    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday Jun 07, 2019

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 01:07 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against fundamentals here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports. Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well.

See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki:

    Market Cap - Shares Outstanding - Volume - Dividend - EPS - P/E Ratio - EPS Q/Q - PEG - Sales Q/Q - Return on Assets (ROA) - Return on Equity (ROE) - BETA - SMA - quarterly earnings

If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned.

Boeing is in talks to settle with families suing them over 737 Max crash deaths and avoid a potentially excruciating trial

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 05:11 AM PDT

    https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-exploring-settling-737-max-crash-families-avoid-hard-trial-2019-6

Boeing is talking to families of the victims from the Lion Air 737 Max crash about reaching a settlement, rather than going through the court system.

Settling would allow Boeing to avoid long, highly publicized trials which could prove damaging for Boeing as its conduct around the crash is scrutinized and it seeks to return the planes to service.

A lawyer representing multiple families told Business Insider it is in Boeing's "best interest" to settle, as it would stop lawyers going through evidence to see if there were any issues with how the company designed and made the plane.

But he warned that Boeing could be using a wider strategy to drive down the settlement price.

    Sell or ride the increase?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 01:20 PM PDT

I'm in ARWR right now and I'm up basically 100% from when I first bought it, it's been steadily increasing for the past few weeks and I'm unsure if I should take my win now or rie it and see if it tops out. Id love to get as much as possible and if I sell now I know with my luck it would rise $20+. Bad way to think, I know, but it's always been my delima and want to know what you guys would do! News on it always keeps getting better, I don't see a top coming soon. Then again I am fairly new to the game.

Has anyone used Sentieo? I can't afford Bloomberg Terminal but I'm interested in having something similar.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 12:57 PM PDT

I've been considering getting into options trading. I just ordered "Options as a Strategic Investment" and plan to read it thoroughly before getting into it. I'd like some kind of edge though and a terminal seems like the best option. Bloomberg is obviously out of the question for my portfolio size but if I can get a decent deal on Sentieo I might give it a whirl.

Curious if anyone has experience with terminals in general that could weigh in.

    TEUM Fraud Allegations

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 12:55 PM PDT

So, I've seen some chatter about Parateum off and on here, so it's worth noting that the reason for this stock shitting the bed this week is finally clear:

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/short-seller-aurelius-value-calls-150844883.html

Yeah, I know folks take short-seller outcries with a grain of salt (people are still sinking money into JMIA), but that's the news.

And to think, Hal Turner just rang the opening bell last week. Oh, the humanity....

My initial 3 months of trading......

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 12:53 PM PDT

New to trading, trading only stock, I haven't been super active - used about about 35 trades and have held 15 positions at my highest, currently holding 8 after weeding out the losers and picking some new ones that my minimal research indicated were good picks.

After being down a bit, I am presently about 9.5% up.

should I be happy about that?

Is it too late to invest into AMD?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 12:51 PM PDT

I have this app that simulates investing in the stock market. I started it last week and was curious about investing into AMD. I didn't pull the trigger and now I am regretting it. I would have invested my money I would have made 550 something dollars if I sold today. I'm thinking of keeping it until 2020 though. The stock that is. It's only $3500 that I am working with, but I want to know if the stock has potential to climb even further than where it is or if it will probably fall and I should buy it then. Can't imagine its value going above Intel right?

Listening to Howard, mentioned his contract is up in 2020, SiriusXM going to plummet?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 08:24 AM PDT

I'm guessing they'll keep his channels and put all his content on repeat forever. He's talked about retiring his last two contracts. I've listened to him for years and he seems a lot more serious about it lately than before.

If it were to plummet, it'll probably start when he announces it. Shorts will jump in.

I'd imagine Howard would want to keep the price high, since as far as I know, he has tens if not hundreds of millions worth of stock still. Maybe he'd sell before announcing?

What else does SiriusXM really have? Everyone I've ever met who subscribes does it for Howard. I listen to maybe 1-3 other channels, sometimes. He carries that company IMO.

Sure you get subscriptions when you purchase a new car through GM or Ford that lasts a few months, but outside of Howard, I don't know what else I'd personally keep subscribing for.

I'm no expert by any means, so I do not speak for anyone. Just my general experience with satellite radio.

Anyone know what swing trading service this is?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 10:55 AM PDT

NOT PROMOTING. just looking to find out what service this is. below i have an old alert (obviously outdated) that was issued to give an idea of what the formatting looks like. I will delete this post as soon as its answered to avoid breaking rules.

"Based on our educational methodology, a signal has been generated to buy stock FB at $193.52 or lower with a limit order (Swing Break Out). We teach that you should always place a stop order ($188.86) to limit your risk on every trade. This is a stop-CLOSE order on the hourly chart. This order is only valid today. Please adjust accordingly."

    any help is much appreciated!
