Given incorrect dose of Allergy Shot, went into anaphylactic shock and health provider refuses to cover my expenses. What to do?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 06:12 AM PDT

I've been getting allergy shots for close to 2 years and have been at a maintenance dose for more than a year (receiving the same concentration) .

My regular visit usually goes like this: Nurse asks me preliminary questions, shows me vials of various concentrations (blue - 1:10000 concentration, yellow - 1:1000 concentration, red - 1:100 high concentration), verifies the vial to be administered, verifies my name and date of birth on the vial, then proceeds to administer the shot. I wait 30 minutes to ensure that no major allergic reactions occur. During my maintenance dose, I usually receive 1 mL of the yellow vial.

During this visit, my regular nurse I usually get my shots from was gone. The substitute nurse did not ask me the usual preliminary questions, did not verify my name/date of birth on the vial, had the syringes pre-loaded with the allergy shot serum and proceeded to administer the shot. I look at the counter where the vials are usually placed and all I saw were only the red vials, which is 10x the concentration I usually receive. I didn't think of anything since the other vials might've been placed somewhere else. So I begin the 30 minute waiting period.

After 20 minutes of waiting, I feel really flush, itchy, and hot. I begin to suspect that the red vial was administered to me. The nurse checks up on me, I tell her that I'm getting a reaction. She puts her hands to her face, sighs, then mumbles "Why me?". I tell her she might've administered the red vial to me since it was the only vial I saw on the counter and she denies that she had given that to me. At this point, I'm going into analphylactic shock. The nurse calls a doctor and another nurse, administer an epi-pen, and call the ambulance to send me to the ER. The allergic reaction subsets after 5 hours in the ER.

I filed a grievance with the clinic manager to see if I could get all my expenses covered however they couldn't conclude that they had given me the incorrect dose. This is close to $2000 in out of pocket expenses after insurance. I request my medical records and see that there is no clear evidence of what concentration was administered to me. I look at the ambulance EMT notes, and they noted I was given double the allergy shot dose.

3 weeks after my allergic reaction, I go in to get another allergy shot and my main nurse notifies me that it was charted I was given the 1mL of the red - 1:100 high concentration dose. This doesn't appear in my medical records for the day of my appointment, it doesn't even show what I was administered on that day. Now I want to take legal action against the clinic however I have no idea where to start, what to do, and how to approach the situation. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

(Texas) My mom is having CPS called on her in retaliation for calling CPS on someone else.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 07:56 AM PDT

A while ago, not sure how long ago, but very recently, my mom was told by a student (she's a teacher) that another students mother was beating her daughter and dragged her up the stairs by her hair. My mom reported it as she knew it, essentially saying "Hey, a student came to me with this information, maybe it should be looked into?"

Somehow, the mother found out my mom spoke up, and according to the (allegedly) abused daughter, her mother is planning to call CPS to report her for.... something. No idea what this lady plans to say.

Is there anything my mom should do? My sister and younger brother are perfectly happy and healthy, so I'm sure there wouldn't be any actual trouble as far as CPS is concerned beyond them wasting their time, but my mom is real worried, and I'd like a way to get her some piece of mind.

Also, just to be safe, this is in Texas.

Grandparents that have never met their grandchildren want custody access [Ontario, Canada]

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 07:41 AM PDT

I have been estranged from my parents for more than a decade. They have never met my children, nor did they have contact with me while I was pregnant. My children are now eight and five. I live in city A, my parents live in city b (city b is 4+ hours away on a good day).

Two weeks ago I received a non-registered letter from a lawyer in city b saying they had been retained by my parents to seek custody access to my children and are recommending mediation in city b before proceeding to family court.

I cut my family off as there was abuse and alcoholism growing up, that abuse continued into adulthood. Sometimes the abuse was physical, the most damaging was psychological. There was also sexual grooming behaviors, the extent of which I can't bring myself to fully explore as an adult, despite the urging of my psychologist (that's a story for another day).

Considering how I grew up I have been adamant that my children have adults in their lives that are healthy, positive and are consistently there for them. None of these factors would be fulfilled by having contact with their maternal grandparents. Most importantly I am terrified that my children will be harmed physically, emotionally or sexually through contact with my parents. I am also concerned that my parents would tell them things about me that aren't true, damaging my children's relationship with me.

Throughout the years my parents have occasionally reached out, but the calls and letters have been hostile and demanding. Several years ago I considered allowing my mother alone to visit my children. My mother is an enabler and in large part a victim of my father (she does whatever he says, without question). But at her core I know it hurts her not to know her grandchildren.

I told her that we needed to establish trust between the two of us before she could see the kids and once that trust was established we would have strict terms (that she come alone, it be in our house, to not refer to herself or my dad by certain pet names). She refused saying we were being controlling, and the psychological abuse began again. So I cut off contact again.

Now this letter demanding access or else they're taking us to court.

My husband and I are married, have a healthy relationship and are on the same page on this. My kids have a positive and ongoing relationship with my in-laws and my husband's family.

Can we be forced to hand our children over to my parents for visitation?

Probably the most interesting or scariest legal email to take my domain yet

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 08:02 AM PDT

I was encouraged to post this here from /r/sysadmin.

    ---

I'm going to try to be entirely anonymous in all of this, so bear with me:

Back in the mid-to-late '90s, for reasons I will skip for now, I purchased a .com domain name along the lines of "drugstore.com" or, say, "logcabin.com." It is two dictionary-based words that make up a very common term used everywhere in the English-speaking world. If you google-fu the term, it comes up in merriam-webster.com as an example under "1 a; [the definition] // [my domain term]."

The reasons I bought the domain fizzled-out, but I still owned it, for 100 years.

In the 20+ years I've owned it, I've received countless offers to buy it. Plenty of other unpurchased domains are active right now using the same term, including .net, .org, etc. But people want .com. I've had legit offers that I almost took, but did not, good offers. I've had plenty of people offering me $100, and I always dialogue with them. I've seen plenty, plenty of scams. One earlier this year took me to the threshold of an escrow company. I hired a lawyer to do things right. In the end, another scam....

So, I get up this morning and see an email that seems pretty legit. For sake of argument, let's say it is _not_ a scam (if I had to say, it is not a scam; but trust me when I say scams are old-hat to me). What gets me about this email/(scare-me-into-just-handing-it-over message), is that they are saying they trademarked the term/phrase/word in question. I want to add here that I did contact NWS today on this, and they pointed out: ".net, .org are fully available for them to buy, but they are coming at you over the .com?"

I have this domain attached to a blog, that I've been running for a few years now.

Here is their letter. For sake of anonymity, I will use "logcabin.com" for the domain name (I apologize to the owners of logcabin.com, if that's a thing; I've not at all googled to find out).

What gets me about this one, is that every single scam always come with a dollar figure. These guys seem to legitimately think/feel/know that I have their property. I am happy to entertain money offers. Of course, I am not willing to just hand over my domain.

    Questions:

    -Is this a scam?

-If not a scam, do they actually have a case?

-If not a scam, and they have a case, is it 100% solid going their way? If not 100% solid, why on earth are they paying lawyers? Why not just make me an offer?

Would those with more experience with this type of thing please chime in.

[MI] I hired a property manager to help lease my condo. Her incompetence cost me thousands in fines. What are my options?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 04:22 AM PDT

Located in Michigan. I'll try to keep this as short as possible because the whole thing was a disaster from the start.

In 2016 I was received a job offer in California and I didn't want to immediately sell my condo in Michigan in case that didn't end up working out so I hired a property manager to rent it out.

I had been having issues with her from nearly the beginning (mostly me having to deal with the tenant a lot more than I thought I was going to be considering I was paying for her property management services.) but nothing of this level until in January.

In mid 2018 I was notified by the tenant that there was some water leakage/pooling at the bottom of the front door when it would rain. I had instructed my property manager to take care of this and set up the repair. PM said she had taken a few contractors to look at the issue and their opinion was that the gutter above the door wasn't properly set against the face of the building and was causing a gap and essentially funneling water down my front door every time it would rain. PM stated that she would get in contact with the home owners association for them to repair the gutter before getting the door replaced because the same thing would just happen again.

Fast forward to January 2019, the issue with the door is still not fixed and my rental certification is expiring in mid Feb and I need a city inspection to renew that certification. I instruct the property manager to take care of the door and take care of the inspection, as I am in California and this is what I hired her for - to deal with these issues for me.

February 2019 I am notified by the HOA that my rental certification has lapsed and I have been given a violation for the door issue. When I contacted PM about why the rental certification lapsed she stated that she had not set up the city inspection, with this direct quote as a reason. As you can see, I had already paid her for the inspection to be done.

Also, I believe we withheld the funds for the city inspection from Jan and Feb P&L but I have not ordered the inspection as of yet, so it has lapsed. CITY typically doesn't fine right away, but until we get this door problem under control, I'd like to let it sit as long as possible. Once the report is done, there are only so many days you get to make the corrections. I'd rather not bring trouble if we're not going to get in any, if that makes sense. If you'd like me to order the inspection regardless, I will do so, but in my professional opinion, maybe waiting for CITY to call us would be a little less messy and not draw more attention.

I basically told her that she was the professional and this is why I hired her, so please resolve this situation how you see fit. I was fined by the HOA $410 for this issue and unbeknownst to me, the PM had been notified that I would start receiving late fees on this as well as it being turned over to the HOA's lawyer if this was not resolved within the time frame. Long story short, the property manager never resolved this issue. I had to fly home from California in mid May to get the door repairs taken care of as well as order the city inspection on my own and get that all taken care of, which I did. Also in May, I had to go to court with the HOA/city over the lapsed rental certification, fines, and legal fees. I ended up having to pay nearly $1500 in fines and legal fees on top of what it cost me to take off work and fly home in order to deal with this situation that the PM put me in.

In early June, I had told the property manager that I had wanted to terminate her management contract and I wanted a refund for the last 6 months of management fees because I felt that she had not done her job which was evident by me being sued by my HOA and the city. She had declined refunding me for this, but offered to work for free until the expiration of our original contract on 7/31. I did not accept this offer.

After terminating the contract, I had received a long email from the property manager trying to explain away her incompetence. The email is honestly complete unprofessional insanity, including information about her having a hysterectomy and other things that I quite frankly don't care about in an attempt to guilt me in to not taking action. This is a SMALL excerpt from the email

And no, I shouldn't ask that of you ... it's probably unethical and could probably get my license suspended if not taken for good ... but again, I'm trusting you ... you can take it, digest it, understand that even though what I thought to be my best advice to save you time, money and reputation ended up blowing up in my face and costing me a client I thought I had a great professional and personal relationship with maybe is enough and I don't also need to lose my only source of income, the business that I depend on, even though I barely make any money, I have a chance for growth ... and if nothing else, I'll take a lesson from this and act accordingly next time ... you can also run around town and tell everyone you meet that I'm a lying, lazy, moron who not only can't run a business and shouldn't manage houses because she can't even manage getting divorced without needing to go to therapy and get on medication to keep sane ... PS she's a quack who's riddled with anxiety, can't have babies, married a guy she'd known 7 months, and spends too much time emailing clients who don't want to listen to her, because she's that pathetic ... you can choose, MY NAME... you can be the guy who helps me learn, takes my help that I've offered after the contract's terminated, realize that not everyone's perfect and that maybe, just maybe, because of this another client won't ever go through this ... oh, and that we all have our stuff, and you'll see what I really gave to this business, my clients, my rentals, my work, my reputation .... and really know that sometimes burn outs happen when people try to be too much and do too much while dealing with more than anyone should ever manage ...

Or you can be the guy that goes out of her way to teach me a lesson and put me in my place. If you're as mad at me as you come off to be, and not taking out other emotions on me because I happen to be here at the perfect time as you struggle with everything else, I wouldn't blame you ... I might be that guy if I really made you as mad as you appear. Take my business, my license, tell the world that I screwed up and don't deserve to have my job, own my business or earn my living ... I won't fault you, I won't even be upset ... I'd just ask for a headsup so before the state of Michigan suspends my license out of nowhere, I'd have a chance to at least find another job so my household isn't responsible for my actions.

What are my options here? I've had to spend thousands in fees and airfare to deal with issues that I had paid this property manager thousands to take care of and do her job, and I feel mislead and quite frankly scammed by her incompetence. I have her license number and can confirm that she is licensed in Michigan for real estate. I tried to keep this as short as possible, but if there is any additional information that I can give that would help get a better picture, please let me know! Thank you

[VA] Does my landlord have no responsibility because they call it a "license" instead of a "lease"?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 05:41 AM PDT

I'm curious if my landlord is skirting around legal requirements by calling it a "license" instead of a "lease". I'm living in university housing at a school in Virginia that I was not able to inspect before moving in. It has mold and mildew issues that a lessor would be required to disclose under Virginia law. Is the university free and clear because it calls the arrangement a "license"? It seems to me the agreement is a residential lease no matter what they want to call it. In addition, if it's a license, wouldn't either party be free to break it at any time?

I received A severance offer after I resigned my job due to harassment. To get it I have to sign away my rights to sue the company- what should I do??

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 02:40 AM PDT

CHICAGO: I've reported it to HR and managers over the last year and nothing was done. There were multiple instances I reported over the last year. I have documentation of the harassing behavior and gaslighting. An investigation was only launched after I resigned . The investigation did not prove physical intimidation but find "inappropriate work behavior". The company acknowledged the situation lead to a hardship on my end. They want to ease the transition and they offered me 4 weeks severance. If I take it I have to waive my right to sue the company. I was surprised by the offer- I thought it was unusual to offer someone who resigns a severance. This makes me feel like the issue is bigger and this severance is "hush money". I have 7 days to respond to the offer...What should I do?? Please help!

Edit: I've reached out to an employee rights attorney who believes I have a case. I have 3 options 1.) take the offer 2.) send a letter offering to have more negotiations on the severance or we will file an EEOC claim. In doing so I forfeit the original offer. So they could say no we won't negotiate and I won't get anything. But then we file a claim. 3.) decline the offer entirely and file a claim

My landlord is kicking us out with 30 days notice sent over text. Is this legal? (Idaho)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 07:38 AM PDT

So I was just told yesterday (07/30) that we would need to be out by September 1st for repairs that need to be made before they sell their house. (not any damages that we caused, things like the roof) They texted me a picture of the notice as they live out of state, and told me they were mailing that document to me.

I have spoken with some people and they have said that in Idaho, you must receive 30 days notice in writing, prior to the 1st day of the month. Meaning I need to get that piece of mail today. And if not, you should be allowed an extra 30 days as you were not adequately notified.

Can anyone give me any information about how factual that is?

(CO) Boss withholding paycheck due to “technical issues”

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 11:43 AM PDT

My boss is sometimes forgetful and will forget to print my check/paystub unless I remind her. Once I remind her, she usually prints it off immediately.

Our most recent payday was Friday 7/26. She was not in the office and had not printed my check prior to leaving. She also did not returned before my shift was over. At the time I was okay and could hold off until Monday.

When I arrived back to work on Monday, my check had still not been printed. However, all direct deposit employees and the other employee who demands paper checks (payroll has been wrong in the past and we like to ensure we're paid properly) were all paid on Friday.

I asked my boss if she could print off my check and paystub for me, but she said there were technical issues with Quickbooks. She told me the same thing when I arrived to work on Tuesday.

It is now Wednesday and she is still not in the office and I don't have my latest check. My rent is due tomorrow, which I can cover. However, I will not have extra money until my check clears with my bank. I do have savings, but would prefer not to dip into it if I don't absolutely have to.

Is there anything I can do? I've considered telling her I will not work until I receive my check. Can she fire me for this?

Officer claims that digital proof of insurance is "not enough" and threatens $1,000 fine

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 10:07 AM PDT

Northwest Georgia, context is my wife and i recently got a new car and put insurance on it yesterday, progressive sent us digital proof, which included only the Vehicle Identification Number and the type of coverage we have. The officer who pulled us over said that he couldnt properly identify the car with the.VIN, and that we need a hard copy of our proof of insurance. Whats the point of the digital proof?? The officer was respectful, however, he told my wife that he was supposed to tow our car in and write us a $1,000 citation and tow our car. Luckily he did not, but it begs the question; Is this legal?

Help!! My sister is screwing over my parents BIG TIME.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 10:45 AM PDT

My older sister went to a private pharmacy school and racked up over 100K of student loans. My parents bring the kind ( but foolish) souls they are decided to help her out and consolidated her student loans with their mortgage to lower her interest rate ( I tried to stop them but they wouldn't listen). The plan was for her to pay them 2K a month which is far less than what would've been her loan payment. However, she's stopped paying them and my mom, who is the only one that works, is now working double shifts to cover her loan payment. My parents were due to be done paying their mortgage next year but now because of my sister, they will be having to pay for years to come. My parents are older and close to retirement age. They both have health problems and my POS sister clearly doesn't care about them. My other siblings and I are worried, is there anything that can be done from a legal standpoint to force my sister to pay? She's a pharmacist, she's more than capable of paying.

    Sincerely, worried child from Texas

My sister is trying to move away from her alcoholic and abusive husband. He said he would have her arrested if she did.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 05:04 AM PDT

I'm looking for legal advice for my sister. This is what she wants to know:

My husband is in the military and we've been living in Kansas. He has been an alcoholic for years (it has steadily gotten worse) and has been emotionally and verbally abusive. I want to move back home to New York with our two children where my family lives. I haven't filed for anything yet (eg, separation, custody, divorce, etc.), and I don't think he has, either. I believe Kansas has jurisdiction since we've been living there for more than 6 months. My husband threatened that if I move back to New York he would have me arrested for kidnapping. I would like to know whether my husband can prevent me from relocating from Kansas to NY with our two children.

Previous owners haven’t moved stuff out of barn

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 05:46 AM PDT

    State: Michigan

My wife and I bought a house July of 2018, we had a verbal agreement with the previous owners ( who are distant relatives of my wife ) that they would have all of their stuff moved out of the barn before summer started. We are on a 10 year land contract, and we are now moving into August and they haven't even attempted to move anything out. They stopped by a month ago and said they don't know what to do. I called them a week ago to talk about something non related and they didn't answer or return my phone call after I left a voicemail.

What are my options? They're family so I want to be nice, but we're past the point of being nice IMO. It's just ridiculous at this point.

FBI called and emailed to meetup

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 08:07 AM PDT

    Indiana, USA

Edit: This is actually about someone I know. That person answered one of their calls earlier and the agent just straight up said they were under investigation and wanted to clarify things.

FBI called several times, and emailed twice to meetup. I have done nothing wrong and don't want to make it seem like I have anything to hide. Do I have to respond to them? Every online tip or piece of advice says to not say anything at all. I'm thinking if I don't respond they'll be coming to my house to ask questions. At this point, if I ignore them, will they keep bothering me? Will they be getting a warrant to search my house then? I just feel like talking in person does me no good. Thanks

Friend dented car door, refusing to pay or give me insurance. (Kansas military)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 12:58 PM PDT

Hi, I'm a bit flustered as my dream car was dented today. I work on fort riley and my NCO (sergeant, he's above me), was waiting by my car. He said that the wind caught hit door and pulled it into my car. At first glance there's a 1 inch dent on the fender, no paint correction is needed. He said he'd pay for it and we agreed to get quotes and go from there. I got some quotes and he keeps telling me he can fix it himself, but upon further inspection the car door moved my fender inward and it is now bowed out slightly. I think he should be held accountable for what he did, and I've never had to do anything like this before. He claimed that kansas has a no fault law in parking lots. And told me I'd have to pay or let him fix it. My two problems are 1.) I read into it and from my understanding that's only if both vehicles are moving, since my vehicle was legally parked I believe it to be considered negligence. 2.) we were on a military base and we abide by federal law. He then tried to guilt me by saying things like "I don't have the money" "you're taking food out of my kids mouths", etc. I don't feel comfortable with him fixing it, and I'd like him or his insurance (which he can't give me info for) to pay for it properly. How do I go about this?

Building deemed uninhabitable due to rats

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 09:21 AM PDT

I'm hoping maybe someone could give me some advice. A couple of weeks ago I started hearing some noises under my stove. Assuming it was mice, I put out a few traps but didn't catch anything. Tuesday my apartment was suddenly infested with rats. I emailed my property management company, grabbed a few things, and headed to my sisters. Wednesday they said that they were working on getting pest control in and waiting for an appointment. I expressed that I do not feel safe in the apartment and asked what it would take to break the lease. They explained the terms to me, saying it is IF the landlord grants me permission to break the lease. They changed the terms slightly in a later email, adding that the utilities would be put under my name, but they are currently included in my rent.

Friday I went on an app called SeeClickFix, where people report code violations around the city. Low and behold my building is already on there. Someone reported it saying "The basement grates of (my building) is infested with rats. You can walk by here almost any time of the day and see 10-20 rats jumping in and out of the grates." I commented on the post saying, "I live in the garden level and my apartment has become infested with rats as well. I have reported it to my property management company and they have been telling me they have contacted an exterminator and are 'waiting for an appointment.' It is currently uninhabitable. They had an inspector meet me there that afternoon and he deemed the entire building to be unfit for occupancy until the issue is resolved. The next inspection will be 8/5.

They emailed me back Monday and are basically accusing me of making the first report of the code violation (which I didn't but have a right to do anyway). They also included a screencap of my comment on the app and said, "the attached photo provides more information on the issue as well." I had already told them that I made the comment and had DOB coming to inspect the building. The email also laid out the terms for breaking my lease, which they had already done in a previous email, however this time they added some terms. I have to give 60 days written notice and pay rent for those 2 months, plus a month of rent if the apartment isn't filled in those months, forfeit my deposit, pay a $250 filing fee, and have the utilities switched to my name until a new tenant is found (they're currently included in my rent). They said if I don't email them by midnight on 7/31, the offer will be rescinded and the terms may change. I feel as though adding the utilities and the time limit is retaliation for reporting them.

I've reached out to a tenant association but they said it could take a while to get a response because they have to go in the order calls are received. I've also reached out to a lawyer but haven't heard back yet. It seems unfair for the property management company to say I have to make a decision by tomorrow, almost as if they don't want me to have time to seek legal representation, or for them to surpass the 8/5 deadline they have to remediate all of the citations. I don't think I should have to pay anything. I'm willing to give up my security deposit just to be over with this, but why should I be paying rent on an apartment that I can't legally reside in at this time. They also can't be making every effort to find a new tenant as they are required to by law if the building is uninhabitable. They are attempting to remedy the rat situation, so I'm not sure if I have a case. I don't want to threaten to take them to court if I'm not sure I'll win. I really just want to hear back from the tenant association before I reply to them so I know exactly what to say and what not to say.

I haven't slept more than a few hours in a week and just need some answers and reassurance. What should I say in my response? Do I have a case against them?

    TIA

    Edit: I live in NY.

My [18M] ex gfs [18F] parents are threatening to label as a sex offender for sleeping with her

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 09:59 AM PDT

Located in California. A few months ago, I started having sex with my then girlfriend when I was 18 (hs senior with birthday in March) and she was 17 (hs senior with birthday in May). We broke up a few weeks ago. The breakup was pretty respectful (broke up because colleges are far away) so I didn't think much of it. Recently her parents found out and are really pissed that we had sex (they're really religious). They are threatening to press charges of statutory rape against me.

I'm panicking right now. I worked so hard in high school to get into an Ivy League college and now it all has the potential to be undone. California has no Romeo and Juliet laws, so I fear that the consensual sex I had with someone a month and a half younger than me could get me branded as a pedophile for the rest of my life.

    What can I do/am I fucked

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 05:59 AM PDT

So recently I placed my 2 week notice and yesterday was my final day I go and ask my hr rep how will my final pay out be handled she says it will be on your final check and direct deposited. Past employees have been paid out on the spot, why am I not getting paid out? Is it not Ca law that if I give my two weeks I should be paid out immediately?

Can I be personally sued for a non-ADA compliant teacher website?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 07:13 AM PDT

I am a high school teacher working for a pubic school in South Carolina, USA. I am officially employed by the district I work in as per my contract. My principal sent out a memo saying that we (the teachers) can be sued and fined $1000 for our websites if they are not ADA compliant. Of course, I plan to be ADA compliant, but I'm no expert. Can I be personally sued? Or would the district be sued?

Former friend has been using my card details for Uber rides for a year without me knowing, now refusing to pay me back

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 09:04 AM PDT

[London, UK] The person got hold of my details on their phone when I needed a ride home a long time ago, little did I know that the details are saved indefinitely unless they delete it manually themselves. I had some lost debit cards over the months, as such, I thought cancelling them would render them useless across all services... apparently not.

The person has been using Uber (Who are refusing to do anything about it since I know the person in question) to take pretty expensive trips frequently for nearly a year. When I contacted the person they acknowledged the trips but now I'm being ghosted when asking for the total cost of all those trips back.

What do I need to do? I'm already struggling financially as it is and I was just shocked that someone that's better off than me has been doing something like this.

    Respond to demand letter?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 02:28 PM PDT

This is in Rhode Island for the bot. I received a demand letter yesterday with some random threats about taking me to court, is there any value to responding? My neighbor apparently thinks I stole some rocks, but it never happened, I think they are going senile. Is it ever really worth it to respond to a demand letter?

My mom is withholding my savings from me

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 11:47 AM PDT

I'm 20 years old and still living with my parents, since G.I. Bill covers only instate tuition

I have G.I. Bill that covers 100% of my schooling up until a bachelors degree. We also get $1800 a month from the government, as funded by the G.I. Bill.

My father, before he seized contact with me (almost 3 years) gave me his G.I. Bill so that I could go to college. I'd be the first one in the family. He also said that he would give it to us if he could stop paying child support. My mother and I agreed. I haven't spoken to him since and have no idea where he is.

My mom gave herself $800-$900 of the G.I. Bill money each month so that she can still support me in the house. I'm okay with that. I agreed to that when I was 17, but even now at 20, I still will let her have that money each month. We have no child support from my unlocatable father now anyway.

She's put the rest of the monthly money into my savings. Since then, she's used that money in my savings to pay for insurance, car repairs, etc, that has to do with me. Out of that savings, I get $120 a month to use on gas, extra food I want, and small things. I get an allowance at 20.

Problem is, I have never been able to see the money in the account or touch it at all. She says it's a savings account and she will give it to me when I move out and look for an apartment or get married. I have no idea how much is supposedly in the account but I think it might be $7,000. I wanted a laptop for school and wanted to use some of my savings to get one, about $700. My mother said no and that my budget is $300. It's my account and she isn't letting me see how much is in it or touch it for when I want to use it.

I know I sound like a literal woman-child but it irks me that at 20, I still get $120 a month and that I can't see or have access to the money in savings. My boyfriend is having to pay for my gas since I'm going to be driving more to a school farther away (transferring from a community college to a university) and I simply don't have enough money now to eat when I'm out or buy supplies for school.

I want to see if there's any way to gain access to the account. It's tearing me up and I have no idea how much she puts in or if she's being truthful to putting in money to the account.

What qualifies as self defence in a domestic violence situation?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2019 01:09 PM PDT

Backstory: I am living with my boyfriend who has slowly been turning very abusive over the past few months. he is a chronic cheater, a textbook narcissist, and uses physical force to get his way, including sex. if i upset him, he slaps, pinches, and chokes. i can't leave him immediately for a lot of reasons, but i am beginning to actually fear for my safety. last night, he choked me until i had a seizure, and i am now having vision problems in one eye from it. sometimes, he talks about wanting to kill me. i can't leave him yet, but in the meantime, what can i do? if he tries to assault me, threaten to kill me, or hurt me again, how far am i able to retaliate without legal repercussions?
