    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Jul 02, 2019

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 01:07 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions

The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price.

TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term.

Tesla just announced Q2 deliveries way above estimates: Currently +7% in afterhours

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 01:28 PM PDT

    https://ir.tesla.com/news-releases/news-release-details/tesla-q2-2019-vehicle-production-deliveries

In the second quarter, Tesla achieved record production of 87,048 vehicles and record deliveries of approximately 95,200 vehicles. In addition, Tesla made significant progress streamlining our global logistics and delivery operations at higher volumes, enabling cost efficiencies and improvements to our working capital position.

    Production Deliveries
    Model S/X 14,517 17,650
    Model 3 72,531 77,550
    Total 87,048 95,200

Orders generated during the quarter exceeded our deliveries, thus we are entering Q3 with an increase in our order backlog. We believe we are well positioned to continue growing total production and deliveries in Q3.

Customer vehicles in transit at the end of the quarter were over 7,400. Due to the order-to-VIN matching process we described in our Q1 2019 Shareholder Letter, which we extended to Model S and Model X in Q2 to improve process efficiency, this metric has become less relevant. As a result, we do not plan to disclose the customer vehicles in transit metric going forward.

This are great news for Tesla, they show that the company has credibility and that they can overcome production problems.

As long as Tesla's cars are the best in the market and demand is strong, I will believe in the future of this company.

Opinions on how badly Waste Management will be hit by Recycling restrictions?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 06:50 AM PDT

China is starting to reject the worlds garbage and now require extremely high quality materials to be deemed 'recyclable'. Does anyone have a guess as to how much this will impact WM and RSG?

I know SE Asia and some parts of Africa/South America are becoming the new dumping ground, but I don't know how that will impact WM/RSG bottom lines.

    Thoughts/Insight?

Canopy Growth Corp (CGC) vs Aurora Cannabis (ACB): Which is a better buy (and hold?)

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 08:09 AM PDT

#1 and #2 in the "pot stock" sector, but with Aurora's recent swing and miss on a deal with Coca-Cola, did that gimp them in the stocks game, or is another deal around the corner? Canopy already made a deal with Constellation Brands (owner of Corona beer) so that's a huge plus for them.

So, CGC vs ACB in the long run... which is your choice?

    What’s your opinion on Slack?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 08:28 AM PDT

$WORK started out nicely, not like BYND, main advantage is that Apple doesn't have access to Microsoft team (of course it can, but as a iOS developer we don't want to touch it by a mile) and it works great on all mobile platforms.

    NRZ a REIT to buy?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 04:29 PM PDT

I'm relatively new to investing in stocks and came across NRZ while researching some REIT's. This seems to have a nice dividend, but I'm assuming this means it comes with more risk? I also noticed it's a 100% buy rating on R which I have never seen before. Does anyone have any useful input that can help me with this decision? Thanks in advance.

New to options - if I'm 100% confident a stock will go down within a few days, would buying puts or selling calls be the better option?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 01:26 AM PDT

And what's the difference? Besides that you're paying for 100 shares of the stock as collateral for whoever's call you're selling?

Amazon is making grocery brands pay for losses on Prime Day promotions, as focus on profit grows

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 02:49 PM PDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/02/amazon-is-making-grocery-brands-pay-for-losses-on-prime-day-promos.html

Amazon is charging "additional funding" to certain grocery brands during this year's Prime Day if sales of their products result in a loss for Amazon, according to an email seen by CNBC.

Amazon said the change is intended to "fund the profitability gap" of such products, which Amazon purchases wholesale and sells on its own.

The policy change reflects a broader push by Amazon to squeeze profits out of a historically low-margin business.

Natural Gas Prices and EIA Report

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 10:53 AM PDT

    Hello,

Finally getting serious about trading. I am looking at Natural Gas ETFs and i am not understanding the price movement in relation to the numbers released via the EIA Storage Report.

    Report Date: June 27th , 2019 || Storage Change: + 98 bcf || BOIL Price Change on June 27th, 2019: + 4.62%

Would an increase in storage drive the price down, not up ? Am I missing something here ?

    Appreciate any input.

    Cheers

    WING (Wingstop) is Overpriced

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 02:34 PM PDT

Disclosing that I bought puts in this company....... multiple locations in my area but no one has ever talked about going to one, never seems to be busy. I've found their wings to be expensive and average at best, but their stock trades at 124 times earnings????????? Why do people think this company is the future? So many restaurants already have better wings for the same price in my area, and don't have ridiculous levels of debt. I don't see how this current stock price is justified. Their balance sheet does not look very good if you read it.

    Opinion on popular invest apps

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 01:22 AM PDT

First of all sry for my english and lack of knowledge in the matter, but i've looked for a website or app to invest in stocks for a while and i can't seem to find one that i can trust enough to put my money into it, im not from the US (i'm mexican) and the only ones operating in my country that i know of are eToro and plus 500.

So, i just wanted to ask the pros whats your opinion on those apps/websites, or if you have other suggestions for a foreigner that i could try out.

I've been following the markets and using virtual money for a while now and even tho im sure i still have a lot to learn, i would like to start investing real money.

So.. TLDR: Your opinion on eToro and plus500 or any other suggestions for a foreigner (mexican)

    Thx in advance.

    AMD reaching $34 or 35$?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 10:07 AM PDT

Does anyone think amd will reach 34 or 35 bucks eventually? Or is it prices in with the new video game consoles coming out. I'm holding amd cuz it's got a big future with all the new gen consoles using them so I think it will go up. But now Idk cuz the stock usually stays the same level and the hype might have been priced in already. I know the earnings will change the price but still idk.

    Advise thread

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 09:06 AM PDT

I'm putting aside $300 a paycheck to invest. I have a list of stocks that have shown steady growth over time. (I'll find a way to link the list if anyone is interested) the problem i'm running into is that all of the stock i have on my watchlist are at relative high points. So my question is weather I should be more opportunistic and wait until one or more of the stocks fall, OR if I should just pick a stock or two I believe in just make steady purchases regardless of the current price. Note I'm sitting on about 800+ right now and i can't decide where to put it.

Any advice would be appreciated, and I have access to a few screening tools with my job that help me find points to buy.

Did I miss out on the big dips? More in future?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 08:42 AM PDT

I'm new to the market. May was probably my biggest spending month in the market but I only managed to get in about 30% of my savings. The market suddenly rallied in June and it just wouldn't stop and then the US-China talks went well so it continues to soar.

Should I be bothered that I missed out on the opportunities in May? Can I expect more dips in the future? Also should I keep investing now at these all-time highs or wait?

Is AMT too big to invest in?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 07:20 PM PDT

I recently realized that one of my larger positions, AMT, is up to a market cap of roughly $90 Billion. I would imagine with this size would come more and more difficulty growing at a strong % rate. Do you think AMT is too big to invest more in for a REIT?

Why is the same stock a completely different price on separate exchanges?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:07 PM PDT

I was looking today at Ryanair, and noticed that on the NASDAQ it's trading for 65 USD while on the LSE it's trading for 10 Euro. I'd understand if the price difference was a couple of quid but they're not even remotely close. Could someone explain why that is?

Also, when the prices are so wildly different you get completely different ratios. On one exchange the stock could be overvalued while on another it could be undervalued. Could a stock then crash on one exchange while not crash on the other?

    MLNT big money maker?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2019 07:12 PM PDT

Anyone know much about this company? A few years ago it peaked over $1100. Now it's under $10. Sudden massive influx of volume and positive percent change following good news. I think it could have good potential for profits but I'm not sure. Thoughts?
