    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Jul 30, 2019

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 01:07 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions

The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price.

TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term.

Such a dick move by BYND - Beyond Meat

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 02:41 PM PDT

    Editing:

The founders decided to sell a portion of their shares 2 months in advance. Why would they do such a thing ? Probably they know the stock is overvalued and if they wait for the normal lockup expiry, the stock would have gone below than cureent values.

Is history gonna repeat itself ? Like GOPROs founders rewarded themselves before the lockup time. The stock reached a peak of around 90 dollars and hasn't recovered since.

Such a duck move indeed.. Why are you people a bunch of ducks ???

Can someone ELI5 BYND - Beyond Meat?

I'm new to investing and am just curious why the company is valued so high and why there is even so much talk about it? I feel like knowing about this is a good lesson for the future.

Has the BYND bubble officially popped

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 01:26 PM PDT

We saw -12% after hours yesterday followed by a deadcat bounce this morning. Stock is again -12% today sitting at 194. I am holding some puts that I am considering adding more to but I hold some reservations. I think a fair valuation is around 75-100 per share but if a big dive happens, I wonder how low it will actually fall considering IPO lockup and I think a lot of people/institutions will hold and prop up the price. Thoughts? Is this stock finally coming down to earth and if so, how low will it go?

    [Discussion] $SLS

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 11:39 AM PDT

There's a general question buried in here about biotech companies, and their stocks, in general. But SLS is the one I have had an eye on, so I will use it as the example to hopefully learn a thing or 2 from some of you more seasoned investors in the biotech space.

They basically have nothing more than a promising pipeline at this point. Their reports show success in their clinical trials so far for the treatments they have been working on. And they are due to report results from a Phase 2 clinical trial "any day now", after a QC update was released a few weeks ago.

The stock has been beat down (~ -97%) in the last year. The speculation is that a short squeeze will happen when this P2 report comes out, IF it is positive.

Even then, the company will still have several Phase 3 trials to complete, and capital to raise for those trials, before they can market these treatments. So they will still be profitless, if I am understanding this all correctly.

My direct question is, what has historically happened with companies that release positive results but still have nothing in the market to profit from? After the shorts close their positions to stop the bleeding (if speculation ends up turning to reality), does the stock continue to rise or flatten on the good news alone? Or do they usually drop back down until the company starts generating real profit?

I know there are a lot of dark clouds around SLS in particular, and the general risk of speculative investing. This isn't a "make me feel better about my investment" post. As mentioned above, just using them as the example bc it is the first biotech I have really looked into.

    Enphase-Enph Overvalued?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 01:16 PM PDT

Hi, I'm curious on what are people's thoughts on ENPH. I'm fairly new to the market but I've got lucky and watched enphase rise from $8 to sitting around $24. I keep reading it's overvalued but with the rising solar market and their tech getting better. I personally feel there's a lot of room to grow and expand. Again I'm fairly new and might be missing something that truly gives the idea of them being over valued and that's why I want to know from you more experienced ballers out there.

    LK and NAK madness

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 02:18 PM PDT

Today was a rough one for me. I bought NAK early last week on a whim, noticing some quick price movements that I figured I could take advantage of and then bail. I made about 6% off of it and figured that this wasn't going to make any significant moves. Wow was I wrong. It went up 67% today out of nowhere. I looked for news and didn't see anything posted around the time that it went up, but at 3:00 (over an hour after the price went up 35%) I heard word of the EPA's decision to scrap the restrictions on one of their mines.

Then there's LK. It's been doing nice lately, but then suddenly dropped 8% today. What gives? What really hurts the most is the money I had in NAK I moved over to LK to bolster that yesterday, only for this to happen.

I guess the real question is this: How could I have known about either of these events happening? I'm admittedly still a noob at this, but I'm trying my best to research companies before I buy into them, but it hasn't seemed to do me any better than just randomly choosing stocks. Is there a specific news app or website I should pay attention to for these things? This isn't the first time something like this has happened, where I sell one stock to bolster another that seems to be outperforming the other, only for my expectations to be the exact opposite of what actually happens. As of now I feel like people could make great money off of watching me and doing the exact opposite, lol.

Any funds or stocks to watch if wanting to buy into clean energy?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:25 AM PDT

I'm looking to put some money into renewable energy. Stuff like solar, wind, etc. I know there is a pretty good amount of risk involved, but I'm 23, so I'm fine with risk, and I really believe in the future of the technology. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    New guy

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 10:09 AM PDT

So I started trading online about 4 months ago, I like it a lot because of the rush I get from the excitement! The reason I wanted to ask a question was I find it amazing how many companies there are in the world and wanted to know how you guys find the stocks that work for you? Do you check up coming quarterly earnings for companies? Or do you just google search a start up? Anyway I don't want spoon fed but just pointed in the right direction because blue chip stocks are way too rich for my blood now, Thank you for any information!

Thoughts on stocks like Chipotle and T Mobile if we hit a recession? Have any picks for other recession proof stocks?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 12:08 PM PDT

Hypothetically speaking, if the US should enter into a recession, will businesses that offer "less than premium" products or services thrive in an economic downturn? Interested in "recession proof" stock picks as well.

    Diamond in the rough? GPVRF

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 10:43 AM PDT

What do guys think about this stock? I know it trades on the OTC and is definitely a micro cap but the have plans to list on the NASDAQ before year end. They just posted record revenues of 6M, orders of over 200 buses. The risk reward seems a little bit more skewed to the reward right now.

Future of video streaming/content production (NFLX; AMZN)?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 09:18 AM PDT

Is video streaming, or at least original content production essentially dead/unprofitable. Despite customers waiting for a few hit shows (e.g. Stranger Things) subscriptions were down. Amazon Video has cancelled their strongest shows (Sneaky Pete; Patriot).

Has the "website as content producer era" simply proven to be unprofitable?

    NTDOY DRIP?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 07:59 AM PDT

My current broker doesn't allow DRIP for Nintendos ADR NTDOY. Does anyone know of a broker that does without it having unreasonable fees that would dissuade me from using them. Or how would I go about finding this information without calling each broker one at a time to ask?
