PDT

I have a small amount of FB stock for a year or so. This is my first time doing this. I worked for a company and quit. I was left with a couple thousand in a 401k. I invested it in hopes that FB would get over the $200 mark so I could put that money into a mutual fund. So it's been up to 197 lately. Should I hold out for the almighty $200 or sell at 197? Will it go higher? Thanks.

How much can you predict by studying economic situation of a specific country + studying a company deeply ?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 01:18 PM PDT

    Hi,

this is something I have been wondering about lately. Anyone here has success with stocks by studying the economy and politics of countries and studying the companies/niches they invest in ? Or is it a "gamble" even when a person understands these phenomenon. Thanks :)

    NIU (electric scooter)

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 12:09 PM PDT

The electric scooter company is growing rapidly (at the moment 70-100% revenue yoy). They are like Tesla in the premium section of the market (using Panasonic cells and a good smartphone app) In addition, they achieved a net profit with a solid gross-margin in Q1. Roughly 80-90% of their sales are in China. They are (in the subset of Lithium-Ion scooter companies) among the market leaders. In Europe, the scooters from Niu are, in my perspective, the best value/cost option in the market with rising market shares.

The stock price decreased rapidly from over 13 USD to 6 USD. Implying only a 10 PE ratio for next year.

Time to invest? Does anyone from China has some insights about their current sales?

Spirit Airlines should see increased revenues from grounding of 737 Max at rival Southwest Airlines and American Airlines

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 12:05 PM PDT

Delta Air Lines last week reported that revenue per available seat mile (RASM) reached the high end of its guidance range last quarter. Spirit Airlines has much greater route network overlap with Southwest and American than Delta does and with a very cheap valuation (2019 PE 9.0) its definately worth a look.

Thoughts on My 4 Current Stocks and Investment Plans?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 11:26 AM PDT

    Hello Reddit,

I've gotten into investing recently and I've only invested in the following 4 stocks currently:

    $BMY - 20 shares averaging $45.70 ($914 total)

    $CTST - 120 shares averaging $3.79 ($455 total)

    $USNA - 7 shares averaging $61.49 ($430 total)

    $KLDO - 12 shares averaging $8.63 ($104 total)

Curious about your thoughts/opinions. Generally, thinking long-term with these stocks though that could change. $BMY is definitely the one I'm most committed to long-term.

I do plan to invest another $3000 into ETF's with good, consistent track records. And probably another $1,000 or so into other stocks that catch my interest. Finally, $6000 into a Roth IRA that's heavy on stocks. I'm 26 years old and live in a fairly inexpensive city (Midwest). I think investing $12,000 this way each year should make retiring around 60 very possible.

Thanks for you thoughts and opinions! Happy investing.

    Zombies companies

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 07:26 AM PDT

Anyone knows any stocks from companies that are considered "zombies"?. Zombies companies mean a company that needs bailouts in order to operate, or an indebted company that is able to repay the interest on its debts but not repay the principal.
