How to avoid the damages caused by a client cancelling his order before delivery? Especially if the payment method is cash-on-delivery?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 03:31 PM PDT

I have a printing business and I also print for personalized items like tarpaulins, tumblers, t-shirts, etc. We deliver for our clients. I have not yet experienced someone cancelling his order but I thought that it can happen. It would surely cause a damage because the items we deliver are personalized and would be impossible to sell again.

Thank you for helping me in this matter. Hehehehe

    How effective are giveaways?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 02:21 AM PDT

I'm starting up an online electronic component store. I plan on buying some nano boards next week and was thinking about doing a giveaway. Would that be effective for bringing in more sales? I don't have a large social media following, less than 100 on Instagram and around 160 on Facebook.

    Single Point of Failure

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 12:46 AM PDT

[Question] I've got a small team of VAs and find that a lot of time goes into doing weekly video meetings with clients, ingesting tasks, delegating tasks, assessing quality, providing feedback, delivering tasks back to clients, doing some tasks myself and working on business development. I find myself in this system a single point of failure meaning if something happens and I'm unable to delegate tasks/deliver them back on time this system fails which might lead to a client being unhappy, naturally. Right now I'm the face of my company and my team doesn't interact with the clients directly. How do you guys make it work with your team and your time?

How to reject sharing business contact?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 04:31 AM PDT

I was approached by an acquaintance to share my retailer contact information (I wholesale to some retailers), because he also wants to place his products (non-competing for now) at the same retailer.

This contact info is something I worked very hard to obtain, and i have worked hard to keep a good relationship with my retailers. I'm not comfortable with sharing their contact info with an acquaintance.

In addition, I have no wish of being associated with him in a business sense. (In case he opens his pitch with the company saying something like "I was introduced by XXX (me)", and gives a false impression of our relationship somehow.)

What is the correct way to reject him politely, but firmly? I ignored his messages the first 2 times hoping he'd get the hint, and he has sent me a 3rd message.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    LLC: Lawyer VS LegalZoom?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 03:50 AM PDT

My lawyer charges about $800 to do an LLC.

Are there any drawbacks to doing it myself with a service such as legal zoom or similar service?

How helpful is an Ecommerce website VS starting it on your own and promoting it by yourself?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 03:49 AM PDT

My girlfriend and I had been thinking about starting an online business. We are trying to weigh the positive and negatives of starting our small product sales business online with or without an Ecommerce site. Do they really help with advertising and things like that?

is my LLC a waste of money now?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 02:04 AM PDT

Soooo... I started an LLC a few months ago because I was going to get into ecommerce because I thought the FBA/ebay world was cool. I decided ecommerce isn't for me and pivoted to marketing consulting / graphic design, which I enjoy more as a creative person. I'm basically going to creating ads/graphics for small businesses. LLC made sense to me for ecommerce because if one of my products hurt somebody or something, but I'm thinking an LLC doesn't make sense anymore and is more trouble than its worth at this point in my business.

I don't see much benefit to being an LLC as a graphic designer. Due to the nature of the work, I can't imagine someone being able to win a huge judgement against me considering I'm just going to be making art for people.

I'm just starting my business and haven't made any money yet, so the idea of having to pay an accountant to file taxes for me quarterly and keep up with all of associated fees of an LLC are a bit stressful for me and seem unnecessary for an artist.

    1. Am I missing something or should I look at dissolving until I have a real reason to worry about liability or potential benefits of an LLC? Sucks I'll lose the money I put into forming, but I don't want to put good money after bad having to pay CPA and fees associated with LLC if I'm just going to be a graphic designer who gives my clients ideas how best to use the work I make for them.

    1. Right now, I can't think of very many benefits of having an LLC being a single member and not bringing in much revenue, in a low-liabiity line of work. I'm stressing more about keeping up with the admin side of things than I am with growing my business at this point. Silly, but I have noticed I am making bad decisions because I'm trying to make money faster so that I can keep up with expenses like hiring an accountant soon. The LLC cons just seem to outweigh the pros at this point in my biz.

    1. Also, as a single-member LLC I am confused why I have to pay quarterly taxes? I thought since I elected to do pass through that I would only have to file once per year, as if I was a sole prop. I am in Washington State. Having to pay taxes quarterly and then file personally seems off. Ill check with an accountant, but does that seem wrong to have to file for both the LLC quarterly and me once annually?

I know other creative professionals have LLCs (famous authors, etc.), but their business dealings are typically more than just their book or art. What do you all think?

    Incorporating questions

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 10:14 PM PDT

My taxes are now becoming a bigger issue, I work for an employer and receive a w2 there. I am also doing HVAC work on the side, the past years I have been doing a schedule c-ez. This year I will be over the limits of a c-ez and will need a schedule C. I am also interested in incorporating as well. I have been reading a lot about this and everything seems great but I'm not sure about the little nuances. Will my tax prep fees skyrocket? What are some things that you need to do for the incorporation that I won't don't find from reading on the internet?

    Bringing on another sales rep?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 12:06 AM PDT

I'm reaching out to see anyone's experience with bringing on new sales people when you're still fresh with launching a product/service. I've been selling my monthly services to companies as a benefit for them and their employees. I'm still capable of doing a lot more on my own, but I'm wondering what I could achieve with another sales rep helping bring new accounts on, but I'm still worried about stretching too thin with time and training if it's just me doing it all (yes I know what I signed up for).

    Any thoughts?

P.s I do device protection plans and repairs for individuals, families, and businesses.

    Payment processor for small transactions

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 08:06 PM PDT

I wanted to try an idea running a small website that offered a service and offered some additional functionality for small fees (in the ~$1-2 range). A lot of payment processors like Stripe, Square have a 2.9%+30cent fee. Seems like the 30 cent base rate is a large percentage of these smaller ~$1-2 payments. Are there alternatives for accepting payments online that are better suited for smaller transactions? Ideally they would support recurring monthly payments as well.

How do you deal with customers that want you to carry everything?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 01:27 PM PDT

We have a lighting rental business, our main focus is on rentals, but we do have some expendable items that we do sales for. Our usual course of business is people rent a truck with equipment and some sales items pre-loaded on. The issue I'm having is when people want things outside of this basic expendables package.

Just a basic example of this is someone was doing a specialty rig and wanted a certain type of foam to protect it. We had never gotten this request before and have never gotten it since, but because the rental was a decent amount of money we entertained the request. Since the item itself is so cheap, it becomes difficult to negotiate a reasonable price once you factor in all of our time/energy.

Obviously this is an issue, but not sure how to fix it or if I should fix it. I can just tell them no, we don't carry that, or I can enact a surcharge of X amount for items we do not carry. I don't feel like either would make anyone very happy, but something has to be done. The tough part is some of the other rental houses have a much larger sales department and are able to carry big inventory, so it becomes an issue of being able to compete as well.

Would be great to hear if anyone else has found themselves in this situation and how you handled it.

    Mobile Computer Repair

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 11:02 PM PDT

I'm going to be moving to Australia for a couple of years and would like to take my small time "on the go" computer repair business along with me. It's really more of a side hustle as I had worked in retail with a heavy focus on technology for the last four years, this business was basically a means to make some extra cash. I'm not looking to have a brick and mortar as of right now, either in the USA (country of origin) or in Australia, and really it's just a means for me to get extra income while doing something that I enjoy and am good at. I will be on a work-holiday visa and I wonder if this will prevent me from doing anything extensive with my (admittedly minuscule) business. Anything that I should know about continuing with my business overseas?

What interview questions would you ask a young applicant for a trade apprenticeship?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 08:29 PM PDT

We are putting on two new apprentices (Chefs) in the next few weeks and I was wondering what questions you would ask them and why?

Applicants are 16 to 21 years old and being a chef is a serious career in my country (not USA). Restaurant does 2200 covers a week give or take.

Need help finding a manufacturer for skincare products (small amounts)

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 02:10 PM PDT

I have a small skincare brand that I would like to grow. In order to do that, I need to find a proper manufacturer (right now I am making, packaging and shipping the oils myself) to produce the product for me. It's just one type of product (oil) and I have the recipe. I have contacted a bunch of companies that I found while doing some research on Google but none of them seemed interested. They claimed no capacity.

I want to find a company that works with organic ingredients as that's an important part of the brand.

Any advice on how to proceed or who I could get in touch with for help? I'm based in Europe and would prefer European suppliers. I'd consider US as well!

    Thank you!

What did you resources, networks, assets, 'brand/product signature' and capabilities did you have gained over new competitors?

What of the above do you have now that your brand new competitors do not have?

Does hiring a specialist firms when done well, multiple times better than on your own?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 03:46 PM PDT

For example if I was to get something manufactured to outsource it to a oversees manufacture that already has decades of experience making and experience with end customer needs. It would make sense to outsource. Other option would be if I felt that I could do it inhouse and really do huge quantity.

But for things I am unsure of like if I hired a sales agency to try to get them to close out deals with retailers, or wholesalers. Would it be best to spend money there, or to spend it on a marketing agency? Same question if I should get a marketing firm to help push beyond what I can?

When done correctly are these external firms and consultancy able to do multiples of what you can?

Any ideas on how to get funds to open a business?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 02:30 PM PDT

I have an amazing idea for a small business, I've found the location, and as a reseller I have plenty of inventory to get started. Money is holding me back, I've been applying for loans here lately, and getting nowhere. Bad credit does that to a person. I'm not asking anyone for money. I'm just asking for tips on how to acquire the money quickly, before the warehouse is gone.

Method/Phone App to let customers leave a business review.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 11:50 AM PDT

Just curious, we are a word of mouth business but we want to encourage our social media/search engine reviews. We have 1/10th the reviews and just want a good way that can let customers leave reviews. I've seen stores have mounted tablets for the sheer instance of leaving a review.

Yes, we encourage reviews to be left and we ask afterwards, just trying to make it easier for the customer. Thank in advance.
