What are the advantages of buying the S&P 500 Index fund, in ETF form, over for example: UBS S&P 500 Index Fund, which grows the same way as a mutual fund?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:35 AM PDT

Long term you're going to make money either way, however, which one has more risk, and which one has a higher return?

I've put £2,500 ($3,045) into the UBS S&P 500 Index Fund, and I'm thinking maybe I should have bought the ETF instead?

XLI and XLB Test Resistance Levels Going into Fed Meeting

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 04:18 PM PDT

    SUMMARY:

    • I have been watching XLI and XLB since May.
    • The XLI Industrial Sector ETF and XLB Materials Sector ETF are testing their resistance levels from October and before.
    • If stocks are going to continue to make new highs, they need support from these sectors.
    • The Fed meeting tomorrow could be the catalyst that pushes them higher or lower.

Read the analysis and see the signals I am watching here: https://www.brtechnicals.com/technical-analysis/sector-industry-analysis/xli-and-xlb-test-resistance-levels-going-into-fed-meeting/

3k Deposited 5 days ago in Margin account. Is the first 3K spent 5% interest fee because its my cash?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:35 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm new to margin account. I deposited $3,000 USD - 5 days ago - ACH, cleared. My question is. If I were to buy and sell stocks that costs under 3k, would I have to pay 5% margin account fee? My broker offer free trades but 5% margin fee. So If I buy stocks this morning for 4,500, do I only pay 5% per day on 1,500? Why I am asking? Essentially I want to use the advantage of day trade but I don't want to pay fee since it is my money. I understand that the process of buying and selling stocks takes 3 days on cash account to settle. So that why I asked. I can pay fee no problem I just wonder if I use leverage and buy 4,500 of stocks with my 3k cash do I pay interest on 4,500 or 1,500 since 3k cash is mine. Thank you in advance.

Huawei sales soar 23% despite US restrictions on its business

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 02:15 AM PDT

    https://edition.cnn.com/2019/07/30/tech/huawei-earnings-first-half/index.html

Huawei is still growing despite a continued US campaign aimed at crimping its global reach.

Sales jumped to more than $58 billion in the first six months of this year, boosted by growth in the Chinese tech firm's smartphone business and an uptick in 5G network contracts, it said Tuesday.

The Shenzhen-based company said that revenue for the first half of 2019 soared by about 23% compared to the same period last year.

Huawei sells more telecommunications equipment than any other company in the world, and is a leading smartphone brand that competes with the likes of Samsung (SSNLF) and Apple (AAPL).

"Our core products have not been significantly affected," Liang told reporters in Shenzhen on Tuesday. The trade blacklist "has had some impact on our development, but the scope and extent of the impact is controllable," he added.

    why Beyond doesn't make profit

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:48 PM PDT

They use pea protein. and spefically some yellow peas grown by a single supplier. Pea is always more expensive than soy, and specialty pea makes it worse.

BYND is focused on being organic. They are anti-GMO. The reason soy is so cheap is largely because of GMO. This means their competitive, Impossible Burgers, which uses GMO soy, has a significant cost advantage. bynd cant exactly go gmo even if they change their mind later because who knows how many customers choose them because they're anti-gmo. bynd is trapped in a flawed ideology.

It's quite a joke they can't make a profit as a food production company. They don't have that much of overhead or capex. They essential just import pea proteins and other ingreidient, apply their own formulars at their factories, and produce the end product and sell them to the retailers. It's a low end tech. the fact their products are already very expensive compared to real meat, means if they want to expand the market share, they have the lower the price, or cut the cost of production. they are in a tricky position. but hey there are plenty of fools these days willing to throw money at unicorns so I don't think the management are too worried

    Futures easy to predict

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:59 AM PDT

The popular futures stocks are incredibly easy to trade and consistently win. Is it because they're so expensive they aren't popular with retail traders? If you had 100k you'd be a millionaire in a year or sooner. Just trading those same high volume stocks.

Plez offer advice for first time trader: Thoughts on long AMD BA PYPL DIS T V RUN ENPH?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:50 PM PDT

Not my current positions but looking to buy in and wait it out. (Young stupid first-time trader here so any insight is nice) Please point out flaws in reasoning or other stocks to keep tabs on. Time estimations are just estimations of stock growth vs when it'll level out and be better invested elsewhere

AMD- strong products, suspecting a decent/rising stock for at least next two years

BA- Ton of crap now, sadly doesn't seem like much changing abt company structure/outsourcing software, may rise/fall w Sept FDA, but rather stable due to lack of competitors. Model or two later with no incidents, rise. Long 3-5 yrs at least

PYPL- eBay sector is weak, but Xoom purchase and expansion elsewhere may turn out well.

DIS- phase 4, interesting TV-based distribution and subscriptions. Consistent money flow as long as content continues. Generally loyal fan base

T- 5G among other acquires recently. Unsure of length to maintain

V- bought into crypto recently, MA still leads in customers but given current price and if the company can keep growing— it has potential. 3-5+ yr long?

RUN- seems like decent leadership, battery and micro tech, if renewables are pushed for post-2020 like in CA (lol let's keep to minimal politics), it may get a boost.

ENPH- similar reasons to RUN. But given current outlook, analysts seem to favor ENPH over RUN
