I fucked up Sales and Selling

    I fucked up

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 07:26 AM PDT

So I was setting up a client today. I pulled out my phone to log onto my email. I opened my browser on the phone and I didn't realize I left pornhub open from last night. I'm really hoping my client did not see that. I closed it so fast and I didn't feel any awkwardness from my client. It was easily the most embarrassing thing I have ever done.

I’m Awkward AF and I Still Make Money

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 02:06 PM PDT

If you're not crushing it or feeling down about yourself for not being the most extroverted sales person etc, stop. Take a breath. You don't have to be perfect. You don't even have to be particularly polished.

I drop drinks, flub names, go blank on cold calls. You name it, I've fucked it up.

The only thing that matters in this business is organization and a passion for your product and customers. That's it.

The most talented sales people blow deals all the time. The most clumsy and awkward dudes that are genuine can crush it because they grind away on the phones while talent fucks off on the golf course.

    Go tell the world.

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 07:41 AM PDT

Big ups to the outside sales guys and girls in r/sales (and all the guys and girls in r/sales for that matter)

How do you guys deal with the heat and how do you stay hydrated/as cool as you can possibly be out there?

Going into dental sales.. Appropriate Dress code?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 11:25 AM PDT

I am beginning my position next month and was wondering what to wear?

I know it's not as important as being knowledgable on the product, creating value .. etc. However I would not like to be so out of place with my wardrobe.

What staples should I get, and how much of them? I would like a solid wardrobe to start so I think 5 dress shirts one suit jacket? How many pairs of pants? If so where do you recommend I check out? I prefer clothing that will last longer than clothing that is cheaply made.. but the cheaper the better I suppose.

Currently looking at : Brooks brothers non-iron shirt, not sure for pants and suit.

I apologize if this is the wrong sub to ask, but I feel it is inappropriate to ask what the salesman should wear to a dentist forum.

What do you tell yourself when you're frustrated?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 07:28 AM PDT

I'm sure if you've been in the sales game any length of time, you've experienced the low, dry periods, that are frustrating. Giving into the frustration snowballs the effect and you end up in a bad mood, your prospects and stakeholders can hear it and the whole thing just turns into this vicious cycle.

What mantras, self talk, methods or whatever do you employ to break the cycle, stay in a good head space, and prospect the hell out of the phones?

    Looking to start in sales

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 07:24 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I am looking to make the move into the sales. Now my company has an open position and I have been thinking about going for it, but have been a little hesitant. I am more or less wondering if this could be the best way for me to possibly break in even though it's not somewhere I want to stay long term?

What do you guys recommend doing to get a start in sales with no sales experience?

Also I'm 32 now, you think it's a little late to switch careers?

    Thanks

What industry can I build my own portfolio in?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 06:30 AM PDT

Basically, as I stand right now I am working for a manufacturer, essentially I am building their customer base, not my own. Are there industrys where I can build my own customer base?

Reason being is I am doing very well in sales and haven't seen my commission increase. This company also has a track record of firing salesmen after they have built up their territory.

For those in outside sales with a marketing budget...

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 12:11 PM PDT

What do you take into your accounts to make sure they remember you and continue to refer business to you?

I work in healthcare so I do the typical Starbucks runs, morning bagels, etc but I'm looking to do something more meaningful that will last longer.

What have you guys done that has worked?

    (My budget is $300/month btw)

What do you think is the most important thing to kill it in sales?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 10:43 AM PDT

For me it's all about volume volume volume. I think it's all well and good having techniques to use on an individual sale, but when I have a ton of pipeline out there, I'm less desperate, more chilled out, I take my time and sell more. When ever Im not doing well, it's normally because I'm clinging onto one sale to get me through the day.

Can you get into SaaS sales without any CRM experience?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 09:28 AM PDT

I was looking into the future of SaaS as a industry and it seems very appealing. Can I get into sales without CRM experience but extended sales experience?

What is the best sales technology you have used?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 09:13 AM PDT

SFDC is table stakes, but I've been blown away with outreach.io. I can cover so much group prospecting - its fucking incredible.

I'm thinking back to my BDR days with manual lead entry, manual outreach, all of this crap that used to drive me insane.

In 48 hours I built this campaign and pretty effortlessly sourced 3 meetings. Incredible.

Anything transformative technologies you would all recommend?

making the jump from transactional SaaS to enterprise SaaS, recommendations for learning?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2019 08:47 AM PDT

As mentioned above, I am starting a new Account Executive role at the enterprise level.

The company is early stage (pre series-A), and there are not strong processes laid out for the reps- we are all working together to figure it out.

What are your best book/blog/podcast recommendations for getting up to speed on enterprise selling?

Sales Automation + Marketing Automation + CRM Software?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 08:49 PM PDT

    Hi All,

I hope you guys are doing well! Quick question! I've looked up alternatives to Hubspot on G2 Crowd, but I haven't found anything comparable that's affordable.

    The features I want are:
    1. Sales Automation (Cold Emailing) - Features similar to Reply.io or Woodpecker.co
    2. Marketing Automation (Newsletters) - Features similar to ActiveCampaign, MailChimp, Infusionsoft, etc.
    3. CRM (managing a sales pipeline) - Features similar to Pipedrive or Copper

Hubspot is the only software I've seen that handles ALL three seamlessly in one portal. But it's pretty expensive when it comes to storing more than 1000 contacts.

Anyone aware of any good alternatives?

How to build up motivation in telesales - Help!

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 08:31 PM PDT

I have been working as an appointment setter for a commercial cleaning company for 5 months.

Our target is 1 appointment a day. Sometimes I get no appointments for 2 weeks, sometimes I get 2 or 3 appointments a day for a straight week.

I am on a good base pay + an ok commission

I don't feel stressed out by our targets or by management. I'm just lacking motivation!

Everyday feels like a struggle working up that motivation to pick up the phone and dial the numbers. I try play reward games with myself like make 20 calls play a game on my phone for 10 minutes but the last month I just don't want to be here.

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep pushing on and making calls?
