I was pulled over and the cop told me to pay him in cash. Posted: 29 Jul 2019 08:02 AM PDT Friday I was driving through a small town. The speed limit was 55. It quickly changes to 45 and maybe 100 yards later drops to 35. I had my cruise control set to 55. I missed the 45 sign but as I was approaching the 30 I started to brake quickly. There was a cop hidden just pass the 30 sign. I was going 30 by the time I passed the sign. The cop pulls me over and I got everything ready. The cop asked if i know why he pulled me over and I said I know I was going 50 but I'm sure I was below 30 when I crossed the sign. I remark that that's a real fast speed drop from 55 to 35 with no warning. He says there is a 45 sign a little before the 35 so you start lowering your speed. And says he has me doing 51 in a 45. He states that's a 4 point ticket with a 235 fine. If I can pay it now he could change it to a non moving fine with no points and i won't have to go to court. I ask how can I pay it now and he says cash. I didn't have that much cash on me. He says well I'll change the fee to 185 but you will have to come to court. I explained that I am actually lost that i plugged the wrong city in my gps and I just corrected it and don't even know where I am. But i am a couple hours away from my house. I asked if I could just send a check to pay the ticket. He said no I had to appear in person or give him cash. When he went back to his car my wife said she had 80 in cash on her and I had 110. So we decided to see if he would take the 185 in cash. I figured I was going to have to pay the 185 either way. He accepts the cash and prints a ticket saying failure to show registration. On the ticket it shows bond deposit of 185 and ticket penalty of 185. I have always been told by police I can't pay a ticket on the street I have to mail it in or go to court. Should I be concerned about the ticket? He didn't ask me to sign anything he just printed a ticket on a white sheet of paper. I have haven't received a ticket in a long time but in the past they were in a ticket book and you had to sign the blue form. If i could get advise on wether or not what he did was illegal and if it is how do you go about reporting it? Edit to say this took place in South Carolina [link] [comments] |
My School is demanding for a copy of every students car key. (GA) Posted: 28 Jul 2019 04:03 PM PDT I found this out about two hours ago. My High school posted the rule book along with the normal info for the school year. In the rule book section about driving to school, it states in bold letter; ALL STUDENTS WHO DRIVE TO SCHOOL USING A PERSONAL VEHICLE MUST GIVE THE SCHOOL A COPY OF THE KEY OR KEY FOB. After I read this I thought it was a misprint or a mistake. So I called the principal and school board, they both said that it was real and if you park on school property you must follow that rule. About 30 minutes later I checked the school website and others were complaining on the forums about it. They went on to post their reason, they want to be able to do random searches or drug sweeps. I personally find this to be a invasion of privacy. what can I do to stop this? Edit: Campus is the only place around to park at without paying $100 for a parking pass. [link] [comments] |
How to get child back from someone who has no legal custody of her? Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:42 AM PDT Hello MY ex husband and I have 50/50 custody of our toddler. Our parenting plan approved by the court states we switch custody every Saturday. This past Saturday he did not bring her to me as we agreed on. Instead he gave her to his grandmother, who has no legal custody. It is my week for custody, and this woman has my child and is purposefully keeping my child away from me. Again, she has zero legal custody and called my child's daycare saying she will no longer be attending because she does not want me to pick up my child from daycare. How can I get my child back asap? Posted: 29 Jul 2019 07:51 AM PDT So just as the title says I previously signed my disabled mother's housing agreement as a "legal representative" because I was her Power of Attorney. Reading over the original contract, there is no provision for the "legal representative" paying when the resident fails to and nothing that would equate the legal representative to a "guarantor" or any kind of language like that. As far as I can tell, their case is being made on the basis of some ambiguity surrounding the term "legal representative". As of about a week ago I recieved a certified letter notifying me of an upcoming trial in PA (I live in VA) and that I was named as a co-defendant along with my mother. The nursing home is suing us over the $998 bill (for incidentals I think? They recieved her entire Social Security check while they were there and she was covered under medicaid). I've been her POA since I was 18 and I thought I had taken steps to ensure this kind of thing wouldnt happen - in hindsight of course I never should have signed without consulting a lawyer but that's another story. She left that facility about a year ago for a nicer one if it matters. Honestly I'd love to fight it but I wanted to see if I could get any feedback as to what my chances were. I'm applying to law school soon and I really want to avoid any judgement coming up on a character and fitness eval. so I may just settle. Nevermind what any hit to my credit has probably done to my chances at loans. [link] [comments] |
Update on my sister's crazy ex playing ding dong ditch [CA, USA] Posted: 29 Jul 2019 12:38 AM PDT This literally happened a couple hours ago so emotions might be running high. I posted about a week or so ago that my sister's ex was ringing our doorbell and bothering us despite her having a restraining order. The cops have not been able to arrest him. He sporadically came to our house but not with any regularity. But he came this night and well, he finally went off the deep end. Order of events in numbered format:
And I think that's about the gist of it. Very unfortunate timing this happened today because the police force was extremely spread thin in the Bay Area today because of the shooting in Gilroy so they took quite a while to appear. So some questions I have lingering:

Posted: 29 Jul 2019 08:05 AM PDT This happened yesterday in the state of Maine, in the U.S. My wife, 6 year old child and I drove about a half hour away after getting all 4 tires replaced on our mini van. During the drive it became apparent that the brakes were not working properly and we became concerned. We then drove for ice cream a few miles away with my brother and his kids in another vehicle leading the way. After we ate our ice cream we departed to drive back home and realized that the breaks were really bad so we stopped and checked the brake fluid and it was empty. I went with my brother to buy some brake fluid and filled it back up and tested the brakes again. They seemed to be working better so we drove off again. Right after leaving, thinking the brakes were fine because they seemed ok (at a low speed at least) we couldn't stop at the next stop sign we came to and luckily there was no traffic coming through the intersection because we had no brakes at all at that point. We pulled over at a safe place and discovered the brake fluid was almost empty again and checked for a leak. Sure enough there was a leak right behind the back passenger side tire. It seems pretty obvious that the tire place severed the line by accident while replacing the tires. My whole family could have died and/or hurt other people because of this. What should I do about it?(edited to add location) [link] [comments] |
I’ve been asked to be a witness for a divorce hearing but have concerns of retaliation. Posted: 29 Jul 2019 06:40 AM PDT Im in New Mexico, and my neighbor who's husband has harassed me in the past and have had a restraining order placed on him is divorcing him and has asked me to testify against him. She kicked him out and placed a restraining order on him, but I'm worried that once he hears my testimony he may try to retaliate against me - he's violent, a liar, and obviously a cheat. She wants me to tell the court what I've seen him do because he would only abuse his kids and animals, have his cheat partners come over, and harass me when she was at work- which was sometimes from 6am to 9 pm every day. He never worked - job or at home for at least the 5 years I've lived here. Can I ask her attorney to do something about my concerns? Like another restraining order or something? I'd like to testify because he's the worst excuse for a human being I've ever met and would rather not have to worry about him ever again being anywhere near me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2019 05:33 AM PDT Hey just wanted some input on a situation that happened this morning with my girlfriend. We live in Ontario Canada. So I drop my girlfriend off at a local coffee shop every morning on the way to work, she typically spends about an hour there before needing to go to her work which is in the same parking lot. This morning a man who is there most days came to talk to her, put his hand on her shoulder, touched her hair and then her ear/tried to put his finger in her ear? She messaged me right away that she didn't want to go to that coffee shop anymore, understandably so but I asked her to at least talk to the manager/owner if possible. They were busy and she had to leave for work but she gave me a description so that tonight I can talk to them while I wait for her to be done work. She then spoke to one of her coworkers who use to go to the coffee shop with her occasionally who now just sits in her vehicle waiting for work to start and she said she stopped going for the same reason. I guess my question is there anything else to do after that? obviously it kind of depends on how the owner/manager react but is this something that should be reported to the police? Thank you in advance [link] [comments] |
Landscaper did work on my property without my consent, and is now billing me -- what do I do? Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:03 AM PDT I'm not sure what is the best sub for this. Early July, I meet with a landscaper to get a bid on some work. He was earnest and wanted the job. I asked him to email me a quote/bid. He sent it over, and said something to the effect of "please confirm this is what you want, and we can try to schedule you for x day." I never responded. His bid was outrageously high. We decided to do the work ourselves. I have photo evidence of us doing the labor. It took 3 adults approximately 16-20 hours, but the work looked great at the end. All that was left to do was edging before we planted our new garden. Fast forward to Friday: I received a bill from the landscaper. I called immediately asked why he sent a bill. He informed me he "did the work". This is the craziest thing I've ever heard. He said he came to my house, did the landscaping, and he submitted an invoice (the same amount as the quote provided despite ALL THE WORK being done -- whatever). Again: I never responded to his bid. I never gave any confirmation that I wanted to work with him -- verbal or written. I was very that clear my initial meeting with him was only for a bid. As a matter of fact, I went out of the way to tell him I didn't want to waste his time to meet in-person for a quote -- I would happily send photos over of the current landscaping and images of what it had looked like before (as a template of what we wanted to achieve). He emphatically stated he could only do quotes in-person, they were free, and it wasn't a waste of time. Friday afternoon: I went home to find that he did in fact come to my house, but only put down beauty-bark on my garden. He did not edge or weed before he threw down bark (which now complicates my plans for my garden-- but that's besides the point), and he probably did about 2-hours worth of labor. I want to file a police report. But I don't even know what for. I feel extorted, but I'm not sure that's the right word. I also feel scared that he's going to come after me for this money that I do not owe him. I sent him a follow-up email, telling him that we never had an agreement. I never responded to his bid. And he trespassed on my property and did damage to my property without my consent. I have not heard back. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
Doctor ran unwanted pregnancy test-now I’m responsible to pay? (VA) Posted: 29 Jul 2019 07:53 AM PDT I went to an urgent care clinic last month because I was sick. They took my blood and ran the nurse did a rundown of my symptoms, and took my temperature and stuff. , When the dr came to talk to me she said my white blood count was low, but the pregnancy test came back negative, so its some sort of bacteria. This is the first thing I'm hearing about a pregnancy test. The nurse didn't ask me if I was or could be pregnant. If they had asked me I would have told them no-I'm not sexually active, if they had mentioned ahead of time they were doing a precautionary test I would have told them that. Now I received my bill and the pregnancy screening alone is nearly $100.-it's far and above the most expensive item, and it was totally unnecessary and not requested. Thankfully I have insurance, but I'm not sure if the insurance is covering that portion, or if that's part of what I have to pay after deductions. I've never had a doctor run a pregnancy screening before, despite being in this scenario (adult woman on a sick visit). Is this normal? Could I have refused, even though they never even brought it up? Is it even worth it to dispute it over $100? I'm just not sure what my options are in this situation. EDIT: This got more traction than I expected, so I'd like to clarify some things people tend to keep referring back to in comments:
I really appreciate everyone's input! As many have said, I'm also surprised I've never been given a pregnancy test before. Until now I'd always assumed it was included in the base blood test, so I'd had it done but it wasn't itemized out. From now on if I'm sick I will make sure to ask what tests they plan on running ahead of time. But let me whine for a minute and say that paying $100 just because I have a viable uterus is a minor expense, but it's still sucks. [link] [comments] |
Ex will not move out or my house, need advice (GA) Posted: 29 Jul 2019 08:23 AM PDT Back last year I bought my first house and asked my girlfriend to move in with me. The house is in my name, I have the mortgage, and all utilities are in my name. When she moved in, we agreed that she would pay me a set amount every month which would go towards the utilities and some of the mortgage. We did not put anything in writing. We split up in June, and I told her she had until the end of July to move out. I moved into the guest room, and I have offered financial assistance to get her into an apartment or help her move home to live with her parents. It has been 4 weeks and she has not found a place or made any effort to pack or even attempt to move out. She has repeatedly told me that she is looking every day but cannot find anything within her price range or in a safe area that she feels like she could move. She insists that she cannot move in with any friends, and that moving home to move in with her parents isn't an option. Her parents, meanwhile, have told me that they want her to move home. Her mother even came to town to help her pack and offer to move her home, and my ex refused to see her mom and wouldn't even allow her to come to the house. I have been working non-stop trying to avoid being at home, as she has become very verbally abusive, and at times when I have been at home she has harassed me to the point that I cannot sleep peacefully; barging into the guest room when I have told her I want to left alone, unlocking the door I have locked to allow herself in, and slamming doors or shouting through the door at all hours of the night are just some examples. The other issue is that she has been running our HVAC constantly. The power bill for the recent month was 4 times greater than any month prior, and since I ended things with her, she has not given me any money for the utilities. Yesterday was another very difficult day, as we both had the day off, and were at the house together. I asked her to leave me alone, and she would not. I left the house and texted her that a reminder that I need her to move out by the end of the month. Last night I locked myself in the guest room to sleep it all away. I awoke to find the attic fan on, windows open, and the air conditioning running as well. I turned off the air conditioning and sent her a text message telling her that she cannot have both on at the same time because it is a waste of energy and akin to burning money. I am now at work, and I cannot figure out what to do next. I do not know if I can contact the police to force her to move out. I don't know if I would want to do that because I fear that it may prevent her from finding another apartment if she has something like that on her record. As well, I don't know if her job would be negatively affected by a police report. I live in Dekalb county. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Edit: spell and grammar check. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2019 07:47 AM PDT I've been a part-time employee as a barista within a grocery store for 2 years, and I've typically worked there during summer break from mid-May to mid-August. In August 2018, I requested Educational LOA for the following year, with July 31, 2019 being the end date. The form was signed by the store manager at the time, scanned, and sent off to be signed by the regional manager. I no longer have my copy. I returned mid-May this year and worked PT for two weeks. The store had hired a new store manager and coffee shop lead since last year. I notified both before working in May that I could work for two weeks and continue working when I returned from studying abroad. I discussed with the coffee lead return dates and times for me, and she wrote it down in her record-keeping book. I do not have any pictures. I went abroad, and I came back last weekend. Tried logging on to my account to view my schedule and couldn't get in. I called the store, spoke with the coffee lead. She is leaving the store in one week, and informed me that the system automatically terminated me for not working two weeks after my last shift. My last shift was May 26th. I was forwarded to the store manager and he said the same thing. He also informed me that it would not have happened if I had submitted an educational LOA, and advised that I try to get rehired next year. While away, I also received a physical letter by mail signed from my store's LOA Administrator and CC'd to the store manager dated July 2nd. It stated that my current educational LOA is still set to end on July 31st, and that I must return to work no later than August 6th. I called the employment status number listed in the letter a few minutes ago. The woman I talked with informed me I was terminated May 26th - the last date I worked and not two weeks after. She forwarded me to the regional manager, to whom I left a voicemail and am waiting to hear back. I have no interest in ever returning to work there and do not want a termination to be reflected on my records, especially under these circumstances. Does anyone have any advice with how I should proceed going forward? [link] [comments] |
I think I’ve been scammed by a holiday agency. Posted: 29 Jul 2019 06:33 AM PDT Me and my friends around 6 weeks ago booked a holiday through a Thomas cook subcontract agency. They asked for £550 straight up per person after we chose the destination and what day we want to go (13th of August - 20th of August) it's £300 for the hotel and £250 for the flight we were told. I felt it was a little off that they wanted a cash transaction, but they did write receipts with signatures, so it did ease some doubt. We heard absolutely nothing back within those six weeks about the bookings other than "you'll receive your boarding details a week before you go", I pushed for the details about the hotel. I asked about and usually you hear back about the hotel booking within 1 to 2 weeks at the latest. We finally heard back off of him with booking details with him telling us the hotel we planned on having was fully booked, surprise surprise. He offered us 3 other hotels that were downgraded from the original one, roughly £100 less than what we payed for the original one. I was surprised because usually if an agency messes up your bookings they usually offer an upgrade as compensation. He told us that our flight had to be reallocated to another day so it would cost £321 instead of £250. Because the flight had to be reallocated, the original date was moved from 13/08-20/08 to 16/08-23/08. Now this effects some of us because we've booked holiday leave from work and have to take an extra 3 days unpaid leave. I priced up the holiday myself and the package he's offering is £494, where we gave him £550, we've not been told he's going reimburse us this money. He's moved the original flight departure from a local airport to one in England. I looked at flights from our local one to the destination we're going for the same date and the cheapest is £255, around the same price as the original. I also priced up the same package he's offered us and it would save us £120 to sort it ourselves. What action can I take against him as he's gone ahead and booked us now shortly after telling us all this? From Wales UK. [link] [comments] |
My mom stole more than 8500$ from me, what can I do? Posted: 29 Jul 2019 04:39 AM PDT So my mom stole more than 8500$ from me, she said she had a big amount of money coming so she deposited multiple cheque's in my account and cashed them out. The cheque's were empty so it left my RBC account at -4200$, my account was a bit above 4000$ before, they had to close the account. I don't know what to do and I need help. I'm 18yo and I live in Ontario Canada. I'm not sure what I can do and if it affects my credits score. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2019 12:05 PM PDT To elaborate, my friend is training me for a work from home career and I'll technically only be there Monday evening through Friday, so not even a full five days. He rents a room and I was going to sleep on the floor. He does NOT have a lease and pays a portion of the water and electric bill. I've been told by other friends of mine that it's my friends right to have friends over as long as it doesn't go over so many days, to where they start becoming more of a tenant. I appreciate any advice or insight. [link] [comments] |
Home owner collecting several down payments Posted: 29 Jul 2019 07:17 AM PDT Can a landlord collect down payments from multiple different parties at the same time and then not refund the parties that did not get the lease? Specific example: a 1 year lease is supposed to start August 1st. During the week of July 24th-31st, can a home owner collect a down payment from a second party after he has already collected a downpayment from a previous party, without giving back the downpayment to the first party? Know a landlord who collected 3 down payments from 3 different parties of students and ended up giving the lease to the party with the best credit. Then kept the other 2 parties down payment (which were not the application fees). Is this a legal tactic? Edit: it is solved. Thank you for everyone that responded. Couldn't find anything on google that wasn't an advertisement or advice on how to choose a realtor or some misdirection so figured you'd guys would help, and you did. Just a major mis-communication with the landlord and then with my friends and the story was messed up. The final result is that the application fees were kept, but the deposit is in the works of being refunded. [link] [comments] |
[MO, USA] Loft wrecked after roof replaced Posted: 29 Jul 2019 01:37 PM PDT My landlord emailed the building informing us that they were having the roof replaced about 2 weeks ago but did not give us any other instructions other than leaving some parking spaced open to allow for their equipment. I live on the top floor of the building. The day comes that they begin work and I wake up to shingles, dirt, dust, and chunks of wood all over our living room and belongings and there are holes in the ceiling that open up to the outside. I spoke to the head of the roofing crew that day and he informed me that no one told them that anyone lived on our floor and that the salesperson who worked with my landlord must have never actually looked at our roof or they would have known there was no sub-roof that would have caught all of the debris. The roofers have done their best to clean up my apartment and laid tarps over the areas that had not been effected yet and have since finished their work. We are currently waiting for a professional cleaning company to come in and clean everything. My landlord said that the roofers are covering this cost. This has been pushed out a few days because, according to my landlord, the cleaning crew is testing samples of the debris to make sure it is not toxic. In the meantime I had to move into hotel while they were working on the rest of the roof. This has been stretched out over nearly 10 days now. My landlord has been mostly unresponsive during this time and has not explicitly said she would reimburse me for cost of the hotel(s) (we have checked in and out of 3 now as the end date keeps moving). I have a few of questions: 1.) Does my landlord have a legal responsibility to reimburse me for the cost of the hotel(s) or apply a credit to our rent and possibly some of my furniture that may need to be replaced? We have a pretty standard lease agreement from what I can tell. 2.) I have renters insurance but I have not reached out to them yet as it sounds like my landlord might cover these costs but I have nothing in writing. Do I go ahead and file an insurance claim? 3.) Do I ask for prorated rent for the days that I was unable to live in the apartment? I am not sure it makes sense to pay for an apartment I have not been able to live in. 4.) Am I able to go after the roofing company for any of these expenses. I have no contract with the roofers so I am not sure I would be able to pursue them for any damages without filing some sort of lawsuit. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2019 09:39 AM PDT Basically as soon as my ex-husband found out that I had a new husband that was younger than him and had a new baby, he sent me very scary threatening messages and stalked me and things like that. So they gave me an order of protection that was temporary and set a court date. The day before court they called me and said they had to reschedule it because he was never served. They asked me to give an alternative address because the place they went, the people said he didn't live there. The thing is, even though he's 41 years old, that was his parents house and he has lived there literally his whole life. So I kind of think he's just dodging the server. But the court date is coming up next week and if he is still not served by then, what will happen? Is there like a set number of times they have to attempt to serve someone before pushing a permanent protection order through? Or can they even push a permanent one if he is never served papers to appear in court over it? [link] [comments] |
My ex moved out but refuses to stay out of my apartment Posted: 29 Jul 2019 05:36 AM PDT I live in Pennsauken, NJ and my control freak of an ex has finally attained her own apartment but is still listed as an occupant on my lease. I have asked her multiple times to sign a paper that she moved out, but she refuses to tell the apartment that she no longer lives in that location so that she still has access to it. This means even if change the locks, she can have the apartment open the doors for her. What can I do as she has already moved out? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2019 01:09 PM PDT My eldest aunt has always had "something wrong with her" for as long as anyone can remember, but due to the stigma of mental illness my grandparents stuck their heads in the sand and refused to address the issue. Since my mentally ill aunt's (MIA) manipulative and equally mentally ill husband passed a couple years ago, her mental state has taken a sharp decline. She has paranoid and bizarre ideation. After her husband died and she was evicted from their house (not clear whether she didn't have the mental capacity to manage her finances or didn't have the funds without husband's disability check coming in), MIA would bounce around different friends' houses. She always left or was kicked out after accusing people of poisoning her or trying to kill her. She accused a cousin of trying to kill her on Easter when he was at work all day. She lived with her adult daughter briefly, but was kicked out for threatening to hit her toddler grandson because she believed the two year old was climbing out of his crib, opening the door, walking across the house to come kick, hit and jump on her in the wee hours of the morning. After she was kicked out of her daughter's, my grandmother took her in. We tried to set her up living on her own, but she is unable to manage her finances, take care of herself and was sabotaging her house so she could move back in with my grandmother. She has been living with my 88 year old grandmother for almost a year now. Her mental state has continued to decline (likely due to some dementia on top of mental illness) and I am concerned about my grandmother's safety. She has been stealing from my grandmother, is aggressive when confronted or has fantastic stories about how the items went missing. She refuses to eat anything but prepackaged food because people are poisoning her. She steals my grandmother'sefications. Her moods are dramatically labile. My grandmother is afraid of her. MIA is verbally abusive, destroys grandmother's property when she's angry and I foresee her behavior escalating to physical retaliation soon. Her children are estranged and will not communicate with us. My grandmother, my dad and another one of my aunts talked about the situation yesterday. Due to my job, I had to make a mandatory report of elder abuse regarding the situation. We decided that my dad and other aunt (OA) will pursue joint guardianship of her as we believe she is incompetent to care for herself. Ideally, we'd like to get her into a facility with a dementia unit. However, we all agree that MIA will be vehemently resistant to the process because "there's nothing wrong" with her and I worry that she'll lash out at my grandmother. We live in southern Colorado. I have spoken to the sheriff's office and adult protective services. From what I've gathered from the 20 different offices I've spoken to today, we will have to have her proven gravely disabled to be able to take guardianship of her if she's unwilling to cooperate with the process. She doesn't have a formal diagnosis and is unwilling to tell anyone anything her doctors have told her. Does anyone have any wisdom on the process of gaining guardianship of a seriously mentally ill adult who doesn't want to cooperate? [link] [comments] |
Returning unexpected Bitcoin deposits? Posted: 29 Jul 2019 06:33 AM PDT I've not been using my [major provider-based] account for the past couple of years, but know it is still open. I transferred all my coins to paper storage when I stopped mining. After getting some unusual emails about failed logins that I thought were phishing, however, I logged in. For about the past eight months, random amounts have been deposited from different accounts. Only four have made multiple deposits (strangely, all four were the same amounts on all their transactions, but they're on random days, not monthly or weekly). The rest have made single deposits of amount ranging from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars. There is a significant amount of money in the wallet. None of it is mine. I'm uncertain what to do. I contacted the provider and they were not helpful, saying that they don't control deposits and that the funds had been sent to me. They can't tell me who sent it. With a little time and effort, I can manually reverse each of the payments and send the money back, but I know this provider has been sending info on transactions to the IRS. Will I incur any tax liability for this? Should I hold it until someone tries to claim the funds? Location: NYC, USA. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2019 12:59 PM PDT We run several trade shows and conferences for the past several years and as of a few years ago, we have found that we have had profiles created on a specific website that misrepresents our conferences in terms of size and cost. We have tried contacting them over the phone to have our profile taken down but they have refused to do so. We would simply ignore it however we have had attendees phone us after the event claiming they were misled and even attendees who show up to our events having registered through this website but not with us. From what we can tell they are an Indian company and are unsure of what we can do to actually stop them, we are based in Ontario, Canada. Any advice would help [link] [comments] |
Laptops stolen from apartment while building was completing plumbing work Posted: 29 Jul 2019 08:29 AM PDT Hello everyone, hoping to get some advice on something that just happened to me. Long story short, the management company for my building has been doing plumbing work all of the last week, including Friday. I gave them permission to enter to complete the work. I leave Friday around 11am to head to Boston for a weekend trip. I come back at 7pm on Sunday night and realize my two laptops are missing - one personal and one for work. I left them on top of my kitchen table. I check in with my neighbor and he said he saw my door was wide open in the afternoon - he couldn't lock down a time but he said maybe 2pm, 3pm or 4pm. I call my super, who was overseeing this whole thing, and he said that he got reports from other tenants that someone not part of the construction crew was roaming in the building but by the time he returned he didn't see this person. I called the police and filed a report. They believe it was an opportunistic robbery, no break-in. I do have renter's insurance that should cover my personal laptop. Unsure about my work laptop though. I would like to know what step I should take in order to get the Management company to compensate me for the loss property and their negligence. Thank you. TX Employer keeps tips for meal reimbursement, bonus's and other "things" Posted: 29 Jul 2019 01:21 PM PDT Interviewed with a food truck today over the phone and he said since he pays his employees a "livable" wage, he gathers the tips given and puts them in a pool that contributes to meals for the employees, bonus's and travel expenses ( gas, tolls on route to food truck locations). I declined the job, but is this even legal? [link] [comments] |
